Talk:Prohibited content
Wikia - creating communities
The following reply was in response to an issue raised about this page on the peace-l mailing list.
This shouldn't actually make any difference to any of the wikis we currently host. I can't think Wikicities would have approved such content anyway, so, although the exact wording of the terms come from Google's AdSense policy, it shouldn't be seen as Google actually having any control over our content. Much of the "prohibited content" was already disallowed by our own terms of use. If there were a legitimate reason for a wiki to contain content which violated the AdSense policy, we would simply choose to use an alternative funding mechanism for that wiki. - Is talking about the home brewing of beer going to be prohibited? -ts-
I've no idea what they class as the "promotion of beer". Would a page which tells you the best places to go for beer in Las Vegas be considered as promoting it? Much of the policy seems open for interpretation. Angela 15:48, 17 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- Since mature content is prohibited, does that mean
- we're limited to immature content? ~ Steve
- Yes, but I think most wikis still conform to the guidelines in that case. ;) - furrykef 14:43, 9 Mar 2005 (GMT)
Well then ... onward. ;) LOL -ts-(talk) 16:20, 18 Feb 2005 (GMT)
There's a provision against "Gambling or casino-related content". What constitutes such content? This restriction seems bizarre. I mean, would an article on how to play poker constitute such content? If not, what if it had a link to a site where you can play poker -- then would it fall under that definition? - furrykef 14:43, 9 Mar 2005 (GMT)
- I'm assuming they're saying that you can't promote gambling. In my interpretation of the policy, pages about gambling should be fine. Similarly, linking to sites to be useful isn't the same as linking to them to promote them, so this should be ok. IANAL, nor am I Google, but I'm fairly sure it won't be a problem, and we can always replace the ads if Google start objecting. Angela 17:05, 9 Mar 2005 (GMT)
Prohibited content should be in a non-adsensed category, and prior to have access to any of this prohibited content, an clear explaination should explain why this content is prohibited, and the agencies location fighting this kind of content, because actually some of this content are legal in some countries, plus any kind of information should be free, i would be happy to learn the danger of compulsive gaming for instance, or from internet pharmarcy (last casualties in 2005) - and how/where to report them. [edit] Profanity
Since Wikicities dosen't want excessive profanity, what if somebody creates a Wiki specializing on information about swearwords? (e.g. ass, shit, fuck, and all those others). --SamuraiClinton 02:41, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
- I don't see a point for a separate wiki for that since Wiktionary already includes these words. Angela (talk) 10:18, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
so a Wikicity about South Park is out?
- While I don't speak for Wikicities, I doubt it. It's just you shouldn't be saying "I hate that f***ing stupid Cartman character, he ruined that s***** episode." -- user:zanimum
- And there's now a Beavis and Butt-head wiki, so... Mindspillage (spill yours?) 23:45, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Damn profaniy ad absurdum. Everytime I say (or read) magic words like "fuck" someone turns into a frog and DomoKun kills a kitten. --ollj 15:50, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hyperlinks policy
Is it permissible in a Wikicities wiki to have links to websites that offer content that would be prohibited within the wiki, such as adult or pornography related content? Is there a policy or guideline regarding such links? --Spankart 17:41, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
