Forum:Automatically created OpenSearch (or whatever) tool omits icon
Wikia - creating communities
I noticed that Wikia is now automatically generating and publishing search boxes compatible with Firefox. I don't know if OpenSearch or Sherlock or whatever were used. But when I added the one for c:ChristianMusic: to Firefox, the icon at c:ChristianMusic:Image:Favicon.ico was not used. Instead, Firefox shows the default page icon. - I have trouble with that thing too, i think. When I right click in the search text area of any Wikia wiki, i have the option to add a button in my Google Toolbar. But, since Wikia changed something with the search, it's now always the big yellow W that is used as an icon. So, i've done some XML file specifying the proper icon and i've put them on my hosting. Then, i've put a link to it at the bottom of the main page of the Wikia where i'm admin (fr.guildwars and fr.3d). — TulipVorlax 01:32, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
So how does that apply to me? I don't understand the formats well enough to use them. Will (Talk - contribs) 20:23, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, i had to learn how to edit thoses XML files. The Google toolbar can produce the file. Then, you just have to replace the Base64 encoded icon with another Base64 enconded icon. But it's not your fault that you dont understand what i say, it's in fact perfectly normal. People around me often say i'm talking chineese (here in Quebec when we dont understand we say that it is chineese).
- My post was principally inteded to join your cause and « fight along your side ». Lol. I mean, you said you have a problem, i said i have the same problem (altough i found a workaround). Then Wikia staff might that there is a problem, if other pleole comme along saying they too have the same problem. And then Wikia finally get it fixed. Life is wonderfull, isn't it ?
- P.s.: It's not really fixed yet. — TulipVorlax 10:52, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I don't believe the ones created by the Google Bar are compatible with Firefox. I could be wrong. Things might have changed since I last checked. However, the preferred Firefox format isn't Google's. Besides, I wasn't talking about anything created by GoogleBar. This machine doesn't have either GoogleBar. - Ok, my mistake. Then it's Firefox for you. But still, i had the same «bug» with the Google Toolbar. So, we are talking about a wrong configuration of thoses things in Wikia; same bug, two consequences (at least). Now, we wait until a staff comes by or you can go poke one on his talk page. ;-) — TulipVorlax 03:01, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, I tried getting a hold of Angela on her talk page as to whether or not our wikis could host the new forum system or not, but she never responded. Will (Talk - contribs) 03:14, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
