Help talk:Promoting a wikia within Wikia
Wikia - creating communities
It's really useful to have a page on this. The focus right now seems a bit too much on things you can do on the Central Wikia, which is actually not one of the most visited wikis.
Linking to and from other Wikia wikis is likely to bring more visitors. An automated way is to ask for a spotlight logo to be placed on other wikis, but for wikis not yet large enough for that, there's a lot that editors can do manually.
For example, asking other wikis on related topics to add a footer with links to your network. See the Vanguard Wikia for an example - this one uses a gaming footer to promote related games.
You can also use interwiki linking within the content. This feature is really underused right now. For example, the StarCraft universe article mentions World of Warcraft but it doesn't link to the World of Warcraft wiki. There are many examples you can find where a word or phrase could be linked to another wiki, or more usefully, a specific page on another wiki. Searching for wikis that you could link to from your own writing is also a fun way of discovering other communities and helping them grow by linking them. It's easy to link to any wiki on Wikia using [[w:c:wikiname]] and any page using [[w:c:wikiname:pagename]].
