[edit] Change icon for WoWWiki on Wikia central?

Perhaps we should use c:wow:Image:Logo-vert-100x100.png instead of (Image:Warcraftlogo.png) on Big wikis, Gaming/List of wikis, and Gaming/The Hits? I don't know if we can track down the source of , but we know that c:wow:Image:Logo-vert-100x100.png was originally designed by Mikk way back and he explicitly released this one into public domain. --Fandyllic (talk · contr) 23:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Good point. I'll get on it. Kirkburn (talk) 23:48, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Alternatively, use the stamp! --Sky (t · c · w) 04:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, Fandyllic: c:wow:WoWWiki:Proposed icon is where they came from. --Sky (t · c · w) 04:18, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
That's not what I meant. I meant the origin of the image and whether the author cleared it for use. It isn't clear who the author is and no obvious permission was given to use it by Wikia. It definitely originated before Wikia took control of WoWWiki and just because it appeared in WoWWiki doesn't automatically subject to Gnu license if it was uploaded improperly in the first place.
The stamp works too, but its origin and permission for it is unclear also. --Fandyllic (talk · contr) 06:17, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Pretty sure Mikk's stuff is free for us to use. The stamp seemed to originate from SilverSide and no objections have been heard from any quarters about the stamp logo. I'd go for the stamp logo anyway, as that's most recognisable at the moment. Kirkburn (talk) 20:37, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DPL on potbs wikia

the dpl extension on potbs.wikia.com seems to have been removed, disabled or broken any page on it is now just displaying the dpl code instead of the intended output see [POTBS] as an example Mafoo 23:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Creatures Wiki

As an administrator on the Creatures Wiki, I would really appreciate it if you refrained from making any further unsolicited changes or modifications to our wiki. Things have been going fine since 2004, and as I have stated multiple times to you the last times you have made changes on our wiki, I really dislike unnecessary changes to things that have worked just fine since the wiki's creation. We are not really interested in being a part of the Wikia Gaming community, we don't need fancy new themes, and we don't need any other sweeping modifications or tweaks. We just want to keep doing what we've always done, which is be a simple, straightforward repository for Creatures information. If you have suggestions to make, please feel free to bring them up to us, but making changes without talking to us at all beforehand is pretty uncool. ElasticMuffin 06:02, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

My apologies, I will be more careful in future. However, can I mention that you have not mentioned this to me in the past, except when I posted talk page messages with suggestions or news. Kirkburn (talk) 12:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
We are not aware of any changes you make besides the ones you tell us about, and I thought it was reasonable to post my concerns on the talk pages where you'd mentioned the changes. ElasticMuffin 14:17, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Profile Tools on GTW

[edit] SWG Wiki, Rattletrap, Admin

Kirkburn, thanks for your attention but the problem got bigger. The administrator I'm having a problem with blocked me for a whole week since last Saturday, when I edited that Rattletrap page. As you can see in the history [1], what I did was add more information below the data the Admin. doesn't want to be messed with. He then reverted it, blocked me and said it was because he wants [2] to keep those type of articles (collections, in SWG) in a format, and that I added redundant information. First, one cannot do whatever he wants if he is, in this case, limiting the amount of information people can have access to: wikis are all about information. And second, as to being redundant, when someone tells another person to go to a city named Asdfg, they say the name, they don't give coordinates. I was merely adding the names of in-game cities, and even dividing the coordinates by planet and putting it in an order that follows the beginner's quest in SWG, to make it easier for a new player as he goes from one world to the next.

As for using the summary, wouldn't have made a difference, because that Admin. is doing what he wants. He told me not to ruin it, I improved the article without ruining it (tested in-game), he blocked me the 1st time. I improved the 2nd time without even touching the original information on the article, and without Talk page or anything, 2nd block. Rsreston 18:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Galaxy Angel Wiki, False Content User

Hi Kirkburn, first off, thank you for your compliment on my monaco skin. I'm sure if you look at the edits, you'll see that a lot of experimentation was done to try to figure out how to make it work the way I wanted it to. Anyway, on to my actual concern, there is a user on my wiki, Vandreadworld, whose only contributions have been strange false content that for the most part attempts to link Galaxy Angel with Gundam SEED. The contributions he has made are clearly false, as for the most part, the parts that do have to do with Galaxy Angel (GA) are ripped verbatim from other pages on the wiki, while the parts that don't have to do with GA have clear indicators that they are false, like references to the "Cartoon Network military headquarters" or the "Hero TV Anime Alliance". You can check these by going through my deletion log [3]; most of the deletions are of his work. Oddly enough though, his recent edits seem to consist entirely of restoring and continuing to edit this one particular article [4], while sometimes editing other pages to make reference to it. I checked through it and it's still all false content, but it seems odd, since if he wanted to, he could be much more annoying, as to undo his damage at the moment, I only need to redelete the page, and revert his edit on a different one. I've blocked him and his IP addresses a few times now, and almost without fail, he comes back right after his block expires and re-makes his edits. I've tried to talk to him on his talk page, but have gotten no reply. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what to do. Thanks.

Unfortunately I cannot suggest much other than continuing to revert and ban for increasingly lengthy periods. I could request the IPs be checked to see if they're the same as the vandal account, but it seems pretty certain anyway. Hopefully he will eventually realise the futility of his actions. Sorry I can't be of more help! Kirkburn (talk) 14:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: StarCraft Profile tools

I thought about it. I'll be ready for the end of the week, like you were hoping for. Kimera 757 (talk) 23:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Beta Test

If only StarCraft II could beta test this fast :)

How does the Site Notice ID work? I checked the GTA wiki; they have made many changes (about 10, I believe) to their Site Notice page, but their Site Notice ID value is set at 2.

I can't link SiteScout to the Monaco bar yet as the page doesn't exist :) I've gone to several wikis that are using SiteScout, but the source (you can't edit them) always looks blank. However, it's clearly working at the other wikis. The same goes for upload

I believe I have a handle on site notice, custom fields and user extensions. I'm testing the latter here: http://beta.starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/User:PsiSeveredHead/Test (Yeah, right now it's just a copy).

Kimera 757 (talk) 01:16, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tools Went Gold...

But there's one small bug.

I'm working on the userbox help page at http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Userboxes_extension

If I add this line: You can embed them in a page using [[Userbox:<name>]] the browser crashes when I try to make the edit. This is true for Firefox and Internet Explorer. At present it works if I don't try to make an internal link. I don't know what's going on. Kimera 757 (talk) 23:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Social Profiles are Red Links

Just a small one from GTW. When activated, the new Social Profiles don't rely on (or even use) any content that is actually on the User:Name page. So users with an empty user page (aka every new member, and everyone that exclusively has a social profile) actually just have a bunch of Red links, and users with content on their pages get Blue links whether they're using social profile or the standard wikimarkup profiles. I don't want to ask users to put random useless content in their user pages that won't show up, but I'm just glad the &action=edit flag isn't set up on the red links. Let me know if you can add an extra CSS class for social profile / userpage links that we can set to always be blue. Gboyers (?) 01:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Also something about userboxes. You don't seem to be able to use uploaded images in them at all (you have to save the image to your PC and re-upload in the userbox form) - the same happens with gifts. Also, you can't link to pages in the text area, defeating half the point of userboxes, which is to aid navigation and collaboration. And when you embed them in a page, they are a different size to the one you designed, so trying to make one with (eg) exactly one line of text will fail when its embedded. Also, a lot of the new admin pages (eg Special:GiftManager) aren't appearing on Special:Specialpages. Gboyers (?) 12:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

The red links thing is being tweaked. Reported the userbox problems. Thanks! Kirkburn (talk) 16:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Any progress? Thanks - Gboyers (?) 07:54, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Whenever someone registers now, it creates their profile page, causing a blue link, so that problem should be fixed. Not sure about the wikitext userboxes, will check up. Kirkburn (talk) 14:21, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AoC Wiki Social Tools

I love the AoC Wiki social tools. Do you think that could be integrated into the RPGStarter? --TarrVetus 18:59, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Asheron's Call Wiki starter thanks!

Thanks for the starter layout, oh great helper from across the Pond!

My authorization came through rather quickly, and just before Penguicon 6.0 last weekend, and I'm still winding down from that big mess^H^H^H^Hparty! At least I got a favicon done first. :)

Been going over your guides, and everything else, and doing much offsite planning and plotting. Once I get a good base down so that my vision is visible, I'll be putting out a Call to the forces across the net....especially those who have their own sites set up. :)

Jadawin 22:18, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Starter Use

The intent of the RPGStarter was really more for the RPGStarter to support server wikis, and to allow guilds and other groups within those larger communities to create pages within the framework. From what I can see from past wikis, guild wikis do not appear to have a long life (sometimes, not even one that would qualify as "short").

We would like to speak with you about the upcoming use of the RPGStarter. Unfortunately, it appears I am available in IRC around 1AM your time. I should be free during some of the day on Wednesday, though, around your 4 or 5PM. Would you like to speak in IRC/Skype/etc. around that time?

--TarrVetus 15:09, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

IRC should be fine - can't guarantee I'll be up, but I'm always on the IRC channels anyway. Yeah, I meant RP servers :P Kirkburn (talk) 15:13, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Heh... I've had terrible luck, lately. I log into IRC right when you're going to sleep. Do you think you'll be awake around 4 or 5PM on Wed., though? --TarrVetus 15:29, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I should think so. Kirkburn (talk) 15:36, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Great! Speak with you then! --TarrVetus 15:38, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey Kirk. Between a long doctor's visit and computer problems, I was unable to talk to you today. Would sometime Friday be good for you? --TarrVetus 19:18, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Should be fine :) Kirkburn (talk) 14:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] wowwiki problems

[edit] thanks and a favor

ok thanks for the response, i'll just keep it at brick for now. i need a favor though, i made a new logo for the MH wiki, can you actually put it up? It should be the last picture uploaded. PitchBlack696 02:46, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hey! (reply from Diablo wiki)

from Atrumentis 13:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm going good, thanks. I haven't had much time for the wiki lately unfortunately, so I don't have any issues. But, holidays are coming up again soon so I'll hopefully be able to contribute some more. We've had some more activity lately too, probably because of the increased hype surrounding Diablo III, so thats always good.

Hmm, and using the brick skin? Yeah, I like it. Reds/browns suit diablo more than blue. Except, it'd be better if it had a black background for the text instead of white (and obviously inverted text colour too). I would love to be able to customise our wiki even more than that though. I helped create some textual images for the skin design on diablofans.com, maybe we could do something similar with the Diablo wiki? I don't know much about coding, and I'm too afraid to fiddle with it myself lol, but I'll edit a screenshot of the homepage in photoshop and see if I can come up with something cooler than the simple set of colour schemes provided.

[edit] Heads up from Mabiwiki

Hey there-apparently you are the other admin on my Mabinogi Wiki. I'll ask you not to delete pages without asking me first though (if that isn't too much trouble) as I want my Wiki to stand out from others. Thank you!

[edit] Questions for new wiki

I recently started smallworlds wiki and am interested in a few things to improve it:

  • How can i use my own domain name for the site? Similar to what was done with wowwiki.com.
  • Can an entire wiki site be downloaded for safe-keeping, backups, etc?
  • Are there rules against displaying a wikia site in an iframe?

--User:Nightzilla

*Regarding the domain, I suggest talking to User:Sannse - however, there is nothing stopping you from purchasing a domain yourself and directing it to Wikia.
*Wikia performs backups of its own - see Database download for more details.
*Why would you want to do this? It would not be possible on a wiki without special coding. Kirkburn (talk) 12:50, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] E-Wrestling Encyclopedia needs a navigational box to be added

Hey there Kirkburn,

I'm the bureaucrat at E-Wrestling Encyclopedia and one user asked for the navigational box from wikipedia to be added into E-Wrestling Encyclopedia. Any such a way to do this? I'm also looking for the same thing at Soap Opera Wiki and Roller Derby Wiki. I thank you in advance if you could do this. Sundogs user talk | Soap Operas Wiki 01:56, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll try take a look later or tomorrow. Kirkburn (talk) 16:33, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] PSP Wiki

Hi Kirkburn. Can you comment in Forum:PSP Wiki, please? Thanks, Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 16:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I'll bring it to the attention of the gaming team. Kirkburn (talk) 16:32, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! It really needs help. I have a 'Wiki.png' and a 'Wiki_wide.png' for that wiki on my computer.. Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 16:38, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
One more thing. Is there a way to put the 'Default' Pack on the wiki ? I mean the account of Wikia to have all the templates and important pages on the wiki. The PSP Wiki don't have it. For example, here, it's a lot of work in a second.. Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 17:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately, not really - as it would overwrite any changes that have been made. However, w:c:starter is most of that package, and you can just copy pages from there. Kirkburn (talk) 17:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
I didn't know this 'starter' page.. It's perfect. Thanks very much for your helps ;) Playsonic2 • ¡Speak! • 18:02, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] COH Sync BUGs

I noticed i was having a issue on coh and i looked it up on forms and im trying to find the right person to talk to cause in game i got what they call a sync bug it is very anoying and wont even let me play coh, ive about given up on tec support cause they are not very helpfull and they keep sending me stupid survey letters when they to begin with havent solved my issue, What or who would be the best person to contact, my email is elshevia@yahoo.com and ive also provided them with the phone number to my house and told them plz call, i dont think they are gonna help me. many others on forms think same app and we need to find a solution to this. Who can i talk to that would be like a one on one contact to resolve the issue? Do u think it is a trogen in my comp, or would it be the game client they have?

[edit] I need to know

If you are a Sysop on the Assassins Creed Wiki, there is an article with a misspelled name. If this is not a problem, than don't fix, otherwise, please do. The title of the artcile is Uknown Templar-yes, that is how it is spelled. Just an Alert. Demon Razgriz 21:07, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My IRC ban on #wikia

I think it's unjustified. I didn't even impersonate Danny aka (Toughpigs). It was the same user who vandalized Danny's page. I wouldn't even think to impersonate Danny as the way he did it was post the exact same message from that page and then committed to do general stupidity. So why would you even blame me, I don't have a grudge against Danny. All I'm saying is that you'll reconsider the block, not saying unblock it, just think about it. --Taylor Karras talk contributions 15:01, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Taylor, as we discussed on IRC... you told me, very clearly, that it was you. I understand that you have changed your mind about that and say the admission was a mistake, but it seems odd at least that you would tell me you did this if you didn't. However, I am trying to contact a couple of people and get some logs of the whole incident, so that I can find out more about what went on. Please be patient while I do this. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:14, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Soulcalibur Wiki

Hi - I just wanted to say thanks for the new front page you devised for the Soul Calibur wiki. It's pretty sweet, and I've implemented it.

Thanks again,

Replied on wiki. (Awesome!) Kirkburn (talk) 08:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Crysis Wikia

Are you the one who started the Crysis wikia? The Crysis wikia seems abandons and few of us are trying to keep it alive and running.

Jeffrey3732 04:03, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Heya, I'll try take a look sometimes this week. Thanks for your dedication! Kirkburn (talk) 08:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Problem w/ advertising

A don't mind the new formatting, except for the fact that we don't have a logo. But something has seriously got my attention. An ad keeps running past the front page advertise some online game called 'EVE'. Advertising doesn't bug me. This does. For wiki about a video game with a slightly younger appeal, I'd rather not have a 'T rated' War game advertised across the front page especially if the opening line is: "Will you defy the Word of GOD?" I'm a christian. I would (if possible) like this to be removed or at least replaced. --Count Caterpie

Thanks for the notice. I'll certainly bring it up, though I cannot guarantee a resolution. Kirkburn (talk) 08:51, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] SupCom wikia image upscaling

Thanks for the info. I'll consider my options, but none seem optimal... :/ I think I'll manage though :) Happypal (talk) 10:33, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Cool. Kirkburn (talk) 13:38, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again, but you had said "If anything changes, I will endeavour to update that page". I was just wondering if that meant that a change might be coming eventually (even if in a week, month or year), or if I shouldn't hold my breath at all (but if by some freak chance something does change, you'd update the page)? What should I be expecting? This is to know if I should wait or fix btw. Thanks again for your time and help. happypal (Talk)Admin@SupCom.wikia.com 10:41, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Nothing will change that I know of, but it's always possible it might come in a MediaWiki upgrade. Kirkburn (talk) 16:35, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox question

hi kirkburn,

total noob here. i needed a place to store articles and stories about second life for a group of friends and i thought i would try my hand at wiki. i went thru the basic tutorials and decided on a category of 'alt-media' but am still pretty shakey on structure. i noticed that it was moved to a sandbox (not sure how you define that term btw) - does that mean it will be deleted after a time? is there a better place for my group to store articles? i saw some further help on your page and will read those soon, but wanted to touch base with you now to let you know where i'm coming from.

Bluematrix 13:35, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

scratchpad.wikia.com may be more what you are going for - or even secondlife.wikia.com. Kirkburn (talk) 13:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Main Page Design for Lost Odyssey

Thanks for both the complement and the heads up :). I don't have a problem with the new layout you made. The only thing I'd maybe change are a few colors. Any ways if you want to go ahead and implement it I'm fine with that. I can make the colors changes that I mentioned on my own after it's up.

As far as other layout changes for this wikki I've been putting the stub tag at the bottom of pages now because the are messing with the adds. And that's really about it.

(Ilayas 18:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC))

Cool, will make a few tweaks, then implement. Kirkburn  talk  contr 12:13, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Monster Hunter WIki Main Page Redesign

Thanks, Kirk. I like the redesign a lot. THe only thing I have a concern with is the poll. It seems to run off the page to the side. PitchBlack696 19:03, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Added a note to the dev page. Kirkburn  talk  contr 12:12, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing the poll! But I have a new concern. The Halo and Final Fantasy Wikis have the ability to create quizzes, image polls, and have an "advanced" user page setup. Would it be possible for the MH wiki to get this? PitchBlack696 18:36, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Sure, you're on our list for future rollout. We're currently merging that codebranch into the main codebranch (see GTA and AoC for examples). Once we're sure that's stable, we'll try to get on it. I cannot promise a timescale yet, unfortunately. Kirkburn  talk  contr 18:39, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image License Tag help

I've uploaded a bunch of images on my wiki (lorea.wikia.com) but I don't know which tag to put on them. They are all constructed from screenshots in the game, but they also have been significantly edited by myself (such as cleaning up bloodstains and piecing together different sections to create maps). I wasn't sure if I should use the "I took this picture myself" since 1) It's not a photo and 2) they used screenshots, which probably have their own licensing agreements and all. I might have used the screenshot tag that's used on Wikipedia, but it's not an option on my wiki and I don't know how to import it. Please assist! Mathwhiz90601 01:39, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Hullo! You probably only need a copyright notice for the game developers. The screenshot template from Wikipedia is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Non-free_game_screenshot - you could probably just copy and tweak it. It certainly doesn't need to be quite as complex as the Wikipedia version. Kirkburn  talk  contr 11:30, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Editing Main Page Sections

Is there a way to edit the individual sections of the main page without having to edit the whole page and scroll down and finding the sections ?

I have removed the NOEDITSECTION with this comment
<!-- __NOEDITSECTION__ -->
It makes the "Edit" button appear on the right but when you click Edit you get "There is no Section #" where # = 1 thru however many sections you have using the {{HeadingB}} and/or {{HeadingA}} templates.
( Morph on http://Ikariam.com | Contribs | Talk ) -- 20:27, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Not really, as the headings are on a different page to the main page. If you moved the header code from the templates to the main page it could help - but it's generally safer to edit the whole page at once, so you can check nothing breaks. Kirkburn  talk  contr 11:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Zone of the enders wiki

First off: I'ver noticed in the past that Wki's have had been...lacking in areas...like for example the Soul cailbur wiki (and before that there were some missing in the Matrix one that I added that were helpful) was lacking at first and I helped get alot of stuff up on it. Second...the Gundam wiki.. helped alot there as well...well now I find an area that needs help more than I can give....or at least more than I alone can give..and this wiki is so lacking that it saddens me...I'm refering to the Zone of the Enders wiki. I've tried adding some articles myself..but I've realised that its so lacking its beyond me alone helping..so I have a request...would you be willing to help (or have somone who can help) expand the Zone of the enders wiki? [edit] I request assistance

Kirkburn, I recently asked Angela from Wiki Central to find out what had happened to my userpage on Halopedia. Even though she recontacted me, asking if the userpage was restored, she also had instructed me to contact you in the event my userpage was not restored. So, here we are, and I still do not have my userpage. If you can do anything, I would greatly appreciate it. Please Note: I have already contacted the admins of Halopedia of this matter, and one attempted to restore it. However, when he did, the page (and all its tabs at the top) refused to show up. Looking into it! Kirkburn  talk  contr 16:11, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
