What is the best thing for me to do? I report a couple of spams per week, and I would be quite happy to delete them from the Vim Tips wiki myself if that is what should be done. I vaguely thought that reporting it here was best so someone wiser than I could work out whether other stuff should be done (look for it on other wikis; blacklist phrases...).

You should do both. Reporting the IP allows us to check for it on other wikis, reporting the wiki allows janitors and staff to view the deleted page. If there's a specific URL used, report it here so central sysops can blacklist it. If you've done all that, delete it. -- Manticore Talk | Contributions 04:01, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Generally any url with the word porn in it is not needed to have a link to it on Wikia. And in fact, the addition of the generalized words has appeared to actually remove 85% of the linkspam we get, so it would be best to keep that. If you really need a link to something on a wiki, you can always whitelist it. Thanks for the advice on the whitelist and I'll give that a try now. If it's not possible to fine tune the filter, it would be nice to see this on a global whitelist. It goes beyond a single interest group. News, politics, documentary films, cable TV, media celebrities , and, of course, Wikiality. Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the IP and get Angela to run the delete script again if needed. Blacklisting that URL is probably a bad idea because I imagine there are plenty of legitimate uses for it.
