[edit] Script-writing wikicity
Myself and two other classmates will be producing a storyboard and script for a short educational video which we are producing as part of our college work. Since we'll have to do quite a bit of work while away from each other (ie not face to face), I was thinking of having it as an ongoing collaborative venture in a wiki format, rather than having to save and resave word documents and send and resend by email. For our current purposes, scratchpad might be an option, but is it an idea to start a script-writing venture for film/television as a wikicity? I was thinking of this before - can't say I can guarantee people I know to get involved (though i do know some) but it strikes me as a good idea which could bring people together. Or does it already exist? Fiction wikicity doesnt seem to be what I'm thinking of.. Cormaggio 15:14, 1 Feb 2005 (PST)
- My first thought was that this could be part of the Fiction Wikia. I'd be interested to know why you don't think that would be the right place. Angela 16:03, 1 Feb 2005 (PST)
- It just seemed to me that Fiction Wikia was aligned towards novels or at least narrative prose and I think that writing for film/television or even the stage is quite different. Also, having a separate venture would possibly attract a more specific, focussed group of writers. I could see the script-writing idea sitting side by side with Fiction Wikia, and possibly within it, but it might be nice to be able to draw attention to specific aims and specific people. But if it fits with fiction wikicity (and I haven't made any other inquiries) then let it be.. Cormaggio 17:45, 2 Feb 2005 (PST)
- I think it can develop within the same wiki. I've added some sections to the main page to encourage non-novels to be developed there. If you add category tags such as [[Category:Scripts]] to any script-related pages, you'll be able to see everything related to that whilst ignoring the rest of the wiki if you prefer. You can then use Special:Recentchangeslinked/Category:Scripts to view the changes only to pages in that category. Angela 21:02, 2 Feb 2005 (PST)
- Thanks a million Angela - I've pretty much done as you outlined and added our basic (as of yet) outline. I'm not sure if my group will actually use it but will encourage them to do so. This was just an idea to help us along. Cormaggio 04:41, 4 Feb 2005 (PST)
[edit] Fiction Writing
I'd like to see a wiki for fiction writing. The topic is immense, and while there's a lot of material out there, it isn't in wiki format, so newer fiction writers (such as myself) can't so easily share our perspectives; a buletin board post on a writers' site would only be visible on the board.
I'm a member of one in-person writers' community and one immense online community. If this wiki is approved, I might well be able to get a bit of help from them. I know I'd be happy to pass on what little I know about the subject.
The wiki would not be intended to actually post fiction, other than short snippets within an article to demonstrate various techniques, not entire works by any means and so not overlapping the fiction wiki.
The one wikisource book on fiction is still very sketchy, I'm glad for any contribution, but I'd like a whole community if possible.
You input is appreciated. Thank you.
- Have you checked the "Language and Literature" paragraphs above? Your note could be better moved up to there. Robin Patterson 07:43, 11 Oct 2005 (UTC)

- This is now part of the fiction wiki. See w:c:fiction:Fictional writing. Angela (talk)
