[edit] Join my wikia!

Hey there, I've started this wikia for Playstation, and I'd like some help/More members.

Join now and become a valued member in our community!

I'm just starting off, and I can't do that many articles by myself now, can I?

Join now (now would be good) at www.playstation.wikia.com !

Have fun!

[edit] People...

I'm not going to get into the politics of whose wikis get on the front page or what order they appear in here, but if you are changing things around, please make sure the descriptions and game titles match up properly. Because I'm not gonna touch the politics, I'm just gonna revert to the most recent "correctly matched up order" everytime I catch things not matching up. Thank you for your cooperation. -Afker 21:40, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi there -- I'm actually working on revising this hub right now, at the request of the Wikia folks. The descriptions and game titles don't match up at the moment because I'm in the middle of revising the page. I'm going to be working on it probably for another hour or so, at which point it should all look great. -- Danny (talk) 21:45, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A template system

Let each gaming wikia have a template with the parameters:

 • Name
 • Link to main page
 • Icon (not necessarily logo)
 • Tagline

Then use the newest dynamic page list (which we don't have yet) to randomize which gets displayed on the right column. The left column will be the constant column that features some of the encompassing wikias (GameInfo, Cheatbase, Game sytems etc). How does that sound? -Afker 23:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

We can't make DPL2 do a tagline specific to pages. The best we can do is have it include a portion of that page in. But because of how infopages are made, that wouldn't always turn out in a very desireable way. Unless we went to each page, and added in
...
though, that may be an interesting idea. Though, I'm also sorry to note, that DPL2 doesn't have a randomized order. It's sorted no matter what.
My real thought is, why not use DPL2 to keep a nice list of the wiki in the category at the bottom of the page. It can even have a limit, and have a link to the category when there are more. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 21, 2007 @ 23:50 (UTC)
We can use DPL (latest version, not available on Wikia yet) to do tagline for speific pages, by feeding it into a template which may not necessarily do anything at all (except being read by DPL). I *think* the lastest version does randomization too... -Afker 23:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
^_^ DPL2 Does section transclusions to. But there is no randomization defined. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 22, 2007 @ 04:02 (UTC)

[edit] Companies

Is there some rhyme or reason to which 4 companies got listed? Sony Online Entertainment is a big player in the MMORPGs but was not listed AT ALL until I added them yesterday. --Florence Sopher of Lucan D'Lere (talk/contribs/templates) 00:30, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Florence -- I'm not sure exactly why those companies were chosen; Eric from Gameinfo created that part of the hub. I think he tried to split things up in that bottom area so that a lot of different games could be mentioned. The gaming wikis are always expanding, though -- the hub was created in April, and the landscape has changed already! So I'm glad you're keeping an eye on things, and updating the hub. -- Danny (talk) 14:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Umm, ironic that you left out the SonyWiki d-: -Afker 22:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Page getting too large

I'm guilty of it myself, but regardless, the list of wikis in the bottom half is getting way too large. Not to mention, now users seem to be adding wikis to the top half. Could whoever is in charge of managing this hub from the staff, please clarify what the criteria should be for which wikis should be listed and where?--Imaginationac (Talk | Edits | Email) 02:55, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, the idea of the list on the hubs pages is to list all of the active wikis in that category. The Gaming list is big, because we have a lot of active Gaming wikis. It doesn't seem too big to me; I think it's pretty easy to browse.
I agree that it's best that folks don't add their own wikis to the featured area at the top. It's tempting for people to add their new wiki to the featured wikis, because you want to drive some traffic to your new site. But it's not really fair to the communities that have been around for a long time, and have built active and successful wikis. -- Danny (talk) 12:57, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
I may have a solution of this and that is have, some what, of a system that some top wikis, some middle wikis, and some low wikis on the bottom. The rest shall be in the More Gaming Wikis with this system. I really hope that this works. But who knows. Sundogs eWE user talk 17:32, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Demote

This is kinda off-subject, but how does a Bureaucrat demote a sysop?-Uberninja1337

These type of questions should be asked at the help desk or the IRC channel. Anyway, only staff can de-sysop a user.--Imaginationac (Talk) (Edits) (Email) 18:50, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gold Stars...

Resident Evil Wikia has over 600 articles! [F]

[edit] Page structure proposal

Here's my idea of restructuring the Hub into sub-sections. In section order:

 • Hub Header (hub logo etc)
 • What's Hot - dynamic section based on which games have new expansions or releases that may temporarily increase interest for particular wikis. They get their full-sized Wiki.png logo and a blurb.
 • The Hits - The N biggest gaming wikis, based on article count and/or active user count. N is a value to be balanced against overall feel of the hub page. They get a 64px-wide logo and a blurb.
 • What's Cool - Additional M wikis that the community wish to highlight. Subjective list. Must be active and/or has substantial content so visitors won't bounce after entering. 32px-wide logo, no blurb.
 • Active Wikis - A list of wikis that are active. Bulleted lists (no logo no blurb)
 • Helping out - Wikis that we wish to recruit editors for. Including wikis that are newly starting out, or wikis on topics that should draw a crowd but currently is inactive and lack substantial content.

Suggestions/comments? -PanSola 15:12, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

A demonstration of hte proposal can be found at Gaming/Design4 -PanSola 00:55, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comments

Wow, I really like it. This definitely gives a more presentable look and adds an overall professional touch. Nice job, PanSola. --CharitwoTalk 15:44, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I can not get the page up, but, I like your idea. If someone can post the proposal of Design4; I will check it out.

[edit] GuildWiki

I've just finished adding GuildWiki to the top ten list; with a total of 17,730 content pages, it bumps up into spot number five, and pushes GameInfo off into spot eleven. Unfortunately, seeing as GuildWiki is still brand-new into Wikia, I've no clue what the shortcut command is for an inter-wiki link; so it's an external link on the page at the moment, and GuildWiki isn't added to the full list below. If anyone can come through and fix up what I couldn't manage, and double-check my work, it would be greatly appreciated. Now I'm off to import my old signature... Jioruji Derako 07:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Angies did a wonderful job writing up a short and simple blurb about the wiki; something about the flow of "snowy heights of the Far Shiverpeaks to the unexplored Depths of Tyria" struck a off-chord with me, though. Perhaps it's just my perfectionist nature. I edited it slightly, changing it to "sunny hills of Ascalon to the dark reaches of the Domain of Anguish", thus changing the flow from "heights and depths" to "easygoing and spirit-crushing". Not a big difference, really; only thing that bugged me was the fact that in-game, you can walk from the Shiverpeaks to the Depths of Tyria, while getting from Ascalon to DoA involves the full gambit of traveling across the entire continent, through multiple games, and fighting everything from lowly level zeros to level twenty-eights. :P I assume everyone already knows how to undo edits, if they don't agree? -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 08:26, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
The Far Shiverpeaks and the Depths of Tyria are new areas of the Eye of the North expansion, recently released. Ascalon ~ Domain of Anguish are older stuff. My 2 cents. -PanSola 14:25, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh, of course. I was going more along the lines of Pre-Searing Ascalon - first area everyone got when the game first came out - to Domain of Anguish, hardest area released so far. Another option, with a beginning to end theme, would be sunny hills of Ascalon to unexplored depths of Tyria. That goes from the first area released, to the last areas released. But of course, it's not that big of a deal. Either way, it works out great, eh? Oh, and Angies mentioned you were the one who originally wrote it that way, hope you don't mind how I just jumped in and messed around with it. -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 20:39, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
If I minded I wouldn't be on a wiki d-: How about a North-South theme? The vast Elonian savannas in the south VS the snowy Far Shiverpeak heights in the north. That way we get cross-continential coverage too, instead of being stuck on the same continent. -PanSola 02:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, if you're going to go that way, is there any wording we could do that embodies all three games? The snowy Shiverpeaks, Elonian sands, and Canthan... somethings...
...not sure how easy it would be to make all that fit, of course. Maybe we could bring up the subject on the GuildWiki community portal, let everyone have a go at it if we wanted to change it. -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 02:53, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Dunno. My primary agenda is to see something from Eye of the North represented in the blurb. Diversifying the continent was just something I felt would be a nice touch, but trying to touch all continents/campaigns might make things too wordy. -PanSola 03:05, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, that's always true. Perhaps run it from "Sunny hills of Ascalon to the dark, unexplored Depths of Tyria"? Runs from beginning to end, that way. I just like the feel of starting it off in Ascalon, but ending it in EotN is a good way to go. -- Ĵĩôřũĵĩ Đēŗāķō.>.cнаt^ 06:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Platinum stars?

If wikias with 500 get Gold... what about 'em with 1000? that'd be kwl.Forerunner 19:43, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be neat. Does anybody know how to make different color stars? Wikis that reach 2500 pages get on the Big wikis hub, but it would be good to show off the bigger wikis on the regular hubs. -- Danny (talk) 11:40, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikis in other languages with 500+ articles

They can be listed here or only on "Gaming wikis in other languages"? If there's a wiki in english and in other language, the wiki in english hasn't reached the 500 articles but the non-english one has more than 500, the english one gets the star? Or is replaced the link to the non-english one? --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 18:00, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Nothing happens if the English one is below 500, no matter how much the non-English one gets. The main Gaming hub is only for the English wikis. You are more than welcome to note the >500 acheivement of the non-English wiki on the Other Languages page though. -PanSola 00:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] About the other games

Hey everyone. Can someone please help me out with the Ace Combat wiki and the other gaming wikia? I could need some help.(76.247.222.101 06:02, 31 October 2007 (UTC))

Anything specific in terms of what you need help with? -PanSola 23:19, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Well there is Ace Combat, Sonic News Network and other wikias.(76.247.222.101 00:06, 1 November 2007 (UTC))

Let me rephrase my question: Anything specific about the Ace Combat wiki that you need help with? Right now you are like someone saying "I'm in California, I need help", and other people don't know if you can't find a particular road, or if you need medical attention, or if you don't know how to file your California state tax. Other people need more information to know what is the problem you are having. -PanSola 16:57, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] larger version of icons ?

Just wondering, is there larger versions of icons available that are used? IE: the stars for the number of pages you have on a wiki?

If there is great, would like to use it as a sort of "award" that can be posted in a news page on the age of conan wiki.

[edit] Highlights

I wasn't sure whether I should just try to add it myself or if I need to submit it, but for city of heroes, a large free expansion went live today called Issue 11: A Stitch in Time. - Snorii 21:26, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I went ahead and added it, had to figure out the w:c: link. :D - Snorii 14:56, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Redesign of page please!

I don't want to sound rude or anything, but, the left page box is going under the right page box. When will we see a design change or correction on this? Sundogs eWE user talk 17:59, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I see the exact opposite... I guess it's a screen width thing. Any good ideas on how to redesign it? -PanSola 19:25, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I guess, being the dirrent that most, my mothers' laptop screen setting being at the highest setting at 1440 by 900. The current layout presentation of the gaming hub does not reflect who I am, and also I do feel that it is time to change the main page that it should be more user friendly and more gamer related layout. I like to suggest that the wikia gaming hub users should submit their ideas on the next layout then we all vote on what goes on it like the feel of it, design, colors, and all other things that factor in as well, and also the large amount of wikis that are listed on the bottom of the same page is little out there, and should have their own seperate but equal page. In my honest opinion, the layout should be redesign to look more like a gaming hub with a gamestore layout with the past, present, and the future games and consoles; which includes, game characters, logos, some form of a To-Do List, guidelines, and more in-hub promotion on wikis, forums and meetings on wikia's internet relay chat system. As I said before, I am different than most and I leave you with this, we gamers should stand up for what games we do like. Sundogs eWE user talk 21:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] When a wiki reached 500 or 1000 pages...

Can anyone change the "value" of the star beside it, or is there a process? The StarCraft wiki just crested 1000 pages and I was hoping to change the yellow star to an orange star. PsiSeveredHead 12:37, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

anyone can do it. -PanSola 17:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I know it's possible, since I saw the codes before, but the appropriate section doesn't have an edit button (and using the top edit button doesn't give access to that section). PsiSeveredHead 23:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I've reverted the vandalism. You should be able to find the section edit link now. -PanSola 23:25, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
