Public Relations Manager (San Francisco, CA)

The Public Relations Manager will will be responsible for raising the level of conversation around Wikia and its growing communities and developing close relationships with top tier press, bloggers and analysts in the US and Europe. The Manager will work with internal stakeholders on developing brand messaging for both B2B and B2C audiences and share that message via strategic, compelling media relations campaigns. This position will receive support from a Marketing Communications Specialist and will report to the Director of Communications.

- Develop and execute strategic public relations plans to promote and position Wikia to an array of consumer, trade, and social media.
- Draft messaging to tell bigger stories around innovation and industry trends: work with data team to publish white papers on audience insights from the Wikia network, identify stories of consumer interest and distribute to the Wikia Community and external readers.
- Play a pivotal role in product and partnership launches, trend and innovation-driven thought leadership, guerrilla PR and social media campaigns, and analyst relations.
- Oversee the creation and production of writing projects including press releases, advisories, press statements, byline articles, and conference submissions for all departments.
- Design and execute unique pitch angles and conduct targeted media outreach campaigns.
- Monitor potential press opportunities and respond to inquiries.
- Package and deliver PR mentions and wiki-related trends to Sales to keep sales decks fresh and relevant. On a quarterly basis, report on the ROI of all PR and communications campaigns to management team.
- Manage all brand activities, including the creation of a new Wikia.com to include a robust Press Room, including sub-sections for a release archive, clippings, media assets, and Community Buzz.
- Update Wikia Editorial Style Guide; encourage and enforce proper use of guidelines to all departments. Ensure that brand copy & statistics are accurate in all external facing collateral.
- Design and implement communication systems and processes to increase efficiency and improve employee-management relations.
Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, media or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional public relations experience required, preferably within a PR agency setting.
- Proven track record of planning and executing successful media relations programs; solid relationships with top tier business, technology, and marketing press.
- Familiarity with media database management systems. Proficient in using online tools for tracking media and competitive intelligence.
- Ridiculously strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading and managing the work of others.
- Self-starter with ability to effectively prioritize projects, assignments and job responsibilities taking into consideration management direction.
