OpenOffice (StarOffice) has had regex search for decades. :-D --◄mendel► 21:02, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't surprise me that other applications adopt the novel attitude of observing rather than inventing new standards. Whereas staroffice may have had regex, it was not purchased by sun until 1999, so "decades" is a bit of a stretch. I dunno- google has something too so our wiki will have to investigate these if we document use of wp's for any serious number of users. Right now, we only mention it for rare geeky tasks. Some of my linguistic software happens to be in word, but I am not partisan on this sort of matter. ~ Phlox 18:41, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
