[edit] Wikia Journalism
As a once and future journalist, I'm very sympathetic to this idea! I have attempted similar news-like pages here and here. Let me know if I can be of any help! Are you looking at something simliar to the Wikipedia Signpost? I like the way that's organized on Wikipedia. - Nhprman 17:12, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! The main help we are going to need is in adding news items. I was thinking of somthing similar to the Signpost in content, but initially all on one page for easy acess from local wikia. Later it might be better for the main page to have headlines only (and maybe important anoucement) and have subpages for the content. I want to keep it as simple as possible to start with, and see how the idea develops. -- sannse (talk) 01:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Has this project been rejected or developed in other pages or ways? --Let's 21:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Blog
The General Wikia blog (see Wikia Blogs) has now been set up to take content from MediaWiki:Blog snippet so this can be used to generate the RSS and provide an alternate way for people to read The Daily Edit. Angela talk 20:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] name...
If it's a monthly publication, wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it the Monthly Edit? d-: -Afker
- When I became editor-in-chief of The Daily Edit, I was thinking of changing the name to The Monthly Edit or The Wikia Signpost. However, as sannse explained, The Daily Edit is for people who edit daily. We might decide to change it later, but for now, we're keeping the name. --Leon:2323 | SMARTSIG | Contribs 20:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- The Daily Editors? d-: -Afker 23:43, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- Since this publication deals with Wikia, why not include it in the name....No specific suggestions come to mind at the moment.--Imaginationac (talk) (Aselia, the Tales wiki) (Tabula Rasa Wikia) 01:15, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Activity?
There seems to be little activity from the Daily Edit, on the wikimedia's foundation site (Wikipedia) they have over 792 subscribers for the Signpost which have been successful - if the name gets changed or improved will it be possible if users can subscribe in a section like over on Wikipedia's signpost spam list which will only get a automated bot to send the Daily Edit to their talkpage and not by email. [edit] Resurrection
I'm interested in resurrecting The Daily Edit. I have managed to keep a local wiki newsletter, The Ba Sing Se Times on Avatar Wiki fairly stable in terms of releases and popularity, and I want to given a chance to attempt to repeat this successful experiment for The Daily Edit. Here are my insights into how it should be done.
- There are two potential models I may follow for The Daily Edit. One would be based on the Wikipedia model, and the other on the Avatar Wiki model, which I adapted from the Uncyclopedia model. I personally prefer the latter as it is easier to read at a glance without wasting time on a large amount of links, but I'm willing to talk about that.
- I would certainly pursue a monthly release model before attempting anything like fortnightly or weekly, because unless a large amount of users are around to help me write, I could not possibly finish an issue that fast.
- At this stage, I will probably try to keep all the facets of the newsletter from Leon's time.
Obviously, for the newsletter to become a larger success, I will need assistance from at least a small number of users. Fingers crossed that that will happen. Thanks. Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 07:47, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
