Adoption requests (how to become an admin on an existing wiki)
[edit] Hikipedia2
Hi Pullamosso. Wikia would be happy to provide hosting for Hikipedia. Moving has some details about moving a wiki to Wikia. If you have any questions about that, or special requests, the best way is to email me (angela at wikia.com). Angela
(talk) 15:15, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
- I would prefer talking here so that every Hikipedian (Moi mussukat!) could follow. There are surely things that will change inevitably and naturally we are scared to death because of them. Could you tell what those things will most likely be? --Pullamosso 12:12, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
- There are basically 3 things that would change.
- The URL would be something.wikia.com (you can choose any available subdomain)
- Adverts would be added, but logged in users would not see these except on the home page
- The default skin may need to change to monaco some time in the future.
- There are basically 3 things that would change.
- Some users may need to change their username. That would only happen if there is an active user at Wikia with the same name already. You have over 9000 user accounts, so this would affect some people. We try not to let it affect admins or the most active users. (It would not likely apply to anyone reading this!)
- Importantly, the wiki license does not change. All authors retain their own copyrights and the content remains available under the same Creative Commons license that you use already.
- In terms of the software, we would try to keep any extensions you're already using and also make many more available to you as an option for the community to use if they want to. That does depend on them being safe. Looking at the current list, the only ones I've not heard of before are the APC cache and the Alexa one, so we'd need to make sure that these don't have any security vulnerabilities if you want to continue using them.
- I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any concerns about the move.
- Angela

- Okay, thanks. But is it possible to maintain the default appearance as it is? --Pullamosso 07:39, September 23, 2009 (UTC)
- For now, yes - the wiki could be on the monobook skin, but I can not promise it would stay that way forever, and it would include ads like the German edition does. Angela
(talk) 23:17, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
- For now, yes - the wiki could be on the monobook skin, but I can not promise it would stay that way forever, and it would include ads like the German edition does. Angela
- Why? We are very fond of it. It would be a great loss. --Pullamosso 15:17, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
I transferred this here so it's easier for you to follow :) --Pullamosso 12:13, September 28, 2009 (UTC)
- That's a good idea. I just don't want to make guarantees about a skin that we may not support forever. I understand that it's important for a parody of Wikipedia to maintain the same look and feel as that site, though even Wikipedia is planning a new skin soon. You can see it here. When changes like that are made, the new code put into MediaWiki doesn't always support older skins and it's important to move forward with new things and not have to keep some wikis on an old version so that they look exactly the same. Of course, the skins are always customisable though, and some wikis have made the monaco skin look more like the old monobook one. See Guild Wars or TimeSplitters for examples. Angela
(talk) 12:50, September 28, 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I know. We parodied even that already. But could you promise that the outlook of Hikipedia will be at least like Wikipedia's if it has to change? --Pullamosso 16:35, September 28, 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I can't. It may be necessary to change skins in the future. However, users will be able to choose their own skin in their preferences, so it won't affect anyone that's actually involved in the wiki - just unregistered users until they log in and set their preferences. Angela

- I am afraid we can not accept that. --Pullamosso 12:38, September 30, 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry about that. Is there anything we could do to customise Monaco to make it acceptable? Angela

- Well, if it could imitate the current look of Hikipedia or possibly the future look of Wikipedia...? --Pullamosso 20:07, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
- What do you think about the guildwikis look? Is that close enough? The one big difference is that the sidebar can not be made any narrower. Angela

[edit] Azusanity
Anon1Guardian
I know you won't be able to help but Anon1Guardian has hacked into Oppdis's account on the Azusanity wiki--Daipenmon 03:01, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
- I recommend that Oppdis contacts staff by email to arrange resetting his password. It has to be done by email since the password can't be given out on the wiki. Angela

But he doesn't know about Anon1Guardian hacking his account yet, l tried to stop him and undo what he did but, he blocked my Veemon acount.--Daipenmon 03:31, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
- Is this on Wikia? If so, please can you give me a link to the wiki and details about why you think the account was hacked. Thanks, Angela

The wiki is powered by MediaWiki:Sitenotice, the same with Wikipedia and Wikia, Anon1guardian just blocked Funakounsoul and Daniel benfield the reason was unacceptable names, but the reason he blocked my Veemon accounto was false infomation.--Daipenmon 03:44, September 25, 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately that wiki is not hosted by Wikia. They just use the same software (which anyone is free to use). So, I can't block that user or help Oppdis. I can't even make an account and log in to revert the vandalism as there's a problem with the recaptcha key. None of the wiki's admin seem to be active anymore. One thing you could do if you can't get in touch with the owner of the site is to make a new wiki and then I can help you to import the content from that site to the new one and make sure that vandals don't take it over. I've emailed the person who owns the Oppdis account on Wikia about this. I don't know if that's the same person though. Angela

- Hi, Angela - it's me, Daniel Benfield. Listen, I want to re-create the AzuSanity Wiki and import the content (had a lot of stuff on there), but I don't know what category it would go under. Further, I don't know whether to use "www." in the address, or how to go about taking care of a Wiki. PLEASE let me know. Thanks. Daniel Benfield 02:41, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Daniel. I've set up a copy of the wiki at Azusanity.wikia.com. I'll leave you a message on the wiki with more details. Angela

- Hi Daniel. I've set up a copy of the wiki at Azusanity.wikia.com. I'll leave you a message on the wiki with more details. Angela
- Thanks. One question - who's going to be the moderator/upkeeper on that page? I mean, I know next to nothing about keeping a Wiki safe. (Oh, and I suggest removing Daipenmon from the list of SysOps, since he vandalized several pages.) Daniel Benfield 04:37, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
- I made Daipenmon an admin as he was the one who asked for help when the original wiki was being damaged. I'll make you one there considering you contributed a lot of the content on the original wiki. Do you have any examples of pages he has vandalised recently? Angela

- Quick add-on -- is the new AzuSanity Wiki available for registered users only? If so, then great. Daniel Benfield 04:40, September 29, 2009 (UTC)
- The wiki doesn't need to be locked down to logged in users at this stage as there are lots of anti-spam and anti-vandalism tools that can be used if there's ever a problem. Angela

- My apologies -- he was not a vandalizer. He apparently was helping you move the pages.
Anyway, I do not seem to be listed as an admin anywhere on the site. Daniel Benfield 05:06, September 29, 2009 (UTC)All I did was add a bunch of info related to a few things I wrote. I may have contributed a lot of content, but that was only because I couldn't simplify the information and had my story go through a sizable revision. I honestly don't deserve to be an admin for (probably) doubling the size of the site and owning some of the largest pages on it. Daniel Benfield 05:35, September 29, 2009 (UTC)- Don't worry. Adminship just gives you access to a few extra tools which might enable you to clear up vandalism if it happens again. Angela

I managed to send an e-mail with the link to the Azusanity wiki, to an former admin who posted in that topic did mention that the Grim Azubastion forum might be reopened and not the original wiki.--Daipenmon 04:54, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
PROTECT THE AZUSANITY WIKI
I am being told by the trolls that took it down originally to remove the Wiki. Angela, you must protect it or they have threatened to take it down. Daniel Benfield 22:15, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
- They're asking for my password, Angela, so they can take it down from the inside. Daniel Benfield 22:19, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
- They're now threatening to sell my stories on ebay. Daniel Benfield 22:47, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
- Either I give them my login info, or its going on ebay. ANGELA, WHERE ARE YOU?! Daniel Benfield 22:52, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
PLEASE CONTACT SOME CYBER POLICE
And send them here -- http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=53c027be90707773b4398de31aa77d09&server=irc.netchan.org&channel=%23legi0n
It's all over the place -- but especially #GreenHillZone. Daniel Benfield 23:38, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
- No, and no. They're asking for my password NOW, Angela. I'M IN DEEP TROUBLE, AND I CAN'T GET OUT! Daniel Benfield 23:59, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
- I've changed it to something REALLY hard to crack, but they're still asking for it. What do I do now, give them the fake password? Daniel Benfield 00:03, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
- They're selling my stories as their own on Craigslist instead of Ebay, Angela. And no, I don't know how to complain to them.
If that isn't enough to convince you that we need to do something NOW... Daniel Benfield 00:11, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
- (fixed link above) This is happening on Mibbit, some site which I have no clue about. They're hounding me right now to surrender, and I can either do that or leave altogether from the site...which might make them angrier. Daniel Benfield 00:18, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
I left the site.
Well, I did it, Angela -- I left the live-chat site. I refused to surrender, and am choosing to ignore them.
The original owner of the AzuSanity Wiki (Collin, username Oppdis) is a troll now, and as such he deserves no privileges on the site that was once his.
Further, I suggest that you protect all pages on the AzuSanity Wiki so that NOBODY can edit them. That whole Wiki needs to be on total lockdown for a while.
I was not about to do something so sinister just so they could win. I'm not doing that. Daniel Benfield 00:51, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
(UPDATE: IT'S ALREADY STARTED, ANGELA -- the trolls are going through the AzuSanity Wiki. What have I done...?)
Relax if they come and vandalize the wiki, they will be blocked.--Daipenmon 13:28, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
- That's fine, but they stated both my home address and internet router info during the mess, which means that I and my family might be at a serious risk. Daniel Benfield 13:56, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
That's not good since the can send mail to your home address and can send viruses worms and trojans to your computer via your router, not to mention hack into it, just like Anon1Guardian hacked Oppdis' account on the latter's version of the wiki.--Daipenmon 17:35, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
- I've replied on User talk:Daniel Benfield. Angela

JbstormburstADV
Is this user named JbstormburstADV the real deal or just another troll account?--Daipenmon 02:35, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
- I can't tell as they haven't made any edits, but there's no reason to be suspicious of them at this stage. Angela

[edit] gedcom import and other toolbar
Hello Angela ! I'm an admin at Stamboom Wiki and I cooperate with Enno Borgsteede. We know that gedcom import is possible at Familypedia (genealogy.wiki) in the tool add image(Sannse ever mentioned this). Above that Familypedia has a very good toolbar for editing pages. Is it possible to install these 2 facilities also to Stamboom wikia ? Thanks in advance, kind regards, Fred Bergman --Bergsmit 18:41, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
- Ged files can now be uploaded on Stamboom. Is the toolbar you mean the new rich text editor? This isn't yet enabled for Dutch wikis, but will be fairly soon. Angela

[edit] New advertising
Hi! I'm admin on FR-Lostpedia, maybe you remember me… Anyway, for about two weeks, we have had a new advertising on top of our pages, which is not very pleasant. I would just like to know if we are obliged to keep it… Thank you in advance! Nico 16:20, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
- For a long while ads were removed from French wikis, but we have recently had to replace them. However, except for the one on the home page page, logged in users should not see any ads. If you are seeing any on articles, please let me know as those should not appear. The ads support the cost of hosting the wiki so it isn't permitted at this time to remove them. Angela
(talk) 04:40, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it is as you said for logged users. Thank you for your answer. Nico 13:47, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Sysop on Who's Your Favorite Character Wikia
Hey, there is this new Wikia: Who's your favorite character wiki, and it has me and this other guy, who made the site. He is new to wikis and I was wondering if I could become a Bureaucrat and Sysop so I can help that Wiki and get it going. I came to ask you because there isn't an admin on that site yet. --*ns0n *+k!n 00:42, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] How can I get sitenotice back?
I clicked "hide", and now it's gone. How can I get it back?
--Penko 12:27, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
- If you just want to read it again, you can go to the page called MediaWiki:Sitenotice on your wiki. I think that if you delete your cookies in your browser you will see it again. If you are an admin on the wiki, you can edit MediaWiki:Sitenotice id on your wiki and change the number to one higher than it is. This resets the sitenotice for everyone. Angela
(talk) 12:31, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
- I deleted cookies but it didn't help. I am admin in the wiki, but there isn't that MediaWiki:Sitenotice id page. Should I create it? --Penko 12:49, October 8, 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Is there an active admin on the Dexter Wikia? I've been editing it since earlier this year, and it's come under attack by a spammer... I was hoping an admin could step in and clean it up. [edit] New Wiki's to be closed?
Hi Angela, I was browsing Special:Newwikis as I do, I came across Someguy777 Wiki, I clicked it, to see the domain clubpenguinstinks. On further investigation it turns out the wiki is a attack on Disney. The language there is rather... emm.. well not wiki-nice. Just thought I would point it out :)
– Talk - My Wikia's list - New Wiki Watchlist 20:41, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
- Criticisms of companies or games could have the potential to be useful, so these are not prohibited (criticisms of people are a different matter). In this case it looks like someone just messing around, so I would suggest ignoring the wiki until the founder gets bored and then it can be cleaned up. There are always going to be some wikis with not very good content, but it's really just the harmful ones that violate our terms of use or the spam ones that we need to delete right away. If you do think this should be deleted, I recommend sending a note to special:contact about it. Angela

[edit] ...wut?
Hiya Angela =)
I'm scared to touch this myself, it feels like I must be missing out on something but... there's something wrong there imo. Visit The English language Wikia about Willorlando looks very wrong to me, but again, I'm convinced I must be missing something.
If you could change this or respond I'd be very grateful, thanks!
A F K When Needed 15:40, October 14, 2009 (UTC)
- The message just points to whatever the user called their wiki. This one is called Willorlando for some reason which is why it says that. Angela
(talk) 08:15, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
- That's not what I mean. The first quotes wiki was started by User:Willorlando. Then another Quotes wiki. Then a third one. All by different contributors.
- I understand the first one, but I don't understand why Quotes is redirected to Willorlando, and why the other two Quotes Wikis are on the mysterious Willorlando page. The second and third Wikis (in descending order) have absolutely no mention of Willorlando in either their site or url. But for some reason they're all there while Quotes redirects.
- It just looks... wrong...
A F K When Needed 21:52, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
- I see what you mean now. The reason is has happened is that the first one has the subdomain "quotes" so the bot adds a redirect from "quotes" to the sitename which is willorlando. Then for the next 2 that were made, when trying to put a page on the sitename page (actually sitename minus "wiki") it followed the redirect and ended up on willorlando. It's a slightly better situation than before when the bot used to try sticking a bunch of text at the end of a redirect page, but there will be odd cases where it doesn't make sense. Those can be manually edited and moved to sensible titles, though we do hope to work on improvements to this in the future and get some more automated listing of which wikis exist. Angela

[edit] E-mail address for Uberfuzzy
Hello, I am DarkLantern one of the administrators at One Wiki to Rule them All. Sorry to bother but I would like to know if Uberfuzzy has an e-mail address because it was not listed on his page here. [edit] COPPA Violations
Hey Angela, here I am to bug you again. There are two major COPPA violations on Brickipedia, and they have started a forum to stop the banning of two users. One says that he was joking when he admitted to being under 13. They have started a forum, and now User:Breadvil417 is recruiting meatpuppets to win the forum. This is getting crazy... and three users have sent messages through Special:Contact, and nothing has happened. I know that you guys are busy, but this is getting crazy. If you can help, thank you.--Kagimizu-Seeya 'round~ 00:15, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

- Actually, in accordance with COPPA, Wikia cannot accept user registration by users under the age of 13. COPPA does not affect anonymous editing as Wikia gathers no personal information from the person. Thus, anyone can create or edit content on Wikia, but due to the law of the United States of America anyone wishing to have an account must be above the age of 13 to hand out their personal information (email.) ~Joey~ ”^Talk^” 07:12, October 20, 2009 (UTC)

- We decided to recognize http://ikkjepedia.org/ as the new Norwegian uncyclopedia. Please make nn to point to it. --Leeyc0 13:53, November 2, 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but the users at w:c:ikkjepedia are strongly against this (and actually tried to block me when I added this link) so please do not use this link on Wikia. Angela

- Thank you. I'd like to ask one more question first. do you (or anyone) know why http://ikkjepedia.org/ is set up in parallel to w:c:ikkjepedia? --Leeyc0 14:33, November 3, 2009 (UTC)
- Our admin decided it is ok to link nn to w:c:ikkjepedia. Thank you. --Leeyc0 15:32, November 3, 2009 (UTC)
- How about the status of the nn interwiki link? --Leeyc0 06:51, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
- You can use no: instead of nn:. Angela

- Sorry, no: is Norweigian (Norsk) while nn: is New Norweigian (Nynorsk), they are two different languages. --Leeyc0 12:18, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
- I suggest that you talk to the people at w:c:ikkjepedia about that. As far as I'm aware, they are the Uncyclopedia for both versions of Norwegian. Angela

After I contacted with w:c:ikkjepedia, it should be no problem to link nn: to http://ikkjepedia.org/, since w:c:ikkjepedia is focused on nynorsk (or New Norwegian), and http://ikkjepedia.org/ is focused on bokmål (the other Norwegian). --Leeyc0 16:50, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
- I made a mistake. According to w:c:ikkjepedia, no: and nb: should be linked to ikkepedia.org and nn: should be linked to w:c:ikkjepedia. --Leeyc0 14:17, November 8, 2009 (UTC)

two admins have been inactive, please demote them now:

Hi,
How exactly is the top 10 created? By most Wiki's, most users, most active users? Mark (Talk) • (Contribs) 14:38, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Interlinking
Hi Could you interlink these wikis:
Linking nl.tolkien-online to it.lotr. link wikis
Linking nl.tolkien-online to cs.valinor. link wikis
Linking nl.tolkien-online to fi.tsh. link wikis
And could you add nl: to it. And could you do this also at [8]. There are no sysnops on that wikis and I would to interlink them.
Already Thanks--Thijs95 16:03, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
- Did the 3 you used the template for, but the thing about the "add nl: to it" I dont understand, nor about the terramedia. You can also make these requests on Wikia:Interwiki requests, where there are people that watch for these that do them quite often --Uberfuzzy

- Thanks, with "add nl: to it" I meant adding interlinks at the mainpage, because it is on the Itilians and Portugués-Brazilian wiki protected. That's why I can't add interlinks on it, and there are no sysnops more active :(
- I've added that. Angela

[edit] admins
can you add more very-active unmario users to sysops? --Tsepelcory
- No, please ask a bureaucrat on that wiki to do this. Angela

[edit] narod.ru @spam blacklist
Hi, Angela,
- Just wanted to inform about one change I've made in MW Spam-whitelist, partially overwritting blacklisting of narod.ru. I've looked at history of blacklist and noticed that you have been adding, then removing this item, but later it was reincluded by Mathx314 (seems to be inactive now). If for some reasons my overwriting is inadmissible - feel free to remove it or just drop me a note. Tia, ---Senvaikis 08:08, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. To be sure you'll find me - I'm Senvaikis@lyrics.wikia :)

[edit] New wikia
What happened if you made a new wikia? And how do you make those discussion pages?--Station7 15:15, November 3, 2009 (UTC)
- If you made a new wiki, you can now start adding content to it. What discussion pages do you mean? Maybe forums or blog articles? Angela
(talk) 22:44, November 3, 2009 (UTC)
No, just discussion pages. But I know how it works, but thanks. But could 1 men of woman make 2 wikia's? That someone just can more wikia's?--Station7 16:02, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
- People can make more that one wiki. However, it takes time to make a wiki successful, so making lots of them is not usually a good idea. Angela

[edit] Administrator
When is someone a administrator from a site? Because I'm mostly the whole week on internet, if you don't count vacation.--Station7 16:03, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
- The person who creates the wiki is an admin and they can make other people admins using the Special:Userrights page on the relevant wiki. If a wiki has no active admins, people that have made lots of edits on the wiki can ask to adopt it at Wikia:Adoption requests. Angela

[edit] Actual Question XD
Okay, now I actually have a question. Does Wikia feature project pages or no?-Neo (T) (C) (Home) 01:34, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
- What exactly do you mean? Each wiki has a Project: namespace. Angela
(talk) 01:36, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
- On toc.wikia.com, the project namespace is called Triforce of Courage Wiki. You can change the welcome message by editing w:c:toc:MediaWiki:Welcome-message-user (the welcome for logged in users) and w:c:toc:MediaWiki:Welcome-message-anon (for unregistered users). You can find other info and settings on this page. Angela

- I see. Yes, you can make a discussion page like that. Here's an example from Memory-Alpha before they decided to use wiki forums instead which are now at Memory Alpha:Ten Forward. You're welcome to use either a single page or a forum. You can find a forum for your wiki set up at w:c:toc:Forum:Index. Angela

[edit] Action Panel @ UnAnswers
Hiya Angela :)
Something a friend of mine said earlier today gave me an idea. As a Supervisor (I'm not a Manager) on WikiAnswers I've access to the Action Panel. On UnAnswers would it be at all possible for Bureaucrats to set access rights to the Action Panel?
I feel it's a tool that we might as well make use of, but currently nobody on the site has access to it. When I remembered that Managers can grant access to the Action Panel (by way of granting somebody Supervisor privileges) I wondered if it'd be at all possible to adapt the Bureaucrat rights on UnAnswers to grant it to users.
If it's not possible seperately, would we be able to add it as part of the RollBack or Administrator groups? Sorry for the long message.
A F K When Needed 13:45, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
- Action panel as it is at the moment isn't going to stay so it's not something we're putting work into right now. Instead, something similar will be built in as a feature for all users which will be controllable via preferences instead. Angela

[edit] Protection for General Hospital Wikia
On general-hospital.wikia.com, there is alot of vandalism going on through IPs. I would like to limit this so that only registered users can edit. Is it possible to do so? THANKS IN ADVANCE. --Carly Corinthos-Jacks 15:39, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
- If you're an admin, you can do that. Just click the Protect button at the top of the article. If you're not an admin, you can contact one so that he will do it. --Shadow Na'vi Talk My Workload 15:44, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
- No. He's not talking about one page he's talking about the Wiki.
- Also, if using that method then only semi-protect the page(s).
A F K When Needed 16:03, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
- Protecting all the pages of a wiki from anons goes against what the wikis are all about. You should protect high traffic pages, and just undo vandalism on the rest. Don't forget to block the vandals (after a warning)!
Ajraddatz Talk | Age of Empires Wiki92 Edits 20:58, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
- I suggest that you send example links that demonstrate the problem to special:contact so that staff can consider the different options available. Preventing unregistered edits might not be the best course of action. 22:55, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
