[edit] Memory Alpha / redlink color
Apparently, a third CSS file is now included on every page. This file does nothing but setting the redlink color to #CC2200. Since it is included after the sitewide Mediawiki:Monobook.css, we don't have any possibility to change this. Is there any good reason for this behaviour? You can check the file here. -- Cid
I did some quick research and found a diff of a PHP file ("Article.php"?) somewhere. In that file, there's a function getUserStylesheet() which, among other things, sets the redlink color to a hardcoded value of #CC2200 if "1 != $wgUser->getOption( "highlightbroken" )". I can only guess that this refers to the setting in Preferences->Misc. IMO, this hardcoded CSS fragment needs to be removed. -- Cid, too
Workaround (thanks Splarka): Add "!important" to the color definition in Monobook.css. -- Cid, again
[edit] Mediawiki:Missingimage
Has the use of this message changed somehow? Before the update, the content of this Mediawiki page was shown instead of an image in case it was mssing, and we edited that page to include some sort of "Attention" icon on Memory Alpha. Now, all we get is a text link to the image description page. See here: Image:This-image-does-not-exist.png -- Cid
[edit] Cite.php
With this new version, would'nt it be a good idea to propose the famous extension Cite.php for references and footnotes ? The CharInsert extension would be a good idea too, in my opinion... (Sorry if it's the wrong page for that kind of proposal, I didn't find better place for it). --Christian Lars 23:22, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- No one responded here, so I am guessing that Cite.php is not as famous as you say it is. Can you give a link to more information about Cite.php, or an example of its use in a wiki? --Kernigh 19:44, 6 April 2006 (PDT)
- Hello, I said it's famous because almost all wikimedian projects use it : it permits to make footnotes easily, with the <ref> tag. You can find info here : [1] --Christian Lars 00:06, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. The cite.php is easy to use and thus a good way to encourage contributors to cite their sources when editing. Hopefully it's possible to add without too many problems. Aussiewebber 12:55, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

- Sorry to update this old part of this article, but it's the only one with “CharInsert” in all www.wikia.com. As proposed by Christian Lars, the Cite.php extension was installed, but not the CharInsert.php extension (insertion of special characters in the textarea box). Please, could this extension be installed? Thank you. — Ethaniel 15:47, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MA upgrades?
Hey, guys. I hate to pester ya'll, but do you know when Memory Alpha is going to be upgraded to MediaWiki 1.6? We've been waiting for quite some time, and it would be nice to have the security issues of this new version so we can get certain vandals off our backs. Thanks for an info, and sorry if this isn't the right place for this. --172.165.81.242 02:57, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- The first few Wikia have been upgraded, and Jason is currently chasing down the bugs that this caused. Once he has those found and squashed, he can move on to the next batch. So I can't give an exact timescale, it's taken longer than expected already. But Jason is working on it, and hopefully it will be soon. Sorry not to be more specific -- sannse (talk) 01:14, 7 April 2006 (PDT)
Ok, that's all I needed to know. Thanks for the update! :) --172.152.12.53 15:42, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reassigning edits?
Where can I find how to use the new "maintenance script to reassign edits from one user to another"? Can it also be used to reassign edits from an IP address to a registered user? --Spankart 20:09, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] mathochism
The <math> tag appears to be broken, http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Katrina#Math just shows up as regular markup text instead of being rendered as a formula. This is happening in both Uncyclopedia and dÉsencyclopédie, as well as other wikis, for instance:
Katrina has been determined to be both calculating and ruthless:
The random <choose>/<option> tags are also still needed on dÉsencyclopédie.
Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in. Our technical staff has been alerted to this problem, and we hope to have it fixed very soon. Some users have had more luck when they preview their edits before saving them
Uh, and what was *that* about??? --carlb 20:46, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Logoffs, problems saving edits
We are currently experiencing the following bugs:
- users find themselves logged out completing an edit, even if they were logged in when they started it. This results in edits accredited to the IP address, rather than the user name.
- edits can't be saved after previewing. Usually it helps to click "save page" again and again, the 3rd or 4th or 7th attempt usually succeeds. The error message says "Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data." and it also says the technical staff is already working on it.
--Spankart 21:17, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- Both bugs are fixed now. Thanks guys. --Spankart 16:47, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] And now I can't log in
And now I can't log in (at least on http://www.desencyclopedie.com ):
- Desencyclopedie utilise des cookies pour la connexion mais vous avez les cookies désactives. Merci de les activer et de vous reconnecter.
The Evil Cookie Monster gets ugly when deprived of cookies...
I tried changing MediaWiki:Nologin and MediaWiki:Nocookieslogin to display a link back to the desencyclopedie.wikia.com login page (instead of desencyclopedie.com) - that sort of works for nokookieslogin (after the error has occured) but I can't put any sort of link in nologin (either interwiki or HTML)? An ugly kludge even if it were to work... --carlb 00:54, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Timestamp misalignments
Occasionally I've noticed edits being saved with incorrect and out-of-order timestamps. For example, of my three most recent edits to the Uncyclopedia Beginner's Guide, the third is the most recent, but has a timestamp of 8 hours before the others. I can't help but think that this could potentially cause some very serious problems. Just letting you know. --Algorithm 21:39, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Same thing here, from http://desencyclopedie.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Recentchanges :
- (diff) (hist) . . M Saviez-Vous; 18:41 . . Carlb (Discuter | contribs | bloquer) (archiver)
- (diff) (hist) . . Modèle:SaviezVous; 10:40 . . 66.102.65.73 (Discuter | bloquer) (archiver)
Eight hours apart? No, should be same time/same user as this is merely archiving text from one of the page one templates to the regular page of the same name. And:
- (diff) (hist) . . Desencyclopedie:Modèle; 06:28 . . 84.40.25.240 (Discuter | bloquer) (→Série de pages - )
C'est quoi? My edit to the list of templates, attributed to some other user's anonIP address. --carlb 00:28, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
There had been instances before the upgrade (on talk pages such as uncyclopedia:fr:Discussion Modèle:Matières) where user signatures were displaying British Columbia time instead of UTC, even though the user (and server) is in some other timezone. Could this relate to some of these odd eight-hour discrepancies? --carlb 03:13, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] désencyclopédie.com
Je suis le gros admin méchant... I just blocked the same user eight times for section-blanking most of a previously-featured désencyclopédie article:

I can log onto desencyclopedie.wikia.com but not desencyclopedie.com; when I try to block «un vandale», it adds the block and then sends me to a désencyclopédie.com page saying that the block attempt failed because I'm not logged in (and therefore not admin or anything else). According to the logs, the offending user is being properly Banned from the Internet, but when it gives me errors, I retry. «Le bon Dieu» help any petty vandal who ends up on the wrong side of a grouchy désencyclopédien at five in the morning... --carlb 09:20, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] ReferenceError - can't find variable: urchinTracker
I noticed today that several Wikia including Central Wikia are now using MediaWiki 1.6, but that the bottom of each Wikia page now looks like:
<!-- Served by box5.tpa.wikia-inc.com in 0.426 secs. --><script type="text/javascript"> _uacct = "UA-288915-1"; urchinTracker(); </script> </body> </html>
However, if I have JavaScript error reporting enabled in the Konqueror 3.4.2 web browser, I get an error that "urchinTracker" does not exist. (In #wikia on Freenode, Angela says that this has something to do with "Google Analytics".) I am guessing that you forgot to load whichever JavaScript contains an urchinTracker function. --Kernigh 03:41, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] It's even 1.7alpha!
Correct me if I am wrong, but we are using v1.7alpha already, aren't we? --84.156.89.131 01:59, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Database download
The XML download links listed on Database download are broken (404). http://www.wikia.com/dbdumps/dbdumps.html lists as "zero bytes" every current and every full XML dump, none of which actually exist if the links there are clicked. --carlb 01:05, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Inputbox stopped warning when creating, but page already exists
Help:Inputbox documents an extension that causes the creation inputbox to give an error if the page already exists. I do not know whether this was intentional, but now there is no such error. Just type the name of an existing page (like MediaWiki) into the box; in the past it would give an error, but now it does not. --Kernigh 03:55, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] .svg thumbnails
I'm seeing a strange problem with .svg files here (which I'm not seeing in Wikipédia). The article uncyclopedia:fr:Lapin rose is basically an old copy of wikipedia:fr:Lapin du métro parisien with minor changes. The wikipedia:fr:Image:Lapinrose ratp.svg is a direct copy of uncyclopedia:fr:Image:Lapinrose ratp.svg - an icon of a pink bunny with one paw accidentally caught in the doors of a subway (métro) train. It looks fine in Wikipédia, but on the Désencyclopédie the identical image thumbnails with all of the windows missing! Comment ça??? --carlb 21:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)</ref>
[edit] Variables
When I use {{fullurl:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|action=edit}} in our wikia(zh.basketball), it get the wikicites not wikia. Anyone know how to solve this problem? Or I made some mistakes?

Hi my name is Josh Nicks AKA BobafettH23 My problem is that my friend corey aka YoDa90210 was one my computer where we share a ip address and he thought it would be funny to vandalise my user page behind my back. Then they band the ip address which we shared. Now because of his stupid actions I can't edit anymore pages. Please Help me BobafettH23 01:31, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
