Hi, we don't do name changes on Wikia - because of the shared database. If someone wants to change his username, the best way is to make a new account.

Hi, please ask him to use Special:Contact on any wiki to contact us directly... with as much detail as possible. We need to know any error messages, exactly what he sees (a screenshot is always useful), what browser he uses, what page he is trying to access (the exact URL), whether he is logged in at the time, whether he has problems on other sites, and any other info he can give. Hi, if you select an expiry time of "other", you can type any length of time in there. But I would say that it's very rare that you need to do more than a year. The chances of him coming back after a year and trying to edit again are remote :) -- sannse (talk) 00:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the slow reply. The wiki is set to only allow logged in users to edit, but that includes talk pages too. So I'm not clear on what he's seeing. If he still has the problem, it's best that he mails us via Special:Contact, with as much detail about the problem as possible. A screenshot can help too. Hello Sannse, right to business. I have left the Aoe3 Wiki issue alone, but Neverspat hasn't he has blocked me for asking him to merge with the AoE Wiki. I have made very attempt to rectify the situation, and did so before the person needed staff help. Speaking as the accused: If someone is unjustly banned, why don't you just unban them? The thing here is that it's up to the admins of the wiki itself to decide who/why they block, and as Kyle noted above, it won't affect anything. In reality, nobody will even see that wiki, nor will anybody that doesn't visit the wiki ever find out you were blocked. Unfortunately, blocks can happen for less than regular rules (or ideas...), and I have even had my own experiences there but it's nothing to worry about. The simplest advice you can have for problem wikis like this is to just ignore it. You don't want to edit there, don't need to, so forget it. Nobody cares you got blocked on some problem wiki, so you have nothing to lose, contrast to the wasted time and staff resources used to protest blocks like these :). ~Joey~ ^Talk^ 01:58, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

I feel dumb by asking, but I just found an old message from you in my Talk page. In that message, you asked if you can help me, leave a message in here. So, I just wanted to ask, when you create an account, what are the risks when making a wikia account? The reason I wanted to ask was because I have to deal with a guy in Pirates of the Caribbean wikia, who I don't see eye-to-eye right now. So, I thought about making an account to deal with him (or her). But before I do, I am just asking if I should make an account to deal with him (or her), or not.

Hi :) There are no risks that I can think of... you don't even have to give Wikia your email address if you don't want to. And if you do, it's only seen by Wikia staff (unless you reply to an email sent by another user). And if you do set an email, you can change your preferences to stop all email coming to you from Wikia and from other users.

We recommend setting an email address though, because otherwise you won't be able to recover the account if you lose your password. But then you could always make a new account if that happened, so it's up to you. -- sannse (talk) 02:07, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it's possible to get in trouble for copying someone else's work without permission... but that's true whether you have an account or not. [edit] Odd broken image on runescape wikia's forums

I'm not sure if anyone reported this one when it first started earlier this year, but on the runescape wikia forum (http://runescape.wikia.com/forum/) which is using the phpBB form, there is an "broken" image in front of the first forum ("Tavern").

The image src is "./sannse", which expands to "http://runescape.wikia.com/forum/sannse" (which is not a valid image, but actually returns page not found). I'm wondering, since the image path seems to match your name, if know anything about it. Amaurice (talk) 15:51, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

I'm a computing science master student at Federal Univesity of Minas Gerais - Brazil and Im doing a reasearch about automatically quality assessment of wiki articles. My last article can be seen here: http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1555449

Because of that, I used the wiki api (http://starwars.wikia.com/api.php) to extract all the average votes of an article, but I'm needing to get how many times one article have been voted, because if an article has been voted more than once it might be better than other that has been voted for only one user. Is there any way that I can get this data?

[edit] Eberron Wiki has been abandoned

Hi Sansse,

As you may recall, some new users at Eberron Wiki proposed that the wiki change from a 'fanon wiki' (a wiki of fan fiction) to a 'canon wiki' (an encyclopedia similar to Forgotten Realms Wiki). This is a major U-turn, so I was a bit worried that these new users might steamroller their way over older users if proper consultation was not started.

Then I found out that someone had somehow killed the forum. You recently offered to help fix the forums, however it turns out that the situation over there is more serious than I thought it was. The only bureaucrat on the wiki has abandoned the wiki.

I don't know what the procedure is for getting a new admin, but the wiki needs to have the process started. TOR (who is a Wikia staff member) is also a sysop at Eberron Wiki. I have contacted them and the seven users with more than 100 edits to try to get them to contribute to the process of deciding the future of this wiki.

I know very little about Eberron, but would love to see this setting get an encyclopedia that is as useful as Forgotten Realms Wiki. But I don't feel that it is fair for new users to come in and change the entire focus of a wiki without the old users getting a fair chance to keep its original vision. (I actually want exactly the same thing that the new contributors want to see, but the old function was also a valid one).

So if you could get the forums working, as you offered, that would be extremely useful.

And if Wikia has any sort of help for election of a new bureaucrat, I'd be grateful if you could post a link over there.

Would it also be possible for you, or someone else in the Wikia staff to put up some sort of alert that ensures that all the other users know what is happening?

Someone has pointed out that if the wiki changes focus there are nearly 900 pages that will all need to be checked to see if they contain fanon or canon. I don't know if there is anyway to automatically put all of the pages into some sort of 'this needs to be checked' category, but I think the canon-wanters need to be given some advice on how much work their change in focus might be creating.

Finally, if I haven't already given you enough problems: if the users want to try to put both canon and fanon on the same wiki, I personally think that would be very difficult to do, but if people vote to do that, I think the will need advice on creating a new namespace as well as categories and templates that help instantly make the two types of content look different.

I'll try and pop over to fix the forums this evening - it's certainly a good way to get conversations going

How the community chooses to select new admins and bureaucrats is up to you. I'd suggest simply talking it over in the forum

I can understand your worries about new users over-riding the preferences of the older users, but remember that communities always change over time :) The best thing to do is discuss it as a group, and consider the many options. you could split in to more than one wiki, or use separate namespaces for fanon and canon, or choose to concentrate on one area, or use the blogs for fanon, or many other ways of organizing the wiki!

You could probably get help from the Central Forums if you want a bot to add a "check" category to all pages. There are lots of users that can do this sort of change.

Any admin on Eberron can set a site notice, that will let people know of the discussions.

Have I missed anything? Basically, my advice is to talk it over, and take it slow. Remember, it's a wiki! It doesn't all have to be changed at once. You can make your decisions as a community, and work on making the wiki be what you want it to be over time. Have fun! -- sannse (talk) 23:56, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

Hi Electre. My French is much more of a problem! Which is really the issue with the Dofus page. I can see that it is likely to be rather offensive, perhaps even to the level of it being a legal issue, but I don't have the French knowledge to really assess it well. I was hoping that the admins would be able to look and see if it should be on the wiki... perhaps a rewrite would be best? Hi, the first thing to do is to remind them that using the content from another wiki requires attribution (unless they are the sole authors of the article). It's OK to use content from other wikis, but you need to include on each page the source of the text. A sysop on Smash Wiki called PenguinofDeath has banned me and my two friends (Ba-boom headshot!!! and MaxPain90) because we use the same IP. He accuses us of sock puppetrey because another person on our wiki was a real sockpuppet. I requested unblock for the three of us but he hasn't responded even though he is currently editing other pages. We edit in a computer lab with multiple computer. I ask you again. Please give the IP 83.161.230.43 a cross wikia bann. That means a block on every single wikia there is. I am sure such an action is a possibility. And this IP has been vandalising ever since 2007 on every single wikia it is on. The user (Pierlot, Klaast, PatatjeOorlog) curses, threatens other users repeatedly and removes text from articles. He has been given numerous changes. Not just one. Or two. Or even ten chances. No. He has been given as many as 30 chances if not more. And now it is over. Only a crosswiki bann can stop him. Hi, yes it's spam. We get rather a lot of Russian spam across Wikia for some reason. The best way to check is to paste the content into Google translate, that usually shows if it's the random type text that comes with spam.
