[edit] porting monobook to Monaco

Hey KyleH,

I'm actually in the middle of using my semi-limited knowledge and understanding of CSS to port it over. As I mentioned on IRC, Angela set us up a testwiki for doing some customisation <on. I'm partly through it, still need much more to do. :)

As for the front page, I was thinking more of a modular design akin to wowwiki's. Means we can expand a section or have a large poll, without worrying about other sections stretching have having massive spaces in them. :)

There is a bit of a design on the test wiki atm, but more than willing to change it. Also, the header background is only a temporary thing atm that I'm messing about with.

[edit] Monaco skin

I saw your comment on the RuneScape wiki Yew Grove about using Monaco. Personally, I like monobook, and I know most users at our site do. It's just simple. However... I'm really liking Monaco now (Quartz, not at all). I started to create my own Monaco skin and was actually hoping to maybe present it to the community once finished as the Custom Monaco skin for our wiki. But, I don't know CSS, so a lot of my work has been taking things from other wikis (FFXIclopedia being the one I'm referring to, which you also suggested =]) and from a personal monobook of one of our users, adapted from a Common version I think mostly created by Richard1990 (but again, we like plain monobook, so the custom one didn't last long). But I have some issues and I was wondering if you could help, or refer me to someone who could. I know there's a staff meet-up going on, so the people I've tried contacting in IRC have been busy with other things. =P What I have so far is here and what it looks like is this. I'm aiming for something like this. Links on that first bar are what I need help fixing, and the links up top where it says "Gaming" next to wikia, because that's only visible because of the monaco skin I have set in the background, I know if I changed it to say, "slate" or something, it wouldn't be readable. Links in and TOCs are blue and hard to read also. And, if there's any way to insert a temporary logo, just as a way to test things out and see how everything looks when experimenting, I could use that help too. Thanks =] ChristineTalk 02:15, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Namespaces added to article count

  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia. We need Portal, Card Lores, Card Names and Cart Artworks, added to the total article count. Thanks in advance.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 18:45, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Also, we need three more namespaces added (and to be specified as content namespaces, too, as well as the other four above), Set Card Lists, Set Card Galleries, and Set Card Ratios. These three need SQL commands, since they're currently occupied.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 20:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] GuildWiki Merge

I noticed I appeared on the list of account conflicts on GuildWiki. I'm just wondering why. I set up these accounts exactly the same, or does preferences have to be the same too? Thoughtful 03:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

There were a few cases where people were renamed even if they had their accounts set up the same on both GuildWiki and Wikia. Please make note of the issue on the migration talk page and the tech team will take a look at it. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 06:16, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
According to Stabber, its fairly easy to merge contributions;

% cd wikidir/maintenance %cp ../AdminSettings.sample ../AdminSettings.php # (and edit it) % php reassignEdits.php GW-Warwick Warwick

Etc. For each person, change GW-Warwick to GW-{User}, and Warwick to {User}.

That should cause all contributions by GW-Warwick to be moved to Warwick. Though you probably already knew that. -- File:MaySig.png Warw/Wick 11:06, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple here, but we should still be able to take care of any rename requests fairly quickly. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:55, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Minor Navigation problem

We need the "More Hubs" button on the front page to travel back to the main wikia site like all the other hubs. But I don't really know how to add that blue arrow thingy. You might want to fix that sometime--Cs california 10:13, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Friendly KyleH,
Sorry for disturbing you, I'm one of sysop of evchk. I have requested new Parser on evchk (in topic Forum:Problem on using td tag in ifeq...), But I didn't know who I can contect for help. So, may I ask you for help?
Thanks

[edit] Thanks!

Thank you!!! I actually also did just create templates by season, so that page isn't bogged down by all those parser functions. I hope that helps. Thanks again for tending to this so quickly! --ABrose 17:33, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Title blacklist for EVCHK.

I know that there is Extension:SpamBlacklist installed for anti-spam. And one of Community Team suggest me use that to protect articles to create.
However, I think Extension:Title Blacklist is better and easier for local wikia sysop to maintain.
May I request to install it for EVCHK?

Other questions: Should the Local Spam Blacklist add in MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist or MediaWiki:Blacklist title list ( such as c:evchk:MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist or c:evchk:MediaWiki:Blacklist title list)?

Also, I don't know whether the regular expressions of Spam Blacklist is in UTF-8 mode... --疾風綾希 17:42, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

To edit the local spam blacklist, you will need to add entries to c:evchk:MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. MediaWiki:Blacklist title list is used only for our global filter; changes on the local wiki version do not take effect.
Why do you feel that Extension:Title Blacklist would be easier to maintain than Extension:SpamBlacklist? They both perform almost the same function, so we probably wouldn't be able to install Title Blacklist when we already have SpamBlacklist available. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 20:16, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Because Extension:Title Blacklist is designated for protecting the titles ONLY, it doesn't care about what the page contents.
e.g. I wanna to protect any titles contain the string "HKGolden" to create, but we still need put the URLs or contents contain this string. For now, I have to wirte regex in both blacklist and whitelist.
(ah~ it may not be done as it checks the title and contents in same time.
If I put such regex in blacklist, a tons of articles [of course these are references, NOT spam] are not able to edit. However If I put another regex in whitelist, it will make a trap to let user create the titles contain the string to vandalise.)
And I have test some regex which pass the test in PHP, it seems not effective. Anonymous are still able to create such title.
Especially it causes some issuses in East Asian languages, which don't use space between words.--疾風綾希 09:04, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
I forget saying that one more reason is "Title Blacklist is stable while SpamBlacklist is considered experimental".:P--疾風綾希 09:07, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
For similar reason, please consider about Extension:Username Blacklist--疾風綾希 09:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Ahhh, thanks for that information. I will pass it along to our engineers so that they can evaluate the extension. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 18:13, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
we have MediaWiki:Blacklist title list. But I don't really know how it work. --KJ@Wikia(討論) 16:19, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
This just like KyleH said, is used only for our global filter, but not the local one.--疾風綾希 16:59, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Well, I didn't know the progress evaluating these two extension, and it's difficult to do with Counter-vandalism by non-spam now...--疾風綾希 16:59, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I believe that we have found a way to enable MediaWiki:Blacklist title list for the local wiki as well. I have enabled it on evchk. Can you try it out? The format should be the same as MediaWiki:Blacklist_title_list here on Central. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 17:31, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Is it w:c:evchk:MediaWiki:Local title blacklist? And I don't know which extension in w:c:evchk:Special:Version is the exact one.
Is that function base on Extension:Title Blacklist?--疾風綾希 05:06, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
And can I use optional attributes such as <autoconfirmed|casesensitive|moveonly|newaccountonly|reupload|errmsg|noedit>?--疾風綾希 05:12, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
The page should be MediaWiki:Blacklist title list, but it appears that something is not working correctly. I'm looking in to it and will reply when I have more information. You can not use optional attributes with this title blacklist. This is just change to the existing title blacklist rather than an installation of Extension:Title Blacklist, so it doesn't have any extra features. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:52, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Emm...Now there is no method to do with the vandalism caused by page creation, please let us know how to counter-vandalism.--疾風綾希 12:13, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

And what about white list of "Blacklist title list"?--疾風綾希 13:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi! I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, but the title blacklist is cached, so it only updates on the server once every hour or so. I have checked c:evchk:MediaWiki:Blacklist title list, and it seems to be working fine; however, you should be aware that changes to that list can take an hour or so to work properly. There was a problem with it before, but it should be fixed now. I am afraid that there is no whitelist. I have requested that our engineers evaluate Extension:Title Blacklist to allow you more flexibility; however, that process will probably take a while because even simple changes to a system as large as Wikia can have dramatic impacts. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 16:22, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Strange state

Well,I request check IPs at there. However, it seems that the "Range-block-IP" is out of order, as mention at Forum:Is Range blocks IP enable?. And someguy ( such as User:JSharp* User:JSharp***) is still able to reg. more A/C to make vandalism.--疾風綾希 12:00, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

  • clank 720
Heya! To promote someone, all you have to do is go to Special:Userrights, enter their name, and add them as a sysop. You should only promote people that you and the other members of your community feel are trustworthy, because you can not remove that right from them yourself if it becomes a problem (we can remove the flag for you, but only in situations where they are grossly abusing the privilege). --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 20:55, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Death Note Wiki

Hello. I just wanted to take the opportunity to apologize for my message yesterday. Upon second examination, I may have come across a little harsh in my attitude language. I was merely frustrated because it seemed like the issue was being ignored. Looking back on it today, it seems like such a trifle how I was ranting on and on about something relatively small.

I also wanted to say thank you very much for your patience and dignified treatment. Most people I know would just start firing away when confronted with such a situation. It is great to know that Wikia has such awesome staff members helping people out instead of ignoring the problem like everybody else does.

I appreciate the advice you gave to me as well. I should have contacted the user through his talk page first, and then his e-mail and myspace. However, I went through the process backwards, which is my own fault. Hopefully, I can get in contact with the user and attempt to communicate with him before he falls off the radar for another week and a half.

Once again, many thanks for your time and efforts, as they as much appreciated. I am hopeful that the next time we speak will be under more auspicious circumstances.

-Mogturmen 14:32, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry, I understand your frustration. I figured that you had spoken with him privately previously, but in this case, I think it is best to try to work things out in a way that I can watch and try to help you in the process. Let's give it a few days and see what happens. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:55, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Becoming a trusted member of the community

Hello KyleH,

If you have no answer for this, it is ok. How long does it take the average account person to get trusted in a wikia? this is a hard question so if you dont know than you can erase this. Thank you.TriforceKnight 20:35, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tritem! There is no definite answer for that because it varies from wiki to wiki; however, I would discourage you from thinking about adminship as some status for you to strive to attain. Being an admin is nothing special. They're just people that have put a lot of work in to the wiki, so the community has determined that they can be trusted with a few extra tools which, for practical reasons, can't be given to everyone. That's not to say that they don't have an important role, because they do, but they get there just because they are dedicated people who are trying to improve the wiki in any way that they can. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:25, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DeathNote Wiki

Hello there. I don't know if you remember me or my e-mail from a week ago, yet I wanted to get in contact with you again. I took your advice to wait a week for this user to appear, when last night Dreamanderson finally decided to show his "face" after over two (2) weeks neglecting Death Note Wiki. However, when he did stop in, very briefly, he chose to completely ignore my most sincere request to join the site, deciding instead to begin reverting and squelching all my valid and helpful contributions once again. After this, I would be very lucky to see any sign of him for at least another few weeks...

It is my sincere belief that this user will continue to undermine my (and other user's) edits in order to merely suit his ego. In the past 3 weeks, I've done everything within my ability for this Wiki, which is more than he's done in a year! All that, only to be treated like dirt by this person who has a power complex as well as an addiction to cocaine. The way that this user enacts his Napoleon-like issues as well as flaunting his drug abuse serves only to disgrace Wikia.com. It is also a very negative image for all the users who seek help, guidance and advice in regards to Death Note Wiki, all of which they never get from this so-called "sysop."

This user has no intention to work with me (or others) as a team, which is how a Community works. This kid only desires the power to alone have complete rule over the website that he himself was only appointed to a few months ago! He has no interest in allowing me or other people to help out, which is ironic, as he never shows up but once a month. Even then, what help is it for the Wiki to change little more than a couple letters, then disappearing again for who knows how long?! Please bring an end to this drama, as I have done all that I can and then some for the Wiki that I loyally defend and build up every day!

-Mogturmen 16:51, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mogturmen,
I have been watching the wiki for the past two weeks, and while I understand your concerns, I'm afraid that I'm just not seeing the issues the same way that you are. It is true that Dreamanderson hasn't been around too terribly much, but I am not seeing that his absence is having a negative impact on the wiki. You are already welcoming new users and giving them guidance and advice without being a sysop. That's the great thing about a wiki ... you don't have to be anyone special or have any elevated privileges to make a significant impact on the wiki.
I left a message on Dreamanderson's talk page. If there are any changes that you feel need to be made which require sysop privileges, such as changing MediaWiki messages or unprotecting certain pages, let me know and I'll be happy to help. I don't, however, believe that there is a compelling reason for us to dive in and take things over. Doing so would probably cause more problems that it would solve, especially since there aren't a bunch of compelling issues which require admin attention at this time. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:59, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, about a month ago, I was made an admin on The Spyro Wiki. However, I don't want to be an admin and I only ever edit occasionly. I'd like to be de-sysoped. Thanks. YOWUZA TALK 2 ME! 11:51, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Yowuza. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't interested in being an admin for the Spyro Wiki. Is there any particular reason that you want to be de-sysoped? Leaving the sysop flag on your account doesn't really hurt anything, and it makes things easier in case you ever do decide to return and help out a little bit more. If you really want me to remove it, though, I'll be happy to, just let me know that you're sure you really want me to do it. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 20:16, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] F.E.A.R. wiki Administrator

Apologizes in advance if this is in the wrong place but over at the F.E.A.R. wiki we no longer have a active administrator and need one I would suggest one or all of the following users be made administrators at the wiki as they are all active members who are trusted by the community.

Seven279 05:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Seven276! It sounds like you guys are off to a pretty good start there. Since you already have an active group of people there, you should all get together and elect a new administrator. Try posting your suggestion on the Community Portal and post to the talk pages of active members asking them to provide their input. I can also put a link to the Community Portal in the site notice so everyone who visits knows about it. Once the community agrees on who should become administrators, post on the Wiki adoption requests page here on central with the results. Let me know if you have any questions! --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 06:51, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template trouble on Christianity wikia English

Hi, I'm User:Kathleen.wright5 from Christianity Wikia English. I've been having trouble with Template:Infobox Pope. Its OK on its own template page but not on articles. So I had a look at the same template on Wikipedia and I noticed it had Template:UF-hcard-person, which I put on its own page at Christianity Wikia. The articles it was linked to looked the same so I put Template:UF-hcard-person on the same page as the above template. When I looked at the articles that were linked to the templates I noticed the sidebar had the image missing. I then removed the content from Template:UF-hcard-person, but not deleted (I'm not an Admin). I then removed the templates from the article pages by putting the information from it into list form. The article pages still have the image missing on the sidebar. The articles that were linked are - Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul I, Pope John XXIII, Pope Pius XII, Pope Pius XI, Pope Anacletus, Pope Pius IX, Pope Boniface VIII and Pope Clement I. Infobox Pope can be found under Category:Templates and Template:UF-hcard-person can be found at Category:Template templates. Could you please delete both of them. User:Kathleen.wright5 08:50, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New admin is needed for Hungarian Star Wars Wiki

Hi. As the original admin for the hungarian star wars wiki site (http://hu.starwars.wikia.com/wiki/) has been missing for a long time our small group of users decided to elect a new admin for the site for practical reasons (vandalism, development, etc.). We tried to solve the problem by leaving a message at help desk, where others suggested to ask someone of the wikia staff to set that rights. Our elected user for the new admin is Kamocsaip. Thx, Bikov 19:41, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] KanzakaDex repeated vandalism

Hi. Someone seems to have a vendetta against our user AstroNerdBoy (perhaps because of his anime blog? who knows?) and has been vandalizing his user and user talk page repeatedly. After they've been protected to prevent unregistered edits, he/she has started posting the same stuff on my talk page... I wonder whether there is way to solve this problem (like semi-protecting all pages for a limited time) or do I have to protect every single page which was a target of vandalism until the guy gives up? (Your spam filter interestingly tried to block out my edit because of the word "vandalism". Strange. :/ ) --Pip25 08:16, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Pip! The most important thing to make a vandal lose interest is to pay them as little attention as possible. Just revert, block, and ignore. Generic block reasons like "vandalism" or "intimidating behavior/harassment" are ideal because they don't get personal. The first two IPs are from completely different states, however 194.110.160.24 looks a bit like a proxy, so it may or may not be a coordinated attack. --CharitwoTalk 13:39, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. :) I'll try that. --Pip25 21:22, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] French RuneScape

Hi there. Sometime this month, RuneScape will come out with a French version of their game. I went to the French RuneScape wiki located here to check on its status since it would now be quite useful and much more popular once the update comes out. Unfortunately, the wiki is abandoned and in disrepair. Of the 15 articles, some are only vandalism and some are bad computer translations. Moreover, templates were created in English and refer and link to articles and users of the English RuneScape wiki. Is there any way to "reset" the wikia or, failing that, could you grant me administrator rights so that I can start repairing the site? Thanks.--Template:Signatures/Diberville 15:40, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Diberville! The French Runescape wiki definitely needs some love. There is still a lot that you can do as a regular user though. Why don't you start out by making a few contributions, then once you have spent a little bit of time there yourself, you can request to adopt the wiki here. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 18:51, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Heh, so I'm guessing that's a "No" on both the reset and admin rights. I had thought that perhaps the adoption process was the way to go were this the case and thank you for your forethought in telling me that it is. Two final quick questions: 1) could you delete the article I linked to above and 2) when requesting adoption, does my work on the English RuneScape wiki have any weight or is that wholly irrelevant? Thanks again.--Template:Signatures/Diberville 01:25, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
I've deleted the article per your request. You're right that it's a "no", but only for right this second. ;) The wiki desperately needs an admin. We very rarely delete and recreate wikis, but I doubt you'll have any trouble adopting the wiki once you have a few contributions in it. It's great that you have contributed a lot to the English Runescape wiki, but the wiki adoption process isn't really about who is "worthy" of adopting the wiki ... we just want to make sure that you be active on and dedicated to the community that you want to adopt. Plus, the steps listed at the top of the adoption request page are things that will help make the wiki a great wiki anyway! --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 01:55, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Great. Thanks for your help!--Template:Signatures/Diberville 03:10, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry to bother you again but I have three questions. 1) Could you please delete this page, 2) how do I change the generic Wikia logo in the navigation panel to this logo and 3) do the 20 new pages required for the adoption include or exclude templates? Thanks! --Template:Signatures/Diberville 02:38, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

I have deleted that page for you. To change the wiki's logo, just upload Image:Wiki.png to the wiki. Regarding the 20 pages, generally those pages should be main namespace pages. This is for a number of reasons, but it's mainly because content pages are what make up the meat of the wiki, and they're what show up in Google. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 05:05, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

I have now adopted the wiki! I just want to thank you for your help and advice with the adoption, it was greatly appreciated.--Template:Signatures/Diberville 04:16, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Great! I'm thrilled to see that the wiki is in good hands. :) --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:48, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spoiler/Hidden template

Hello KyleH

You recently helped the Warhammer Online Wikia getting a collapsible spoiler tempalte ([2]). I've been trying to add one of those to the Forgotten Realms wiki, but with no luck. Think you can work your magic over here too? :) Thanks in advance. Zeraktalk 09:04, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi Zerak! I'll try to take a look at this for you tomorrow. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 05:01, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Generic Starter Wikia

Hi. What's the purpose and/or future of Generic? — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:49, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Generic starter is planned to be used for new wikis in languages that don't have their own starter. It uses MediaWiki namespace messages which have already been translated so that it will appear in the user's own language (Welsh for example). Angela@Wikia (talk) 12:16, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. I may copy some of that reply elsewhere. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 04:33, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Hiya, KyleH! I'm BNK from Kirby Wiki, and I was wondering if you could tell me how I could demote the inactive administrators there. Can you help? If you can, could you demote the following users?

  • Dantman ‎(Bureaucrat, Sysop) (inactive for 4 months)
  • Katshuma ‎(Sysop) (inactive for 2 months)
  • KirbyFan ‎(Sysop) (inactive for 3 months)
  • ParaGoomba348 ‎(Sysop) (didn't even deserve adminship, inactive for 3 months)
  • Wiismartey ‎(Sysop) (inactive for well over a year)
  • YoshiFan ‎(Sysop) (inactive for well over a year)

The reason this comes up now is because some of the new users at Kirby Wiki request adminship without making any contributions or just making only a few. I want the users to take the wiki seriously, so if the new users see all the admins on the SysOp list, they'll think adminship is simply handed out. Also, Max2 (the founder) is inactive. He only logs in to whine about his ban at the Mario Wiki and promote his "friends" (our main problem; he's promoted users that barely made any contribs, but are his friends). He never responds to any help, nor does he do anything around the Wiki. Thank you in advance! Blue NinjakoopaTalk 22:56, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi BNK! I just looked at your list, and it does look like most of them are inactive; however, are having those people as administrators really doing any harm to the wiki? I understand that sometimes it can make things confusing for users who need to contact an administrator, but you can edit the administrators page to make it clear that the other admins are inactive. That said, if the community there decides that these changes need to happen, I will be happy to help. First, however, everyone involved in the community should have a chance to voice his or her opinion. Can you create a page or a talk page message on the issue, link to it in the site notice, and then come back to me once there is a consensus to make these changes? --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 18:55, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I think I can do put that they're inactive, and maybe make an inactive template. The community has made the decision (the active users requested it). I will do that, and tell you when the site notice is created. Thank you! Blue NinjakoopaTalk 22:41, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and one other thing. How do I remove "discussion" from Forum pages? Forums basically ARE discussion, so it isn't needed. Plz halp. ani_smwkoopatroopared.gif Blue Ninjakoopa ani_smwkoopatroopared.gif 05:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Admin change

Hey, I'm the original admin at Spore Modding Wikia and i'm wondering if you could remove DavidJohnson123‎ from the admin group as for the moment we only wish for me and void to be the admin.

Regards BalLightning 23:13, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi! I was just looking through the Spore Modding wiki, and I'm a little bit confused about why you want to remove his sysop flag. It looks like DavidJohnson123 has made a number of quality edits to the wiki, and while it is a little bit strange that he wants his user page deleted, that doesn't take away from the fact that he really is helping out. Have you discussed this change with him or any of the other users on the wiki? --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:51, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry if I'm interfering, but I have to make a comment here. I am semi-active on the Spore Modding wiki, and this is a number of reasons you should remove DavidJohnson123's adminship. BalLightning should respond to these as well KyleH.
  1. DavidJohnson123 is what I would say not using his protect power nicely. Example: Sometimes I make an edit that he disagrees with. He'll simply make it however he wants it and protect it so no one but Sysops can edit.
  2. His edits are not what I would consider "quality," as what you said. He makes a number of mistakes in his writing and does not proofread his work, making it harder for people to use it for reference.
  3. His first post was a request to become an admin at the wikia, and I'm pretty that was supposed to guarantee you will not become an admin any time soon.
  4. I have observed he does not understand Wikia Format, but he's getting a little better. For example, he uses ==Error== "If you meant this link please go there.", instead of #REDIRECT link

Thank-you for listening to my comments.

Thanks, TimeMaster Talk Main Contribs 20:53, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

I'd just like to say that i'm confirming what TimeMaster and i have said Regards BalLightning 01:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I understand why you feel this way, but it isn't fair for us to discuss these changes behind his back without actually talking to him about them. It's entirely possible that he doesn't understand that his behavior isn't constructive, and would adjust it accordingly if someone talked to him. Why don't you start a discussion with him, and see if these issues can't be resolved amicably first? --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 19:24, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok then, I've alerted David and he says he is sorry about his misconduct and that he is fine with his adminship getting removed. Thanks, TimeMaster Talk Main Contribs 23:40, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Alright. I'm glad that you had a chance to talk it out. I have made the change for you. Let me know if you need anything else. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 01:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I just realize, that I would like a username change if possible. If it could be done, I would greatly appreciate my username to be Glow, as it is a bit more what I would like. I apoligize for any trouble I may have caused. Thanks. BTW, I would like to have my password Not Changed Thanks again.--Eulalia! 00:02, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Eulalia!, currently Wikia's staff can not do username changes (technical limitation when using a shared user database), you have one of two options however... You can change your signature in your preferences to display a different name when you sign talk pages something like Newname (talk) or you can register a new account and have your old userpage inform others of the new name. --CharitwoTalk 00:15, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! SO I just make a new account? Then I say that I did? --Eulalia! 01:05, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Halopedia's Template:Rating

Hello Kyle!

A few hours ago, Halopedia (Halo Wiki) had updated its Monaco Skin. Problems surfaced as always and a few of them were resolved. One problem that remained to mystify me is the Rating Template. The template seems to overlap the Era Template, rendering both templates useless. Could you look into this problem? Cheers! -5ub7ank(7alk) 21:25, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I think that I was able to fix the problem. Things are going to be a little bit wonky while the template change goes through the job queue, but once that finishes, everything should look fine. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 19:08, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Halopedia Comments

I was wondering if you could set the comments on Halopedia so that when someone replies to a comment, the person who wrote the comment would get an email notifications. This would get people to check the replies and possibly answer questions that repliers ask. Thanks. BPL 23:35, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

That's a good idea! Right now we are working on a new blog article feature similar to what is on Halopedia. I'll make sure that suggestion reaches our tech team. Thanks! --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:39, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Pokemon Crater Wiki

Hi! I am a user in Pokemon Crater Wiki. This is a new wiki and I recently contributed more than 25 pages and was looking forward to become the administrator on that wiki. The founder of that wiki accepted me as an admin and said I should ask a Wiki Staff for admin access. I am a user from 2006 and I have contributed in Wikipedia and some other wikis also (like dragon ball wiki). I am not involved in vandalism. So can you please make me an administrator of that wiki? [edit] Fish Wrangler Wiki (Anti-Vandalism)

Hey Kyle,

I'm one of the senior users of the Fish Wrangler Wiki. In the past two weeks there have been at least 8 known cases of vandalism, but the admins have not been online to deal with them.

I would like to request for Jasman and I for Sysop rights so as to deal with the recent cases of vandalism.

I would also appreciate if you could tell me if these templates are appropriate.

Thanks in Advance
--MarcD 15:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Marc! It looks like MatthewB was active within the past few weeks. Why don't you try talking to him first to see if he can make you a sysop? If he doesn't respond to your request on his talk page, you can request to adopt the wiki here. Regarding the templates, I would generally recommend against using any template like that. Using those templates really just gives vandals more attention. It's best to just quietly revert the vandalism and block them as necessary. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:55, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Bioshock Welcoming New Users

Kyle,

I've noticed that over at Bioshock there seems to be a bot welcoming new users and thanking them for posting.

Is there anyway to make it so the bot won't leave talk for unregistered users? I don't know if there's much value in have tons of "User talk:<IP ADDRESS>" pages.

Thanks,

--Klivian 22:01, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually, some really cool happens when you leave a welcome message for an anonymous user. In the few weeks following the release of the new welcome bot, we found that new user registrations increased over 20%! So the welcome tool leaving IPs a message encouraging them to register an account actually helps a lot. That said, there are a lot of different ways that you can customize the welcome bot to work well for your wiki. You can see all of the options here. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:10, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your welcome

Thank you for your welcome. I always admire Asimov's work, and I have a collection of most, if not all, of his works. But I have not read them all actually, but will be. By the way, may I ask for your help? I want to establish Indonesian Asimov wiki. I cannot ask wikia to grant me a new wiki because in the past I had 3 wikis but I have not been active for a long time so I have to release 2 of my wikis. I still retain 1 wiki though, that is Indonesian Karl May Wiki. So, I don't think wikia will grant me another wiki. I also would like to ask you how to customize the main menu like that on English Asimov Wiki. Thank you. Agustinus[kirim pesan (leave me a message)] 20:14, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

You can edit the side menu by editing MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar on your wiki. You can read more about that here. Our new wiki creation process allows you to instantly create a new wiki, so if you want to create that Indonesian Asimov wiki, you can do so here. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:37, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] GFDL 1.3 and CC-by-sa

Hi! I asked this at the watercooler, but I guess it slipped by... will Wikia projects be following Wikimedia in taking advantage of the window of opportunity to switch from GFDL to CC-by-sa? Seeing as how "GFDL 1.2 or later" was adopted for Wikia (with exceptions for wikis that started beyond Wikia) to ensure compatibility with Wikipedia, it would seem like the natural thing to do (assuming Wikimedia actually does go through with it, but that seems very likely). But I haven't seen anything about it from Wikia.--71.235.240.19 05:07, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

You should see something about this on the forums some time within the next few days. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 19:08, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Monaco-sidebar

1. Hi, notice something, If I change my language preference to other languages, the changes I made to the sidebar is gone and return to default. Is this true?

Kind of. Customizing MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar only customizes the English version of the sidebar. If you want to edit the German version, you will need to edit MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar/de.

2. Is there a variable that can display the current user language preference? (I don't mean the default content language, but the language preference chosen by each user).

Not that I know of. One thing that might help is the "int" magic word. If you enter, for example, , it will include MediaWiki:Foo for English users, MediaWiki:Foo/de for German users, etc. If MediaWiki:Foo/de doesn't exist, then it will default back to MediaWiki:Foo. I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to do, but that might help you by allow you to display different messages to different users. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 17:37, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
In the wiki, I have made several mainpages for several languages. I would like each user to be directed to the main pages of the language of their choice, for example, if a user choose Spanish as his choice of language, everytime he click the logo, he would be directed to the Spanish language main page. Can this be done? --Agustinus[kirim pesan (leave me a message)] 23:11, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

3. The wiki name of c:worldesl has one "Wiki" word too many, so the name becomes "English as Second Language Wiki Wiki". Can you remove the second "Wiki"?

Done!

[edit] Machinipedia

I am a Machinima freak and I really would love to submit thing to machinima.wikia.com. But it looks like the site is basically dead. Is there any chance to revive it?

Yeah, it doesn't look particularly active ... but you can help revive it yourself. The best thing that you can do is add new content yourself. As you add more things to the wiki, your wiki will rank higher in Google, and more people will find your site and add to it. It's not easy--sometimes it can be lonely starting out when you're the only one around--but things hae to start somewhere. If you want to adopt the wiki and become an administrator, you can request to do that here. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:18, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Official Guides

Would it be legal if I was to put information from an official guide book (In this case a Dragon Quest VIII guide book) into a wiki?

I'm not really qualified to give out legal advice, but I would suggest against it. The the text from official guide books is copyrighted, and while using excerpts may be considered fair use, in most cases I don't believe that wholesale copying of the content would qualify as such. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:39, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Eyeshield 21 Wiki

Hi, it seems to be hard to get up momentum for the wiki. Also, I've noticed that the articles are not wikified yet; Ive tried my best to change one of them (see http://eyeshield21.wikia.com/wiki/Raimon_Taro here). I've also noticed that the only way to create new pages is to make a broken link in an existing page, then click on the broken link (as opposed to other wikis where you just type in what you want to create). Help with both of these issues would be much appreciated. 02:24, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] www.islandtrolltribes.wikia.com

Hi KyleH

I'm a fan of island troll tribes and i remember asking you to allow me to adopt a wiki last year. now what's happened is that the old bureacrat, the one that abandoned the wiki, has now taken it back and blocked me from it, after all the work that I've put into it (around 700 edits as opposed to him, who has made less than 40 edits). Also he hates me alot for standing up to his abuse. Is there any way you can resolve this?

Best regards,

[edit] Admin for Reborn! Wikia

The original Admin for the Wikia doesn't come around all that much(never) anymore, and I was hoping you could give me and another regular editor of the page administrative privilege. He and I edit mot often and most faithfully. And if you can spare some time, you could see how we have been trying to keep the wikia together. I say more on your talk on the Reborn! [edit] Reviving the Earthrise wiki

Hi Kyle! As recently my interest of the game Earthrise have increased, I'm looking forward to building on the Earhtrise wiki, there is only a few questions that I hope you could help me answer.

  1. I have contacted the local sysops that I found through searching (Common Sense(founder) and CHibi), but since they haven't been logged in for a while, I'm not sure that I will get any answers, if they are found missing from the face of the earth, is there a way to pass on the managing onto someone else without their consent?
  2. I would like to see that the wiki takes the Monaco shape since it is much more practical and has some neat features. Does it involve any problems or complications? And how advanced is it to reskin for a more fitting colour-scheme?

I'll be back if I have something more to add, greetings from Sweden! Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 14:28, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Just checking back in to tell you that I've had a chat with CHibi, things are under control, thanks anyway :) Sunspots {Talk | Contribs} 12:04, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Yup. You can check out traffic statistics on Quanticast. This page sorts wikis by global number of unique visitors, although that doesn't necessarily translate to traffic. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 20:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

how do they get those statistics? do you need to pass traffic information or what? -- Sixorish 23:14, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome user on the Combine OverWiki

Hi there, I wanted to know how to set an automatic signature in the Welcomeuser MediaWiki pages. Thanks for your help! Klow 10:53, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi! To change the message and signature that are left, you need to edit the MediaWiki messages associated with the tool. There are instructions and links to all of those messages here. Let me know if you need any more help! --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:06, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
I put @latest in MediaWiki:Welcome-user, but that doesn't seem to work. I mean, the message works, but it's not signed. And I don't understand the point "The welcome messages have four special variables". Where do I have to put those numbers?... Klow 22:12, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Ahhh, I see. What you need to do is just add "$3" (without the quotes) to MediaWiki:Welcome-message-user where you want the signature to appear. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:51, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Okaaay! Thanks! Klow 21:55, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] In the Night Garden - missing character

Hiya Kyle,

I do not plan to become a regular contributor, but whilst in charge of a 2-year old, I have been forced into some interest in kids' progs like "In the Night Garden".

I have been doing some editing tonight (mainly to correct English grammar, rather than content, although I have added a little to that). I noticed the absence of a character from the list - 'The Ball'. Whilst not a humanoid character, The Ball has particular properties, and I was trying to add it in order to detail some of them.

The front page of "In the Night Garden" has been locked so that I could not add it. Perhaps you could add it for me?

Thanks,

Harvey

Hi! Welcome to Wikia! I went ahead and unlocked the front page of the In the Night Garden wiki so that you can edit it yourself. Let me know if you need any more help. :) --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:54, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Kyle

Hi, Kyle, I couldn't figure out how to send a message from Twitter so I followed yoyr link from your page there. Unsolveled Mysteries is now on Spike TV. They're running restructured and recreated episodes from pre-existed cases from 11AM I think to 1PM before CSI NY. I hope you like the wikia page I made for the series. Some of the case files descriptions are sparase because of limited non-series resurces but i'm really hoping to get all the cases from the series listed and every other case refererenced to the show covered and cross-refrerenced in a way that fans can appreciate. Thor2000 15:15, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Awesome! Thanks for the info ... I'll have to be sure to catch those next time they're on. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Reborn! Administrators again

We gave Retro about 7 or 8 days to get back to us on that, and we(both Mastermarth and 1), have decided that that was enough time. So, I'm back here today to ask you to promote the two of us to administrators. We've really stepped up our editing, but there are still some things we can only do with administrative rights.

Foregoing Retro was something we probably needed to do, because it's starting to look like he rarely checks is talk page updates. So, thanks in advance for whatever input you decide on.Navyblack15 08:37, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Also, I just found out, when attempting to find some other admin or bureaucrat, I stumbled onto this page, which confirms that he's the only person above a regular user. And I found this page to say that me and Mastermarth4 not only log in muliple times every day, but also we have the two top revisions counts. While Retro7 has only edited 25 times himself.

Please, (s)he and I absolutely need admin-ship. I hope my case was persuasive enough. Navyblack15 18:31, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi! You can request to adopt the wiki and become an administrator here. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Help Special:Createpage is broken

On a wiki I have been editing a lot perl6.wikia.com the page Special:Createpage broke all of a sudden and I cannot really contribute that much anymore and I cannot figure how to contact the wiki administrator either. If anyone can help to fix Special:Createpage that would be great thanks.

We had some difficulty with Special:Createpage last week, but it appears to be working now. Are you still having difficulty? --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Starting the Forum

Hi, I edit regularly on the | RollerCoaster Tycoon Wiki, and I was wondering if you could please set up the forum. On the help wiki, it said that older wikis didn't have the forum automatically made, and to contact staff if this applied to you. Can you please make it? thanks--Matt 20 1 12:23, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Matt. These can easily be adapted by anyone from Wikia Starter, I went ahead and set them up for you. :) --CharitwoTalk 15:57, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome user on the Combine OverWiki, 2

Hi again. I was wondering if the signature of the latest admin would work if I put the welcome message as a template in the MediaWiki page. I wanted to do that so that I do further changes to the welcome message without creating inconsistencies within the user talk pages. Klow 12:26, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

The welcome tool automatically adds subst: to all templates, so while you can use a template in the welcome message, only the static wiki text gets included. This is done because changing the text on hundreds or thousands of user pages makes our servers slow. Fortunately, while this does mean that the user talk pages may be inconsistent, the users will almost always see the message as soon as it is left, so it will almost always be up-to-date when they first see it. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:40, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
So if I want it to be signed properly, I need to have the signature number outside of the template? And what is "subst:"? Klow 00:45, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

It is up to the local wiki admins to determine the local blocking policy and enforce it. You should talk to the admin who blocked you to discuss the block. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 00:41, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] HI! (From EIGAPEDIA)

Hello, I'm new on the wiki, I would like to know if you can tell me a page where I could download (from servers like Megaupload or Rapidshare) some of these japanese movies (if it includes subs, better yet). Thanks a lot, I found this wiki very helpful. Zeruel 25

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that I don't know of any. I imagine that the films are copyrighted, so I would recommend buying the DVDs online. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 18:12, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship and the Mythology Wiki

Hi there,

The individual who founded the Mythology Wiki hasn't contributed in two years. The wikia is suffering from terrible vandalisms and neglect. I've written quite a few articles, either under my own user name or anonymously, and undone quite a few vandalisms. Is there any way I could have administrative control of the Mythology Wiki so that I can block IP addresses that repeatedly vandalize the site?

Thanks!

[edit] Page Creation Limited

Hi Kyle,

I've run into a problem in creating pages for the Twilight Zone Wiki in creating pages. It is more or less the exact problem that Quizzical had in this forum post: Forum:Page creation disabled?

Like his situation, the only administrator seems to have bailed on the project or at least is taking a long break, so I can't ask him to help with anything. I saw that you were able to help Quizzical back in 2008, so I figured I'd ask for some help. If you can do anything to help remedy the situation or can offer some suggestions, I'd be very grateful. Thanks for any help you can offer,

Waxheadrobot 11:11, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Update: I don't know if you did something or the problem righted itself, but it's been resolved. Thanks either way!

can you please help me datman lock me out of inuyasha wiki can you please help me thanks sailormoon21

Hello! You should talk to Dantman about your block. It's not my place to override a block on a local wiki unless I believe that the local admin acted contrary to the best interest of the wiki. That is not the case here, so you'll have to talk to the admin that blocked you. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:10, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Admin/Bureaucrat Sous-vide Wiki

Hi KyleH,

I am Dr.med. Peter Gruber from Switzerland, in the sous-vide community I am called Pedro or PedroG http://sousvide.wikia.com/wiki/User:PedroG

I am engaged in home sous-vide cooking and I am in E-Mail contact with like-minded people, namely:

Bob Jueneman from Milpitas/California
Peter Black from Sydney/Australia
Frank Hsu from Toronto/Canada

We plan to activate the Sous-vide Wiki. Bob has prepared a Powerpoint presentation on Sous-vide cooking, Peter has published an article "Sous Vide@Home" on http://www.australiangourmetpages.com/ http://www.classic.com.au/wizard/SousVide.htm http://sousvide.wikia.com/wiki/Sous_Vide_@_Home, Frank is the one who sells us the PID-Controllers for our waterbaths (http://www.freshmealssolutions.com), and I myself might contribute technical hints on thermometer calibration, PID-Controller tuning, vacuuming etc., and I am trying to get into contact with specialists on food safety in Switzerland to make sure we will not publish and recommend anything that might kill people.

As some of my friends are afraid of vandalism on a wiki, we ask you to grant us administrator / bureaucrat rights.

And may I ask you for help on my User page http://sousvide.wikia.com/wiki/User:PedroG where I did not manage to get the Babelbox right-aligned.

Thank you very much, and kind regards --PedroG 13:39, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Pedro! It certainly looks like the Sous-vide Wiki could use an active administrator. Please post your request on the adoption requests page and Catherine will take care of that for you. Regarding your user page, I made an edit there which should make your language box right-aligned. Please let me know if you need any more help! --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:39, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Kyle! Thanks a lot, the Babelbox is now right-aligned. How can I get rid of the unnecessary spaces between some of the language boxes? I just made an article "°F-°C Conversion table"; is it possible to make it show up in the left sidebar so it is visible while reading other articles? Regards --PedroG 23:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC) The Problem of °F-°C Conversion table is solved, I put it in WikiPage. Language boxes are also better. How can I get Language Box and Image on the same line, using less vertical space? --PedroG 20:02, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Pedro. I made some tweaks to your user page. Moving the babel box to the top of the section did the trick. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:21, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sous-vide Wiki Multilingual ??

Hi Kyle,

as my native language is German, I might translate the key articles of Sous-vide Wiki to German. Should I create a new "German Sous-vide Wiki", or is it ok to make a Wiki multilingual?

Regards

--PedroG 23:29, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

It's generally better to create separate wikis for each language. You can create a new wiki for German here. Once that wiki is created, if you give me a link to it, I can enable interlanguage links for both wikis for you. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 23:23, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi Kyle,

thanks for your help! Here's the link to the German Sous-Vide Wiki: http://de.sousvide.wikia.com/wiki/Sous-Vide_Wiki

--PedroG 06:42, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Alright! I linked the two wikis. You should now be able to use interlanguage links. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 21:18, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sysop Status

Is there anyway to request for a wikia to have more sysops? We need some more on the One Piece Wikia but the only person who had bureaucrat status has not edited the wikia since early 2008 and that was only 4 edits. Drunk Samurai 08:32, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Skin Monaco

Hi, KyleH! Got a question: Are you a user of Wikia Staff? Yeah. I have a wiki and, although it is very advanced, but when I made a wiki for Skin monaco, ja ja joda. Anyway, See you! Pokémon493 - talk!

Yup! I'm a member of the Wikia Staff, and I'll be happy to help you customize Monaco if you need some help. You can also check out Help:Customizing Monaco. --KyleH@Wikia (talk) 22:01, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Je je je thanks KyleH. I said that the wiki is not very advanced. Although I would like more information when you have a new skin, if I decide I do not like Monaco or the WikiDex but if you want help, it will be a pleasure to help me! Oh and if you can translate some messages to Spanish, I understand better, because my native language is Spanish. Pokémon493 SuperMarioWiki- talk!

[edit] Default interface language and bug

Well, whlie EVCHK updates to MediaWiki 1.14, there are a few problems.

The "language" of links had been changed to simplified Chinese, such as changing Special:Preferences to Special:参数设置. Even changed Language setting in my preferences, the "language" still stucks on S.Chinese. How to change it back to English, for easy input in pages?

EVCHK is just a traditional Chinese site introducing web culture of Hong Kong. Also, there is no any plan to make it inherently multilingual. But, it is too diffical to force the default interface language for all users or made interfaces synchronization with zh- perfix languages. Are there any ways for that?

Bug:The links of Unused categories and Unused templates are both directed to Unused templates Special pages on EVCHK. Please fix that. --疾風綾希 14:19, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

How do you remove categories in blog listings? --Bentendo

[edit] I'm sorry :(

Hiya Kyle, a GuildWikian here. :) First of all, thanx for always trying to help out communities instead of just "putting in the hours".

I recently started my own site UnAnswers@Wikia. It's based on Answers@Wikia, except it goes for the funny approach. It's... not a good site if you actually want to learn something ;). I've applied for a spotlight, as we're growing steadily, but our kind of site would benefit more from lots of users occasionally popping in, atm we've a few really dedicated people, but that just doesn't suit the type of wiki we are (nobody thinks of several funny jokes a day every day).

While that'd help greatly, I have to admit I'm pretty... restless. I really have a strong desire to customize the site as much as possible. Now, I apologize for hounding you about something over a year old - feel free to tell me to get lost - but I couldn't help but notice this. This really interested me, of course. The idea of a Wikia guru personally helping people with customizing skins really got my attention, and I couldn't help but admire Wikia even more for it. Playing with skins cannot possibly be a profitable end of the spectrum, so it really shows that Wikia cares about it's communities.

Sorry for the small novel I'm writing here, I'm legendary for writing "short notes" like this one. I was just wanting to know if such a thing would be possible for Answers@Wikia. We pretty much got a copy & paste job from them, so what's impossible for them is... unfortunate for us.

I'd be very grateful if you could tell me if our site's limitations would get in the way of this We can't change the skin in preferences. I'd mostly just love to change the white background to a dark gray (#2D2D2D I like) with the text white by default, something rather akin to WoW, I'm also in love with their approach to sections, truth be told :)

So... yeah, sorry again about the size of all of this. If you could tell me if such a thing is possible for us, or point me in the direction of a different Wikia person to go throw WoTs at, please do :) To be honest, I know it's already a pretty custom style, and we had a few database errors when we first started, so I'm too frightened to go play with this kind of coding until someone says it's safe.

Thanks for your time (reading all of this must've taken a fair while), Kyle. A F K When Needed 12:11, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] ...nope...

Well, I've played around with my own personal settings, and looks like the Answers skin doesn't support it at all :/
Don't suppose you know who I should go to about that? A F K When Needed 16:56, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
