Hi! I need to ask another favour. Back when the original admin created the wiki at editthis.info, the name he chose the wiki to have was "timesplitterswiki". This therefore meant the TSWiki namespace was called "Timesplitterswiki:". And as of the move to Wikia it still uses it of course. [edit] Artemis Fowl Wikia Adminship Requests Project Page

Hello! Previously, I've contacted the Central Wiki regarding the fact that on the Artemis Fowl Wiki, there is only one currently active admin, User:C Teng (and I believe he needs help). I asked if it was possible for myself to become an admin of the site, as there were some pages that needed deleting that simply weren't getting addressed, but I'd said this on the Wiki Adoptions page. You all suggested I contact C Teng on their talk page: "If s/he doesn't respond, then you should talk to the rest of the community to decide how new admins should be chosen. Once the active editors have come to an agreement, we'll be happy to hand out the admin tools." I talked to C Teng, but he regretted saying that he didn't have that power. The only one who did was KFan II, creator of the wiki and now retired. We got together and created a community adminship requests page, a branch of Free Talk:Artemis Fowl:Free Talk/Adminship. It is going well (as well as a weak heart-beating wiki can). Two users (myself and McLovinn) have posted requests and each of us has two "yes" votes. Do you have a suggestion for how many "yes"s it will take to elect a new admin? Is there a better approach we can take? Any ideas? I was told to come to you for this. Although I am sure you get this sort of question all the time, but, I was hoping to become an admin for Sonic wikia. I think that I would be a perfect admin for this wikia, as I have been a fan of Sonic since I was 3 years-old and know everything about the video game series, along with the comic, anime, and cartoon shows. I also very decent grammar, and also a strong sense of discipline so when someone will vandalize a page I will be quick to take action. I am already doing that on Sonic wikia (stopping vandalism and noting the admin, always scanning over pages to make sure everything is in order etc.). Dear Angela Im From Memory Gamma the Star Trek Fanon Wiki and we need a little assistance the head admin. Captain Redding here along with myself wanted to include a series of new Editing button icons (as can be seen on top of all editing pages). These icons automatically adds either a character or an series infobox template to the article. Both of these icons can be seen in the Dark Horse comics wiki and we really would like for the icons to be added to our own wiki editing page. Since doing it by hand is far, far too much work for one person (given that there are often hundreds of pages in a category on the C&C Wiki), I'm asking, is it possible for the Wikia team to install a feature/bot/magical butan on the C&C Wiki to facilitate easy changing of categories? [edit] Constructed Mythology Wiki

Hello Angela, I have a question about the Constructed Mythology Wiki that is usually found at [1]. But, every time I try to visit the wiki, I am brought to the Constructed Fantasy Worlds Wiki. I think that this may have something to do with a proposal set for a change in the wiki's policy. No external images, that were not created by the author of an article, may be used. The proposal was to allow external images if they are properly sourced and licensed. The proposal passsed. The founder and only administrator/bureaucrat of the wiki said that the wiki is now pointless and he has not made an edit since this. I believe that he has something to do with this. Somehow, he has made it to where the wiki is not accessable by me on this account. I can visit there as an IP or on a different account. But, this account cannot visit the wiki. Can you help me? [edit] Unrestricted Bureaucrat on ConMyth

Hello. I am speaking on behalf of the users at Constructed Mythology (ConMyth) (not necessarily with their consent, but something has to be done). We have a bureaucrat on who is "running wild" and has been making edits without any sort of consent, including (but not limited to):

  • Threatening to leave the wiki over a small (and seemingly irrelevant) issue (see below).
  • Locking his talk page and replacing it with a message (again, see below).
  • Locking many of the pages he created (I think).
  • Banning a user from the wiki.

It started when this particular Bureaucrat (Mighty Erick) created the wiki, it seems. He had left other similar wikis because they were using external images (as in, images that aren't the user's creation), and he says he created ConMyth in order to not use external images -- at all. Move to recent events over this month, and a user (Mattken3) was posting external images (of relevance, too). Once Mighty Erick found out about this, he suggested that he could make images that would replace Mattken3's images. Mattken3 didn't like this idea, and respectfully began a debate as to why he should be allowed to use external images. Other users got into the debate as well (including myself), and we put it to a vote as to whether we should include external images. When the vote was announced, though, Mighty Erick threatened to leave the wiki and make another one - for the same purpose. We continued to go about our business, and eventually, the vote (which still hasn't ended, it seems) was more in the favor of Mattken3 (please note that past this is complete speculation). Mighty Erick seems to be angry at this point, and locked his talk page and many pages he created. We have no way to contact him at this point, except for a user-made Talk page for him. On a final note, he seems to have banned Mattken3 from the wiki, because Mattken3 says he gets redirected to another one of Mighty Erick's wikis, and can only use his IP address to edit pages, at this point.

I'm sorry for the massive wall of text above; I felt I needed to explain the situation. My point is, will you (or one of Wikia's admins) help with the situation? I think we either need to find a way to contact Mighty Erick (or simply get his attention drawn to the wiki), or remove his Bureaucrat rights. I personally don't want him so angry he leaves for sure, because he seems to be the backbone that holds the wiki together, so the latter might be a last resort.

I should like to note that i support both Mattkenn3 and Sir Trekie on this topic. As the second most active and with the most pages (Besides Erick) i feel that each and every user on Conmyth should be able to have a voice and and at least some say on the way the wiki is run. At this time Erick has taken things too far and i feel something (not too drastic) should be done. While Erick is usually a very good administrator and artist in Paint he has proven himself to be remarkable stubborn and will often leave a wiki and make another just because of a small issue. So anyway, i hope something can be done and that Erick stays on Conmyth as he holds us all together.

On this page, the same admin has found a way to redirect certain users and pages to different wikis, making it impossible for the community to work effectively. So, I ask that you could delete this page to stop its effects, block this admin, and make either myself or Flamefang an administrator of the wiki to fix what Erick has done to our wiki. Hi Angela, we have a software bug in the wikia system which shows up when the text for a bullet or numbered line (* or #) is more than 1 line long. The bug puts the bullet in the middle of the line rather than at the beginning, making bullited paragraphs unreadable. Didn't do that before. Is there a fix for this? Hey, thanks for the help with moving back (or if it wasn't you, thanks for helping run wikia then :D). There is one other thing that needs doing, namely, The Audiosurf Wiki requires someone active who can give users sysop status, so we don't have to bug one of you every time. I haven't been able to figure out how to do it as a sysop, so either making me a bureaucrat, making Xairu a bureaucrat (he really does support the wiki more), or telling me how I change that as a sysop(only if possible) would be very helpful. Users can change skin in their own preferences, and you can make changes to the color and design of the skin for all users, but the default skin does need to stay as monaco. See Help:Customizing Monaco to find out how you can make improvements to monaco. Changing to an old skin could have a worse effect on attracting people to your wiki as it would be harder to find and navigate, but look at Help:Attracting Contributors to find out some things that can have a positive effect. From searching the forums, I've seen that you're the only one who can change usernames and preserve the contribs. Could you change my username to Flaming? It is a registered account, but it has 0 edits across any wikis. I changed my Wikipedia username from Flaminglawyer to Flaming last summer, so I'd like to have Flaming here for consistency reasons. I've got sysop/crat access on a couple wikis and 500 edits across a couple Wikia sites, so the "create a new account" option doesn't really work out very well. Hi Angela,

I just learned by a sitenotice on GuildWiki the potential move of PvX wiki to Wikia. I'm a bit impressed to see their wiki extension to show builds is already set up on the demo site. I though this extension that need frequent updating would have asked Wikia staff to do too much work (they dont need that).

So, i'm here to ask if my thoughs were trues or what. If this extension isn't demanding as much work that i was thinking, could fr.guildwars get the french version of it ? Unlike GuildWiki, fr.guildwars has a build section. But there's not a lot of content because doing build pages are not so easy for a regular wiki user. Having the french version of the wiki extension could simplify things a lot.

But dont hesitate to tell me if this wouldn't be possible. I'm not sure of the statute of the french version of the extension. But i know that http://guildwiki.fr is using it.

We need to see first how much time it's going to take up for the English wiki. What I'm hoping is that we can find a way to allow the community to do the updates instead of them having to be done on the server. Now that PvX is moving to Wikia and a lot of name changing is going on for that I wanted to ask if it would be possible to get my name changed to Viruzzz (I wasn't around when guildwiki moved sadly, so I didn't have a chance to request it back then). Hi Angela,

There is no clear link on the Wikia splash page (the page you get to when you search for wikia.com) leading to the actual wiki (here).

The new edit screen keeps reloading itself, first with a two-inch edit summary textbox, then a 4-inch one, then a 6-inch, and each time the size of the edit window shrinks. It seems that once I load the later versions of the edit box, it becomes harder to successfully save my edits.

It's been brought up in off wiki discussion that we may need to enlist an active helper in our wiki to help monitor as we have been the target of multiple vandal bots that avoid the IP Range Block via Proxy Changes.... as they create an account, we cannot do an immediate IP Range Block and result to staff help for Checkuser. A helper is more like a cross-wiki admin so they can't help anymore than RuneScape's own admins can. As the vandal is using proxies, checkuser does not help at all because they change IP every time rather than the normal situation of using their real range of IPs. We are exploring new blocking options, but for now, the most powerful tool we have for handling this sort of situation is ProtectSite which is already enabled on RuneScape and can be used by the admins there. Several users, including myself have found that we cannot rate builds anymore due to the name change from (i use my name as example) Ikimono to PVX-Ikimono. This change has kept the profile in essence the same, but has causes some side effects. Yes, it's up to you and any other editors on that wiki to remove any content that is not suitable - either things that you think are illegal, or anything that you would just rather not have there. Link spam from other sites is really something to watch out for - you need to think to think about whether the person is trying to improve your wiki, or whether they just want more links to their own website. Hi Angela,

I read over on a talk page, then later joined in a "discussion", that users are getting offended because another user had a blurb in their signature about their beliefs, and was getting threats to be banned from Wikia if he does not remove it. I say that "offended" is getting exagerrated, "spam" might cover it, but I just wanted to know if there was anything that you could do to help sort this out, and/or if there was a Wikia rule saying that expressing religions anywhere (for that matter) was considered as offensive content. I have a few other Christian wikian friends, and I just want to know so I can show them about this so they won't do it, either.

There's no Wikia-wide rule for this, and what other users think is appropriate varies considerable depending on where it's done. Saying something in a signature is not the same as writing it on your userpage or in a userbox or writing an article about that on a relevant wiki. I suggest you talk to the people concerned if it is important to you. I hope you will be able to come to a consensus on what's good to have in a signature. Hey, I went to check my edit count on the Club Penguin Wiki a minute ago, and I had about 4,300 or something like that, and then I find out I only have 3,802! I've gone down about 600 edits! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? -Metalmanager

It could be caused by a couple of things. One is that a lot of deletions are happening. Another is that people are moving pages into the "Archive:" namespace. Anything in that namespace does not count towards your edit count -- that can be changed if that's what the community wants, and it means those pages will also show up in the default search as well.
Thanks! I've figured out that when I deleted my user page, it took away all the user page edits I did, but kept subpage edits in User category, and I had alot of user edits and trying to not have more than main, and they were over 1,000! So, I actually did myself quite a favour. Anyway, thanks for the help! -Metalmanager

I've come across something similar, but different. This page was simply nonsense when I found it, and now it can't be deleted because there is no admin around to do the honors. For now, only Wikia staff and Helpers can delete pages on all wikis. Most of the newer English-language wikis will have a delete template, so you can replace the page's content with {{delete}}. This means other won't see the content and if the wiki later gets admins, they can easily find those pages that need deleting. If it's important to delete it quicker, then you can drop a note to staff using special:contact. You could also check the wiki's Special:ListUsers to see how long it is since the admins last logged in. If it's not too long, you could try emailing them using the special:emailuser link on their user page, and see if they'll come back and deal with it. Angela@Wikia (talk) 16:49, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

It's becoming more common that multiple wikis on the same topic are started. Wikifrim was meant to be a wiki for just one guild within the game whereas fr.guildwars is about the whole game, so this is quite common. For example, we also have the main WoWWiki: but also different wikis for different WoW servers such as EarthenringEU. Do you know how many members a Guild Wars guild can contain ? Theres a limit of 100 players per guild and 10 guilds per alliance.
I dont disagree with them having their own space but why are they in need of duplicating all 1235 skills pages, all boss pages and many things like that ? Why arent they just use interwikis links like PvX is doing ? Yes, i know PvX did not started here. But what if one day someone would request an english wiki and start duplicating GuildWiki content (but under GFDL instead of CC) ? I dont think GuildWikian would see that with a smile.
Lastly, fr.guildwars already have space of all guilds in GuildWars to make a page and all.
That resquest should not have been accepted not only because of all this but also because fr.guildwars has only 3 regular users (me included) and some of what they have done on their wiki could have been welcomed on fr.guildwars.
But now, the only things that can happen is competition.
Yes, i contacted the bureacrate of Wikifrim saying their duplication of content was just plain silly. He replied that i'm fascist and that they can do whatever they please since their request was accepted.
But since when Wikia changed the rule that was saying « no private wikis ». Because, even though they dont keep anyone from contributing (yet - as far as i know), they are not encouraging outsiders to contribute to their « space ».
But, if Wikia say it ok to let them be, i'll have no choice than forget about them.

I realise it can be annoying to have another wiki which seems to be competing, but there usually is room for other approaches and in many ways, it's better than people do that here instead of on another site. In the same way that there is more than one website on each topic, it's becoming more usual to also expect more than one wiki on a topic, so we are being more open to our approach of creating wikis. If the new one is successful then it benefits everyone as the content is available for everyone interested in that topic to read. You see, on the Club Penguin Fanon Wiki I have recently quit, and wanted to delete my articles. However, certain users there keep restoring them.

I'm aware that Wikia is under GFDL copyright, and I believe it is stated that if you are the owner of content that is being used on Wikia without your permission, then you may request the page be immediately removed from Wikia. Since users keep restoring my articles without my permission, I think it is fair that I, the owner of such articles, request for them to be permanently deleted.

Oh hay Angela. I'm TehBenshiGuy, a sysop from the Madness Combat wikia. It is coming along really well, and we're close to reaching 100 articles. The main problem we have is IPs, a lot of them make annoying edits, while some make fantastic. What we need to do is lock it so only registered users can edit, however I'm still new at this sysop thing and don't know how to. =( TehBenshiGuy~talk

Hello! I'm from EVCHK(香港網絡大典).

We have some EVCHK admins who aren't online and/or didn't utilize their admin rights for a long time. In view of that, those admins are to be desyopped.

I've just started answering questions on Wikianswers and the first 2 questions that I saw were "What is the max hit of a green dragon?" and ""treasure" in native language?" There's no category since it's usually easier to rename a question than to add a category. It's unlikely the asker will come back and clarify what they meant, so you just need to make a guess and turn the question into something that can be answered. If it's not possible to rephrase it or answer it, you can add a {{delete}} tag. One way to find what someone meant is to click on their username or IP and find out what else they have asked. In the examples you give, the green dragon asker had also asked one about RuneScape and the native language one had asked a second question instead of rephrasing his first (wikianswers:What is the word "treasure" in the native American language?) When a new wiki is created, the "administrators" page that is automatically created still says that bureaucrats "are not currently able to remove admin access from any user; please contact one of the community team if you need that done." (For example, on the Firefox Wiki, which I created earlier this week). Perhaps this should be changed as bureaucrats can now remove sysop rights from users. Thanks. Hi Angela.
I'm an admin at the HDM Wikia, which has recently been somewhat lacking in activity. I've come across a few other Wikis dealing with the His Dark Materials trilogy, and was wondering about the possibility of a merge with these sites:

  • BridgeToTheStars.net - Almost completely inactive, with no contributions this year. The last edit was vandalism, which hasn't yet been reverted.
  • Srafopedia - Has currently active admins, but the site seems to have been slowly drowning in automated spam attacks for some time. Also, an interesting and unique title using the name of an important element from the series.

Regardless of their current levels of activity, both of these Wikis have some very good information, but they also seem to be struggling. I think we would all benefit if they were offered the opportunity to bring their content across to Wikia. Many thanks. --Adam (talk) 13:45, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't see why not. Both wikis are run by large and active HDM fansites, whose webmasters should be readily contactable:
Mergers are always welcome. Neither wiki has yet licensed their content under the GFDL which adds a complication but doesn't make it impossible. I think what hdm.wikia needs most is more editors. Looking at these two wikis, there aren't very many people involved, so it may be worth talking directly to the few people that are editing here and see if they would like to join you on Wikia. If they do, then I'm always available to help with importing content. Do you find that either of these wikis are showing up in search results when you search google for things related to your wiki? Thanks for your quick reply Angela. I have to confess, that after doing some more research I feel slightly embarrassed at my naively over-simplified suggestion. Srafopedia is in a far more "complete" state than I'd judged by my initial cursory assessment, with many times more articles than hdm.wikia. Also, their articles appear among the top ranked Google search results for many series-related search terms. Based on this, I can't help but feel that they may view the benefits of any potential merger as somewhat one-sided.
I also completely agree with your view that hdm.wikia is lacking in editors; my hope was that a merge would drive increased contribution, whereas I now see that it should be the other way around if anything. I suspect that Srafopedia's lower activity levels may be due to editors viewing the content as nearing completion, given the somewhat finite and contained nature of the subject matter. At my suggestion, they have blocked IP edits, greatly limiting the danger of further vandalism. I'll let you know of any notable developments which would benefit from your involvement. It's ok to have 2 accounts (as long as you're not misusing them to vote twice or anything). What I could do though if you're sure you never want to use the name Vampyrum Spectrum08 again is to disable that account. That is not reversible though, so let me know if it's what you want. Hello. Is it an article that you want to change or a user's name? For changing the title of a page, see Help:Moving pages. Hello Angela. I originally requested this attention from JSharp, but recently discovered he is not longer active as a staff member? Anywho, as you have dealt with this in the past I felt I shall ask you. At RuneScape Wiki we strongly disapprove of gold-selling or anything as such that violates the rules of our wiki or Jagex (the owners of RuneScape). As this is a violation of fansite mutuality with RuneScape it seems redundant to strongly oppose these sites yet often enough have gold-selling advertisements. A discussion has come up here that I would really love to see your opinion. I think that could look a bit ugly and end up taking up every more space that the ad itself. All ads are clearly marked as ads and hopefully most people understand that these are not endorsements. On some wiki's such as many Fan Fictions, Your Story and RS players it would be useful to have a new level of protection, where only the creator and admins could edit. it. Is vandalism the problem here? If so, there are probably better ways of dealing with that. If the issue is more than people don't want their own works being edited, then it seems to go against the purpose of a wiki, but you may be able to get this effect using social rather than technical means. For example, by placing a template that others make only minor edits to the page (correcting spelling, etc) and to make a separate page if they want to make a major change. The one Spongebobrocks09 is talking about is the User Ben 100022. Now, he has been abusing his powers and the Weird World Wiki. He blocks Users for no reason. Whhen Users report him, he gets rid of the edit and protects the page! Plus, he decided that the Club Penguin Fanon Wiki was the Weird World Wiki's enemy. On the Club Penguin Wiki, he insults Users.
