Talk:Translation
Wikia - creating communities
[edit] Discussion from proposed wikis
I was filling in an application for a wiki as a translation tool and meeting point for translators. But I was interupted, and I'm not sure that I submitted the form. So could one of the admins check for me? Also is there any community interest in such a project? Zeimusu 22:51, 30 Dec 2004 (PST)
- Hi James [now renamed Zeimusu]. I did get the request form and sent you an email about it today. I am concerned that the wiki may duplicate existing work at Wikimedia's Wikisource project which contains source texts which can be translated and edited on the wiki. I'd be interested to know if people feel there is a need to have a separate Wikicity for this purpose, or whether such translations can occur just within Wikisource. Angela
- Great, I've replied at slightly greater depth in email, but this is the gist of my argument: Translation falls in between original creation at wikibooks, and the collection and copyediting at wikisource. I want to encourge the idea of translation being an act of creation, rather than duplication. This makes me feel that neither wikisource nor wikibooks is quite the right place. A new wiki may, simply by recognizing the distict status of translations, encourage translators.Zeimusu 20:50, 2 Jan 2005 (PST)
- Now exists at http://translation.wikicities.com/
