Wikia is looking for a savvy leader for its Entertainment content category, the fastest growing segment of Wikia today.
The Category Manager will define the growth strategy for the next few years and execute on global audience and content growth while driving new quality and engagement standards for multimedia entertainment content . He/she will be responsible for exploring new content and format areas, new partners and partnerships, or reinvention, spin-offs, or updating of existing production efforts against overall audience and revenue goals.
This position is full-time, based out of our San Francisco office.
Responsibilities
- Develop a strategy for growing the Entertainment audience, through focused content development, content programming and merchandising, marketing, and partnerships.
- Identify new content areas within Entertainment that have the potential for growth and work with the various parts of the organization to build a plan.
- Identify, develop, and support execution of acquisition marketing campaigns (both online and off).
- Be the voice of Wikia’s Entertainment channel both internally and within the larger media industry.
- Work closely with Product teams to conceptualize, test, implement features to deepen user engagement, and attract new entertainment users (readers and contributors).
- Maintain professional relationships with a variety of potential content partners (independent producers, international broadcasters, distributors, etc.).
- Interface with sales to create innovative campaigns and achieve high quality executions.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Entrepreneurial attitude required: you're not afraid to dig in and get your hands dirty, be it through learning wiki code or attending fan conventions.
- Minimum Bachelors Degree in Communications, Journalism or Business; MBA a plus.
- 10 years of online editorial experience in the Entertainment market.
- Experience with online communities very important.
- Experience planning growth strategies and managing prioritization of large numbers of support people.
- Experience working cross-functionally across sales, marketing, and product development.
- Strong editorial sensibilities. Ability to ensure content accuracy and credibility. News experience a plus.
- Proven ability to translate brand/business strategy to engaging content experiences.
