[edit] Google Indexing?

Hi Richard! Its been more than a week since I started the IGI Wiki and as you can see here, I've listed it on many different websites (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), and added my site manually (twice!) using the "Add URL to Google" page, as recommended by the Wikia SEO help.

But yet, its not indexed by Google. What gives? Whats wrong? Should I wait some more time?

Hi Richard, I want to edit a custom template that I made for my wiki, but it's been so long since I last worked with templates that I forgot how to get in there. The Wiki:Help section seems to be inaccurate regarding how live templates are formed and where, so it has been of no use to me. I can't find where the templates are kept! Can you help me? When creating a new page it asks the user to "choose a page type". This is a basic question I know but how do I edit/create/delete these templates? I have edited some templates in the templates section but these do not seem to alter the templates used in "choose a page type". The templates that are there are good for general RPG but not quite what I need for the Athalandar wiki. Thanks for taking time to help us out. MurlynLAN.

Hi there, Thank you for looking upon my wiki. I was wondering how you create templates and get them to work for each page. I have tried, but I think I am doing something wrong. Would it be posible to give me a demonstration I have tried the wiki help pages but none of them seem to help. I have tried something such as:

Hello, I'm Creepydude, from the Call of Duty Wiki. I have a question, and a request. On Call of Duty Wiki, can we have a "recent forum discussion" tab somewhere? I believe I saw one on Gaming Wiki. Just a tab up top where it says what is currently being talked about. However, I actually find those to be a little annoying, because if you accidentally hit "collapse" or whatever it says, there is no going back. What would be most convenient would be a "recent discussions" template on the sidebar to the left. Now Call of Duty Wiki is not a very big wiki, but I think just this simple feature, even if it were on the top bar, would be very convenient and worth it. If you have been watching the Temple of Courage Peanut Gallery lately, you will then know that I have been trying to find out wheather or not I can create a user page if I am unable to become an official user. The only way I can ask this question after having stated it is, "Can I?" Sincerelly, Watcher.

I left you an answer at Zeldapedia[1] but it seems like your IP changes once in awhile. I'll post this message on my talk page too.
Do you mean like, for example, saying your username is "Cool Guy" but you haven't made an account? You shouldn't really do this as someone else may use that username or someone else may create that username in the future, and if that user was to come to this wiki and see someone else using that username, there might be a problem. Anyway, creating a username isn't hard, you don't even need to register your email, and registered users have more options than anonymous users.--Richardtalk 19:30, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello there

i am attempting to get the travians wiki site up and running, except a couple of things are making it difficult, first off, i am doing it on my own and there are no administrators, as such it would be benifical if i was one.

Also, as i edit the pages, adverts are allways appearing in the top right of the corner, which is making it difficult, i have been trying to possition a picture in that corner so it completely messes up the layout, is there a way of removing this advert? i have seen it removed on other wikia sites

Hi, I'm Aburnett001, an administrator on the Castle Crashers Wiki. I'm leaving this message for you because I'm a little concerned about the fact that our only bureaucrat has become (as far as I can tell) inactive. Being that this leaves our wiki "high and dry" in terms of promoting new sysops (if we ever need any more) and performing other upper-administrative operations, I was wondering if there was any way that I could be promoted to a bureaucrat. Hopefully with two bureaucrats present, we would always have one active 'crat available to take care of the wiki. If this is not possible, I was just wondering if you have any suggestions on what we should do about not having an active bureaucrat on our wiki. Hello, in response to your offer of help at www.vog.wikia.com. We are looking for help to create several large structures of data that each can have identically named articles, but will not link outside of their subject to other structures.

Example: Subject "Cabal Online" has an article named "Cash Shop" that has cabal only details. Subject "Requiem" has an identically named article, but it contains different data about Requiem only.

Obviously if this works when I do this I will already know my answer, but in order for me to make more than one section in a page, all I need to do is have several headings and it will just automatically have the links?

I found a new wiki on Animal Crossing: City Folk. Great! It's completely empty so far. I've added a couple of articles and fixed up the main page, but I can't edit the logo since it's locked. How does a wiki usually get started and set up with admins, etc?

Greetings! Would you be ever so kind as to drop by Five Rooms Wiki and build a short Createplate/Infobox for me? If you've ever heard of the five-room dungeon, that's what this wiki is dedicated to.

Basically, the Createplate can be called "5RD" and will contain six sections:

  • Introduction
  • Room One: Entrance And Guardian
  • Room Two: Puzzle Or Roleplaying Challenge
  • Room Three: Trick or Setback
  • Room Four: Climax, Big Battle Or Conflict
  • Room Five: Reward, Revelation, Plot Twist

The associated infobox would need to have only two entries:

  • Name
  • Suggested Level

Hello Rich,

This is ajman098 from the Kingdom of Orna Wiki, and I wanted to thank you for your message. As a matter of fact I do have an important question. I'm designing my wiki around a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that I'm in the middle of writing, and it would help me if I could use some of the images Wizards of the Coast has made available on their website. Do you know what the rules regarding copyright information I should know for this?

The way I see it, I have 3 options... 1) Use their large database of images to make putting this wiki together go much faster (so long as my use follows copyright law) and should that not be allowed/legal, 2) Contact Wizards and get their approval for my use of images (does that ever happen these days?!) and failing that, 3) Draw every image myself or pull it from the public domain (sigh). So I guess any info related to my situation would be helpful.

I realize this is a jumble of thoughts, so if you have any questions about what I'm asking don't hesitate to ask me for clarification.

[edit] A Very Risky Question

Hey Richard, I wanted to ask you this here instead of over at the MetalGearWiki because it concerns a certain IP user who keeps vandalizing and harassing our users. He's gotten into the habit of reverting things purely for the sake of it. Every time we ban him he simply comes back later with a slightly different IP address, and then proceeds to taunt me, commenting that we'll never be able to get rid of him and that I'm too stupid to find a way to ban him permanently. You may have noticed his presence. He commented recently that his ability to change his IP address is because he has a "dynamic IP modem." I'm literally sick and tired of seeing him harassing other users. That's why I wanted to suggest a possible Range Block to prevent him from editing. Now, as harsh as this IP might be, he's actually right in calling me stupid. I have no idea how I would go about setting this Range Block up. That's why I wanted to ask you two questions: 1) Is it against any rules Wikia have to put this into effect? 2) Is it possible you could set this up for us? I've noticed the last few IP addresses he's been using all start with "97.106" if that helps. If you need me to provide a general list of IP's he's been using I should easily be able to do that for you. hey, got a problem using the RSS feed...

unknown why but for some reason the RSS feed does not auto update on frontpage... it only changes when i actualy press edit and then save again, i dont have to edit anything just actualy save then it gets the new feed

Thanks for your kind offer to help, so far trial & error is cutting it, and Createplates is looking like an enormous bonus, the first one is almost done & I think will make it a lot easier for people to add stuff. You are sure to hear from me when I manage to get past the basics. It's a bonus to be building this as the module is being built - nobody is looking just yet, so I have a chance to really get it going & the structure & templates all in place, it will be a month or so before people using the test module are going to have stuff to add. Can I use Special:Export and Special:Import to transfer pages. The problem with Special:Export is that some of the namespaces are different in both wikis. Is there any way I can correct that? GT5162 22:27, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
If the licenses are compatable, you may import them and leave a template like {{wikipedia}} on it. I don't know about the namespace, but you could probably just move it to the correct namespace after you import it. — Image:BalisticSig.png 22:54, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
