[edit] Mirroring/forking/moving AutoCAD to AUGI (self=hosting)

Angela, I'd like to get a database dump of the AutoCAD Wiki. AutoCAD User Group International has agreed to host it. Of course Wikia can continue to keep it running, but I believe it will succeed better with the professionalism of a self-hosted mediawiki wiki at AUGI. Only time will tell. What do I need to do to get the dump? Can somebody make it and provide me the URL? Or is there a built in way to generate it? Thanks for everything. Tom Haws 18:08, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom. Would you like some help to make the wiki at Wikia more professional looking rather than trying to set up on your own? A new skin and logo would be a great place to start. If you have a look at wikis like Marvel or Green, you'll see there's lots that can be done in terms of customization of the design. However, if you decide to make a copy, the database is always available at the site linked from database download. Have you considered using the spotlight feature to promote the wiki? Thanks for your reply. Bling is not the problem. The problem, as you surmised, is the glamour ads. I thought it was just me, but when I sent a workmate to the site, he commented that the ads were too much. Wikia allows people to reflect many different points of view. If you can think of a way to change the wording in a way that still reflects the atheist point of view, then you could suggest that on the talk page, but it may be better for you to write from your own point of view on one of the other wikis (perhaps the christianity wiki). You see, he wants TurtleShroom's powers stripped TurtleShroom, a Beurucrat on this Wiki, recently IP, blocked my unreasonably. He already had a history of mild discrimination against me, and I'm afraid I was very angry with him. I have now apologised for my unkind remarks, and hope he will forgive me.. The person I am talking about, AG is nothing but a hypocrite, insulter, and naggerNice. Friendly. I said he disliked me. Believe me though, it goes deeper than that.. He thinks some bureaucrats are bullies, when they are notAgain, the TurtleShroom thing.. He screwed up the site policies for a while until a bureaucrat stepped inAs I said, TurtleShroom is a beurucrat, although I believe the one he is reffering to is himself. However, 'Screwed up the site policies'? Hardly.. He block evadesI edited on an alternate account to protest my innocense, and after a few more alternate accounts (they're very handy with the Ban Button) I stopped doing so. I would have used my talk page, but they had not left me the privelege to do so. That perticuler dispute is being resolved internally, however. Suffice to say I have stopped completely.. He is a hypocrite, as he wanted the RV clan to respect others, but he did not respect othersWhen? I only remember giving out to them for uploading offensive pictures!. The RV Clan, a bunch of users, has a you give respect, we give respect back policyThat was the general reason given for the offensive pictures.. He is saying he represents the entire wiki, when he is hated by mostI said that once, I was misenterperted, and I apologised..

I've found a very interesting wiki, which is userpedia.wikia.com and I really would like to adopt it since the sysops left annd they locked the wiki. I can work hard on it if you unlock, Apparently they posted a notice where they claim the server has changed or something, I checked the new one but I found it to have a lame skin and to be too slow and hard to edit. If you can unlock I'd be grateful.

Hello. On Fanon Wiki, there are two administrators, however both of them are inactive. As a rather large contributor to the Star Wars Fanon Wiki (2,000+ edits) I would like to become as active on the Fanon Wiki as well. Therefore, since there are just two administrators whom are both inactive, is it possible I could be granted administrator/bureaucrats rights on the Fanon Wiki? Hello. It's easy to create an IRC channel. Basically, just type /join #channel once you're on IRC (swapping channel for the channel name you want to create). If you want that added to the IRC gateway, please send the channel name via special:contact. Angela@Wikia (talk) 04:33, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

You cannot access an IRC channel such as the one you are trying to create while using the Wikia gateway (unless it is already on the access list). The reason is that a new version of the game is released every year, so it would be outdated very, very soon as Rugby 09 will be released in my country (New Zealand) very shortly and it probably already released in other countries. Template:Signatures/Lvl 3 skils3 06:06, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

  1. Next year, a lot of data would be invalid and the URL would have to be updated again.

There's a vandalizm problem in Shadowrun wikia. An anonymous IP and the User:RogueeZ just emptied the Main Page and the "Community Portal", replacing the content by a defect link to an external page. I reverted their edits, but can you block them? I ask you, because I think, you are an admin.

The top users issue is a known problem we've been working on for a while.
The insernusername thing looks like a javascript trick some wikis use to insert the current user's name. You will need to go to the wiki it originally came from and ask their admins what javascript code you need to copy to make it work at your wikia. --Uberfuzzy@Wikia 04:57, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Dear Angela, I have changed the colours of the infobox template on Scarshield Legion Wiki, to make the colours more fitting to the visual style of the wiki. However, the colours of the infobox on specific pages is only changed after I edit the page, until that, the old infobox colours remain. It was not being used for content related to health. Instead, someone had tried to turn it into something which violated Wikia:Terms of use. I've been having this template problem with the 'roundborder collapsible collapsed' class. While it should collapse/close all of the bars in the template, they're open, but the [hide/show] button still says [show]. here's the template.

Dear Angela while the new text editor was great, however what ive seen today on the many wikis I work on is not Wikias rich text editor. It appears to be only a copy of PB Wikis text editor which has now made any further editing of any of my current projects near impossible. Not only does not the editor look like the previous rich text editor or the editor indicated in the inages for the Help:Rich Text Editor section but it appears to be replaced by another editor entirely. On the wiki I created Battlestar Galactica Fanon Wiki I had to revert the editor back to its original version. If you can provide any help it would be much appriciated. Contact me soon on this. An adminitrator told me that the Traditional Chinese Uncyclopedia is already unblocked in mainland China, and he believes that it should be possible to negotiate with the Chinese government to unblock zh.uncyclopedia.wikia.com too, since the nature of the two websites are similar.

We have some difficulties to find someone to test. The ones that can see your messages would mean that they are either NOT blocked or they have some methods to override the block. (I come from Hong Kong, the other adminstrator come from Taiwan.) That is, it is something like chicken and egg problem. As far as we know, zh.uncyclopedia is still being blocked in mainland China. There is a bureaucrat that has vandalized our wiki and that has blocked several innocent people... Our wiki is about a fictional republic called Libertas He nearly caused a war between users by separating a part of the country. And nobody could stop him because of his admin rights. He has already taken somebody's admin rights away (of User:TahR78) without a reason. He starts blackmailing me, the chosen president of the republic, that he'll take my rights too if I don't obey. He already said that he wants to make other users, friends of his, admins. I would like to ask you if you want to help us.

It's about the bureaucrat User:Ooswesthoesbes that is able to cause an online war on this wiki, that will cause another inactive wiki. There have been many fights this month so I would please ask you if you could prevent this situation by taking his admin rights. "This user has already caused many fights. When he is getting sick of it, he autoblocks himself and says he'll leave. This happened for already 14' (see log/block) times.

There are 6 other bureaucrats, so have you considered having a community discussion about the problems and trying to resolve them? Rufus Shinra4245 has been there quite recently. Since he's the one who made you an admin, I don't think you need to be worried about him banning you. Cubixlolz is the founder of that wiki. Yeah but he only made me an admin because you guys accidently made him one, I was on his Rufus Shinra's because he is my brother, but he knows nothing of the game that is why when you look at edits the only thing he has done is basically revert pages after we stopped a vandal. So i may not be able to do anything about Cubixlolz, but i know Rufus doesnt even deserve admin and he is constantly fighting with me, but besides that he hasnt helped at all with contribs or nothing and Cubixlolz has been inactive fir many months now i dont know how to get ahold of him. It seems to me that Familypedia has a different situation than Wikipedia in regards to the jimbo policy on for hire writers. This is not yet an issue at genealogy wikia, and it was a question from a contributor that got me thinking about it. Do we have a policy on this sort of thing? If so then Robin and I need to know about it, because we do have paid genealogists who might find it financially interesting to create articles on our wikia for clients. Although I don't anticipate I will ever have any financial interests in genealogy/ family history, I personally think it is something familypedia should allow and even encourage as a mechanism of getting greater traction. OTOH it would seem entirely proper for there to be restrictions regarding admins or bureaucrats. -~ Phlox

There's no overall Wikia policy on this. It's something each community can decide for themselves. I don't expect that paid writers on a wiki like Familypedia would cause the same concerns as it does when people are paid to edit something that's aiming to be a neutral encyclopedia. I'm trying to port a template, well, two really, from one wiki to another. From starwars.wikia.com to elderscrolls.wikia.com. The original templates are here and here. They make little icons appear in the corner to indicate which era the article is from. I've ported them to elderscrolls wiki here and here. When I put the template on a page it doesn't display the icon though. Now I've ported many of the templates over and the only ones that seem to have trouble working is the ones involving things appearing in the top corner of pages. Dear Angela, On Scarshield Legion Wiki I have created some special infoboxes, such as Person infobox, Place infobox or Organization infobox. Until today, the image width in these infoboxes was set to an automatic 250px. But I realized that due to the different shapes of the images, the standard 250px is sometimes not suitable, so on the Person infobox, I changed it to a variable called "width". What I would like to ask is the following: how can I set that if no value is set for the variable, the image automatically becomes 250px wide? Thank you in advance, Snicka 18:32, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

However, I can't figure out how to make the mini-logo that appears on the tab and the searchbar in Internet Explorer. That's a favicon. You can change it by uploading an image called favicon.ico. If you don't have software that can save an ico file, then chami.com is a useful site which can convert any image into a favicon. Angela@Wikia (talk) 18:21, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

He created his own wiki with his "brothers" called Sins wiki and uses it to punish his enemies by banning them and bulling them. I am one of the victoms of his crime, and here to ask of you to put a stop to it. I am a rollback of the Sims wiki, admin of the Sims Fanon and LightVDarkness wikis, and a regular contributer to the Final Fantasy wiki. I have contated wikia about this, and a friend and I have set up a trap, but it failed because he found out. You are our last hope because he is an evil genious here. (Sorry, I am only 15 you know). Dear Angela, our administrator discovered that although the domain uncyclopedia.tw (the Traditional Chinese Uncyclopedia) is blocked in mainland China, the domain zh.uncyclopedia.info is not blocked (which is just another domain name for uncyclopedia.tw). May you adjust the interwiki zh-tw to point to zh.uncyclopedia.info instead of uncyclopedia.tw as a workaround for the blockage?

There's nothing you need to do to put a wiki up for adoption. Anyone can start editing a wiki and later ask to adopt it if there are no active bureuacrats. There appears to be several languages uncreated for different languages (examples are fa, it, pl, etc) which create a problem in the copyright notice on those wikis "All contributions to Nonciclopedia are considered to be released under the CC-BY-SA (see [[[Template fetch failed for http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Wikia:Licensing?action=raw]]] for details).". Is this true ? I mean, the guy is saying that he has Wikia's permission to not abide to the central policy over protection. I think Wikia shouldn't give that kind of permission. On my part, i always hate when they comme to the central wikia forums asking for help with their main page but we can't do anything because it's protected. Next time i could just not care to help someone who protected the main page almost as soon as the wiki was created without any other good reason that main pages should always be protected. The founder is in contact with Jimmy about it so it is a special case. As Wikia starts hosting more and more wikis, there will be exceptions to the normal rules. I have asked other users, they have similar results.

For example: The URL link of Special:Preferences displayed in pages is end with "Special:%E5%8F%82%E6%95%B0%E8%AE%BE%E7%BD%AE", decode as "Special:参数 设置", these are simplified Chinese characters.

It is not obvious issue, due to IE7 (or 8?) doesn't decode the URL, but Firefox could. However, it is not convenient for us input inner wiki links with simplified Chinese. Also, we prefer using English for these system links. I hope that the technical staff could fix this issue.

I have found that when I try to link to three of the FFWiki wikis through interwikilinking, it won't work. PT, IT, and EO seem to not be connected to the other ten wikis. They all use the same URL style, with it definitely reading "finalfantasy", but they just won't work. So typing [[pt:]] won't add the link to the Portuguese homepage, and typing [[en:]] on the Portuguese wiki won't take you to the English homepage. And these three wikis aren't in a separate chain either, they're standalone wikis. Why is it broken? Can you fix that? I Lion Heart I 20:13, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Angela, could it be possible for more than one user to become an administrator if there are hardly any other user, let alone administrator, active on the wiki (I am merely curious as to how many administrators can be active on one wiki, as some of the wikis I have been on have had many, over twenty in some)? What is the maximum number of administrators a wiki can have? Also, please, when might the adoption requests be assessed? Is the period of time usually within a month, roughly? My thanks. Me again. This is unfair since I now have seven enemies: Andrewrox (curently worst), Mark Everest, 1stclasswarrior, Wyvern777, ScatheMote, Jwest72 and the admin of the Kingdom Hearts wiki (Yowuza and Dabtowner are neutral). I have autisom, and they want me pernermently banned from wikia and my wiki (LightVDarkness Wiki) deleted. I have been in anger problems in most of the wikis I have been in (even in the Sims wiki over the Admin deleting what I wrote in some pages, an arguement with a fellow person and the battle with Andrewrox), but I am not blocked there, but I am in four wikis now (Pokemon wiki for standing up for somebody, Animal Crossing wiki in a small arguement with Yowuza, Kingdom Hearts wiki over complaning about everyone being my enemy, and the Final Fantasy wiki since they are a sister wiki with the KH wiki). I just don't want to be banned from any other wikis, and now I can no longer visit the FF wiki. I don't think autistic people should be on wikia at all. This might sound like an odd request, and I understand if it isn't fulfilled, but I would like to request adminship of the Polish FFWiki. I'm not a SysOp of any current Final Fantasy wiki in any language, nor do I speak a word of Polish; which is why it must seem odd. I am however interwikilinking between all the languages, and at the same time, cleaning up the wiki.

Currently, there's no administration going on there. I know I can't add content, but I know how to manage a wiki. Also being a SysOp there will be encouragement for me to fix up the wiki, even if it is just with images. I have GoogleTranslate which helps me understand what everything is. Hi Angela, On my home wiki, the Club Penguin Wiki, we all tend to want different logos, so it would be really great if you could make it so there would be a default logo, but editor's can replace it with an image that fits, (135 x 155px?), via their preferences. Please consider this!
