The Marketing Research Sr. Manager / Director will work closely with sales, Wikia’s internal content and community partners, and outside agencies to develop consumer insights. The role will leverage syndicated market research tools to provide an in-depth understanding of Wikia’s unique audience for the purpose of shaping our business strategy – across marketing, content, product and sales.
This position is full-time, based out of our San Francisco office.
Responsibilities
- Lead internal and external initiatives to develop and strengthen the value of consumer insights in Wikia’s business.
- Work with the content team to define key audiences, their behavior and motivations, as well as their social style.
- Lead interpretation and presentation of data; identify trends, communicate implications, and provide recommendations to internal and external clients.
- Be responsible for generating cross-tab data and either working with suppliers to translate objectives into surveys or independently writing surveys.
- Think creatively to solve problems, working to constantly uncover new insights, and develop recommendations to drive the business.
- Responsible for identifying new vendors to work with who can offer advanced research methodologies and insights in the media and entertainment category.
- Proactively generate vertical audience insights and industry trends that aid in product development, feature adoption, and revenue generation.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 3-5 years in online media experience required.
- 5 years of experience in consumer research, having worked with marketing teams and outside brands; ideally experience with both clients and market research agencies.
- Proficiency in industry-relevant audience measurement tools including Google Analytics, ComScore, and Quantcast.
- Project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and can understand the nuances of his/her audience.
- Client-service focused, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Extensive knowledge of syndicated market research.
- Familiar with gathering and developing consumer insights in a content, media, and social landscape.
- Able to generate cross-tab data reports, interpret complex data, and synthesize findings to actionable findings.
- Demonstrated ability to analytically problem-solve and think critically.
- A quick learner, with proven ability to assimilate to change.
- Understand and be responsive to the needs of various departments.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to generate credibility, trust, and respect throughout the company and be credible with clients.
- A hands-on participant with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Enjoys working hard and thrives under demanding circumstances.
- Knows how and when to appropriately escalate matters needing management attention.
- Demonstrates passion in his/her work and for the online medium.
