Mozilla Firefox is a free, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and hundreds of volunteers. With over 25 million downloads in the 99 days after its release, Firefox became one of the most used free and open source applications, especially among home users. On October 19, 2005, Firefox had its 100 millionth download, just 344 days after the release of version 1.0 (read more at Wikipedia).
Wikia supported Firefox in 2005/6 with a "download Firefox" button in the footer of every wiki. Each download earned $1 for Wikia, which we though might supplement the revenue from the advertising and help to support the site, allowing us to continue to offer free MediaWiki hosting to over 5500 wikis, but in reality, very few valid downloads were made, so this was never a significant source of finance for the site, so the button was not replaced after it was dropped in a MediaWiki upgrade.
