Forum:Commons logo - Wikia use of Image:Commons-logo.svg
Wikia - creating communities
Are Wikia sites permitted to use the Commons logo commons:Image:Commons-logo.svg or a reduced version of it?
It is part of the Wikipedia:Template:Commonscat and related templates, used for inviting the reader to view Commons. But "Use of the Wikimedia logo is subject to the Wikimedia visual identity guidelines and requires permission."
Assuming that somebody on Wikia has sought and obtained such permission for use in such Commons-oriented ways, I would like to see what sort of acknowledgment is required for uploading the logo (or reduction) to an individual Wikia.
I have found
, which I would happily have in those templates. Its documentation does not answer my requests.

- We don't have any special permission to use this, so unless it counts as fair use, I would recommend using one of the Wikimedia community logos instead. I've uploaded a small one at Image:Wikimedia Community Logo.png. Angela

- Would use of the Commons logo to attribute it to commons, Wikipedia logo to attribute it to Wikipedia, Meta logo to attribute it to Meta, etc... Not be proper use of these logos? The community logos were made for communities to be able to refer to themselves because they could not create derivatives of the copyrighted logos. Not meant to refer to the WikiMedia projects themselves.
- PS: I think commons:Image:Wikimedia without text transparent.png may be mis tagged. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) tricks Jul 26, 2007 @ 08:01 (UTC)
