Fanfiction wiki

We had a little problem with a vandal, User:220.239.184.108, earlier today and since there is no active admin at thew wiki, all we could do is revert all his edits. I was hoping you could ban him so we don't have to worry about him returning. This is the first time I've seen a vandal on the site, so I don't think we need an admin, but it leave that for you to decide as well. --Vinny2 23:33, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I'll keep an eye on the Recent changes and see if it's persistent (and whether different IPs are used). If it continues, blocks may be imposed to stop the vandal. GHe (Talk) 01:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Shiran009 blocked on Vim Tips wiki

Hi GHe. Thanks for your help fighting spam. At w:c:vim:User_talk:JohnBeckett#User:Shiran009 you suggested that I should block spammer Shiran009. I have now done that. What puzzled me was that I couldn't see the user in w:c:vim:Special:Listusers even with 'Show all'. So I vaguely thought that the user account must be elsewhere, outside my control.

BTW the following spam report might have been missed Talk:Spam_Blacklist#Canadian_Pharmacy_Online. I'm very new to this. I gather that it is best for me to report that spam (as done), rather than just delete the page myself? (I infer that you can check other wikis, and do other tricky things that I would miss.) Interesting about the Russian spammer from Shanghai

If you do a search for the term "Скоро новый год, поэтому надо уже сейчас думать, что можно подарить самым близким!", you can see that it has been posted everywhere. Also, article titles containing "Что подарить на Новый год" ("Gifts for the New Year") (the summary used in the above spam) have been blocked recently due to spam, and I've just blocked summaries starting with that phrase to prevent further postings of similar spam. GHe (Talk) 19:33, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
