[edit] Promotion of 2 wikias and lost password to mailing lists

Hello,

Sorry to leave this message, but, I lost my password to the mailing list page and the administrator's page as well. How do I retrieve this? Secondly, I like to promote Soap Opera and Roller Derby wikias on wikipedia. Is this allowed? If not, you should think about The Sims Wikia is promoted on the wikipedia site. Thanks for your help. Sundogs user talk | Soap Operas Wiki 19:47, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

For the mailing list, you just need to go to http://lists.wikia.com/mailman/listinfo/list-name (replacing "list-name) to go to the right list) and then scroll to the bottom. There is a place there to enter your email address and recover your password. I don't know what page you mean by "the administrator's page", but if you mean for the mailing list, and your password doesn't work when you recover it, I can reset it for you.
On Wikipedia, they tend not to like people using their site for anything they regard as promotion... so you should be very careful what you add there. You should be sure that you are adding links to useful content and more information, rather than just links that don't really add anything to the article. Have a look though their policies first, and then be careful to follow them. That should help -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
I meant the administrators interface page and that's why I called it the administrators page. I don't see the recover password section that you were talking about. Am I missing something? Sundogs user talk | Soap Operas Wiki 14:39, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
What list is it that you are looking for? There doesn't seem to be one for soaps or ewrestling. The link should be on the bottom of the info page. I can check what's going on more clearly with the name of the list though :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 10:53, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Liberapedia

I can't patrol Liberapedia at the moment. My computer slows every time I try to access it. I don't know what's wrong. With sites outside Wikia the computer functions normally. Proxima Centauri 19:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what's going on here, there isn't enough information for me to know what's wrong. Did you change anything on your computer? Or any of the css/js pages on the wiki? I've not heard of this happening to anyone else, so it may be something your end -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:07, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Necyklopedie needs your assistance

Hi, Sannse, Szoferka told me you could help us.

We have had some inactive Sysops and Bureaucrats (Imperatori) at Necyklopedie, whose Sysop and/or Bureaucrat rights we need to take away (call off). These are:

  • Aktron
  • KluSi
  • Svišť
  • Zanatic

The discussion about the issue is here: Neaktivní správci. Aktron has agreed here: [1] Zanatic has agreed here: [2] Svišť and KluSi reacted here: [3] Neither of them have been active for a very long time.

What we need from you: As none of the present Sysops and Bureaucrats have the right to call off the right of another Sysop and/or Breaucrat, we have to aske you or some of your colleagues: Either take their Sysop and Bureaucrat rights off, or assign an Bureaucratof Necyklopedie the rights do handle this Group of users (i.e. assigning and seizing the Sysop and Bureaucrat rights).

Thank you for your assistance.--Zylbrsztajn 22:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] deadminship

Hello, Sannse. This is Bluerfn, a sysop from the Square Wikia. Some months ago I requested the deadminship of User:Hexedmagica. Today, I would like to see it done. Furthermore, I left the wikia inactive for awhile now, and am only now going to start working on it. So, if you would kindly please deadmin the user. I doubt he will care even I ask him about the matter. Bluer 14:53, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Bluer, this is done -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:04, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] help!!!!

we have an emergency in eincyclopedia! recently the article god has been featured and one of our users got angry (hes a religious Jew) and then he opened a society against the article. eventually he stopped after he was explained that there was nothing he can do (he wanted to sue eincyclopedia) but now we have a bigger problem: one of our sysop, also a religious Jew, got angry as well and started blocking users, cursing, and threatening. for the well being of eincyclopedia I ask for the sysop Yanon (user page) to be revoked of his sysop rights ASAP. {{SUBST:ס:משתמש:raymondAK-47/חתימה!}} 15:03, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've discussed this with other staff and with a respected Hebrew speaking member of the English Uncyclopedia, and have removed the admins rights until the problems can be discussed by the bureaucrats and community. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:05, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
thank you so much. no that the grounds are even maybe we can resolve this argument. {{SUBST:ס:משתמש:raymondAK-47/חתימה!}} 14:04, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Report a Problem

Yesterday discontinued full-page display much pages. For example Regál lidé. Poblem = Uncorrect imaging template HS. --Ervinpospisil 09:37, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

OK? I will try to explain what has happened. Necyklopedie suffers from bad imaging. Some templates seem not to be working properly, as they image parts of the code e.g. {{{2}}} instead of the content it should image. see Regál lidé. --Zylbrsztajn 10:01, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

It seems there is a problem with how the system is handling templates that contain html. This has been reported, and should hopefully be fixed soon. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:55, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, it was OK last week, but now are some templates displayed incorrectly. For example template Quote in http://necyklopedie.wikia.com/wiki/Alpa. --Karkos 11:13, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pac-Man Wiki

The Pac-Man Wiki has alot of potential considering the amount of franchise under the tittle. However presently the site is virtualu empty, and almost everything on the site so far, was done by me. [edit] Wiki Charmed

Hello there ! I'm not entirely sure that you're the person I should be going to and if not, please, feel free to send me off to whoever I should be talking to !

I'm quite an active user on the Charmed wiki along with the user, LeoandPiper, and we were both wondering if it would be possible to become admins. We have been there for a lengthly period of time, made countless categories, pages, redirects, editing the main page and even reverting edits by a vandal ! In the frequent user list, LeoandPiper is the top user, ahead of both admins and I am third, just below one, but I have a feeling I shall soon get ahead as I'm only a few edits behind LeoandPiper. To cut this long message short, could we become admins soon (Liutenant Ayala hasn't made any edits for a while and I believe Darlene for is gone from that wiki). If possible, please reply on my user page on the Charmed wiki ([4]). -  2Anthony4  Talk   Contributions 21:21, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry ! I'm just after reading the template for adopting wikis ! I'll go ahead and ask there. -  2Anthony4  Talk   Contributions 21:27, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image overlap

The header/footer ads are now overlapping the mainspace - the bottom on normal articles, and the top during actions, making it difficult to move and delete articles.Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day. But set him on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life. 03:38, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, can you give me more details on this please? I know of a problem during deleting/restoring/moving pages (we are working on this one - it's most strange) but not on articles themselves... What pages are you seeing this on? Is it with some ads or all? What browser and operating system do you use? Are you logged in or out when you see this? Can you upload a screenshot of what you see? Thanks for the help -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:12, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
The problems with 200-OK showing up should be gone now. Please let me know if you are seeing any other problems -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Problem: Templates at Necyklopedie

The problem at the Czech Necyklopedie I reported on 8th October 2008 is back again. The templates do not show properly. Many of the templates show a part of the code instead of the content of a parameter. Can you help us, please? --Zylbrsztajn 18:34, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, this is turning out to be a difficult one to fix. What we know so far is that it seems to be due to a change in the wiki software that isn't working with the old parser, but we need to do more checks before we switch people over. I'll look at Necyklopedie next, and see if we can move you to the new parser. If we can, that should fix the template problem. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:50, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blocking Anonomous Edits

Is there a way to make our wiki c:Ikariam not allow you to make page edits unless you register 1st - ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 19:44, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Morph. Yes, it's possible, it just has to be set by staff. I can do this, if you are certain it's what you want for the wiki. Anons may cause problems sometimes, but they are also a good source of new editors. I noticed it was said on your talk page that Wikipedia doesn't allow anon editing... but they do, and always have. Most people try out the wiki first and then log in. But let me know what you want, and I will make the switch if necessary. Regards -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:43, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Check User

Hello, just requesting what should be a quick one, here's the two accounts in question:

  • Guthix2345
  • Guthix5234

Thanks in advance (obviously I doubt the names are a coincidence,if they are I'll eat my hat).--Azaz129 02:06, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Well, the IPs don't match... they show as different ISPs and different states. It's possible the user is playing with open proxies, although it doesn't look as though these are listed as such. Or it's possible you have two guys who know each other and are playing games. I would recommend that you keep an eye on them and ban if you need to -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:59, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] You promised

Dear Sannse, here you promised to close our Wiki on 17th of October. Today is 19th, Wiki was not closed and your inactivity works toward new acts of vandalism again. How do you think, is it normal people? What would you feel if every day such vandals harm at your Wiki? I ask you to stop this ugliness by closing our Wiki. Unfortunately, I do not know how to stop vandals in another way. Nevertheless having been blocked they always create new accounts and continue to harm. I hope, you'll help us to resolve our problem. Best regards. -- Salex 08:57, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] SCA wiki not displaying properly

Hi Sannse, SCA wiki has been working fine for me, but I heard from someone else that when they went to it they got a (main) page from 30 September each time (Main page and comm portal have 'today cell's on). I had thought this was 'cause they hadn't refreshed the page, but when I saw it today refresh made no difference and the main page wasn't displaying properly (more like a list of content without proper layout). Also when I went to the comm portal it only gave Saturday's date, although I have been editing and creating new content today. I am really quite concerned about this, as if the wiki has been displaying incorrectly over the last three weeks this unfortunately coincides with Green wiki getting publicity (which may have been useful to SCA), and also independent promotion of SCA over that time. Hope you can help. Philralph @sca21 20:21, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi Philralph. We had a problem with one of the servers the day you wrote this (sorry for the slow reply) and all should be fine now. I've not heard of any longer-term problems, and I currently see the date correctly. But let me know if you still see any issues. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:13, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi Sannse. Thanks for your reply. I just had another look via another user space on my computer (on my user space everything's been fine), and although the Comm portal, and other pages are now looking OK, there still seems to be the same problem with the main page (and sept 30 date):

Humm.. that looks like the css isn't loading... I'll ask UberFuzzy to have a look at this, see if he can see what's going on -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:25, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, just remembered to try a hard refresh and all looks fine now, thanks Philralph @sca21 17:35, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A better deal for more serious topic wikia?

Hi Sannse

I've recently set up a forum and polls on the subject of 'A better deal for more serious topic wikia?' on WikiSocial. It'd be great to get any comments you may have.

At a time when major concerns such as Google are becoming more and more interested in (and taking significant action on) topics such as the environment, climate change etc, is there a danger of Wikia looking like its getting left behind? I know you might point to investing in Green wikia, but it's specifically the issue of what wikia looks like to newcomers and juxtaposition of indiscriminate and potentially offensive advertising that really concerns me, Thanks Philralph @sca21 08:28, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RuneScape Wiki ads

Hey Sannse,

I know a while back we had some ads on the RSW advertising illegal content such as "Zezima's password" and other banners clearly violating RuneScape's rules. As I log in today, the front page is littered with "RuneScape Hacks" ads and banners. I thought a while back I found somewhere to report bad ads, but it seems to have left my mind. Is there anything we can do about these banners, as they are encouraging users to break the RuneScape rules and put their accounts in jeopardy. If there is nothing you could do, could you leave me a message here and point me in the right direction? Thanks! (I moved this from your help.wikia.com talk page, by the way.) Hello Sannse. Today I just found the Star Ocean Wiki, and much to my dissappointment its in complete disrepair. One problem is that it has no admins and bcrats, the only one having left ages ago. I investigated this as if it might be to do with my computer or internet connection, but with no luck. I'm still able to get other websites and also other wikia (central, social, green, etc). I'm also able to access sca via another user account on my computer and just tried signing in and a test edit via that which went ok. [edit] Admin Blues

Hi Sannse,

I'm a big fan of wikipedia and the wikia community in general.

One of my favorite sites is genealogy.wikia, but recently, I've run into differences in preferences with one of its administrators. He seems to be micro-managing, which can only be possible on a site that large if there are only a few people making edits. After making a few edits, he will jump in and say, "don't do it this way, haven't you been reading the forums and help pages?"

Recently, he went into my user page (not just user:talk) and made several changes to a disambig project that I had been working on.

Eventually, I'm afraid more and more users will loose interest and stop visiting the site. TreeGenea3 02:33, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Each wiki has its own way of doing things, and we try not to interfere in that - after all there are many ways of doing things and each wiki has different needs. It's up to the admins and the community to decide how to run their wiki. And with such a heavily structured wiki as genealogy, it's not surprising that the older users would like new users to follow the schemes and conventions they have developed.
You know, even the convention of not editing people's user page isn't absolute - in fact it was a controversial idea on Wikipedia at first, I still have a "you can edit this page" notice on my User page at Wikipedia... a remnant of the argument.
But, of course, Wikipedia and Wikia are different things... we aren't related except in our roots. So conventions that grow there don't necessarily follow on to other wikis.
My advice is to talk to Robin and the community, and find ways of working with them on the project. It looks as though you are doing good things there already :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:23, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Sannse. I appreciate your advice.TreeGenea3 14:51, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Checkuser

Hey Sannse, could you run a Checkuser on two Star Wars Fanon users to tell me whether or not they're the same person? The users are Jedi Vilxi and CloneSaber. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea (talk) 15:28, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the slow reply. I'm afraid there's not clear match in this case. The ISP is the same, but it's a very variable IP and there is no direct match. So it's possible, but not clear either way. Sorry -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:30, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Rights

Hi Sannse,

I'm Justin Matas from the Christianity Knowledge Base (christianity.wikia.com). I'm currently the only active administrator there, and would like to request that another user be given additional rights as well (User:Kathleen.wright5‎). Kathleen and I are essentially the only contributors to the Christian Wiki right now, but Kathleen is definitely more dedicated to the project than I am - she makes at least 95% of all edits right now. She's trying to bring a "revival" to the site as best she can :) So I would like to request that she be made a sysop and a bureaucrat, so she can basically take over the leadership and maintenence of the site, until such time that a large community develops there. She has experience with the admin tools on other wikis (not associated with Wikipedia or Wikia).

Thanks, -- P.B. Pilhet / Talk 17:11, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I think if Kathleen.wright5 wants to adopt the wiki, she should make a request on Wiki adoption requests since the 3 bureaucrats there are inactive and possibly reference your message here. --CharitwoTalk 21:23, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm happy to make her admin, as it's requested by an existing admin. I'll also give you bureaucrat rights, so that you can make any future likely candidates admin yourself :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:45, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] template help + deleting pages

Hi Sannse,

I'm currently trying to create some templates for the Dutch RuneScape Wikia. An example of a template is this. The code is about exactly the same as that of the main english RuneScape Wikia (here), except that it's in Dutch; still somehow I don't get those lines around the template. Another question: is it possible to delete pages completely? I'm asking this because someone made this page, which i already removed the text from but which we really don't need for the Wiki. Last question: is it possible to change the image of your Wiki (the image in the top left corner)? Is there a special page to do this?

Thx in advance Therealmagicrune 15:22, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

In the first line of the template is class="wikitable infobox plainlinks". That pulls information from the css pages of the wiki. "plainlinks" is standard, but you will need to add "wikitable" and "infobox" to see the formatting. Both are on http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.css and you can just transfer them to http://nl.runescape.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.css - let me know if you can't see the bit to copy (search for each class name) and I'll help.
Uberfuzzy deleted the page for you. You need to be an admin (or staff/helper) to do that. It looks like the only admin on the wiki is inactive, so you might want to consider whether you meet the critera to adopt the wiki. That will give you the ability to adopt.
The logo can be changed by uploading an image named wiki.png - of the right size of course. You need to be an admin to do this too, but if you upload it under a different name I can move it for you.
Hope that all helps! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:59, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
First, thx for getting that page deleted.
I've taken a look at the common.css page but I can't edit it, I only get the option to view the code. Could you possibly transfer the information from the english RuneScape Wikia?
As for the admin request, I'll hold that off for a while, as I don't got much time to be online because of school. For the image of the Wiki I'll try to come with a consensus with Darth Stefan, as he brings in about 80% of all information of that Wiki.
Thx, Therealmagicrune 18:11, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
OK, the code is transfered - I forgot that would need admin rights too. Please let me know if you need anything else -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 10:23, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Thx for transfering the code, infoboxes look way nicer now. Could you possibly upload this image as wiki.png? I know I'm not much of an artist, but at least it's better than no logo at all. Therealmagicrune 18:01, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for Adminship, but still have a problem

Thanks for making me an Admin at Christianity Wikia english, but I still have a problem, I imported Template:UF-hcard-person from Wikipedia to try and make Template:Infobox Pope work properly on article pages, the sidebar image has disappeared on the pages that had Template:Infobox Pope with the above template with it. I have just deleted those pages and the problem is still there. The pages in question are - Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul I, Pope John XXIII, Pope Pius XII, Pope Pius XI, Pope Pius IX, Pope Boniface VIII, Pope Clement I and Pope Anacletus. Could you please do something (This is also on User talk:KyleH at Central Wikia with no reply since November 1) User:Kathleen.wright5 12:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you had a missing </div> in Template:Popes - I've fixed this. Sorry you didn't get a quick reply, we are not "officially" around at the weekends (although you will often find us here anyway) and Mondays can be mad catching up days :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:45, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re-naming wiki(s) (header name and URL, if possible) and Other Matters

Hello. First, I'm glad to be a part of Wikia. It has the best kind of editing because it's the most like Wikipedia, making transitions easier, if needed. Anyway...
I was in conversation with one of the old admins of the wiki I started a while back ([w:rpstories], sorry if the link doesn't work), and after a disagreement, the two wikis have split. Because this wiki was once controlled by the other admin while I wasn't active, he changed the title of the wiki. I would like this to be changed to "Role-Play by Wiki".
I would also like to make a request to change the URL, if possible, to rpbw, instead of rpstories.wikia.com.
Also, because I don't know how to do much with wikis (still some), the wiki is now in a "recession," for lack of better words. I would like it if you (or someone) could find a partner admin that both understands wikis and is open to new ideas, and possibly is creative.
I know this may be much to ask of you, but all I really need is the first paragraph's request completed (to change the title of the wiki to Role-Play by Wiki). The second paragraph's request would be good simply for continuity, but is not necessary. The third paragraph is just personal preference. Thank you for reading this long comment, but more importantly, thank you so much for helping to keep Wikia alive and kickin'! Regards, DJ 1337 Man 15:50, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've changed the URL and the sitename :)
I can't find you an admin, sadly I don't have a cache of them hidden under my desk ;) But why don't you ask in the forums, or maybe better still in the sort of places your target audience is likely to hang out... maybe in role-play specific chat rooms, or on other wikis that might have role-players involved? Those are the people most likely to be interested and to stick around and help. Good luck! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:08, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much, Sannse! And, I noticed that the old URL redirects to the new one. That's even better! Thank you again, DJ 1337 Man 16:41, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship removal

I asked for a number of administrators/bureaucrats to have their powers removed on SWGames due to innacitivity a while ago, per a vote we took. You didn't remove the user BrentPowell's 'powers' due to him being active again. I then left a message saying that he was only updating links to one his roleplaying sites, and he has not made any useful contributions to SWGames this year. Supergeeky1 today told me that he was not removed, I was under the impression that he was so would you mind removing him for me please, many thanks, --Hunterj | My talk 21:41, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] DPL extension

Hi Sannse! Sorry to bother you again about this, since last time I requested for the extension, I backed out after. :X I realized it'd be really useful to have this extension after all. I'd like to have DPL enabled on the Domo Wiki where I am admin. Thanks! --D-day 22:38, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, that's on. Don't forget the advice on the help page about this extension -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:06, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] some questions/admin request

Hope I don't overwhelm you, here we go...  ;)

  1. I did some searching, though I don't think it exists — is there a variable or maybe a script function that outputs the last page a user edited? Since the new terminator season has started we've gotten a lot of new users, and when doing a welcome I'd like to reference a variable that links to the page they contributed to. Otherwise, I'll just continue to do it manually.
  2. I would like to edit some pages in the MediaWiki namespace, especially the Special:Upload. After manually tagging several hundred images, I realize I should create a drop menu or check box list of image tags, so users can easily see what tags they can use and so I don't continually play catch up. :) I also want to add some javascript functions to make our infoboxes better (.i.e. show/hide source).
  3. Who do I ask to enable the new Parser Functions from the MediaWiki 1.13 upgrade?

Jeiara 20:25, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey, there. I think I have the answers you're looking for :)
  1. Currently not as far as I'm aware, I know of a feature that pulls different variables, but it's not what you're looking for, you may have to do it manually. But your idea is a great one for welcoming users.
  2. It seems one of the admins has recently edited in the last week. Have you attempted to contact them to make those changes. It seems odd that there is no bureaucrat there. My advice is to get with Kanamekun and the other editors I see on recent changes and see about adding some new admins, whether it be one or more of you.
  3. This would be one only sannse can help you with. I think there is request queue, but I am not too positive. She or another staff member will have to run a parser diff test on the wiki to check for compatibility issues. I'm sure she'll look into adding Terminator to the list.
--CharitwoTalk 20:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Jeiara. On the parser upgrade, I'm just waiting for some new information on conflicts which will help us know what effects each wiki is likely to see. That's being run at the moment, so I'll check up on it tomorrow and see if I can find out more about this for terminator. Hopefully we will be able to switch you over soon. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 16:52, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A question

Hi Sannse, I have a small question. On our site, theDynasty Warriors Wiki, when using the monobook skin we don't get the little image next to our username - the little man in green. I was just wondering why as personally I liie having that image there. Thanks.--Aeonlord92 17:08, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Aeonlord. This is because you have a customized version of the monobook skin. It seems you've made a lot of changes to your MediaWiki:Monobook.css so you'd have to incorporate the little green man with your custom settings. All you need is the filepath for that icon and the proper css function. --CharitwoTalk 17:41, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I edited the page a lot as I was trying out possible things we could use on the site in the future; guess I went edit mad ^_^
Anyway, it seems the symbol has appeared now due to a change I made so everything's a-ok now. Thanks anyway.--Aeonlord92 21:35, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Demoting

Hello, I would like to demote User:Cesque from his title of admin and remove his title to just a plain user as an accident occured and he was not meant to be kept at that status. Our wiki is here. I hope you can help. SuperCoins 21:17, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm the 'Proper' admin there and I agree. --EDD 21:38, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid in this case, I'm going to tell you to sort it out yourself. It looks as though you are all playing with the wiki somewhat, rather than trying to build a great resource around the subject. I can understand that you are learning about the controls, but hopefully you will all settle down to building the wiki soon. So I hope you will work together, and come to agreements on how to run the wiki. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship on Religion

Hi,

I would like to have user:Rev Bem set up as an admin on the Religion wikia. Since Garzo left, I've been the only admin there. But after several of activity, I'm pretty satisfied that Rev Bem would be an asset as an Admin on the wikia. However, since Garzo was our only Bureaucrat, I'm unable to promote Rev Bem myself. Could you promote him for me? --Kirk 03:24, 21 November 2008 (UTC) Hi, that's done. I also set you as bureaucrat so you can do this yourself as needed in the future :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:54, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Checkuser and rights removal

Could you run a checkuser search on the Star Wars Fanon users Darth Renetus and Darth Vukure to determine if they're the same user? Thank you. Also, I left the following message for Angela, but she has yet to respond so I'll leave it for you as well:

At Star Wars Fanon, the members have overwhelmingly voted to remove administrative rights from Jack Phoenix. I'm going to assume that Wikia would want to make sure we were absolutely positive about this, and the answer is that we are. The current administrators are agreed upon this, as are over a dozen members (the total support for the removal of rights is 18 votes, with 1 neutral and 0 opposition). Therefore, if you could please remove administrative rights from Jack at Star Wars Fanon, that would be appreciated. Thank you. -

Thanks in advance for your help in both regards. Brandon Rhea (talk) 18:44, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Sorry if I sound impatient and/or rude, but I left this message for you two days ago, and I left the same message for Angela about Jack Phoenix four or five days ago. Might I inquire as to why it is taking so long to get a response from Wikia? Thank you. - Brandon Rhea (talk) 21:28, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi Brandon. Sorry for the delay, I'm not usually around at the weekend (I should also say that Angela is somewhat distracted by getting married today ;)
There isn't any direct match between the two accounts, although they are on the same range of IPs. Darth Renetus seems to be a match with George Skywalker though... and I can't say that the two you mention and others on that IP range are definitely not the same person either. I'm afraid this is often the case with movable IPs
I've removed Jack Phoenix's admin flag on SWFanon.

[edit] Extreme Warfare Fantasy Wiki

Hi Sannse! Sorry to bug you yet again, but I recently had an interesting conversation with the founding administrator of Extreme Warfare Fantasy Wiki on the IRC channel #R&C. The conversation brought up several concerns I have for the wiki and I thought you might like to read what exactly went on in the channel.

First let me start off by saying that after he had joined the channel, I requested administrator-ship on the Extreme Warfare Fantasy Wiki, something I'm not quite sure why I did. I like to help newer wikis get setup, and I saw this wiki as having potential. I actually regret requesting that from Mobutu4 now due to the response I got from him.

Second, let me also say that on this wiki, I happened to have edited one of "his" articles, which he placed a lengthy ban on me for. That's when this discussion errupted.

As you can see, Mobutu4 is anything but rational in this matter. But it didn't end there, unfortunately.

[19:14] * Mobutu4 (n=1815a703@gateway/web/cgi-irc/irc.wikia.com/x-0b8ab3be32a98c8d) has joined #R&C
[19:16] <Mobutu4> Going To MOHAAS
[19:16] <Mobutu4> -ban complete-eeeeeek
[19:16] * Mobutu4 (n=1815a703@gateway/web/cgi-irc/irc.wikia.com/x-0b8ab3be32a98c8d) Quit (Client Quit)

Again, I'm sorry to bother you with this, I just thought you should be aware of Mobutu's actions and make the appropriate judgment in this matter. Cheers! (P.S. — Sorry for the long post. I couldn't think of any way to shorten it.) — supergeeky1 \m/ (Talk to the Geek) 00:38, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, this is something for those involved on the wiki to work out. Yes, it seems he over-reacted to an edit and is not understanding the ideals of non-ownership of text... but that's got to be a local issue, and one he will have to work out if he wants the wiki he's starting to be more than a personal sandbox. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:30, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Ah, okay, thanks for the help. I just thought I'd give you a heads up before he did anything too destructive. Cheers! — supergeeky1 \m/ (Talk to the Geek) 03:51, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dutch Memory Alpha

Hi Sannse -- User:Patricia left a message on my talk page about missing pages on the Dutch Memory Alpha. This looks like it might be a shared help thing, which I don't know much about... Can you check it out? I'm also leaving a message for George. Thanks! -- Danny@Wikia (talk) 18:39, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Danny, I don't think it's to do with shared help, that's not on non-English wikis... I think it's a namespace problem, but will have to investigate further with Nef on Monday. I'll let you (and Patricia of course) know what I find -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:34, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi Sannse, we've run into another little problem on the Dutch MA. I was hoping that you could help us with that as well. The special page wanted pages doesn't seem to completely refresh anymore. The articles with the Memory Alpha namespace are still in the list, yet the recent articles that we've created have vanished. Could you take a look at this? Thanks in advance. Greetings, --Patricia 17:34, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
hi, This seems to be the result of the earlier namespace problem, we've tried a couple of things, and now need to see if it updates over the next couple of days. Please let me know if not. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:13, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal Permablock

Hello Sannse,

This is The Oracle23 again. There has been mass vandalism on Custom Bionicles Wiki, and I have blocked the user responsible for a period of 1 month (his contributions are here). I am here to ask that, if you could, give him a permanent ban for my wiki (I'm not sure how to, maybe you use the Other option for Period of Time, but what do you put in the box?).

Thanks,

--The Oracle 16:54, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

P.S:I just found this out, but it seems that he has spammed our wiki before, too (under a different username):

  • 00:28, 25 November 2008 Eulalia459678 (Talk | contribs | block) blocked Atukamlitiber (Talk | contribs) with an expiry time of 1 month (account creation disabled) ‎ (vandalism) (unblock)

This was found on the block log.The only difference between the usernames is the "er" at the end. Thus, this is a case of sock puppetry, and I suggest that you do an IP check on both accounts, and if they have the same IP, you should lock both accounts.

Hi, it's possible to put "infinite" as a block period, or of course you could just put "2 years" or something similar, which would have much the same effect :)
It does looks as though the two accounts are the same person, so you may want to block the IP 68.183.92.236 to help prevent other accounts. I would advise not blocking for too long though, as IPs are generally changable, and that IP may be assigned to someone else at some time.
I'd also suggest that putting a vandal's name on the main page is not the best way to discourage them ;) Vandals tend to thrive on attention and recognition - so it's always best not to give it to them! We always recommend "block, revert, ignore" as the best thing to do with people like this. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 15:04, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Soul Eater Wiki

Hello again sannse. I've been working on Narutopedia and the Dragon Ball Wiki, but both those just require hands-off administration work. I've already got a good community on the Narutopedia and all I do is watch the RC there and help catch disputes and a tiny bit of false info. And as for the Dragon Ball Wiki, I'm just back there as a 2nd admin. I've helped solve a few disputes that would have otherwise gone out of control, but there is already a good community there and they are handling all the content improvement and patrolling of the wiki.

So I did a little searching around for a wiki I have the ability to work on. I'm thinking of adopting the Soul Eater wiki, even for a little bit. It's a fairly popular series, and it's currently running. So it shouldn't be as hard to attract a community for as it would be for other wiki. It's currently only around 30 episodes, so if it's started early it shouldn't be as much work to catch up to the series. The wiki already has some content as well, along with some good Wikipedia content. And it's one of the few series that I actually have full access to. So I can actually go through the episodes and even take screenshots myself.

I'd like to start by bringing in some Wikipedia content and merging it in with the content already on the wiki. Ideally using Wikipedia to fill in the gaps in the articles it should be possible to get the wiki close enough to critical mass to start attracting contributors.

Most of Wikia ACG's templates are geared around making it possible to cleanup Wikipedia animanga content and make it suitable for use on Wikia. So it would be nice to just get Sysop myself on Soul Eater, and Bot on AnimeBot. That way I can get the templates I need to cleanup imported stuff. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 29, 2008 @ 00:33 (UTC)

Hi Dantman. Requests for adoption (or temporary adoption in this case) are done via the adoption requests page now. If you post there, someone from the Entertainment team will have a look :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 15:25, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Please make me a administratorElmopedia89 05:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, not sure how to answer this...as you don't say where... But generally, each wiki chooses its own admins, with the founder or other bureaucrats able to add new people. Or, if there is no community on the wiki, you may be able to adopt it. Generally, becoming an admin means becoming involved in the community and putting time and effort into the project. That's always the best first step in the process. -- sannse@Wikia (talk

[edit] Rise of Nations Wiki Admin

Hi, Sannse. I'm the founder of the Rise of Nations Wiki, and, though I've had spells of inactivity there, I'm working on it once more. Several months ago, I appointed the user Jonru as a bureaucrat ans sysop, though a little too quickly; he's been inactive since April. I'm asking if you could please remove his bureaucrat and sysop status, so I can distribute this right to more deserving users. Thanks. -- Joe Butler (Obi Maul12) (Chow) 04:00, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Necyklopedie (Czech) is asking for assistance

We need a technical help.

1. We need the button "Save Page" (in Czech "Ulozit zmeny") to be active only after the unregistered user has filled the Summary field.

2. We need the setting in "My preferences/Editing/Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" (in Czech: "Nastavení/editovat/Upozornit") to be ticked (filled in with the check mark) by default for all registered Users. Which means that every new registered user will be prompted to fill in the Summary field. Any unregistered anonymous editor should be automatically prompted to fill in the Summary field as well.

[edit] Compile asking for help on Dewback Wing Wiki

Hello, I am having trouble with two things so far.

  1. I am setting up a infobox that can be filled in, like the one that I have up at Richard Tan. However, I am not getting it to look right.
  1. I am also having trouble understanding how to edit the MENU for the content I need. Can you show me an example on that perhaps?

Thank you.

--Compile 13:10, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, This is on the dewbackwing wiki?
If you are using the new editor then you can click on the template in Richard Tan, and you will see several fields to fill in. That should give you a good looking info box. What you are using at the moment is the code:
 {{infobox
 |image=[[Image:Lucky.jpg]]
 |name=Richard Tan
 |planet=Pelagon
 |age=31
 |rank=Captain
 (etc....)
 }}
Which isn't set up on dewbackwing. What you need (if you use source mode to edit) is:
 {{infobox
 |Box title = Richard Tan
 |image = Image:Lucky.jpg
 |imagewidth = 250
 |caption = Richard Tan
 |Row 1 title = planet
 |Row 1 info =Pelagon
 |Row 2 title =age
 |Row 2 info =31
 |Row 3 title =rank
 |Row 3 info =Captain
 (etc....)
 }}
But using the new editor is easier.
Which menu do you want to edit? I'm not sure what you mean there.
-- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

On the infobox, I used the new editor and not all of the info is showing. How do I set up an info box page, cause I do nto understand the pages I have read. I have what I think is one up, but I am not sure if it is even right, and that can be located at the following link Character Infobox. If is the menu to the far left where you can search for pages, but I figured out how to do it.

Thank you again for your help.

--Compile 16:46, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Infoboxes are not easy to create. It looks like you got the one you copied over to work in the end (from the deleted page) but I know they are tricky things. We are trying to improve the system to make them a lot easier. In the mean time, you might want to stick to using Template:Infobox, rather than the more complicated ones. It means you have to type in each title line (as in the example above) but it does mean it's easier to get everything in. I'm glad you found the menu part! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Education Wikia

Hi,

I would like to put in a request for User:Fasten on the Education Wikia. Unfortunately, I really haven't been as attentive to that wikia as I needed to be, as Education is not one of my strong points. I came on board because there was a fair amount vandalism at the time. Since the last Bureaucrat left, and the remaining other active project left, Fasten has been doing the bulk of the activity. And he does know more about the subject than I do. Now that he is interested in being an Admin as well, I would like to be able to facilitate his promotion in status. --Kirk 00:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Chip2009

Hi, I am an Administrator of Grand Theft Wiki. I'm just letting you know that your Wikia-wide block of User:Chip2007 and User:Chip2008 has recently been circumvented again using User:Chip2009. See his GTW user page, as it says his real name is Martin Owen (the same as 2007 and 2008). I have blocked him on GTW, but it's up to you to enforce the Wikia-wide block. Thanks! [edit] Password recover

Hello, My friend, user:אבונטו מן in the Hebrew uncyclopedia had forgotten his password. He tried the Email password recover, but it did not help. I’ll be glad if you will be able to help us. Thanks, Doly.

Hi, if he can email community@wikia.com with all the details, we can have a look. Possibly he made a mistake in filling in his email address. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:15, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A problem

A user recently joined Custom Bionicles, but then created a new account stating he "didn't like his old account".What do you think I should do? It is a case of sock puppetry, after all. The user's two accounts are:

--The Oracle 02:54, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't consider this a problem at all :) it's really only "sockpuppeting" when people pretend that the second account isn't theirs. And as we can't currently change account names on Wikia, this is the only way to change your nick if you don't like it or make a mistake. As it's clearly marked that the other account is him, there is no deception involved and I'd say this is fine -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:17, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] CheckUser

Hello Sannse, on RuneScape Wiki we've been having a bit of an issue with this troll (creating spam pages, impersonating users, offensive material, etc.), I'd appreciate a check user to discover his IP range. Here is a list of a few of his accounts:

  • WillSmith
  • ToiletLucky
  • Sdfsdfsdf
  • Iuckytoilet
  • Jason Ginn
  • Jason Gin

Many thanks!--Azaz12919:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've blocked the two IPs he's used (one was blocked, but only for anons). If he pops up again, then please let me know, and I'll look to see if he's switched IP. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:24, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Desysoping

It is with a heavy heart that I post this, one of RSWiki's admins Stinkowing, has requested to have his sysop privileges revoked. Also, I'd very much appreciate you commenting on this discussion here, many thanks.--Azaz129

Hi, I'll looking at the discussion on Stinkowing. On the other, unless there are copyright or other similar issues involved, then it looks like a matter between the game makers and the community -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:38, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Adminship: Star Wars Miniatures Wikia

This is a just request for adminship over on the Star Wars Miniatures Wikia. I only ask for this because I'm planning on fixing up the wikia and then introducing to the SWMinis community. And also because the only administrator there hasn't been seen for over a year (judging by his contributions to the site).

Thanks, and hopefully you get back to me soon.

P.S. Please leave any replies on my talk page at the SWM Wikia. Thanks.

Thanks, Sannse. I looked at the link you gave me, and I'm endeavouring to meet the criteria. Seeing how I have to wait a bit to be able to request for adminship, is it possible you can unprotect the main page of SWMWiki? I'd like to be able to spice it up, and make it more interesting. Thanks again! Darth mavoc 23:39, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Sure, that's no problem... done -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 08:48, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] You blocked me?

Hi Sannse. A few days ago I requested to Azaz129 that a user impersonating me should be blocked. Thanks for imposing an IP block on my school. Unfortunately, you also seem to have blocked me as well. Maybe this is because the impersonator had an account called luckytoilet (Lowercase L) and you mistook him for me. I can't contact Azaz129 himself because I'm blocked on the Runescape Wiki, but I'd appreciate it if you could help me. Thanks. Luckytoilet 03:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've adjusted the block and left a message for Azaz129 to explain. The problem was the shared IP between you and the vandal... I guess you have some interesting classmates ;) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:10, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki Request: Hoping you can answer

Hi there Sannse,

On December 6 this request was denied: http://requests.wikia.com/index.php?title=Kota&action=purge

Although I can understand the reason, there's something that puzzles me. At least one wiki was created for an individual RuneScape Clan in the past: http://darkriders.wikia.com/wiki/

I'd just like to know why that wiki was created for an individual RuneScape Clan but my request for a wiki for my RuneScape clan was denied. I have been trying to contact the staff member that denied my request since the day it was denied, both via her talk page and email as well as the talk page for the request, but I have still received no response. I am posting this on your talk page in the hopes that I can get an answer.

Thanks, Soldier 1033 00:18, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Requests is something more of an art than a science... so sometimes we get things wrong, and sometimes the guidelines we work by change over time. In this case, we started the Darkriders Wikia in January 2008. By June, someone had requested a wiki for all Runescape clans, and we had seen that clan wikis tended not to grow well. So we started trying to see if it would work better to combine clans in one wiki, accepted the Runescape Clans wiki, and started asking new clan requests to go there.
It might turn out that this isn't the best solution. We are constantly talking about how to best choose the wikis we accept, and hope to have a new, improved, system next year (details once we work them out!). But one thing to remember, we can always split off content if it starts on a more general wiki and grows well. So a section on Runescape Clans could be a stand-alone wiki if it takes off :)
I hope that's helped, and sorry you didn't get a reply before, we are all a bit here-and-away over the holiday period -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 15:18, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bot for CBW Wiki

I was thinking about creating a bot for Custom Bionicles Wiki. The purpose of this bot would be to add a template to every page listed on Special:Wantedpages. The reason I need a bot to do this instead of a user is because there exactly 1000 pages listed there. Now, I'll probably have to create the bot framework after Christmas for personal reasons, but maybe I should start by creating the bot account?

P.S:Link to the wanted pages is here. Be warned though, it is quite long.

[edit] A Change to LocalSettings.php

Hello, I was wondering if you could add a few lines to the end of the localSettings.php for runescape.wikia.com to give bureaucrats the ability to manage forumadmin. The discussion for adding the lines can be found here.

$wgGroupPermissions['bureaucrat']['forumadmin'] = true; # Gives bureaucrats forum adminship.
$wgGroupPermissions['forumadmin']['forumadmin'] = true; # Gives forumadmins forum adminship.
$wgAddGroups['bureaucrat'][] = 'forumadmin'; # Bureaucrats can add forumadmin (keeps current groups too).
$wgRemoveGroups['bureaucrat'][] = 'forumadmin'; # Bureaucrats can remove forumadmin (keeps current groups too).

If forumadmin does not show up on Special:UserRights, then adding ↓ should make it visible.

$ForumAdminKey = array_search('forumadmin',$wgImplicitGroups); #finds the key for forumadmin in implicit groups
unset($wgImplicitGroups[$ForumAdminKey]); #Removes forumadmin from implicit groups.

Thank you. Dr5ag2on1 21:46, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] autochange categories and general messages

Hello, on the Dutch RuneScape Wiki here we have created a template in the past and added auto-categorisation (this template). This template was then added to some pages. Later the autocategorisation was changed (category Armour instead of Equipment), but the pages which contain the template doesn't seem to change automatically, I have to open the edit window for these pages and then click save in order for the categories to change. So basically (sorry for the messy explanation) I was wondering if it's possible to automatically change the category of all pages containing a template, if the autocategorisation of this template is changed.

I was also wondering how you can make messages appear on the top of each page (for example: Help out this wikia as much as possible. There are plenty of things to do. Futurepedia needs images, especially for imageless articles. Vote for new Featured pictures here. on the Back to the Future Wiki). Thx, Therealmagicrune 13:41, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, there was a problem with this type of update over the holiday... usually the system puts such tasks in a queue to be worked on when traffic is low (it runs about midnight UTC). But it missed a few days, so there was a back-log. It looks to have cleared now, so all is well. Generally, you should expect unedited pages to update once a day... sometimes a bit longer if you have made a template change that affects a lot of pages. If it's longer, please let us know and we'll give the servers a bit of a kick ;)
You can put a message at the top of the page using MediaWiki:Sitenotice. Some wikis rather overuse this in my opinion, it's not good to push the content down any more than is necessary... but it's a handy way to talk to all users at once. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 15:31, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Tyvm for that. There also seems to be an issue with our mainpage, where the sidebar (with search, categories, upload image, special pages) overlaps (hope that's a correct word in English) our Wiki image. Is this caused by the layout of our mainpage? No other page seems to have this problem. Therealmagicrune 16:19, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Got to remember to close those divs! :) I've made the edit to fix the page -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:29, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] MySims Wiki Help

Hey I am one of the new guys over at the MySims Wiki. I was wondering if you had any idea how to make pages like they have on the Viva Pinyata wiki where the page is in tabs at the top? This would be very useful for our wiki as the game MySims has 2 games with the same Sims in completely different stories. Here is a example [9]. Thanks a lot for your time.--Rbfskywalker 12:09, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, that wiki use custom code to make tabs, but we have something similar with "Tab View". This is installed on MySims already, so you just need to add the code. There is help on this at http://help.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Tab_view -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 16:32, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Wow thanks that works. The bit I don't get is how to style the tabs. I read the bit at the bottom about this but I don't get where you put that code. Thanks again.--Rbfskywalker 19:14, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Your site css is on a couple of different pages. For something like this, which doesn't depend on what skin people are viewing the site in, you should use MediaWiki:Common.css.
In case you need it later... if you are changing the general look of the default skin, then you will need MediaWiki:Monaco.css (see Help:Customizing Monaco for more on that) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:32, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey Sorry but I don't really get what you are saying. I know what skins are but what do they have to do with this?--Rbfskywalker 20:11, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
MediaWiki:Monaco.css will ONLY get used if the skin is set to Monaco->Custom
if you need to change something for ALL monaco themes, you will need to put it in MediaWiki:Common.css and prepend all your css rules with .wikiaSkinMonaco
but in this case, for changing the styling for the tabview, put it in MediaWiki:Common.css --Uberfuzzy 20:15, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok I don't think I can do this then as I am just a normal user atm as there was me and this other guy wanting to start the wiki at the same time but he asked first so he has all the power ect. Will be be able to do this if I ask him?--Rbfskywalker 20:25, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, he'll be able to edit the css pages. He will also be able to give you admin rights so that you can make the changes... perhaps you could talk to him about that possibility? Good luck -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:15, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
