Online Sales Veteran Richard Yu Hired to Lead the European Effort

San Francisco, CA., August 11, 2010 – With the rapid growth of Wikia’s http://www.wikia.com audience across Europe, the company announced today the opening of a European sales office based in London. The new office will focus on expanding sponsorships from major European advertising agencies and brands. Leading the office is Richard Yu, Wikia’s new European Sales Director.

In the first half of 2010, Wikia’s audience experienced triple digit growth reaching 31.9 million visitors worldwide; according to marketing research firm Quantcast. A third of Wikia’s worldwide audience comes from Europe, underscoring the need for the company’s first international sales office to respond to increased advertiser demand.

“Our wiki communities are becoming more established, attracting larger audiences, making the sites increasingly attractive for brand marketers to target key audiences by content topics and demographic and psychographic profiles,” said Gil Penchina, CEO of Wikia. “In the US, Wikia has content sponsorships with top brands including Blizzard Activision, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, ABC Television and others. We are looking to Richard to steer our success into the European advertising market.”

Richard Yu comes to Wikia most recently from IGA Worldwide and has more than 17 years of senior sales experience. While at IGA, Yu was successful in securing numerous sponsorship deals with Coca-Cola, Diesel, Nokia, Swatch, Unilever and Sony Pictures. In his new role as head of European sales for Wikia, Yu will focus on European advertising sales development and branded content sponsorships.
