It seems the Babelbox2 doesn't work normally. Danielwang want to standardize all babel templates into a CSS style. But now the layout is not right. I believe he is working on it. As I'm not familiar with CSS, I just hope he can accomplish his mission.

One thing strange to ThQn is when I use Help:Contents as you suggested, it always link to http://thqn.wikia.com not go to help on http://www.wikia.com and many of internal links within Wikia always be like that!

As far as I can tell, none of the meatball wiki tours link to wikia. It looks like MemoryAlpha is on the "Eclectic Wiki Tour". Thanks all the work you're doing on this! I changed the notice on the Tucson home page from a request for adoption to say that changes should no longer be made there. Since it's had such low traffic, I'm not sure that a freeze is even necessary. Feel free to ask for one, though, if you want.

Hi Robin _Im away from home for the weekend but when I get back I will move all my pages across to my sandbox using the tip you gave me. I do appreciate you keeping an eye on me. My application seems to have fallen into a black hole. I resubmitted it a couple of days ago to try and gee them up but have heard nothing. Thanks again for your sound advise. I am in a flurry of activity and its hard to keep all the balls in the air at the same time. Forgot to follow your tip on case even though I digested it at the time so learnt the hard way and had to move a number of pages to get the consistency. Hope things calm down next week. I feel I have made good progress tho', enough to start getting other people involved. What do you do about backing up your sites? I would hate to lose all my hard work. Keep popping by. [edit] Genealogy Wikia vandalism

There's a huge amount of vandalism over at the Genealogy Wikia, Robin. Just thought you'd like to know. I reverted some of it but I don't have a lot of time today. Also, do you know if it's possible to "semi-protect" pages or even entire Wikis in Wikia? I sincerely believe it would solve 90% of the vandalism problems if users were required to log in using a user name before editing. It would also be a better solution than fully protecting articles and main pages, which negates the idea of all users being allowed to contribute. I'd love to hear your views on this. But I had not used the starter wiki yet, mainly because I already had a fair number of pages before I saw it, and I thought it only had about three pages.

Hi. I believe that those pages fell under CSD #4 (Very short pages with little or no context). All of the three pages had only one edit to each, and those were (as stated in the deletion summary):

From WP:CSD, pages that are "test pages (e.g., "Can I really create a page here?") can be speedily deleted. I'm sure that Wikia's not going to have a wiki about New York or even USA for a while, so I think it was the right thing to speedy delete those pages, as that user might've been looking for World Wikia, for example. Central Wikia is not a place for people to post test pages or off-topic content. First of all, there wasn't really content to preserve in that specific situation, unless you'd prefer it if something like

or a link to the deletion summary was left on the user's talk page (which I felt unnecessary and unsuitable for that case because that would, in a way, imply that the user does not remember the names of the 3 places he/she created pages on, which may be insulting: "Hi! In case you forgot, here are the page titles with their respective abbreviation expansion: USA->United States of America, USA/New York->New York, USA/New York/New York->City of New York"). To be honest, I feel that I'm quite generous with {{i}}, and if those pages had a paragraph or even a few sentences, I would've used it and allow time to transfer actual informational content.
As for the "pointing" part, I noticed that it wasn't the first time the user saw a wiki, as he/she already requested the Government wiki (which was approved). Therefore, I felt that he/she already knew what he/she will be doing (the Government wiki) and that it might not be entirely necessary to direct him/her to Scratchpad or the Requests wiki (since that already took place!).
One could argue that all pages, no matter how short, can theoretically be improved and made meaningful. Therefore, if a user comes along and makes pages like:

they should all be {{i}}'d and deleted only after a full 7 days, because they could be careful attempts to start a meaningful set of pages about common everyday life abbreviations (and they all have the potential of great expansion) and simply an honest mistake, and they shouldn't be speedied because they aren't really vandalism/spam/anything offensive? (The examples are not much different from actual pages, which were basically stating the abbreviation of titles that are common in everyday life.) In that case, one would have to treat any page creation, no matter how small, as an opportunity for expansion, so what good is {{delete}}? The only problem in that system is that there might be an overflow of {{i}}'s, especially if this becomes more common with more people (I'm not sure if pages with similar content would go through an AfD or a PROD on Wikipedia). Then again, if the intent is to allow time on all page creations (no matter how small), what makes 7 days a long enough period? Who knows, the newcomer might simply be dropping by, but won't get to see the notice until the 8th day due to a busy week, putting the original intention in vain and yielding the same results as an earlier deletion. Wouldn't that be a pity for somebody doing something good?

Hi,

I just read your post on go.org.nz. I'm the sysadmin there but am not in charge of content. I have recently shifted the site from running in my hot-water cupboard to running in the US and am trying to get it running a bit more smoothly.

I'd love a hand managing the site, I periodically log into WikiSysop and purge spammers but at the same time I want to keep access as open as possible so that casual users can add pages when they're having a tournament.

At your suggestion I've set the default licence to GFDL, though I'm not entirely sure I can do that since I didn't write most of the content - Edwin did.

Hi, there's no need in Category:Australia there, because this category is a redirect to Category:Oceania, but including a page into a category which is a redirect doesn't mean including it into the target category. So noone could find this page by category name 'Australia', people will be redirected to 'Oceania'. I've come to this page to change category to Oceania, however when I've found that it's a forum page (see what other pages in Category:Oceania are), I've simply removed it. If you want, you may change the category to Category:Oceania, but there is no sense in leaving it in Category:Australia as you did. Медиа (Media) 08:08, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, in that case, I think you made a typo. It should be "Project:General disclaimers" instead of "Wikia disclaimers". Proj:General disclaimers is the one being linked to by virtually every article in the CologneBlue skin, whereas nothing actually links to Project:Wikia disclaimers. Additionally, I think probably makes more sense to edit messaging.wikia.com so that the disclaimer link on CologneBlue points to Central Wikia's page directly by default (and then delete the page from starter). If you think that makes sense too, I'll ask the staff to change the link's destination to central. Bot work is really something simply broken down to:

  1. Grab a list of pages to work on
  2. Grab the content from a page
  3. Modify that content
    1. Ask for confirmation if needed
  4. Put the content back onto the page

Really the most complex step is the modification of the content. Source? No, I won't provide a source. Would a third-grade teacher provide sources on how to use periods, commas, and semi-colons to their students? Opinions and ideas need sourcing, not knowledge (and no, I will not define knowledge for you; just know that "stop signs are red" doesn't need citations). You should've learned the difference between an emdash and an endash when you were twelve.

Emdashes are used when a sentence or thought is interrupted. For example,

"What were you thinking when you —" <punched>.

Endashes are used for pauses that aren't interruptions. For example,

"I really wanted to tell him – please believe me – what truly happened."

"Traditionally" refers to the period that includes the school year during which I was twelve. And the New Zealand publishing division of Thomson-Reuters uses the em dash as I do.

Hi. Yes I thought about it and I must admit that Zurdj made a very great job even if he is not a native French speaker. I already noticed some weird translations (a bit corrected on our wiki) but I was waiting for my accounts to be merged into Wyz before doing something - lostpedia has been imported and I had 3 Wyz accounts on it (there was not one account for all the languages version) and they conflicted with a Wyz on Wikia. BTW my English account (LOST-Wyz) has been merged but not yet LOSTFR-Wyz which has the sysop rights on French lostpedia. When I will be back as Wyz I will try to help. Ok lets first start with the 2 versions [Old version] and [New version]

Now as you can see im using monobook since its more easy to spot the issue and if you compare both pages you will see that the menu of the old version is move down also various texts are shrink. In monaco versions the difference is that the menu is push to the top covering the logo of the wiki. Also that indentation is not display. Thats for the visual issues

Now due to MediaWiki software rules you when you use : you need to put all in the code in the same line where the : started other way it will be left out eg :<div class="notice metadata plainlinks" id="stub" style="clear:both;"> ---- ''bla link. bla link.''</div>

Will translate to the following code

  </dd>

as you can see the start of div its wraped in a dl and dl tags those are created by the : and since there is no closing of the div tag inside the dd tag it creates that issue since we dont have HTML tidy activate this must be properly coded. Mixing wiki code and html can be some times tricky since many of the basic wiki codes has strict requirements like their own starting line. eg: 

:this is an example of a ---- (line) being in the middle of the text wiki code
this is an example of a ---- (line) being in the middle of the text wiki code 
:this is and example of a
----
being in the middle of a text coded
this is and example of a

being in the middle of a text coded 

:this is an example of a <hr /> (line) being in the middle of the text with html

If you want to use the : then you need to put all in a single line and sacrifice the ---- for a <hr />. Other thing you can do is to add the marging directly to the div

Because my time is limited at the moment, I want to concentrate on putting person pages on first and, once that it done, I will start looking at some of the places in South Australia. Hello, I am DarkLantern one of the other administrators at One Wiki to Rule them All. For months now I have been campaigning for user participation in article merging there and recently, changes to the Sidebar to include links to things like Category:Characters, Races, Places, Objects, to give the visitor a convenient way of finding what they what to find.

I was wondering as you are also an administrator there that you would like to participate in this.
