Communications Manager (San Francisco, CA)Edit

The Communications Manager will serve as the go-to person at Wikia for all communications. He/she will interface with Content, Community, Design, and Sales teams to lead projects and ensure brand consistency and efficiency of all external messaging for their various audiences. All Wikia public relations will be handled by the communications manager, including regular company announcements, identification of media opportunities, vertical or category outreach, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities Edit

Wikia PR & Branding (30%)

  • Write, obtain approval, and publish all media announcements for Wikia and partners. Look for unique angles to pitch press and conduct targeted outreach campaigns for each.
  • Monitor potential press opportunities and review incoming queries; respond to relevant opportunities.
  • Update the Wikia Editorial Style Guide with new guidelines and processes; encourage and enforce proper use of guidelines internally.
  • Sole person responsible for the About section of Wikia.com. Work with Design and Engineering on implementation of Press Room.

Content PR & Marketing (30%)

  • Attend weekly content meetings to give initiative updates and gather ideas for future ones. Assess needs of team and provide as needed.
  • Provide guidance and strategic recommendations to Content staff on integrated marketing communications such as growing and leveraging social media channels.
  • Identify and evaluate conference opportunities; follow through on submissions and panel details.
  • Cultivate presence of Wikia wikis in the consumer media; track all mentions.

Wikia Community (20%)

  • Act as editorial director of the Staff Blog. Follow up on design changes to Community Central and blog promotional tactics.
  • Lead monthly or quarterly Wikia Community newsletter.
  • Editorial review of all site copy and canned email communication.

Sales Support (20%)

  • Review sales messaging and assist with collateral; share PR mentions and wiki-related trends with team.
  • Lead all PR activities: approve and publish joint press releases with advertising technology vendors, brands and agencies; submit staff and follow up on industry conference speaking engagements, ghostwrite guest articles for marketing trade publications.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue (vs. barter) when working with strategic partners or cultivating marketing relationships.

Requirements Edit

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in an agency environment
  • B.A. Communications, English Lit, or related major in the humanities
  • Extremely strong professional writing skills (e.g., email, website copy, press releases)
  • PowerPoint or Keynote expertise & ability to create basic layouts for marcom collateral
  • Resourceful and self-motivated, quickly learns new technology tools
