- I think that might be too off-putting when they can much more easily go to another wiki hosting and get an immediate wiki. We already reject a lot of applications, and give people the option of using Scratchpad instead, but if an idea does seem to have potential, I think trialling it on a real wiki is more likely to lead to that wiki taking off than it would at Scratchpad. I'd rather use the option of closing dead wikis than never letting them open at all. Angela (talk) 04:09, 2 Jul 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Archaeology Wiki Content Un-Available
I noticed that the content for the archaeology wiki was un-availalbe. Is there any reason for this?
The adopt a wiki page has stated that it has something to do with preventing spam, but mediawiki has the option of puting a page or a series of pages(in one process) into a static state so that they can not be edited.
Simply put up a notice that this wiki needs to be adopted, and proceed it with the original content. The original content would still be in reach, and the spam rate would be a nill factor, until the wiki is adopted.

Not quite as bad as the above! But had only a couple of hours' work by its founder.
I've added the suggested notice to its central wc listing. Added the bigger one (on this project page) to its homepage, but the links are all designed for central wc. I may fiddle a bit. In any event, I'll try to send a message to the founder.

[edit] Cities
I suspect there are a few Wikicities about Cities that are inactive. I propose moving the content to the Cities Wikicity and shutting them down. As some of you know, I've been doing some watching over the Cities Wikicity at a minimal level. If we combine some of the smaller city wikis, it may provide some synergy and more activity. At least we may get enough visitors to watch after the basics and clean-up vandalism.
For example, Westport was started on April 7th, last posted to on April 14th and only has 2 pages. I'll mark it for adoption for now.

If there is an inactive wiki and a user wants to adopt it immediately (but there's no "Adopt a Wiki" template on the site) what steps must you go through? Do you put the template on and then adopt it or can you skip the template process? --Lilio 04:43, 1 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- You can just start editing it. One can do a great deal without sysop rights. See Tolkien languages. Then if you think there needs to be an active sysop (in addition to the Wikia people who are probably sysops) you can ask. Robin Patterson 05:44, 1 Nov 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Meaning of 'inactive'
I was wondering whether inactive means that a wiki is completely devoid of all editors, or whether it's just completely devoid of all admins. If a wiki has a few regular editors (although the one I'm wondering about barely has any) but the founder is gone and there are no admins, does it still count as inactive? - That is not inactive. For such a wiki community to acquire more administrators, they should first attempt to contact the inactive founder (or other bureaucrats if any), and if they get no response they should hold a vote among the regular edtors, and then notify a staff of the results. --Splarka (talk) 21:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

The Spanish Mega Man wiki is wwaaayyyy time inactive. Only 3 articles after one year since creation, and are translations of the English wiki. --IP

I am interested in all itu standards and everything TCP/IP computer networks and I feel i could write some comprehensive articles about NGN,
Most of it will be based on Wikipedia, but some of it on itu, my all time favourite is Tanenbaums computer networks, which of cause is copyrighted.
Wifi Wimax NGN DSL ADSL POTS ISDN and everything networking is my monkey.

Ok, there wasn't any active admins there and Phil.e (who was one) came back and put up something on the forum for it. Shadow the plaumber became an admin, but he only edits occasionly, I'm not sure if that counts as someone could adopt it.
