Wikia - creating communities

Older discussion has been removed. In summary, Wikia sites aren't added since they all work with [[w:c:subdomain]] or [[wikia:c:subdomain]] from Wikia sites other than the Central Wikia but older ones are left to avoid breaking existing links. Suggested additions/removals can be made below. A special page has been suggested as an alternative. Other language versions of Wikipedia can be linked to like this: [[Wikipedia:fr:Article]]. The list does not always update automatically. Please contact Wikia if you need the list updated.

On GuildWiki, discussions and other references have a non-trivial need to link to those two wikis, so it'd be great if we can get interwiki mappings for them. I hate to sound repetitive here, but I'm just requesting these as I come across them. I'd like to link to Zelda Wiki.org (http://zeldawiki.org/Main_Page) from the Smash Bros. Wiki. The Xfire protocol looks like this: 

xfire:add_friend?user=FRIEND-NAME

Is there any chance this can be supported in Wikia? It's no big deal if it can't/won't be implemented, I just thought it'd be a neat idea, especially because on the Left 4 Dead wiki we're putting our Xfire names in our User pages, and being able to link them to add us as friends would be pretty cool.

In case you're unaware of what Xfire is, it's an instant messenger application for gamers. It allows gamers to IM their friends while in-game by doing some crafty things to get the IM interface to draw on top of the game when you press a hotkey. It's pretty widely used by PC gamers in general, so this could help a lot of other PC game-centric wikis as well.

This will probably not be implemented, since the list of supported protocols is hard-coded into the system. However, even if it was implemented, it would be as a normal [external link], and not an interwiki link. I'm not a staff member though, so you can try contacting the Wikia staff and see what they have to say about this. --Skizzerz 03:52, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

It was causing problems at pvx its self. GuildWiki can still use the normal w:c:pvx interwiki --Uberfuzzy@Wikia 22:21, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
It might have been nice if somebody had told us. For what it's worth, pvx: internal links still work, but they're not pointing to the wikia site. If you decide to turn that off (rather than fix the URL, which I'd prefer), I'd appreciate a heads up a few days in advance so we can run a bot to convert them. --◄mendel► 10:39, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

While on the subject, there's also a guildwiki: interwiki link that works everywhere on wikia. It goes to http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/ here, but to http://www.guildwiki.org/wiki/ on regnum.wikia.com. It works correctly on Hotel Caesar Wiki, too. --◄mendel► 14:40, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
