Talk:What Wikia is not
Wikia - creating communities
What wikicities is not
[edit] Suggestions
- a dating service
- No, User:JRomance.
- Shouldn't that be obvious without needing to state it? Angela 07:41, 1 Mar 2005 (GMT)
[edit] Titles are for titles!
Why not mention/link on this page services which ARE for personal wiki creation -- 62.252.224.12
- Google ads used to do that on the side of the page, I have not seen a free service yet that does what you ask. --Tom talk/Bliki 19:55, 28 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- http://www.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome (not nearly as good as Wikia; it runs on a different wiki engine called XWiki). – Jello2 20:00, 28 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- I've found ElWiki which is absolutely terrible, especially compared to Wikia. They basically thought they could copy and paste Wikipedia (they even used its copyrighted logo). They have a GNU FDL badge in the corner, but they do not list the text of the license anywhere. They also give you no help. Chrispy 03:45, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Suggestions
Suggested additions from Mark Pellegrini:
- Do Wikia and Wikipedia share the same resources (servers, colo, internet pipe, 'etc, administrators)?
- Are they financially separate? If not, in what way do they overlap?
- To what extent do personnel on Wikipedia and Wikia overlap? (Both editors and staff)
I'm not yet sure if this should go on What Wikia is not (since Wikia is not Wikimedia), or whether a separate page detailing the relationship between the 2 is needed. Angela (talk) 19:32, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
