Press Release for November 2nd, 2006.

Subject: Campaigns Momentum update

Contents

[edit] Background

  • Launched on July 4, 2006
  • Mission Statement
    • "How people interact in a political arena is significantly influenced by the type of media that brings them information about political subjects. Broadcast Media, including Newspapers, Radio and Television, has brought us Broadcast Politics where we are either told what to believe or shown what candidates believe so we can choose between them. Participatory Media, including the editorial pages in Newspaper, Community Radio, Public Television and the Blogs and Wiki systems on the Internet, have always brought us Participatory Politics where we are asked what we think and we are encouraged to push our own ideas and values into the debate. In participatory politics, candidates come to us for support and ideas, and are elected or not depending on whether we believe they will carry our ideas and values into that elected office." - Chadlupkes 18:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Current Status & statistics

  • Languages: English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Chinese, and Japanese
  • Over 600 pages on English Campaigns
  • Global Voters Guide
  • Electoral Calendar
  • New logo thanks to Ingmar from Germany! - shows international collaboration.

[edit] Policies

  • Allow Points of View
    • "Allow Points of View (APOV) is a policy that encourages people to express their viewpoints, and would discourage us from doing anything that would prevent others from expressing other viewpoints. If you disagree with something, explain why by participating in the discussion. Instead of preventing the education of people who have not yet made up their minds and want to learn from all sides, APOV allows us to learn from each other and understand other viewpoints." - Quote from policy page, written by Chad Lupkes and the Campaigns Wikia community.
  • Campaigns Wikia is not an Encyclopedia

[edit] Future plans

  • Contact 2008 campaigns in the US, and other national level campaigns around the world.
  • Contact think tanks for possible wiki debate and cooperative white paper development.
  • Expand user base to extend global information reach. Elections are happening every month somewhere in the world. Our goal is to get people engaged, educated and empowered to become the change they wish to see in the world.
