[edit] Removal of accents to make names more searchable
A new member of one Wikia has moved a "place" page so that the place name loses its accent. His explanation was that it makes it more likely to be found by English-language search engines. There was already an unaccented page, being a redirect to the accented one. He hasn't changed any of the appearances of the accented word in the text.
Page history in case anyone really interested
Having made an effort to preserve the accent (incidentally matching the Wikipedia equivalent), I was a little miffed; however, diplomatic as always, I welcomed him with my usual template.
Wikipedia and Wikia may have policies on this, but I've dug around for them without success. Any opinions?
(And if there's already a redirect with the unaccented version, is there any gain in searchability if one moves "back" to that unaccented version (still having one page with each spelling)?)
