On the 2nd of February, 2009, Romanian President Traian Basescu has met in Budapest, Hungary with Hungarian President László Sólyom and discussed issues regarding minority rights and regional autonomy. Basescu affirmed "The Hungarian minority will never be given territorial autonomy".
