Near to 1 BILLION page views monthly is driven by a few datacenters, plenty of cutting-edge caches and web servers with a group of database clusters.
The Team
The Operations team is responsible for rapidly scaling a sophisticated production systems infrastructure. We are strategically building, scaling, and evolving management systems and frameworks for a high availability, high growth infrastructure.
The Opportunity
This Systems Administrator will be joining at a key point in Wikia's growth:
- Participate in the proof of concept, design, building, and operating of large scale systems.
- Provide large-scale data center hardware/operating system expertise and support a high availability multi-site, multi-national, production infrastructure.
- Identify, resolve, and prevent existing and future system bottleneck issues with modern configuration management frameworks.
- Optimize and continuously improve Wikia’s infrastructure to support the growth of our platform.
- Participate in an on-call rotation that will also provide additional collaboration with Development for coordinated code releases.
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum of 3 years experience building and managing a lights out data center infrastructure consisting of hundreds of servers/nodes.
- Experience in tools creation and application maintenance with strong scripting in one or more of the following languages: Perl, Bash, Python, or Ruby.
- Must possess a strong mindset for automation. Hands-on experience with frameworks like CFengine, Puppet, or Chef is a very big plus.
- Deep rooted knowledge and experience administering and configuring Linux systems in a consumer facing web application environment.
- Expert command of TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, SMTP, DHCP, SNMP and other core systems administration protocols.
- Experience setting up and managing various monitoring systems such as Nagios, Zenoss, Splunk, or similar a plus.
- Strong background in troubleshooting services with multiple dynamic components including web servers, SQL databases, application servers, and LAMP environments.
- Experience with networking technologies and BGP, OSPF routing protocols a plus.
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- English language skills allowing verbal and written communication.
