There is a low-traffic read-only Wikia announcements list which all users are encouraged to join.

There is a discussion list for Wikia as a whole. Questions, suggestions, bug reports, and general discussion about Wikia is welcome here.

Every Wikia site can request their own mailing list for the purpose of discussing their wiki. Larger wikis can also request spin-off lists for focused discussions.

Existing mailing lists are listed on the list info page.

Archives of posts to any list can be found at http://lists.wikia.com/pipermail/*-l/
Information on any list can be found at http://lists.wikia.com/mailman/listinfo/*-l
*Replace the asterisk with the name of the wiki.

Previously every new wiki was automatically given a mailing list. This is no longer the case due to spam, but every wiki is welcome to request a list which any member of the Community Team can create. Unused mailing lists made between 2004 and 2007 have now been deleted.

[edit] Posting

Mailing lists are publicly readable by default.

To prevent spam, you need to subscribe to be able to post to the lists.

Please note that by posting to a list, your post will be publicly and permanently archived by Wikia, and potentially also by third parties. Posts are likely to show up in search engine results pages. Posts are not generally removed, so please be sure before you send an email to a mailing list that you are happy for the content to be made public.

[edit] Mailing list admins

Each mailing list has at least one mailing list admin. By default, this is usually the first admin on the wiki, but any responsible user can volunteer for this task. Their main responsibilities are helping people to subscribe, and approving posts that were held for moderaton. These include posts from non-subscribers, posts that were too large, or posts with attachments.

Lists are usually set to reject spam by default. If you change this to allow spam to be held for moderation, note that this should be discarded, not rejected. DO NOT send spammers any messages, like "You need to subscribe" because this will increase the amount of spam you receive.

Other tasks include cross-posting messages that pertain to other lists and gently suggesting that contributors keep on topic and/or avoid flaming each other.

List admins can change specific options on their mailing list. Please ask if you need help with these.

See Mailing list administration for more details.

If you would like to become a list admin for the Central mailing list, please contact Angela.
