Wikia - creating communities

This wiki will be designed to allow cultures to interact and communicate with each other. It will allow people to share stories, recipies, ideas, and almost anything else. I am hoping it will help bring together cultures so they can understand each other better.

I like the idea! Bringing cultures together is always a good thing I guess. Although you can read much on Wikipedia:Wikipedia you don't really learn about the people living in those areas the article may be about.

Sounds like a good idea indeed, but maybe I'm affraid of the maintainability: isn't 'the internet' yet already the solution for that - all the different websites, all the links between each other - already implicitly that forum? So a forum to sit at the side of that would maybe just be noise. Instead of duplicating the allready existing data on the internet in a forum maybe it is also a good idea to make some sort of website which collects links and meta-data of these links and show that ... ?

I agree with you. But the internet is really big and if you do not know where to search you end up nowhere. A wiki, or a website like you suggested, would be great to collect together the masses of data available or at least link to them. Since a wiki is easier to maintain (more people can add and edit) I still think it would be the best solution except for a php board maybe.

You could also consider it slightly along the lines of the Novelias wiki in that going with the recipie idea people can put together lists of different cultural recipies that have been handed down to them. Dantman (Talk) 17:47, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
