Wikia is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer focused on video application development to help bring video into the land of user generated content. You will be a part of the team designing, developing, and deploying Wikia’s industry-leading wiki platform in addition to developing new technologies for mobile, user-generated content, advertising technology, etc. Working closely with our technical team in Poznan, Poland, you will also collaborate heavily with our Design and Product teams to create functional, beautiful interfaces
This position is full-time, based out of our San Francisco office.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to build API-driven web applications – focused on video application development.
- Develop front-end/application web pages using modern interpreted server-side languages such as PHP and Python, as well as standard HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
- Optimize performance of the API, web server tier, and front-end applications.
Desired Skills & Experience
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent).
- 4+ years of experience developing large scale software applications.
- PHP experience strongly preferred.
- Object-oriented programming, MVC, and RESTful web services experience a plus.
- Proven track record solving difficult problems with cross-functional and international teams.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining a wiki. (If you have one, please include a link to your user page on Wikia, Wikipedia, or another wiki site.)
- Excellent communication skills. We are a growing international team – your ability to understand and be understood will be critical to your success and satisfaction.
- Desire and excitement to work with international teams a must, as well as willingness to travel occasionally to Europe.
