[edit] how to add pages

How do you create a new page on Uncyclopedia? When I search for a word and no such page exists, I am not given the option to create it. What should I do? graphtheorist@gmail.com, aka Oatmealcookiemon

[edit] Very Urgent Question

Dear Angela/Jason,

I'm David Feng and I have wikimac.wikicities.com. A few minutes ago I went to the Wikicity G. Knowledge and saw they had their subtitles (e.g. "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia") under the titles, so I copied the code and placed it on WikiMac.

Then all hell essentially broke loose. I can now no longer access wikimac.wikicities.com as far I as can try. I tried to go back and to refix the monobook.css modification (which was what I did -- I guess -- to mess it up). Nothing worked. wikimac.wikicities.com still works via ping, but the site is dead.

I think the English language fails in my desparation at this moment, it is 1:30 AM and I seriously doubt if I could get a peaceful night. Your help in any form would be appreciated in full.

Yours truly sincerely, David Feng

[edit] bureaucrat status lost

Hi Jason,

David from WikiMac here. I've lost the bureaucrat status or at least I can no longer delete, protect, etc... pages, and I'd like to request bureaucrat status additionally for zh.wikimac as well as wikimac (English).

Thanks! --DavidFeng 03:35, 14 Dec 2004 (PST)

[edit] Interlanguage error on WikiMac

Sincere apologies for un-Macintosh-like behaviour (i.e. world domination) on your talk page (given that the previous two requests also came from this same David Feng.

Onwards -- there is a problem. The only site that's not affected is zh.mac.wikicities. If I add [[en:whatever]] (or any language code), there's a link in "languages". But on other versions of WikiMac, there's a bug. It's impossible on any other non-ZH wiki to create an English link that would go on "languages" (on the left sidebar in Monobook view), and links to other languages on the English edition (mac.wikicities) turn out to be a red link at the bottom of the page.

BTW, would it also be OK to create en.mac.wikicities and then redirect that to mac.wikicities?

Thanks, and apologies for dominating your talk page,

--DavidFeng 08:43, 4 Feb 2005 (PST)

No problem (regarding the domination). I just forgot to add the EN links to the interlanguage links settings. I just added the EN links. Let me know if you have any more trouble
Also, I've set up en.mac.wikicities.com to work as you requested. Jasonr 12:15, 4 Feb 2005 (PST)
Thanks Jason. Another (minor) problem: look at the bottom of mac.wikicities -- the DE, FR, IT and ES links aren't in the lang. navbar yet. If you could fix that i'td be great. Also if you could add en.wikimac and redirect that to mac.wikicities, that would also be great. Thanks again. :) --DavidFeng 17:48, 4 Feb 2005 (PST)
Ouch that one was tricky... I spent a while looking at it, but it turned out to be a very simple fix... I just had to change the page, and save it. So, I would assume that other pages that have had the interlanguage links on them since before I got them set up correctly will also have this problem. Just editing the page fixed it for me (I'm not sure if an edit marked as "minor" would have the same effect). en.wikimac is also set up now. Jasonr 22:28, 4 Feb 2005 (PST)
Same thing with images that don't exist (as in, if you're importing a page before the images for that page), you have to add some kind of mark to the page to get it to save as an edit (minors count) so that the page will be re-rendered. Shame there's no way to do that by clicking a button or something. --Me at work 22:41, 4 Feb 2005 (PST)

[edit] Working on Global User message notification

I'm working on global user message notifications... This is a test.

[edit] Memory Alpha

Hi Jason, this is Florian from Memory Alpha. You managed to backup the english and dutch Memory Alpha, how long will it take to bring the german Memory Alpha back online? Or is it lost forever? -- Florian - Talk 16:24, 23 Feb 2005 (GMT)

This is working again now. Sorry for the delay. Angela 18:27, 23 Feb 2005 (GMT)

[edit] {SITENAME}

Hi Jason.

First of all, thanks for dealing with the technical side of setting of language websites for Miqra, and fixing the interlanguage links!

(Regarding the links, I'm not sure why but it still doesn't seem to work in Norwegian. Take a look.)

I have two other separate language questions; I decided to ask you about them on here on the talk page because they may be of importance to many projects.

1. Is there a way to set things up so that a person only has to log in once for all of the languages within a particular project?

This should already be the case. You only need to log in once to edit any Wikicity. Angela 19:10, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)
You are right, it is working now. Thanks.

2. I saw that the "systems announcements" here uses what seesm to be a plugin template called SITENAME (which is a very good idea so that they can be easily reused in a number of different projects for each language). I couldn't find the template, though. If it would be of help, I could supply the sitename using characters from the various languages.

Sitename needs to be set in localsettings.php, which is not available via the wiki. If you let me or Jason know what you would like the sitename (and also the project namespace) to be, then we can change that on the server. Angela 19:10, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)
In Hebrew, it should be the following four letters: <מקר?>. In French and nn I think "Miqra" is probably fine, but I'll check.

I noticed that the Hebrew site was using an English version of "system announcements", then one taken from Hebrew Wikipedia, and now for some reason it is back to the English version. Not knowing the alphabet it might be hard for you to replace "Wikipedia" (in Hebrew) with SITENAME. I could supply the relevant texts if that would be any help.Zabek 13:57, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)

This could be because you have English set in your preferences. Does it work if you change that to Hebrew? Angela 19:10, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)
No, I knew that couldn't be it because the tabs are in English too. I checked to make sure, and the "sytem messages" are all English-version too.Zabek 20:44, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)
I've replied at User talk:Zabek, but I couldn't change the sitename to מקר?, so I'll leave that to Jason to answer. It came out as ???? when I saved the localsettings.php file. Angela 04:45, 12 Mar 2005 (GMT)

[edit] MediaWiki farm

Hi Jason. We talked on irc about the wikimedia-farm-extention, said you'll ask to company. Thank you very much. I hope that we may use it and best regards to all. MattisManzel 15:11, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)

There isn't an extension as such, and what we do is basically the same as the Wikimedia sites, other than also using single login. This is documented at wikidev. Angela 19:10, 8 Mar 2005 (GMT)

[edit] Google Search

Hi,

I have added a Google search box to my Wiki after Angela gave me the code. I am using 1.4 beta-6. I have added it to monobook.php which is fine, but the length of the Google section extends right across the page. I want it to be the same width as the navigation, search and toolbox section. I think I should be adding it to the code that controls the left hand side panel of each page, the quickbar I think its called?!?

Where do I find that code? And where should I add the Google link so that the text box and Google image appear after the search section and before the toolbox section along the left of the page?

Thanks in advance... Alison

PS. Just noticed how a table of contents is created when new edits are added. Is this an automatic feature or how did you create that?

Thanks for your previous reply, its working perfectly now. So what about the table of contents. I think its a really neat little function.

The TOC is added automatically when you have more than three headers. To force it when you have less headers, use type __TOC__ or __FORCETOC__ into the wiki page. To remove it, use __NOTOC__. Angela 15:45, 17 Mar 2005 (EST)

[edit] Image Upload

[edit] NUMBEROFARTICLES

Hello Jason/Angela! I am Yanus, founder of conworld wikicity, and I've modified Main Page as to add number of articles currently in wiki (just like in wikipedia) using the [[Special:Statistics|{{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}]], but it showed -1 article. I thought that I've done mistake in coding, but Statistics special page sounds that we have 16 pages total, and '(sic!) meaningful articles. Is it some glitch or that's me? Sincerely, Yanus 07:03, 23 Mar 2005 (EST)

This is a known bug which is also affecting Los Angeles and others. You might find the WikiStats more reliable than the Special:Statistics page. Angela 00:52, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
Or at least, you might if they were updated . . . --GreenReaper(talk) 05:46, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
Yes, dnd: is suffering from it as well. Is there something we can do about it, or just have to use the painfully-nonupdated WikiStats page? (Which, mind you, doesn't even realize dnd: exists). →mathx314(talk)(email) 20:54, 3 Apr 2005 (EDT)

[edit] 1.4rc to 1.4

Tell me how the transition goes (stable, bumpy, etc), because now that I'm pretty much administrator (that's what happens when you show someone you actually know how to use the software, sigh) of MozWiki, I'll need to know that.

Also, any tips on how to setup the Interwiki map script (because I can't seem to find the documentation on meta, or I couldn't a while back) would be appreciated. It seemed to use the c2 wiki's interwiki map (at least, it did back when i saw the bots script, can't find where it went in the structure now). And no, I don't intend to move my stuff there, or at least most of it. It's just another part of the wikiwikiworld. --Tom talk/Bliki 12:40, 29 Mar 2005 (EST)

[edit] Palk Bay

Hello Mr.Jason

I have created the 'palkbay.wikicities' site on 3 April 2005. I need your help in 2 issues:

1. I would like to upload .pdf (adobe acrobat) and zip files in the site. I am unable to do do it.

2. I would like to change the wikicities logo to our own logo. Inspite of going through the tutorial, I was unable to figure out the method.

Your help will will be deeply appreciated.

Thanking you

Yours Sincerely

Ramesh Radhakrishnan

yadhi65@yahoo.co.in

Hi Jason. I moved the above comment from your user page. I don't mind pdf being enabled, but zip could be dangerous. I'll answer Ramesh's other question on his talk page. Angela 08:36, 4 Apr 2005 (EDT)

[edit] Site Validation

Any possibility of getting Bug 99 fixed? I know you're working hard on bug 105, but this seems to be one of the easier bugfixes to make (just add a </label>). --Tom talk/Bliki 13:35, 12 Apr 2005 (EDT)

[edit] Flash (SWF) Files to a Wikicity?

Hi, Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but: Is it possible to upload Flash files to a WikiCities site? This page (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Images_and_other_uploaded_files#Miscellaneous) says it's possible to upload other types of files using altering the LocalSettings.php (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Images_and_other_uploaded_files#Miscellaneous). Is it possible to do that for a WikiCity? Thanks in advance, -:)Ben Pfwebadmin 19:56, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikicities logo

Hi Jason,

what license is the logo under? I would like to use the image in the hungarian Wikipedia, but hungarian law doesn't know fair use, so images can only be used with permission. Could you please place it under a free license (or at least one that allows its use in Wikipedia)?

Thanks, --hu:Tgr (152.66.212.151 20:53, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC))

[edit] interlanguage for conlang(s)

I am interested in addng interlanguage support to the conlang wikicity... particularly I am interested in adding interlanguage support for any variety of new languages, not just Mediawiki supported languages.

How should I proceed?

[edit] sysop without rights?

Hi Jason! Angela gave me and Jonnyisback sysop-rights some days ago, but for some reason I don't have any additional rights, while Jonnyisback can delete and lock pages, edit locked pages...

Could you please check this? Thanks! -- FProg (Talk) 16:37, 1 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Could you try again now. You're definitely listed at an admin at [1]. Angela (talk) 21:26, 3 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Request interlanguage support for Philosophy

Hello, Jason. After a brief discussion with Robert Harrison (next to me co-founder), we have decided that it would be wise to add multiple languages (i.e. interlanguage support) to our side. Back at the start of our wikicity I spoke to Angela where she told me that I should address you once I (we) made up my (our) mind(s). Well, we have, so can you tell me how to procede (or simply add it and give me a sign about accomplishment)? I'd appreciate it, so I could tell our audience (I direct a radio show on philosophy in Dijon) next week about our Wiki (and that it is in French too). Thanks in advance. [edit] CSS and ads for non-standard browsers

I can' t log in to bugzilla right now, but in case I forget when I'm home, I wanted to note that Wikicities is painfully broken on Web TV. It's all I have access to at the moment. Wikicities is worse than Wikipedia since the Google ads take up a third of the page and for some reason, the middle third is blank, leaving all content on one third of the screen. The huge font size, which I'm unable to adjust means very little text appears on a screen (around 50 words). I'm guessing the same is true for anyone trying to browse it on a mobile device. Would detecting the browser and removing ads for some of them be easy? If not, new skin, which is automatically applied for those browsers, would be useful. User:Angela

[edit] Making someone a SysOp

Hey, I'm the creator of a this Wiki: http://snicket.wikicities.com/wiki/ and I'm trying to make Celestianpower a SysOp, but it says I can't because I'M not a SysOp, even though I AM. I'm logged in an everything. Please help. Thanks.--Bottles98 21:24, 14 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I made you a "bureaucrat" on the wiki, so you should be able to make people sysops now. Sorry for the trouble. -- Jasonr 05:06, 15 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for at least trying to help, but I still get the same error.
"The action you have requested can only be performed by users with 'sysop' status."
Any idea on what to try next? --Bottles98 20:10, 15 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Hmm. I just checked my work, and I put a space in a database field that isn't in the other fields. That may have stopped it from working. Give it another try and let me know. If it still doesn't work, can you paste the URL that gives the error message?

[edit] Uploading insulin logs

Hi Jason -- we haven't spoken before, I'm Steve, admin for Diabetes in Pets. Possibly unusual request here -- many of our users keep their insulin logs in Excel format, and are far too computer-illiterate to consider converting them to anything else. I would hesitate to even ask many of them to export to .csv format, given all the choices that entails. Yet the wiki would benefit tremendously from a database of case histories, and that includes insulin logs.

The obvious solution is to ask people to fill in a preformatted (macro-free) Excel sheet and then upload it, or to upload their own macro free sheets. (Glucose meters can automatically upload to CSV format too.) But Excel sheets are not permitted, both on non-free grounds and on hazardous grounds (macro viruses). So what do you suggest instead?

Thanks, Steve w:c:petdiabetes:User talk:Steve and Jock

[edit] dvipng: command not found

Getting an error while editing math on a page on physics.wikicities.com : "dvipng reported a failure, namely: /home/wikicities/wiki/extensions/wikitex/wikitex.sh: line 1: dvipng: command not found".

Brockill 18:07, 30 Nov 2005 (UTC)

And a demonstration of the problem: here
Brockill 14:22, 1 Dec 2005 (UTC)
For whatever reason, things now look better (perhaps dvipng was on some unmounted volume before?) but the Latex rendering is still messed up - see the link above. It seems that the whitespace after the </math> tag is not getting removed (it does in wikipedia).
Brockill 13:16, 2 Dec 2005 (UTC)
I've had a missing dvipng as well. It seems to break a lot during preview but I've never had it actually error out on an actual page view. -- Jeffoh (talk) 20:44, 2 Dec 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry.

I'm sorry for asking you this if it sounds dumb, but you know the Megaman Wiki well you should your an admin there. Um, I'm an admin as well. Well, the most active admin there left and now I'm stuck with an inactive wiki, so should I just let it fall apart since well I can't do much there since I'm just a Bureaucrat there and I can't make much changes, so you get the idea right? Bassium!

[edit] Main page hit count for Uncyclopedia

Hello, it's me again, the Uncyc crazy who bothered you on IRC a while back. Our main page hit counter is still missing about 540,000 hits or so (off the cuff estimate) from when one of our admins deleted the main page. If you could maybe look into that if it's fixable, that would be fantasmic...also, umm, I need those TPS reports by Friday, and I'm gonna have to ask you to come in Saturday too. That would be greaaaat. --Rcmurphy 02:43, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC) (I don't even like that movie)

[edit] English Memory Alpha Has White Background

There seems to be a problem with the background to the English Memory Alpha. Myself and several other users see a white background, not the article text background, but the one behind the logo and sidebars. The monobook has been edited several times (and reverted back), so it doesn't seem to be the problem. The background that Memory Alpha uses is located here. I was under the impression that as a Wikicities developer, you could perhaps look into it and figure out what the problem is. I have very little knowledge on these matters, and would not be able to report this as a bug if necessary.--Tim Thomason 07:22, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Never mind, that was somehow fixed (on my browser at least), about 3 minutes ago by Cid Highwind. Sorry to bother you, it was kind of bothersome after a few hours.--Tim Thomason 09:59, 15 Dec 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Changing navigation bar

Hi, Jason: My name's Danny, I'm one of the admins on Muppet Wiki. Is there a way I can add "Category index" to the navigation box? A few users have asked me about it; it would a really helpful navigation tool. Please let me know if that's possible. Thank you! -- Toughpigs 05:21, 17 Dec 2005 (UTC)

I can manually add items to the config. I'm planning an upgrade very soon (I'm hoping for next week) that will allow you to easily add things to the sidebar on your own. I've added the link. Let me know whether or not it looks th way you want it. -- Jasonr 20:09, 17 Dec 2005 (UTC)
That's perfect. Thank you very much! -- Toughpigs 21:10, 17 Dec 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Section Editting

I got a puzzling problem with doing section edits on the San Francisco Wiki. Near as I can tell, clicking on the 'Edit' should also allow editing of the section below the 'Edit'. However, with the San Francisco Wiki, I'm often being given the section above instead. This is particularly a nuisance if the section to be edited is the last one on the page, in which case section editting is effectively blocked. Any idea what is going on?? --Kirk 22:48, 22 Dec 2005 (UTC)

I'm noticing the same thing, and I think it's system wide. May be a setting in the latest version. Chadlupkes 22:57, 22 Dec 2005 (UTC)
Hmm. Very odd. I'll look into this. -- Jasonr 17:49, 23 Dec 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Some settings ignored?

Hi, Jason. I've uploaded MediaWiki:Favicon.ico a couple of days ago to Clean City, but still, it doesn't appear in the browser.

The favicon is displaying on my browser... What browser are you using? -- Jasonr 16:41, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)
I'm using Opera 8.5. Favicons of other sites are properly shown. -- zooloo 23:34, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Sidebar also seems to be ignored. What am I doing wrong? -- zooloo 22:32, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Sidebar is ignored because we are still running a version of the software that does not include support for the sidebar. We'll be upgrading soon. -- Jasonr 16:38, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)
I see. Thanks.

(later:) Hmm, right now the body background-color is missing, too. This probably isn't a browser cache issue, because I have to hard-reload at least one page on each slight design change anyway, i. e. currently several times a day. I'd appreciate every hint. -- zooloo 08:06, 2 Jan 2006 (UTC)

I'll have to look into that. -- Jasonr 16:38, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)
Confusingly, this issue has disappeared now. However, it was not the first time a change of the body background caused the latter to be plainly white for hours, regardless of any browser cache refreshes. -- zooloo 23:34, 3 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Hi Jasonr, I'm the founder of SPSS Wiki. Until a few days ago the style of the main page looked great, but for some reason it now ignores the

command at the top of the page.

Any Ideas? Cheers, --Zoole 01:49, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Zoole

This looks like a problem that was caused by our upgrade to version 1.5 of the software. Don't change anything. I'll be looking at the problem today, and (hopefully) taking care of it. -- Jasonr 18:39, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Jason, Any progress? I note that you have been into SPSS Wiki trying some things... Cheers, --Zoole 21:42, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Uncyclopedia custom namespaces and DynamicPageList

Hi! Looks like the inputbox extension is working well, thanks. Good to finally see MW1.5 up and running.

As for the custom namespaces, looks like the most wanted namespaces are:

  • Wilde:
  • UnNews:
  • Undictionary:
  • Game:
  • Babel:

Of these, all but the last two already have content which would need to be moved from existing 'fake namespace' pages.

Thanks. --carlb 04:17, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DPL

Would you please install one of the DynamicPageList extensions on the Uncyclopedia wiki? I think these had been requested before, but were put on 'hold' until the MW1.5 upgrade was complete? Thanks! --carlb 12:46, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A few more noob admin questions

Hi Jason,

yay, the sidebar works! Thanks for updating - I suppose it has been quite a lot of work.

Alas, I have some more questions, too:

  1. I'm afraid, the answer to this first one is "no": The url prefix of Clean City is just "clean", which is fine although being different from "Clean City", because it's the name of the language. However, the Project: namespace is called "Clean_Wiki" which is yet another phrase. This seems unnecessarily complicated. Is it possible to make the Project: namespace refer to either Clean: or CleanCity:?
  2. Also likely to be confusing to new Clean Citizens: even though the search logo is customized, a user clicking at it is directed to www.wikicities.com. Where can I edit the link destination? (It should be either Category:Browse or Special:Allpages)
  3. How to include the content of Mediawiki:News_box into a page? I have disabled the news box in the sidebar for optical clarity reasons but would like to provide the message, amongst other information about wikicities, at w:c:Clean:Project:About.
  4. There seems to be a problem with shared templates - see w:c:Clean:User:Zooloo. Instead of the content indicated by the second language tag, the first is doubled.
  5. I have tried to add "hide|show my own edits" to w:c:Clean:Special:Recentchanges, since it would be very convenient. Unfortunately, the actual "hide|show" link is still missing. Could you point me to the right place to fix that, please?

Thank you in advance for any help - zooloo 04:08, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Point 5. work now - thanks! I wonder if you have answered to me already, but by email rather than here. Unfortunately, all mails I should have recieved (at my Clean City admin address) between Jan 13th and Feb 7th, were deleted. Though I hope, you didn't answer at all yet. -zooloo 06:20, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stats page

Hi Jason: Muppet Wiki's stats page still isn't working. I've asked you and Angela about it a bunch of times. Can you let me know what the problem is? I'd really like to have a functioning stats page. -- Danny Toughpigs 01:02, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Main page corrupt at shopping

The templates for the main page at shopping.wikicities.com have stopped working. The main text is still there, but the box structure has disappeared and template parameters are appearing as text. Seahen 18:38, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

That is because the interwiki template Template:MainStyle1 stopped working on your wiki (or was just removed?). I copied the code manually for you. Should be ok now? Splarka 23:38, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stats

I was wondering when wikistats where going to be updated. Memory Alpha's hasn't been updated since November 14, and Angela told us about a month ago that they were going to be updated in the near future. Thanks. Jaz talk | novels 04:45, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] désencyclopédie

I'm having un problème with désencyclopédie:

It seems that, even when in désencyclopédie itself, the désencyclopédie: prefix (with the accents) is being treated as an interwiki link, rendering any page starting with désencyclopédie: inaccessible. (The content of désencyclopédie: [with the accents], a pseudo-namespace, was the text of all pages redirected from the nominal project: namespace desencylopedie: [without the accents]. This would include items such as the forum and voting pages).

This problem had occured once before during the MW1.5 upgrades, but was fixed; it was working properly yesterday, but today non... ca ne fonctionne pas de tout. :(

Also, would it be possible to add the extension algorithms, such as the random selection algorithm, to this wiki? These exist in the English-language Uncyclopedia but not in the French dÉsencyclopédie. Thanks. --carlb 15:16, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Jason: I fixed the interwiki problem by removing it from the interwiki table on desencyclopedie, but it needs to be removed from whatever generates the table or it'll just break again later. Zwitter
Thanks for reporting this. It turns out that the problem was affecting many wikis. I ad updated the interwiki table directly rather than using my interwiki update script, and it left a few entries in there that should not have been -- Jasonr 20:54, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you again! --Confusius 15:47, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure if this is related, but the tooltips in the Désencylopédie pseudo-namespace are in spanish. (My preference are set to french, and I see french tooltips in the article namespace and every other namespace I checked.) --Confusius 15:02, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
(Problem went away.) --Confusius 15:57, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problems to import

As I told you at IRC, I'm not succeding to import the spanish content from uncyclopedia to Inciclopedia. I think we have more than 300 pages to import. Copy-pasting would be an endless job. Thanks.--Rataube 10:40, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

We copy-pasted them anyway.--Rataube 23:45, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Namespace changes

Hi Jason, there's a request on my talk page for some namespace changes/addition for w:c:Pomorze. could you have a look? Thanks -- 14:17, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minor action=create bug

Hi Jason,
I've just found a bug in my actionCreate code: if a prefix is defined and the user submits an empty title, the code doesn't properly fail. I've uploaded a fixed version to meta; only the actionCreate() function has been changed. Thought I should let you know. --Algorithm 12:47, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Broken Redirects

Our broken redirects have had 5 entries that I have not been able to remove since the creation of UnNews: as an actual namespace. There were around 70 or so but deleting the redirects or deleting/restoring the page would fix them. The problem with these 5 is the redirect either 1) does not exist or 2) is exactly the same name as the page being redirected to (but now in a different namespace). The offenders are:

  • 1. Unnews:Irish Republican Army to Ascend into Heaven (Edit) → UnNews:Irish Republican Army to ascend into Heaven
  • 2. UnNews: British army "Not Gay" accusation denied by the Home Office (Edit) → UnNews: British army "Not Gay" accusation denied by the Home Office
  • 3. UnNews: Jesus 10 Prostitutes Found Dead In Hotel Room (Edit) → UnNews: Jesus And 10 Prostitutes Found Dead In Hotel Room
  • 4. UnNews: Mali announces re-christening plans (Edit) → UnNews:Mali announces re-christening plans
  • 5. UnNews: 2006 brought in for questioning (Edit) → UnNews:2006 brought in for questioning

Might need to be fix-ed in the database? Splarka 05:06, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikistatistics

Hey Jason, here yo go with some source code examples on how i created [2]. Greetings, Mutante 11:12, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

We made a second attempt, taking the hostlist from

http://www.wikia.com/wikistats/EN/Sitemap.htm to generate a self-updating statistics at http://s23.org/wikistats/wikia_html.php However, if you scroll down to the last three entries, you see, there is a problem. [edit] Shared templates

A screenshot of w:c:Novelas:User:Kernigh.
A screenshot of w:c:Novelas:User:Kernigh.

Recently I set up a Template:User Kernigh Top as a shared template so I could include it on my various Wikicities user pages using {{Wikicities:User Kernigh Top}}.

I implemented this at w:c:Gameinfo:User:Kernigh and w:c:Novelas:User:Kernigh. It worked fine at Gameinfo, but at Novelas there were some problems:

  • The Google ads moved from their spot at the right of the page, and covered the right side of my user page.
  • Part of the template was missing. "Contributions" is after the template, and should be outside the box and to the left. The box should have Most-Edited Wikicities, Other Wikicities, and IRC sections in it, like you see at User:Kernigh at this wiki.

I had a chat with User:Sannse at #wikicities at irc.freenode.net. I tried to purge the pages (action=purge) but that did not help. Sannse suggested that I contact you.

So why does w:c:Gameinfo:User:Kernigh work fine, but w:c:Novelas:User:Kernigh does not? --Kernigh 23:12, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

This is broken on all Wikia. The .svg image on the uncyclopedia:fr:vidange article doesn't work at all, and the one on uncyclopedia:fr:lapin rose only works partially. The sheep on uncyclopedia:fr:mouton is nothing more than a silhouette now. Looks like gradient fill is broken, odd as on Wikipédia the same graphics work fine (the "lapin rose" article originated there as wikipedia:fr:lapin du métro parisien. --carlb 01:22, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] #wikia response delays

Hi Jason,

Phroziac redirected me to regarding #wikia. My concern:

GChriss: perhaps "Please wait for a reply, we are sometimes wandering" could be made more visible?

GChriss: under the main link on www.wikia.com

GChriss: the problem is that it is advertised as "live chat and support", but it isn't always "live" in the way people expect

GChriss: i have seen a number of people confused/dissapointed after a minute or two of no response. i was thinking of changing irc.wikia.com directly to include: "when you connect, please be patient. we may take a few minutes to respond"

Thanks, GChriss 02:08, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiasari

I'm wondering if the beta software known as Wikiasari is archived somewhere, and the associated database? If so, I would like to request that a copy be maintained until the fate of the Search Wikia is resolved once and for all. Also, since the Wikiasari software was supposed to be available under GPL, I wonder if you might consider sending me a copy?

Also, I just mentioned this at upgrade bugs, but while I'm on the subject of the Search Wikia, the database dumps are not working, for any of the Wikia. I would like to be able to download a dump of the Search Wikia since its continued existence is in jeopardy. Can this be arranged?

Thank you. Charm 15:21, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Interwiki links

Hello We are wondering if it would be possible to add soem interwiki records into our sql database, so we could provide our wiki with beautiful interwiki links between other Uncyclopedia-like wikis just as on Uncyclopedia itself? Yours Sincerely Sos of Nonsensopedia --Sos 22:34, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Of course! Actually, I didn't even realize that you didn't have the interwiki links set up already. I've added them all now. Please let me know if you have any more trouble with it. -- Jasonr 13:29, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I seem to be able to link from en: fr: and pl: to other-language uncyclopediae (except zh -> zh.uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1 is still missing). I can't seem to link back from ca: es: it: or ru: though... seems like the language interwiki link tables exist on some uncyclopedias and not others? (This is noticeable on pages like uncyclopedia:fr:wikipédia as most of these projects, as wiki parodies, have something to say about the main Wikipedia itself. The bug: link (and the bugs.wikia.com URLs) don't work either. --carlb 14:01, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article semi-protection

I've noticed on Wikia that semi-protection blocks only anonymous edits, but allows any registered user to do so. On Wikipedia, edits by very new users (something like 4 days or less) are also blocked, which makes sense given how easy it is for vandals to register. Could this be enabled for Wikia? Thanks. RMF 00:24, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Namespace

Can you change, please, three namespaces in w:c:pomorze:? The namespaces to change are: dyskusja - change to parler-vous, szablon - change to format and kategoria - change to categoìre. Thanks! Regards. Michał 18:34, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Database download XML dumps still 404

Data download for the text of all individual Wikia appears to still be broken (dbdumps.html shows a list of various zero-byte files, all of which are error404 once selected). The bugzilla bug:291 interwiki link also appears to be 404 (still on old URL http://www.wikia.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=291 instead of the more recent http://bugs.wikia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=291 ) and the robots.txt file is giving permission-type errors (403) again on uncyclopédia. --carlb 04:00, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Javascript Usage

I'm trying to implement a dice-rolling ability into the d20NPCs wiki, and through the live chat, found the "MediaWiki:Common.js" file for that wiki to put the functions into, but now to create a template that actually call the functions, I'm running into a block. I found that the <a> tag is not translating to a link, but rather just text, so I'm trying a <span> tag, but even if I put an "onClick" attribute in that tag, the engine strips it off when the page is rendered (the code is still there if I go back to edit it, but the rendered wikitext is missing that attribute). Is there another way to call javascript that has been defined, or enable the use of the "onClick" and other javascript event handlers? Thanks much!

Or, I do have the process created as an extension (so drops in the <a> tag using onClick via extension, so bypasses both these filtering issues), if you'd be willing to apply that to our wiki.

--MidnightLightning 16:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Scratch all that; I did manage to get it to work through some intense javascript help and using the Monobook.js special page. --MidnightLightning 21:23, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Uncyclopedia:Game:Craps rolls dice without any javascript by using the random choose/option extension algorithm. As an example, one can roll 1d6: 3 using <choose><option>1</option><option>2</option><option>3</option><option>4</option><option>5</option><option>6</option></choose> . --carlb 17:44, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Additional button on usermassage

Hey. When I see massage you have new massages and link diff to penultimate revision, link shows only last change, but often happens that, when I was absent, there was more than one change or somebody rewrites his earlier massage. It's possible in future MediaWiki relases to add a additional link on ussermassage, simple leading to talk history? Szoferka 02:02, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I would request that at [3], they are the ones that develop the software.--Rataube 23:42, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] King In Yellow

Hello, Jason. Although this IP address doesn't really convey identity that well, I'm the user commonly known as "King In Yellow" on Uncyclopedia. I understand that RCMurphy (and possibly Todd Lyons as well) has contacted you on IRC regarding my dilemma of not being able to access my profile. Apparently, I requested a new password to be emailed to me after I forgot mine (I never really logged out, and the last time I got autologged I couldn't remember my password!), and no email existed in my profile (although I swear I set one back last fall...) Now I'm out in the cold so to speak. RC suggested that I contact you directly, as you wanted to know what time zone I post from (U.S. Eastern Standard.) Also, I post from two IP's - this one is my work one. If there's anything we can do to reinstate access to my profile, I'd be much in your debt. Also, should you wish, I can provide you with an email address. As I no longer have a watchlist, I'll periodically check back here for replies. Thanks in advance! --169.200.185.24 14:07, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Forum Namespace in Memory Alpha

Hi,

Florian K. did request the addition of the Forum namespace to Memory Alpha (de) a few weeks ago. We suggested the creation in the english version as well, though there are only few comments it is only logical to create them in there too. Our Ten Forward is too often victim of vandals and too long to load. Would you please create the namespace #100 Forum and #101 Forum talk there so we can start to move topics over the weekend? -- Kobi 18:13, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Uncyclopedia interlanguage links

The following (new) interlanguage links are missing from all Uncyclopedia-related wikis:

zh:http://zh.uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1
zh-tw:http://zh.uncyclopedia.info/wiki/$1
meta:http://chronarion.org/unmeta/index.php?title=$1

The old de: link has uncyclopedia.de/wiki2 so is not going to work now that the wiki has moved. Fi: is also a mess. The remaining interlanguage links appear to be usable from en: es: fr: he: pl: ru: but do not work from German (de:) Italian (it:) el: ca: la: or from any of the wikia listed above:

en:http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/$1
es:http://inciclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1
fr:http://desencyclopedie.com/wiki/$1
he:http://eincyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1
pl:http://nonsensopedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1

el:http://anegkyklopaideia.wikia.com/wiki/$1
it:http://nonciclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1
la:http://uncapedia.wikia.com/wiki/$1

Could you please add an interlanguage map to de.uncyclopedia.wikia.com or install the m:Special page to work with the interwiki table extension on the Uncyclopedia-related projects so that we can update these? Using uncyclopedia:pagename to link to the English-language version from de: doesn't work as it conflicts with the de: project namespace uncyclopedia:, en: doesn't work as a direct link because the interlanguage table is missing, so a link from de: to en: can only be made through some other wiki, ie: desencyclopedie:en:pagename wikia:uncyclopedia:pagename or wikia:uncyclopedia:en:pagename. Thanx. --carlb 15:24, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
