auch noch zu meinem Progressive Rock Wiki: Ich denke, das bietet dann ja jetzt doch an, die idee erstmal im musikwiki zu starten, da erstens wahrscheinlich nicht viele User mitmachen werden und weil ja jetzt die Rock-Abteilung sowieso ausgebaut wird (denke ich mal). Is it possible to disable this funktion? Like not being searched by google or sth like that??

  1. möchte ich gerne das Monobook-Skin als meinen Default-Skin wie das englische Club Penguin-Wiki, da dies übersichtlicher ist und viele Leute Wikipedia gewohnt sind. Könntest du das für mich einrichten? Danke.
  2. wäre es nett wenn du mir erzählen könntest wir ich meine navigation-bar ändern kann, also einen Link da einfügen oder herausnehmen und wie ich ein weiteres menü erstellen kann.

Antworten deiner Fragen:
  1. Wikia unterstützt seit der Einführung von Monaco nicht mehr Monobook, es sei den das Wikia wurde noch mit Monobook erstellt. Aber abgesehen davon, bietet Monaco viele neue nützliche und tolle Features, wo Monobook einfach nicht mithalten kann. Aber wie ich sehe, benutzt De.Club Penguin-Wiki noch Monobook. Schaue mal in deinen Einstellungen nach ob du vielleicht ein anderes persönliches Skin (für dich) eingestellt hast.
  2. Die Navigation von Monobook kannst du unter MediaWiki:Sidebar, von Quartz unter MediaWiki:Navlinks und von Monaco unter MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar bearbeiten. Eine ausführliche Anleitung zur Monaco-Anpassung findest du in Inside-Wikia.

Aufgrund der besseren Anpassbarkeit und der erweiterten Funktionen von Monaco bieten wir Monobook nicht mehr als Standard-Skin an. Die Möglichkeit es in den eigenen Einstellungen vzu verankern besteht aber wie bisher weiterhin. Das englische Club Penguin hat jetzt seit einer Weile auch Monobook als Standard-Skin, so dass es sinnvoll ist, dass dies bei den einzelnen Sprachversionen auch der Fall ist. Hi Tim. I haven't been around the #wikia-de channel much because we didn't have many "customers"; if you start to get people needing help when you aren't around, please let me know and I'll come back to help.

I'm actually here about something else. I understand you're an admin at de.WP. We're having a big (and important, I think) discussion about whether to start putting the "Good Article" symbol at the top of Good Articles in mainspace on en.WP. It's been pointed out that the Spanish and Chinese WP's do this. I posted this at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:GA:

You can see an example of a German "Lesenswerte" ("worthy of reading") page at [2]. Their equivalent of WP:GA begins: "Die folgenden Artikel sind fachlich korrekt, belegt, ausführlich und informativ. Deshalb wurden sie mit File:Qsicon lesenswert.png gekennzeichnet." Correct me if I'm wrong, someone, but I translate this as: "The following articles are correct with respect to their subject, (well) sourced, extensive and informative. For these reasons, they are denoted by File:Qsicon lesenswert.png." If anyone wants to know, I know one of the German admins and I'll ask him if any of the problems brought up by the opposition below have been in evidence on the German Wikipedia.

They do want to know :) What's your opinion, has the "L" symbol on de.WP caused people to believe things about the quality of the articles that was not true? Sorry, that I was ignoring this message for so long. Catching up with Wikipedia discussions is very time consuming and I wasn't able to find enough ease to deal with it. All in all I can say that the community (it's hard to measure the impact outside of the community) is happy with having "Lesenswerte" article besides the "Exzellente Artikel". The requirements of "Exzellente Artikel" are very high (and so there are not too many), but there are many "good" articles out there which are definitly worth reading. This was the birth of the "Lesenswerte Artikel". At the beginning, there were objections against the idea (including me) because of the fear that the quality standards will lower. This hasn't happened - contrary: the requirements for "Lesenswerte Artikel" were raised. Both, the "lesenswerte" and the "exzellente" symbols are today perceived as an indication of quality. --Avatar@Wikia 04:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I don't completely understand the issue. It just sounds like you are talking about moving to a dedicated German help wiki and using interlanguage links and a redirect from a de.help to the German word for help.

Though I do have an interesting possibility. The id used in the parser cache can actually be modified by extensions. So actually, it's functionally possible to have different content depending on the content language. Basically with an extension it should be possible to have langcode.help.wikia.com setup so that the langcode will alter the content language variable (Actually my dev site uses the langcode trick for testing). It should also be possible to make use of an extension to make it so that when you visit XYZ on ....help.wikia.com if XYZ/langcode exists then the content of XYZ/langcode will replace the content of XYZ using the ParserBeforeStrip hook, and also include the lang code inside of the parser cache's id.

Functionally that will mean that help.wikia.com can contain help in every language. Changing the code to go to de.help.wikia.com, ja.help.wikia.com, etc... Will change the content language of the help wiki. And if there are localized versions of a help page then they will be displayed there instead of the English help. Yes, dealing with multiple languages probably does get a bit complex, especially when you want titles to work correctly to.
Though if you did go the extension method. It may actually be possible to #ALIAS titles together. Perhaps some sort of map that maps titles in other languages to the English page. The extension would smartly handle redirects to point people at the title according to what language they are viewing in. Ich würde dich bitten, doch das Schuelerwiki zu erstellen, da im Bildungswiki oft nur Internetlinks gezeigt werden und die Artikel sehr kurz sind. Ich hätte auch schon Personen, die mich unterstützen würden. Das Bildungswiki ist ja leider nicht sehr aktiv - was würdest du denn davon halten, es zu adoptieren und entsprechend deiner Vorstellungen umuzgestalten? Ja das könnte ich machen, ich werde es mir überlegen. Es wäre aber auch schön, wenn ich vielleicht noch die Alternative hätte das Schuelerwiki als einzelnes Wiki zu machen.
Um ganz ehrlich zu sein, bin ich noch nicht davon überzeugt, dass ein relativ breit angelegtes Schülerwiki funktioniert. Ich würde vorschlagen, dass du a) versucht das Bildungswiki nach deinen Vorstellungen umzubauen oder b) ein Schülerwiki als Mini-Wiki startest. Hallo, ich bekomme es einfach nicht hin, daß mein Logo angezeigt wird. Ich habe es als "Wiki.png" hochgeladen, es hat die richtige Größe und leider wird es auch nach einigen Tagen nicht angezeigt. Ich sehe immer nur den blauen "Wikia"- Schriftzug. Das Wappen, das angezeigt werden soll ist hier. Wie gesagt, es ist hochgeladen, Name und Größe stimmt. Woran liegts? *verzweifelt guck*

Du hast dir einen schlechten Zeitpunkt ausgesucht um das Bild upzudaten :-). Spaß beiseite. Tut mir leid, dass es ein Problem gibt - du machst nichts falsch. Bereits seit letzter Woche (!) gibt es das Problem, dass Bilder nicht überschrieben werden können. Die Erklärung ist recht umfangreich. Um es abzukürzen: Das Problem ist in Arbeit und wird hoffentlich bald gelöst sein. Ich habe noch mal extra auf der deutschsprachigen Hauptseite darauf hingewiesen.

Die Hauptkategorie wird angezeigt, was ich gemeint habe ist die Vorlage:{{TOC1}}. Die will einfach nicht tun, was sie soll ;-(

Ah, ok. Auf diese Weise wird das leider nicht funktionieren (ich wüsste auch keinen einfachen Ersatz). Die Vorlage TOC1 wird in "normalen Artikel" eingesetzt und funktioniert einfach dadurch, dass die entsprechenden Anker angesprungen werden. Kategorie-Seiten sind aber anders aufgebaut, so dass die Vorlage hier nicht funktioniert. Da die Kategorie "intern" von MediaWiki generiert wird, sehe ich hier auch wenig Chancen für eine andere Lösung. TOC1 kann eigentlich nur bei "händisch erstellten" Seiten benutzt werden. --Avatar@Wikia 22:46, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

In 95% der Fälle liegt das daran, wenn du unter "MEHR...", "Einstellungen", "Bearbeiten", "Externen Editor als Standard benutzen" eingeschaltet hast. Ausschalten und es funktioniert wieder.
Alternativ kann sich auch der Browser "verschluckt" haben. Browser-Cache löschen sollte helfen.
Falls beides nicht klappt, melde dich bitte noch einmal mit einer genauen Fehlerbeschreibung (URL, Browser, Betriebssystem, was du klickst, ...). --Avatar@Wikia 08:06, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your notice. Well... if the local policy is against the use of email adresses and there is no interest in keeping my user page, I have no big problem if it gets deleted. I won't adjust my standard user page only for this wiki because it's online in all of our wikis and some kind of "service" for other users. Hi! User:Kirkburn from the help wiki asvised me to talk to you. I'm a b'crat on the Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Wiki and recently a german wiki was created. I wanted to suggest to the new b'crat there that on our sidebars we have an additional languages option to attract more users or direct people to a wiki using their primary language. I believes that many bad guys treat the EVCHK as the host of uploading images. So could you help me set the restriction on uploading, i.e. just Autoconfirmed user could have upload right or something like that?

[edit] Problem with banners in ES - Lostpedia

Hi, Avatar, we've got a problem here in the Spanish Lostpedia. The thing is, one of the ads (a banner) turned vertical and blocks the view of the main page. It was horizontal until the last week, so I wonder if someone from the Wikia staff could change it back to its original position in the top of the page.

Hi, Tim Bartel (or Avatar), I'm WikiCriador, a brazilian user (this information for you know the why of my terrible english :P) of the "Wikisimpsons" in portuguese and the creator of the "Andy Griffiths Wiki", and I've some questions about wiki codes and the Media Wiki pages. Could you answer this questions for me, please?

I saw "Wikia Help", but there is incomplete. I want know some of the Media Wiki pages, because I have to edit this pages to make changes on my wiki (Andy Griffiths Wiki). Do you know some of this pages and what it changes? If you know, please talk with me.

Hey Avatar,

About announcing the translations, this will be done using talk page messaging, right? Could the translations of talk page messaging also be added to International? This way, when we announce the new features (placeholder, my home, dynamic links, etc.) this will be in Dutch. Also; all the translations on messaging can be implemented online (except if somebody else has to check them, I'll try to find somebody then).

That's kind of a service! Thanks :-). Will need a few days. The translation of talk page messaging perhaps isn't too useful, because only staff kan use this tool. Allright ;). I've shortened the message, however, this does mean that the message does not include the word "image" in Dutch; I'm not certain if this will cause any confusion, but I couldn't find a different way to shorten it. This guy, "Desbico" are the only contributor in that wiki, and all the articles there are about our staff team (all of then offending us), because he was banned. Well, he is using my real name and my photo, I think he gets this on my orkut or facebook. I really appreciate if you delete this content and protect my name for new creations.
