[edit] stats

the stats often fail ... or are not up to date ...
or gathering data only a few days a month.
right now this page is NOT stats for the peace wiki:
http://peace.wikicities.com/webalizer/usage_200505.html
-ts-(talk)

Those like the stats that I have been getting with the Calgary May Webalizer stats. I have logged it in Bugzilla. -- JamesTeterenko 05:00, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
I'd recommend using the Wikistats rather than Special:Statistics or the Webalizer ones. Angela (talk) 01:35, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
The Webalizer has stats that Wikistats doesn't.
They are good for seeing how individual pages are doing ...
plus some user stats.
They are there ... but not reflecting the proper group.-ts-(talk)----
I definitely prefer the webalizer stats to the Wikistats (when they are working). It is the only insight I get into how others use the site. -- JamesTeterenko 05:00, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Templates and images from Commons.wikimedia

3 questions:

  1. is it possible to use the templates 'GFDL' and 'Insignia2' from Commons.wikipedia?
  2. is it possible to use images uploaded in Commons?
  3. is it possible to link pages of a national wikipedia (for me it.wiki)?

Thank you Massimop 21:32, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] whitewolf.wikicities.com

Hi Ian. Please check the terms of use again since I think there has been a misunderstanding. All content on every Wikicity needs to be available under the GFDL, not a CC licence. Please fix the pages which claim the wiki is under a CC license and delete any edits where users have not agreed to release their text under the GFDL. If there are any problems with this, please let me know. Thanks.

Hey, Angela. Sorry for any problem I may have inadvertently caused. Because of the vast amount of text involved, I've largely been copying help files mostly unaltered from memory-alpha.org. I'll happily alter any related files, and apologize again for an unintentional difficulty I may have caused. IanWatson 00:58, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WhiteWolf Spam

Hey, Angela. Just got back from work, and saw all the spam edits done on the White Wolf Wiki. Thanks for cleaning 'em all up! IanWatson 22:37, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lucid Wikicities copyright

Heys, sorry about that. I saw no license metadata so I felt I had to write something.

I don't think anybody would object to the GFDL license. Is it really necessary to remove their content?

Specifically, lucid:User:R3m0t and lucid:User:IDX would obviously immediately agree. lucid:User:Quippo knows a bit about free licenses and I can contact her if I must. lucid:User:212.219.116.250 is the anonymous IP of IDX. lucid:User:83.177.144.10 is the anonymous IP of pasQuale. I don't think anybody else has written much. lucid:User:69.238.170.74 perhaps. r3m0t 09:54, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

I think it would be best to contact them just to make sure the content is cleanly licensed under the GFDL. Angela (talk) 03:36, 24 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pages Disappearing

For whatever reason, both the Community Portal and Town Hall (Village Pump equivalent) of dnd: are disappearing. Are you moving the wiki right now, or is something very wrong happening? Mathx314(talk)(email) 18:46, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

It's fixed temporarily and reported at bug:126. Angela (talk) 22:01, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Now that the wiki has been moved, the dnd: interwiki no longer works. Might we be able to set up a polaqu: interwiki? Mathx314(talk)(email) 01:40, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
Done. polaqu: will work now. Angela (talk) 04:35, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Two things about althist

First of all, spam: [1]. --millosh (talk) 23:42, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

Second, please look at the Main Page discussion about separating althist languages. --millosh (talk) 23:42, 29 May 2005 (UTC) I asked for new Wikicity. --millosh (talk) 18:32, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

I'll added qx5\.net to the Spam Blacklist and I'll make the new wiki today. Angela (talk) 07:38, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
Great and thanks :) --millosh (talk) 08:49, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the help!

Thank you for the help cleaning up the spam edits on the Concord wiki. I've had Internet problems over the last couple of weeks, so I hadn't even seen them. Though, since there's only a couple of users right now, I would've spotted them soon enough, but thanks. Thanks also for filling in the Copyrights page, one of many administrivial things I kept meaning to get around to. Alfvaen 03:52, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

I'm glad I could help. :) If you see any more spam, just list it at Talk:Spam Blacklist and it can be blocked. Angela (talk) 07:38, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You

Thanks for trusting me with administrative rights! I'll try to use them for good.  :-) Let me know if there are any specific activities where you'd like help in addition to the general responsibilities. --CocoaZen 00:45, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Memory Alpha Dutch Admin

Hey Angela, I tried to make a new admin on MA Dutch, ut I'm having some problems. Perhaps I'm no longer a bureacrat there. Anyway, could you make the User Q an admin? I need to have someone back me up there, because I don't always keep track and the occasional vandal gets away. Thanks. -- Redge | Talk 11:46, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] has my application failed or what?

hi. i applied for a new wiki on economics couple of weeks ago and i havent heard anything back from wikicities about it. what happened was i rejected?! i dont see my wiki proposal being in the reject list. did i do something wrong?--GregLoutsenko 22:28, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay. A problem with the creation script has meant new wikis couldn't be created since our recent move. I will try this again today and let you know when it is made. Angela (talk) 01:41, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] links to bg.wiki

Hi Angela. Is there a way to create links to bulgarian wikipedia (other than creating external links)? I mean, with wikipedia: the links are redirected to en:, is there a way or a chance another interwiki to be created, bgwikipedia:, bgwiki: or something like that? This will be very useful for ancientworld (for now) and every other bulgarian wikicity (in the future). Regards, DCLXVI 09:52, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, you can use Wikipedia:bg:Article name to link to the Bulgarian Wikipedia. Angela (talk) 11:51, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It returns an error. I tried to link енциклопедия (encyclopedia), just to test it.
Bad title
The requested page title was invalid, empty, or an incorrectly linked inter-language or inter-wiki title.

--DCLXVI 18:12, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Very interesting. I can confirm that I had the same happen -- I tried both Wikipedia:es:Real Madrid and Wikipedia:el:Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης just to try another non-Latin alphabet. The Spanish worked but the Greek didn't. Thus I conclude that second-generation Interwiki (pass a language prefix to Wikipedia, who then directs you to the correct language version) doesn't seem to work for non-Latin alphabets. HTH, PhilipR 20:19, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Ah... this is because the link goes via the English Wikipedia, which isn't UTF8 yet so doesn't allow titles like Енциклопедия. Try redirecting via meta isn't of en: MetaWikipedia:bg:Енциклпедия. This will work, as will the shortcut "m" instead of "MetaWikipedia": m:bg:Енциклопедия. Angela (talk) 21:32, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. I want to report too, that the problem with stats on Ancientworld, reported in bug:56 is now fixed on this wiki. But the old articles, created before the fix are not counted. Is there a way to include them? -- DCLXVI 04:07, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] CC share alike for HoH

Is it possible to put CC share alike license on HoH? There is no need for GFDL. --millosh (talk) 22:50, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

All Wikicities need to be compatible with each other, and it is generally useful if they are compatible with Wikimedia's projects as well. For this reason, you do need to have them be GFDL. However, you are welcome to dual license the edits under a CC license, so people could choose whether to use the content under the GFDL or CC. Please see Multi-licensing for more information on this. Angela (talk) 00:47, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I realized yesterday that there would be a lot of problems widh CC-only... For example, if I use some text from Wikipedia and change it, I would have to write that that article is under GFDL... So, I would stay on GFDL. I just thought that it is possible to escape from GFDL (and to make distribution more easy) at the beginning of the project, but it is not. Anyway, thanks for the advices. (I don't think that I'll use dual license because it would make a lot of other difficulties.) --millosh (talk) 17:26, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Heya, TTF here again...

Just a small request, I've been looking at the way other wiki's have been able to edit their page designs (Especially the Mozilla Guys... wow...), and I've actually searched through most WikiMedia help sections I can get my paws on, but they don't appear to go further than basic help.

As a basic summary, I've been wanting to amend the following:

  • Computing Knowledgebase links in left frame. Taking just a General Glace, I can place readily-accessible topic information in there (Hardware, Software, etc). Placing a link to the Categories, and the CK Sandbox would also be helpful, too.
  • Amend the basic HTML layout of the actual frames, instead of just being confined to the articles themselves
    • This includes adding a watermark-style background, and altering the static text/highlight-text-with-cursor colours.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

[edit] Gambling content on GameinfoWiki

Hi Angela,

I see that for reasons of Google wikicities can't include gambling-related information. Obviously, this is going to cause problems on the Gameinfo Wiki, as gambling is done by partaking in games of chance while Gameinfo Wiki aims to have information on every game ever created. The general pages said to contact you in case of such a conflict. (I'd be interested in participating, but not if there's a potential problem waiting.) PHM (I'm Mysha on Wikipedia NL.)

I think this is fine. The different is that the gameinfo wiki will have information about gambling - it won't actually be a place where people are gambling. I very much doubt Google would regard that as prohibited content. Angela (talk) 05:53, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Presumably this holds true tenfold (I started to say "in spades", but I'd never convince you no pun was intended) for Pokerwiki. However, we're certainly not planning to play poker over the wiki, just talk about it, so it sounds like we're safe. -- PhilipR 17:12, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Yes, information about Poker should be fine. There is now a games: Wikicity where people can play games, but the exchange of money can't happen on the site, so gambling isn't actually possible there. I can't imagine, though I don't completely discount the possibility, that people are going to try to turn games: into an actual gambling site. I guess we'll deal with that when it arises. :) Angela (talk) 18:15, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Depromotion of a user

Is it possible to remove a user's bureaucrat with only bureaucrat status yourself? I tried to do this at pokemon: (with User:User142) but I'm not sure it worked (I accidentally checked the bureaucrat box). – Jello2 17:49, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, thank you. Also, I'm pretty sure user:User142 is wikipedia:User:User142, not 142-troll. – Jello2 11:59, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] CSS Request

Language CSS

We should have CSS classes for Babel templates to simplify/standardize coding:

This should be working now. You may need to refresh your cache to see the effects. Angela (talk) 13:28, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Maybe Danielwang forgot the "basic level". And how does it work? - upssdr talk 13:48, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

There were a lot of syntax mistakes in my code. "font-size:14pt" is missing a semi-colon (;). "min-height:45px" doesn't seem to work and needs to be changed to "height:45px;". CSS doesn't seem to use "//" as a comment code. The border colors are wrong... Better change to (test file)

(changes moved)

Is it better now? Angela (talk) 22:02, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] NO

http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Category:Business. i MUST point out that economics is NOT, in ANYWAY, a subset of business. economics is a social science, a very wide ranging one at that (an article on this) and thus should be in social sciences category. business on the other hand is bullshit, its a collection of buzzwords and buzzphrases, like click and bricks, see bullshit.--GregLoutsenko 00:08, 9 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Social science. Feel free to edit it at Economics if you're not happy with the category. Angela (talk) 20:37, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)
yes. http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Wikicities doesnt have Social science as a catogery. it must be just me, i am a bit confused about the organisation of the categories, but dont worry ill try my best to get it--GregLoutsenko 20:40, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Templates re Inappropriate Content

Hi. I just replaced the {{placement}} template with the {{NotCitiesWiki}} on the Setif page. Since the cities: wikicity is now trying the wider purpose, I would like to suggest that this content belongs there. I think the NotCitiesWiki also replaces the delete-because, but wasn't sure so I didn't remove that template. Hope that was ok. --CocoaZen 20:36, 9 Jul 2005

Thanks for letting me know. I agree that replaces the delete one. Angela (talk) 02:52, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Lots of vandalism tonight by 70.70.188.182 who also seemed to have given him/herself the ID of Admin. Posted team.zitenet.com and various inappropriate garbage and blanking. I blacklisted the URL and blocked 70.70.188.182 and Admin for 24 hours. Perhaps the ID of Admin shouldn't be allowed (suggestion by Phroziac with which I agree). Should it be blocked indefinately? Thanks to Phroziac and Imperialles who both helped revert the vandalism. --CocoaZen 01:13, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I've blocked that account permanently. It's not an appropriate username. Angela (talk) 02:52, 10 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Creating Administrative Privileges

I tried to give Pjotr'k administrative privileges on the Stargate Wikicity. The system won't let me.
I'm not positive that I have bureaucratic rights there. I think I do; it lets me access the make a user into a sysop page, which I can't access on other wikis where I don't have the authorization to make the change.
I was wondering if the apostrophe (') in the ID is causing a problem, and if you know a way around this? --CocoaZen 14:20, 14 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I think it was the apostophe causing problems. The solution is to type "#3290" instead of "Pjotr'k". #3290 is the user's internal ID number, which can be found by asking the user to check their Preferences. Angela (talk) 03:33, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] interlanguage for conlang(s)

Hi, Angela.

I am interested in addng interlanguage support to the conlang wikicity... particularly I am interested in adding interlanguage support for any variety of new languages, not just Mediawiki supported languages.

Alternatively I might ask for a new wikicity for encyclopedias writen in conlangs with the requested features.

How should I proceed?

Carlos Th (talk) 19:04, 26 Jul 2005 (UTC)

replied at conlang:User talk:Chlewey
Well, for interlanguage support I mean that I want to create namespaces that behave like the language interwikis in Wikipedia or the C wikicity. Just that they are languages that would not be used outside a particular wikicity.
Anyhow, where can I get documentation on language.php files?
How easily can new languages, that are uninteresting for the whole mediawiki community, be introduced?

Hi Angela,

Just want to ask if Kate's tool has a wikicities version. And how can I request for adminship on my Wiki, if ever I want to become one? Do I have to apply here at Central? Chosen One 18:58, 27 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I just wanted to find out how many edits I wanted, but obviously it only works for Wikipedia. Concerning adminship, I'm not yet that interested in becoming an admin, but we're thinking of opening the Wiki to the public (via Mugglenet et al.), and it might eventually be necessary to have more than one absentee admin. I don't have any experience yet. Do you think it's a good idea to try it out there or should I get some experience on WP first? Thanks a lot. ;) User:Chosen One/sig 09:50, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)

I've not changed my mind. You can't access Wikipedia because you're banned there. Please stop trying to edit Wikipedia. There are many alternative wiki hosts where you can put your content. See the Wikibooks list of hosts I gave you before. Angela (talk) 05:34, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)
You said: "you're banned there, go away!". Could you please search a little bit a discover WHY I was banned? I was banned because they accused me of beeing another banned user. You dont seem to care about the reason I was banned, and whether this was fair on unfair, dont you? You are just saying "you are banned" and then your conscience is clear. Are you always doing what they told you to do, without judging whether your action is fair or unfair? BoW Bank 13:10, 29 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MiniWiki became MaxiWiki

Hi Angela,

I have a question about moving MiniWiki content.

I have applied for a new Wikicity (TsukubaWiki) and I started working on it in MiniWikis. I originally intended to only put up three or four pages, but the project has kind of blossomed (quite unexpectedly) and now we already have over 200 pages. When (and if) we get approval for the official TsukubaWiki, will it be possible to move all the pages at once (and automatically) to the official location?

I'm sorry if this is not the right place for this question. If that is the case, please let me know where I should post it.

Thank you!

-- Shaney 04:40, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)

The new wiki is at w:c:tsukuba. Good luck with it. :) Angela (talk) 09:57, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Hi Angela. Thank you for setting up the new Tsukuba Wiki. We have moved all of the content over to the official page now. Please feel free to delete any TsukubaWiki content that remains on scratchpad. All pages have the category "TsukubaWiki", in case that helps. If I can do anything to help erase the content from the scratchpad, please let me know.

If possible, I would like this content to be removed so it doesn't conflict with the information in the new page. If there is no way for you to do it automatically, I can go through and erase the content of each page manually. Please advise.

Thanks!

-- Shaney 15:43, 4 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry. I'll delete the pages (probably when I am back home next week) if another Scratchpad admin doesn't get to it first. User:Angela 13:00, 6 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikicities logo license

Hi Angela,

could you tell me whether the Wikicities logo can be used in the Hungarian Wikipedia? There is no license information; it is used under fair use in the en: Wikipedia, but that doesnt apply in Hungary. Could you possibly place it under a free license?

(I tried to contact Jasonr about this, but got no answer.)

thx, --hu:Tgr (152.66.212.151 22:14, 8 Aug 2005 (UTC))

replied at wikipedia:hu:user talk:Tgr. Angela (talk) 14:01, 9 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer. To my knowledge, there is no way in Hungary to use an image without explicit permisssion from the copyright holder, regardless of type and trademark status. Maybe you could give permission to use the image in Wikipedia, or in WikiMedia projects? Or permit using it in connection with WikiCities?

As for the Sablon:Más wikik logos, they are linked from Commons. We assumed, that placing an image in Commons automatically means at least that the sister projects are permitted to use it. If that is not the case, could you please clarify their legal status and give a permission similar to the above one? We use those images quite often, eg. in interproject link templates.

(OTOH if being in Commons does mean permission, then uploading the WikiCities logo there with a license similar to those of the WikiMedia trademarks would solve the problem.)

As a side note, the Wikiquote and commons:Image:Wikispecies-logo.png logos are under GFDL in Commons. Is this incorrect then?

--Tgr (152.66.212.151 12:40, 10 Aug 2005 (UTC))

Sorry to bother you again, but could you please find a suitable license for the lgogos (eg. permission to use them on *.wikipedia.org)? The current legal uncertainity often causes problems. (For example, one of the hungarian wikipedians created a welcome mug based on the official Wikipedia logo; after looking through the relevant articles on Meta, the english Wikipedia and Commons, we found no information at all about the legal status of this image. (Except fo wikipedia:m:talk:logo, which requests that such images be put under GFDL - which is probably incorrect.))

thanks, --Tgr (talk) (--152.66.212.151 00:32, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC))

The logos can be used on Wikipedia, but they are trademarks, so can't be freely licensed. The ones on commons are all now marked as "copyright to wikimedia", not GFDL (or at least they should be). Angela (talk)

[edit] Control, Independence, or Death

Why do you keep bugging me? I did not mean to attract unwanted attention, but i don't want anymore interference with my user pages! Stop being my enemy, i'm trying to get away from all my problems on the wiki. I'm looking for a freely editable website where my user pages can be left alone in peace and privacy. No one (except me) controls my user page because his/her changes to my user pages will disappoint me and no one controls what i do to my user pages (i don't vandalize them though). Stop destroying my user page, the content i put on there is very important to me. I don't like to use my user pages for project purposes only - it's too boring! I have many user pages on the internet, but i combine them as links to my user pages. I keep my user page as half-fact and half-fiction. What i am doing to my user pages is not spamming - i hate spam! Stop giving comments against me - they make me angry and stop chasing me across the wiki - i don't want to die!

On the other hand, my user content includes my work on the wiki, again, you misunderstood my "revolutionary reformation" ideas and you wrongly interpret me as a threat. I don't want anyone to become my enemies who are intent on destroying me and banishing me from the entire wiki, so please leave me alone in peace! -- Eddyward Telerionus 10:08, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] New York Wikicity

Hi, it's Pharos of the English Wikipedia here (I can confirm this on en.wikipedia if you want). I would like to revive the rather moribund New York Wikicity (if it's not yet been put on the adoption list, it's pretty darn close; see changes over the last 30 days). So I am requesting admin status on newyork.wikicities. Maybe I should be given bureaucrat status as well. Thanks.--Pharos 00:03, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiversity

It looks like Wikiversity might finally be kicked out of wikibooks. Is there any way that Wikiversity could exist as a wikicity until it gets designated as a stand-alone project? Maybe wikiversity could just move to the university node wiki --JWSchmidt 20:56, 13 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Universitywikinodewiki was actually meant to have been locked ages ago. It's superceded by education: and students:, the former of which could provide a place for the Wikiversity pages on Wikibooks. However, the vision I have of Wikiversity requires software changes, so I don't see much benefit to simply moving the pages off Wikibooks to any site here. If it was to be here, it ought to be hosted without ads, since we're currently trying to find grants to support its development, which aren't so likely to come if it appears to be hosted on a commercial site. Angela (talk) 21:40, 13 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Hello Angela, I indicated support for leaving Wikiversity as it is on its talk page. I have put work on a New Testament translation on both Wikibooks (Christianity) and Religion-Wiki (User:Athrash). Wikibooks admins may have a problem with Christianity as a title which is evangelizing in itself. They called parts of it: raw Bible. So what, it all qualifies as annotated texts and is non-denominational. I only go to Religion occasionly to keep a back-up possibility, Gareth has helped me with the classic languages. I just found the Main Page redirected to WP:nonsense and have no admin credentials. That was a puzzle, but I was able to revert using URL address for Religion Main Page History. All of the entries of 67.181.63.245 may have similar results and I did not have time to check them all. Athrash 03:36, 14 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] dear angela..bout my wikicites...

1. I have no email 2. I need would prefer my proposed amtgard wiki over the animal crossing wiki as the amtgard wiki was requested on other boards I know about. 3. I would take care of all wikicitys!

Order I want my cities:

1. amtgard 2. dead kennedys 3. animal crossing

--Aeryka 01:43, 14 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Perhaps you could try these other ones at scratchpad first since the animalcrossing one has been inactive for so long, it doesn't seem a good idea to start two more before there is anyone interested in them. Angela (talk)

[edit] Investments & Cities

Amazingly enough, the vandals do not seem to have found either, the relative lack of activity notwithstanding. I just finished creating a new logo for Investments, it only took three programs to create the darn thing. Now I would like to upload and need admin privs. Also since only CocoaZen and Myself will admit to mucking about on the cities wiki, maybe we could be made admins there as well.

One other thing that concerns me is that the statistics don't seem to be functioning properly for Investments. I know Investments isn't doing all that much as yet, but I would appreciate if someone would take a look at it eventually. Among other things, it doesn't seem interested in showing up in the comparison table at www.wikicities.com/wikistats/EN/TablesDatabaseSize.htm.--Kirk 03:20, 14 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] .doc support for toastmasters wikicity?

Flushed with my success at http://toastmasters.wikicities.com I've started not one, but two conference wikicities. One for a conference in October and another in May 2006. I started them today, monday 15 august and am promoting them aggressively.

I think the http://toastmasters.wikicities.com site would really benefit from having .doc upload support. Many of the resources we currently use are in .doc support. .doc is also much smaller than .pdf so is bandwidth friendly.

[edit] Academia wikicity interwiki code

Is there a functioning interwiki link code for Academia or should we just use [[w:c:wikiname:pagename]]; w:c:Academia:Main Page? --JWSchmidt 19:43, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Just w:c:Academia:Main Page. New wikis aren't being added to the interwiki map since it was unscalable to maintain the list manually and somewhat pointless when w:c: works from here and wikicities:c: works from other wikis. Angela (talk) 02:09, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Change Wikiadmins

Hi! we Have A problem with our Wikicity Site Abitur Wissen: The admin is away and never come back. Hopefully you want to make me and FProg as admins. That would be great, beacause we need Admins to lead the whole thing...

Could you help us, please? We really need an admin there. I tried to contact Juli, who created the Abi Wiki, some time ago (see the discussions), but there was no response. However, we need an admin to translate and change the MediaWiki messages, to delete pages etc. It would be great if you could set me and/or Jonnyisback as admins there. -- FProg (Talk) 22:09, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Title Change?

Hey is there a way to get my wiki's title changed to WikiBestiary? It seems "teratology" is used most often for the study of birth defects and I think that might be a little confusing. Thanks. Tengu 07:18, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Sure. I'll do that now. Angela (talk) 10:19, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Statistics not working

Neither Wikistats nor Webalizer seem to be funtioning. Wikistats seems to be stuck at 8/15 and Webalizer at 8/16.--Kirk 23:48, 25 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Jason is hoping to have these back online soon. Angela (talk)

[edit] Block user Linuxbeak

I want help to block Linuxbeak in the swedish Memory Alpha wikicity. He is apparentely not at fault, but someone is using his account to create trouble. Can you block him? Peter R 08:27, 26 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Harry Potter Wiki Title

Hi Angela, can you please change the Harry Potter Wiki site name from "Harry Potter" to "Harry Potter Wiki"? I think we've made the decision here. Vostok also agrees with the renaming, as long as the URL doesn't change. P.S., I've posted the German translation for the message box. «Rainer» 02:32, 27 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Need Help Blocking a Spammer

Angela, I'm contacting you because the Alaska wiki is having a problem with the same spammer who pasted a link at the top of THIS page. He's vandalizing our main talk page. Maybe since the problem with this person is more widespread than just us, he could be blocked completely. When I look at the page histories, I see that the ip address changes each time, so I don't know exactly what to do here. BTW, I "defused" the link he left at the top of this page because this message got filtered out the first time I left it. (It was convenient for me that he left an example right here, so you could see who I'm talking about.) This is our first problem with a persistant vandal. I need a little direction here.--Doug 18:20, 27 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] redirect to porno spam

Angela ... someone used your id at 3:48 to redirect my user page
http://peace.wikicities.com/wiki/User:-ts-
to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Autofellatio_2.jpg
i changed it back.
if anyone else has this problem ...
use http://'''YOUR WIKI'''/index.php?title=User:''YOUR ID''&action=edit
to get in to edit it. -ts-talk 04:01, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)
update ... in fact, all admin pages were altered along with a few other pages.
so someone got access to your ID Angela ... and signed in as you.
unless of course it WAS you. ;)
from Recent Changes, one can do a rollback.
-ts-talk 04:23, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)
It wasn't my ID. It was User:%CE%91ngela, not User:Angela. I've blocked it on the peace wiki and Jason has changed its password to prevent it editing anywhere else. Angela (talk) 05:34, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)
thanks. i didn't really think it was you. ;)
i did wonder at how someone was able to hijack your ID. interesting fakeout.
it's hard to keep up with all of this junk ... and impossible to head it off.
seems all we can do is clean up the mess after the fact.
thanks again. -ts-talk 15:41, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Desencyclopedie URL

Hello Angela... Did you by any chance receive my email about the domain name www.desencyclopedie.com, which I can redirect to the Désencyclopédie? Do you think it's ok? Thanks! --Philo 10:26, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Finding IPs to block spammers?

Hi Angela. I'm an admin on the Doom Wiki. We had some spammer vandalise our homepage but I am unable to IP-ban them because they actually registered an account ("1231232"). As far as I can tell there isn't any way in MediaWiki to find someone's IP address, even if you're an admin.

Obviously, if you could block them it would be great, but it would be nice to have a way to do this so that it is not neccessary to bother you again in future. Fraggle 12:13, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your unprotedtion of Avatar Main Page

I thought about the harm, but it was only protected form moves. I am unsure how to fix move vandalism, so it added a little peaceo f mind to me. I don't really mind if it stays unprotected, though. Howabout1 22:09, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Guardian Angel - protecting pages

Hi Angela, Sorry - we were protecting pages so that all the countrys citizens wouldn't go in and edit the 'reports' in our virtual newspaper written by our citizen correspondents. We panicked a bit just before CitTV came out last week as we thought that the newspaper might be mentioned on TV, and so people might go in and look at the work etc. However, I shall refrain from protecting the pages, and shall instruct the other correspondents to do the same. Hope this resolves the issue. Thanks, Suzkin.

[edit] World of Darkness Wiki

Hi Angela,

There are two wiki's in wikicities aimed at fan-made content for the RPG World of Darkness. I have been in discussion with the editors at nwod.wikicities.com and I believe that we want to combine our wiki's at the new url wod.wikicities.com and have the wiki name of "World of Darkness Wiki." Please put the founders as myself and Atlastawake (I think there is actually one more founder but I haven't met him/her yet). Hopefully we can smooth this out quickly and continue to create the first/best wiki for WoD.

Thanks, Ravious

The new wiki is at wod.wikicities.com for these two to be combined into. Angela (talk)

[edit] Wikifun

Hello Angela,

can you change the title of the wiki fun.wikicities.com from "Sammlung von Witzen" into: "Wikifun", please? On Wikibooks there is also another Jokebook in English available - perhaps it's possible to start a English version of Wikifun for collecting english jokes here, too. Thank u -- Achim 06:49, 10 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I've checked the use of language again and I think the best thing is to use the domain fun.wikicities.com for a multilanguage start page where the language can be selected (like here: cpp.wikicities.com). For the german and english version we need two different subdomains: de.fun.wikicities.com (german) and en.fun.wikicities.com (english). Both wikis should have the title "Wikifun". I hope you can help me -- Achim 13:58, 11 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikicities:Wikicities tour/Create a new tour stop

Dear Angela, I've been tinkering with your precious Wikicities:Wikicities tour/Create a new tour stop. I'm fairly sure it still works. I believe the headings and line-spacings, etc, will make it easier to use. Now to do one for LOTR! Robin Patterson 12:02, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC) (Your clock is 15 minutes slow??)

LOTR done. My fiddles worked well. Please have a tour! (OK, I know you're busy 25/7) Robin Patterson 01:40, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Consolidating Cities?

Angela - Kimbayne and I have discussed merging the Tucson Wikicity, which was up for adoption and to which Kim had been the main contributor and founder, into the Cities Wikicity. Would that be ok? Could the existing pages be ported over (preferably with a "Tucson:")? If it can't be done with a mass move, I guess we could do manual copy and paste. Then Tucson could be closed down, but the content and opportunities to grow would remain. And it would greatly enrich the content on the Cities site. Your opinions? --CocoaZen 15:19, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Yes, that sounds fine. Let me know when you want me to lock the Tucson wiki from editing. Angela (talk) 00:16, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)

[edit] wikilink to a image @ the main wikicities?

Can you wikilink to a image @ the main wikicities from a subdomain. I have tried but only got a missing image notice. Thanks for any feed back. Reddi 16:56, 18 Sep 2005 (UTC) [crossposted]

No, this isn't possible. You need to re-upload the image to the wiki you want to use it on. Angela (talk) 00:16, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)

[edit] Extension

Bonjour Angela,

I would like to know if it is possible to add an extension to create partitions, like here : http://wikisophia.org/wiki/Wikitex#Music.

it would be useful to transcribe images like this one (and much of others) : w:c:Nietzsche:Image:Oratorio.jpg.

Thank you. Marc 05:55, 21 Sep 2005 (EDT)

I'm not convinced this extension is safe enough yet since it hasn't been installed on Wikipedia or any other Wikimedia sites. Do you know of any wikis that are using it? Angela (talk) 05:27, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I don't know. I only wanted some informations on this extension.

I have a problem with advertisements : I do not think that advertisements for lingerie or for meetings are compatible with a wiki on a philosopher. In Prohibited content, Pornography, adult, or mature content are prohibited. Marc 13:13, 21 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Sorry about this. Google should not be serving up inappropriate ads. Do you have some examples of what they were linking to? You can also contact Google directly about this using the address at [2]. Angela (talk) 05:27, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
For example : http://www.eurochallenges.com/index.php?r=1. The text on the wiki is "meet serious with beautiful woman. Simple and fast relation" (sorry for my english). It is a little bit ambiguous... Or sale of lingerie on ebay. The problem is not that I have something against this (these advertisements are however for adults), but that's not very serious for a wiki on a philosopher : this wiki is referenced by a doctoral school in France... Marc 18:53, 22 Sep 2005 (UTC)
The ads are based on the content of the page, so should (in theory) be appropriate to it. I see what you mean about the products being for adults, but the content of the ads themselves will hopefully not be x-rated or anything like that. I don't think there's any way of preventing any content like this, though if there are specific URLs you want me to block, I can do that. Angela (talk) 20:35, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

That is not possible ! see : w:c:Nietzsche:Accueil :

These links are absolutely not appropriate ! Marc 10:37, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I have examined how ads are selected. The main page contents the word outil and there is an advertisement for technological tools !! With the word historiques > advertisement for blason, armoirie. For the article w:c:Nietzsche:Friedrich Nietzsche, there are ads to stop smoking... I don't understand in this case.

My conclusion is that the method for select advertisements is probably based on words that a page contents.

The problem is not only that there is ads for adults (livres pornographiques et érotiques on the main page), the problem is that the method is very bad in general, and the results are very inappropriate for all cases. Marc 11:52, 24 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but Wikia has little control over this. The ads are selected by Google, and are meant to be appropriate for all ages. If you are seeing pornographic content there, then I don't think these are coming from Google. Is there any chance you have a virus on your computer that is changing the ads into something else? Angela (talk)

[edit] Adding a CGI IRC Portal

Might it be possible to get a CGI IRC portal active for polaqu:'s channel #polaqu, similar to that found here? I would imagine it would be good for fostering a better community there. Mathx314(talk)(email) 00:50, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Done. The channel is now accessible from irc.wikicities.com. Angela (talk) 20:35, 23 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Homeworld wiki administration

Hi, just checking in as I still have not been set as administrator for the wiki I started (homeworld.wikicities.com). I did notify you be email but either you didn't get it or were too busy to act. I'd just like to know when this is going to happen. Niirfa-sa (talk) 16:14, 26 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, I missed
