[edit] Text Field and Button: Add code to article?
Hey JSharp. Got another problem for you: How can I made a field box and button such that when I click the button it adds a new line of code to a given article? Here's an example: The highlighed text is what the button would add: http://wikia.pastey.net/85516-2zaa . The original Template is here: http://shaiya.wikia.com/wiki/User:Data/Weapon/All-Stripped/SB and after adding the line it's this: http://shaiya.wikia.com/wiki/User:Data/Weapon/All-Stripped2/SB Nicolasjager 05:33, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, in this case you'd need to follow the instructions here: http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Custom_edit_buttons . That should be everything you need :) -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] Problem Advert
I already requested that you block the inappropriate ad with Jessica Simpson in her wet T-shirts but since it's still around, here's the URL. http://hosted.zango.com/affiliates/lp/JessicaSimpson.htm?ref=30289 -Arias Knight
- Sorry about the trouble, it's just that we'll need a bit more information about the ad to block it successfully. Here are the instructions to get the information we'll need:
How can I report a bad advertisement --- Firefox instructions
- Right click on the ad
- If the Element Properties box appears then copy the url shown for Image Properties - Location: It's probably a very long url so be sure to copy the whole line.
- If a flash player menu appears (which is likely for animated ads)
- Ignore the flash menu
- On the Firefox toolbar, click Tools=>Page Info
- Select the Media tab from the Page Info popup
- Look through the list of address for a very long URL, its probably the longest URL in the list
- Copy that url
- Note the URL of the wiki where the ad was spotted and the size of the ad.
- If convenient, send a snapshot of the ad as well.
- Collect the above data into an e-mail and send it to community@wikia.com and your removal request will be evaluated. Please note that bad ad requests are evaluated on a case by case basis.
This is an example of a typical ad url:
http://content.mmanager.nmcxnnet.net/atmos/f9/43/f9439va8afb77a799ga9sg83.swf?clickTag=http%3A%2F%2Fads%2Drm%2Errroorrr%2Ecom%2Fasdf%asdfiaosdASDFASDF
.
If you don't have firefox please let me know which browser you do have and I'll get some instructions made up for it.

[edit] All Messages
Hi. When I translate some of the messages in here on fa.wikia it only changes on that wikia. Where I can translate the messages that will show up every where?
- And please look at this.--BlueDevil Talk 21:30, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, you can add your messages into w:c:internationalization and they'll be reviewed and copied over globally though that wiki may be being deprecated. -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] Template
Hello,
I was told that you're Wikia's resident Template expert, so I'm asking for help. I'm the (less expert) Templater on Elderscrolls Wikia, but I'm having trouble with this one. It's an attempt to merge some other templates into one for more easy use. Could you take a look at it? The code should work, but when tried it, well, doesn't. Thanks in advance. - Game LordTalk|Contribs 14:10, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi :) I've taken a look at your code and I'm going to need a bit more time to work on it. I'll let you know what I find out soon. -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] Bug in the logo script in the hebrew eincyclopedia
in firefox it's work fine, but in explorer it's disappear and after few seconds appear again and it's says that there are bug in the page, can you fix it? {{SUBST:ס:משתמש:אובונטו מן/חתימה אוטומטית}} 15:19, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- hmm, I took a look at it but IE is a little hard to debug. It should be identical to the english uncyclopedia. Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies? -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] About translations
See Jack Phoenix message on Forum:Translations.
To reproduce this:
- Go to Special:Allmessages of a non-english wiki, and select one system message that:
- Is already translated in the language of that wiki but is not modified in that wiki (the message has a red link). That means that the message is picked from the .php script of that language on the server.
- and a translation for that message doesn't exist in w:c:messaging.
- For example, to see if the message MediaWiki:Exif-fnumber is translated in German, go to w:c:messaging:MediaWiki:Exif-fnumber/de and check that it doesn't exist.
- Then create the message in english on messaging. For example: w:c:messaging:MediaWiki:Exif-fnumber. Note: without /en because the base language for messaging is english).
A live example, in Spanish:
- On w:c:es.pokemon, w:c:es.pokemon:MediaWiki:Userrights-editusergroup is translated to Spanish, but the system message isn't created yet.
- On w:c:messaging:MediaWiki:Userrights-editusergroup/es doesn't exists
- Create w:c:messaging:MediaWiki:Userrights-editusergroup, with the text in english.
- Now w:c:es.pokemon:MediaWiki:Userrights-editusergroup shows the english message instead of the spanish one. That affects all languages (except english), so the default of that message in all languages of all wikis is now in english.
I picked that message because Special:Userrights isn't visible to users or sysops, and changes on that message aren't harmful.
PD: the deletion of these comments was intended? --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 19:25, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for giving me that list. The deletion of those comments wasn't intentional, and I've put them back. I'll see if I can reproduce that issue with your instructions and then I'll file a bug ticket. -- JSharp (talk)
19:34, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, I tried to reproduce the issue but your default message wasn't changed when I created w:c:messaging:MediaWiki:Userrights-editusergroup on messaging with the english text even when I was logged out. Is it possible the issue has been fixed already or that it was a temporary error? Can you point me at an existing message that should be in spanish according to default mediawiki message tables but is currently in english because of messaging? -- JSharp (talk)

Ok, my example didn't worked, but could you explain that?
- Creation, move and detete: [1], [2] and [3]. Now in all languages that message are totally empty: MediaWiki:Fancycaptcha-createaccount, MediaWiki:Captcha-badlogin, MediaWiki:Captcha-create, es:MediaWiki:Fancycaptcha-createaccount, es:MediaWiki:Captcha-badlogin, es:MediaWiki:Captcha-create. And yes, I say NOW because the default message exist in ConfirmEdit.i18n.php.
And about an example that you requested:
- I had to restore the default message of MediaWiki:Addsection because [4] (just compare dates). And that message is easily visible on all talk pages.
- [5], [6]
- [7], [8]
- [9], [10]
I can't explain why my avobe didn't worked. Maybe someone fixed it (except when the message is moved/deleted) or maybe it's completely random. Cheers. --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 14:06, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've been looking at this for the last several days, but I'm still having trouble reproducing this. I'll keep trying, if it's still happening for you. -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] <IMG> Problems
Hey JSharp,(again)
Thanks for your help with the collapsible tables and stuff.I use them a lot now.
I've been having a problem ever since I started working on Custom Bionicles:That external images don't work.Instead of displaying an image from other domain/sever/website,etc.,it shows the external link (this applies to even images from other wikis).Their are only two ways to make it work, but they don't solve it:
- Put it into a link as the shown text (like this:
<span class="plainlinks">[http://someURL someImage'sURL]</span>).
- Put it into a link as the shown text (like this:
- Use the URL of the image on our image server (i.e:the URL of a image on our wiki).
I've tried the <IMG> tag,but the system doesn't even recognize it as a proper tag (i.e:It shows it instead of hiding it when putting it around an external image URL).
Is there anything I can put in the Common.CSS of our wiki to make the <IMG> tag work or something? Please help!
--SethLaughEdits 20:50, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, external images for Wikia wikis are disabled due to their ability to be compromised. Was there a specific reason you wanted to use external images? -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] All Messages (Cont.)
Hi
Thanks for your answer. Messages in here are all translated, but in fa.wikia are some that are not in mediawiki and not translated yet. How can I translate them globaly?--BlueDevil Talk 22:19, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, so the messages have been translated in mediawiki core but haven't been brought over to wikia yet? We're currently working on devising a way to make it easy for users to contribute globally with translations. If you like you could make a page of links to your translated messages so that we might copy them over to messaging.wikia. If you like to help in translating messages for all mediawiki users, not just on wikia, you might take a look at the Beta wiki project. -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] Moving a wiki
Hi Justin, my name's Tom, and I'm new to Wikia. I've recently made the decision to move my wiki from another provider (Wikidot). Wikdot allow a backup/restore function, so I currently have over 600 text files (each one being a single page). Is there any way to upload these directly rather than through the interface (copy and paste x 600)?
My wiki is now at factopedia.wikia.com - glad if you could help! Soop 2 13:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks!
Thanks for your help in the past few days on Memory Alpha. It's nice to know there's someone else to fall back on when we less experienced folks exhaust our own resources. :) -- Renegade54 20:49, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, no problem. It's what I'm here for. If you have any other questions or concerns please just let me know and I'll be happy to help. -- JSharp (talk)

[edit] Wookieepedia problem report
It wasn't properly linked in the report (and apparently there's a separate problem there with punctuation in interwiki links, as I was forced to format this as a web link to preserve the ?), and I don't know that he'll bother to check followups. This is it. We don't have a clue what he's on about either. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 19:36, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
