Wikia - creating communities

I am going through the list of all wikias and sorting them into categories which make sense to me, thus creating my own List of Wikias by User Zephyrinus. This has turned into a task much larger than I originally anticipated and one which I do not recommend anyone repeat; hence I am letting people know I am doing this so that maybe I can prevent someone from inadvertently inflicting upon themselves the pain I am pranging myself with. This list is very "alpha" (i.e. even before well-known "beta" version). I am still visiting Wikias to determine if they are active or not and trying to classify them.

If the community so desires, I can append short tags to the community's list of all wikias which might help distinguish the "Chess" Wikia as a "board game" (which it is) rather than a "Broadway musical" (which it is not). Please let me know. And please note that this is not a promise to tag every Wikia in the list. At some point my head will clear from whatever drugs I am on and I will cease this mindless task and get back to other wikia work, but until then . . .

Impressive work! All the description pages are already categorised though, and so all the wikis are in the sub categories of. These can be pulled out on to pages too, using <dynamicpagelist>. So I wonder if we should be using that more, rather than directing people to the full list? That list is really getting unmanageable now. -- Sannse 12:19, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I had never heard of dynamicpagelist before so I entered it as a search term and one of the first things which came up revealed: "Does not work well with higher numbers of pages (say ~1000)" according to Splarka's tricks page. Since the List of All Wikias is potentially over 2000, it appears dynamicpagelist (whatever it is) won't work.

What I had in mind is clicking on "games" and having that open up a separate page which lists all games - this type of parsing will hopefully keep individual lists of Wikias more manageable.

Um, how about getting rid of the list alltogether (even after Zephyrinus get it done once, it'll still be an inhumane task to maintain it and keep it up to date), and just link to Category:Wikia categories instead? And perhaps work in improving the accuracy and division of the categorization system. -Afker 14:20, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
