[edit] Introduction
I set this page up with direct links to the various wikis, but I'm wondering if it would be better to link them to the description pages. My thought was that people who were looking at this page wouldn't want to have to click twice to enter the wikis. Maybe I should have a description page link at the end of each entry. What do you think? Chadlupkes 16:48, 18 Dec 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Politics portal?
I think it would be useful to have something like a politics portal for wikicities. There is no need to duplicate the links that are in Category:Politics. Links to description pages or local tours would be good. Society Gardens could function as a portal that links together wikicities that fall into several existing categories. Eventually there might be a dozen or so such portals. --JWSchmidt 20:05, 18 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Eventually, I hope there will be portals. As they take shape, my concern was that people might not identify specific wiki cities as having to do with Politics, so I added them in myself. This page should probably be moved to a portal page, but I think we might have to get some more people involved in contributing to the overall effort. Right now there are many pages on Wikipedia that could use links to various cities, and that might also be a project we could start. For example, I added a link to the Wine Wikicity on the wine page. I'll do the same for beer. We should tout the fact that we can go more into commercial names and not worry about NPOV as much, because many of the cities here are designed for specific points of view anyway. Maybe Angela will have more to say about this. I haven't read enough of the restrictions for use of the cities sites. Chadlupkes 00:33, 19 Dec 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Is anyone active on these sites?
I've been looking through the political wikicities here on this list, and I hope it's just the Xmas season preventing people from doing anything. There is so much overlap between the scope of all of these, and there are so many other systems out there working on the same basic information, like dKosapedia. What are the criteria for letting some of these go after a time period with no updates? And how do we prevent the overlap with Wikipedia, which is getting more and more updates about national and local politics both inside and outside the US. I think that Wiki systems are to the 2006 election what Blogs were in 2004, or at least they could be. How do we make that happen? Chadlupkes 00:35, 24 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I guess I'm going to have to answer my own question. Nobody is working on most of these sites, and I'm actually wondering if we should start combining them by category. Any thoughts? Chadlupkes 21:03, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] General Greek Politics
Hello. I'm wondering if it's ok to create a general Greek politics wiki, which could cover information regarding political activism, and their subgroups, or just a wiki for the politically interested Greek people. (or just people who are interested in Greek politics or Greek political activism) Olewi 20:18, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- What kind of articles are we talking about? If you want a political site in the Greek language, that would be great! If you're interested in that, please Start a new Wikia:put in a request. If you'd like to use one of the existing sites to create the articles while you are waiting, please feel free. Chadlupkes 20:33, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- For example one article could be about <start> "priorities in the city Thessaloniki (northern Greece)"
- Cleaner water
- Bureaucracy
"Greek citizen rights"
- Right to read any public paper as long as there are no privacy issues stated.
<end>. (I'm finished typing my message). Olewi 13:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC) Olewi 09:46, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Greek politics wiki
As noted on Olewi's talk page, there is now w:c:el.campaigns. Robin Patterson 02:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Do you think we should add all of the other languages that Campaigns is in? Chadlupkes 04:46, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Future of this page
I agree, of course, with much of what Chad wrote above. In theory, category:Politics is enough, but in practice it's not the best guide because a wiki name can't express the full range of subject-matter nor give much idea of the site's mission. A list here has value for people interested in choosing a wiki to join. Additional thought: the links to the sites themselves could include maybe the "Recent Changes in last 30 days"! Anyway, I've added to the category a note with a link to the portal, so that the portal may eventually contain most of the active Wikia. Robin Patterson 02:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- I like the idea of having links to Recentchanges. I do that on my personal page so I can bounce among them easily. Chadlupkes 04:47, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
