[edit] I can't log on
Help me! I have just created an account here but it won't let me start a new Wiki, it wants me to verify my E-Mail address first, but it hasn't sent a message despite requesting many verification e-mails. What can I do? Me-Is-Malaysian 06:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, sounds very nasty indeed. But as it's said on preferences page, "E-mail (optional): Enables others to contact you through your user or user talk page without needing to reveal your identity." so you can log in and edit without it, but you do need an e-mail for requesting a wiki, because your wiki is given a mailing list and the staff makes you, the requester, also the admin of the mailing list. But I'd suggest that you go and create a new e-mail account, like on Gmail and add that to your preferences. Other than that, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 06:54, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Jack! Question:If you delete my redirect to (User:Emily)from the request wikia, would it be possible for me to recreate a new account User:Emily? --Adela 18:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- I can't delete it on requests as I'd need at least sysop powers for that, but you can ask a local admin or a staff member to do it. Anyway, you can create the new account even if that userpage exists. But I see no reason to create another account, that account name is very nice in my opinion. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 20:06, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you, anyway the name doesn't matter, but please take a look here: http://beekeeping.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Recentchanges --Adela 20:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, so is User:Emily your account or...do you want to adopt the wiki? --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 21:08, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- User:Emily was just a redirect that I made. Because of that redirect I cannot create User:Emily, because I get the message: Username is already in use. And about the wiki: it's brand new, Angela made it lately. --Adela 21:28, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Redirects do not prevent you from creating an account, but username Emily is already taken by another user, sorry about that. Thanks to Datrio for clarification. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 12:55, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, in order to shorten the discussion and to solve the major problem, please do one thing for me. Write a message to a staff mebber and tell him or her to change the group membership for User:Adela from (none) to sysop, bureaucrat at the beekeeping wiki. I will also change the name entered on the request page (Adela instead of Emily) to avoid other problems. Thank you for being so helpful on this wiki! Greetings, --Adela 14:54, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- I've made this change, and fixed the problem of the wrong email address being set for the mailing list -- Sannse 16:31, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- That's great, thanks a lot for you help, Sannse. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 17:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

- Sure, I'm on #wikia anyway for the most of the day, though I might be afk without being "away", so please, just wait, I'll come back eventually. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 10:08, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] How long...
...does it usually take for a new Wiki to be approved? Because my old clan wants to start a wiki for the clan and i said i'd do it for them. I can assure you that there will be many new users because of this, but i wanted to give them a timeframe of when it would be ready.
- Usually about a week or so. You can poke a member of the Community Team if they seem to have forgotten about your request. Also, if the wiki doesn't yet get approved, you can always request it from me off-Wikia and maybe we'll get your wiki started (and later on perhaps moved to Wikia). :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 16:04, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wiki
Hey Jack. I just wanted to ask, how did you create the site, http://wiki.jackphoenix.com? I'm asking because I didn't see it on the requests wikia, and was curious as to how it was formed. Brain40 19:20, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, it's not a Wikia wiki. It's on my personal host, jackphoenix.com. It's kinda expensive, too, 70€ per year, but I have nicely space and ability to install a few MediaWiki installations there, too. Feel free to join there and post a confirmation here (as we've had some troubles with vandalism). :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 20:39, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ah... Sorry. Well, anyway, thanks for the answer. Brain40 20:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, no problem. Feel free to ask, I won't bite. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 20:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why is Seattle EcoUrban Village Wikia page considered as Spam?
Hi Jack,
I noticed that you kept deleting my page then finally left a brief message as to why you were doing so. You said that the Seattle EcoUrban Village page is considered spam because it's not relevant to Wikia. But there is a list of cooperative residences page on Wikia, http://seattle.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_cooperative_residences, and Seattle EcoUrban Village definitely fits into that page.
I'm new to Wikia, obviously, so friendly guidance is appreciated. Thank you! —This unsigned comment is by SEV (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
- Hi, sorry if I was being a bit too harsh. :)
- Anyway, to begin, this site, www.wikia.com is the Central Wikia - a place too coordinate other Wikia wikis (see List of Wikia for all wikis that Wikia hosts). SeattleWiki is a separate Wikia - yes, your addition indeed fits there, just not here. Please ask me if you need more guidance, I'll be happy to help. :)
- Best regards, --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 14:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Good thing, I just wanted to fix a few small errors in the main page. Naturally, you may fully protect it in the future if it's being heavily vandalized. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 14:12, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Broken interwiki redirects
I'm guessing that it was you as an anon on MA/en that reverted the change to the talk page for this user. It's all nice and good to have a really large link on the page pointing them elsewhere... however, those interwiki links just don't work on Wikia, despite some of the Wikia staff using things that way (which isn't the smartest thing obviously...) since these broken redirects actually show up in the broken redirects page.
However, since you liked the big text, I've tried to make the link text really big in the middle of the page for you so that it's hard for people to miss. :) -- Sulfur 16:28, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, it was me. I thought I was logged in, but apparently I wasn't as I had cleared my cookiees recently and forgot to log in again. Thanks for that. :-) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 16:38, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Creating a Wiki
Hey! This is Spartytime from Halopedia. Me and Blemo are planning on creating a Ghost Recon wiki. We would like to know how to start it.Thanx.{{SUBST:Spartytime signature}} 12:54, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there. :)
- So, firstly you need to go to Requests Wiki at requests.wikia.com. Enter the preferred subdomain name to the box (for example, Halopedia's subdomain is halo) and click "Continue". Then it's pretty much self-explanatory. Make sure that you answer to all of the questions. If you do, it's more likely that the wiki will be accepted. The actual request form has good instructions about how to request a wiki, so just follow them. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 13:56, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] How to change the look and make more templates like stub.
Thats the question —This unsigned comment is by Strongholdman (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
Well, you can change the site look by editing the file MediaWiki:Common.css on your wiki to change some things for all users. Have a look at Wookieepedia's Common.css or Wookieepedia's Monobook.css (which is deprecated, better to use Common.css now). They have changed the icon next to your name on Wookieepedia, added background and such - there are many things you can do with CSS tricks! :)
For stubs, I like to keep things simple, so have a look at WarWiki's stub template. It's relatively simple, the "expand this" link works everywhere and the template places any page with it to the category Stubs. Really simple and effective.
Anyway, I hope these help you a little and feel free to ask away if you have further questions, I'll be happy to help you. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 09:55, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] I know
You said in my wikia request that a Yugioh wikia already exists. I am aware of this, but my wikia will be completely different. It's o.k. to have more than one wikia on the same topic. Example: there are MANY different Nintendo wikias. Thanks.
[edit] Thanks
Thanks:) Peace:)--Sir James Paul 17:11, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Labeled Section Transclusion Feature
Hi Jack
I just wanted to ask if you knew anything about a plan to have Labeled Section Transclusion on wikia. I just think this would greatly complement the new DPL. Thanks !
--Thaumasnot 15:45, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi there.
I dunno about this feature, though it seems like somehing that could be useful. In any case, I'll ask Datrio about this. :) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 15:49, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mailing list
What's the mailing list for?And the password is on my talk page, should I remove it or is it not a big deal?Spartytime from Halopedia.
- The mailing list is another way of communication for your community if they want to use it. For most Wikia communities, the mailing lists are not used but they're available, as an option. However, regarding passwords, it is a password just like all other passwords, meaning that you do not give it out to anybody! Always, always remember to keep your passwords to yourself! It wouldn't be really nice if a vandal found out your password, vandalized under your account and then you would get blocked for it, or would it? --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 16:36, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Swedish Star Wars Fanon Wiki
Hello, Jack Phoenix. You might know who I am from the Star Wars Fanon wiki. Anyway, I have always wanted to start a swedish version of SWF but I couldn't find the place where to request wikias in swedish (I found several languages, except swedish). I've been on almost every swedish wiki I could find to ask for help, but they were all abandoned (almost all). I then decided to ask an admin here instead and the first admin i recognized was you! My question is; how do I start a swedish version of SWF?! BTW, I just saw on your user page here that you talk swedish. Hur mycket svenska kan du? N@M3Le$$ 17:01, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I can not edit my request page!
I tried to edit it, realizing that I forgot to put in information, but whenever I try to, it just reverts back to its previous form! What can I do to rectify this? —This unsigned comment is by VDOgamez (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
- It's this, right? Anyway, I tested it and it works for me, the page is saved correctly. You could try to de-select
[x] use in-page editorfrom Special:Preferences, the [editing] tab. Other than that, I don't know what would be causing it, sorry. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 21:28, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The new skin
I think it is very dumb to make the new stupid skins the default for everybody without any way to change it!
I have a Hebrew wiki, and everything in the page looks bad with these new "good" skins. I want you to please make a way to change the default skin for anonimous people!
And if you won't do that, why won't you do it for whoever asks for that with a good reason (like me)? It's impossible!!!
Is there any bypass for this stupid thing?
If you won't even do what I asked, can't you put back the link at the top-right corner tht makes it monobook?
My HEBREW computer wiki!!! (which now looks bad thanks to the wikia team...)
--אורי הולנדר, he.computers admin
- Well, logged-in users can change their skin from Special:Preferences. There are lots of different skins available, like one modeled after Wookieepedia, another based on Memory Alpha's etc. and of course, the classical Monobook skin.
- Monobook unfortunately is not an option for the default skin, but you can choose between the lighter Smoke (default skin) or the darker Slate. If you want to change your wiki's default skin to Slate, ask a member of the Community Team to do it.
- I don't know about the link (switch back to Monobook in the upper right corner), but it should be there.
- Also, please read the article on ownership. Although you requested the wiki to be created, you don't own it: it's owned by its community. Also, I am not Wikia staff, and even the Community Team really can't do much to the new skins. It was decided by the higher-ups, not by me or by Community Team. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 14:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- I know logged-in users can change their skin, but my problem is with the anonimous ones.
- The link to switch to monobook doesn't exist where it's supposed to be, so I would like to know how to solve this problem. --אורי הולנדר
- RTL wikis are not supposed to be included in the new skin at this time because we won't do the RTL new skin template until we finalize it with v2. I've asked the guys to look at your wiki to make sure it's not using the new skin. Johnq

[edit] Wiki header templates
Hi Jack. You're welcome to change Template:New wiki header and Template:New wiki to move the logo down so you don't need to keep changing them manually for the newly made wikis. Angela
(talk) 00:54, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Angela, thanks for your message. I added the logo URL to Template:New wiki, though Template:New wiki header has it still. So, it has to be manually removed, unless someone comes up with a better solution. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 10:43, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Couldn't it be removed from Template:New wiki header though? Angela

- Couldn't it be removed from Template:New wiki header though? Angela
- I fully agree. :-) Just didn't do it since I thought it could cause some problems (since after removing it, {{{2}}} becomes {{{1}}}). --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 19:23, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Swfanon op access
Cobracommander came on and you weren't there, so rather than bringing in LeninReborn, I opened up a new server tab and changed my nick to Jack_Phoenix and messed with him a bit... so GHe removed my access because of that, as well as partially because of excessive oppage... and oh crap, cobracommander just said he "wishes vic was here," so I'm resisting the urge so I don't get banned... so I would appreciate if you would tell him you're fine with me impersonating you for five minutes to screw around with him and/or give meh mah oppage back plaz... danke... =D --NOTASTAFF GPT(talk)(eating) 02:21, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I suggest taking this up with Vic, he know who to give or not to give access. I don't usually add people to the access list. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 08:18, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not okay with imposter - on Wikia or on IRC channels. I suggest forwarding access requests to Squishy Vic as he usually decides on those. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 21:57, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
