[edit] Atukamakirk 2.9
Atukamlitib has returned as Atukamakirk 2.9. He has already done around 50 counts of vandalism, and has received a permaban. However, this is getting to be a big problem. He will keep returning, I am certain of it. I think we should add him to the Spam Blacklist or something similar. And, can you please reply about the bot I'm thinking about?
- Hi, I see Uberfuzzy has blocked the guy's IP.
- On the bot... sorry for missing that. I'm confused as to why you would want to put a template on wanted pages. There will be more than 1000 (that's just the limit for listing, once the top ones are gone others will show) and the idea of the page is that it shows you what articles might be useful to add. If you create them with a template, then you won't have redlinks any more... and that means people will constantly be going to useless pages looking for content! The redlinks are useful, and the wanted pages list is just a tool to help you decide which to add content to first -- sannse

[edit] Grawp
Some users who are fed up with Grawp are planning Police action that could stop him once and for all. See here on Palaeos.
Grawp is causing problems for many users and administrators on many wikis. It’s not good for him that he can get away with such actions as threatening to rape and murder people. It’s not good for those who read distressing material that Grawp has written. Most of those on the receiving end of such threats will know that he’s thousands of miles away and won’t harm them. A few might get frightened. In any case reading that type of material is unpleasant. Can Wikia help deal with Grawp? Proxima Centauri 17:33, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
More about Grawp. Proxima Centauri 18:10, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- We can block him any time he causes problems on Wikia, but that's all I'm afraid. I always recommend the technique of "revert, block, ignore" for any vandal... or a discussion with your local police if you feel threatened in any way. -- sannse

[edit] User Wilberj
Hi Sannse can help me to get this user Wiberj off my back about thing because i am the head Adimmeter on Monster MASH and i have block him due tell on to run that site and i will be best if you like tell to leave alone --Wiezorek James 02:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, it looks like you need to talk to him rather than block him. Are pages being copied from Wikipedia without credit? If so, you need to either remove them or give proper attribution. I've added a template to MASH Wiki for you to use for this. Just type {{Wikipedia|Name}} (replacing "name" with the source article name) on each copied article. -- sannse

[edit] Checkuser
Hi, Sannse. I request a Checkuser to check if [1] [2] and [3] share the same IP address, due to a complain of all three being blocked by this block. I suspect that all three are the same person, and I think it would be worth to warn him to not have several accounts in use. Thanks! --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 20:40, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, now I found that Uberfuzzy is a checkuser. I've passed this request to him. --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) -WikiDex 12:30, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Banned
Why am I banned? How did I abuse my E-mail?-- ₪ ΔĢєŋŦGεиιυς Yes, I am banned 22:05, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
And while we're on the subject, why is Happyface414 banned? ---- Sheepman!Sheepytalk 11:45, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
You've gone too far. I edit on the CPW. It's bad enough that every one there occasionally goes nuts and then bans everyone in sight for no reason. But now staff members have started mindlessly banned users as well. And before you contradict me, I can name two: HappyFace414 and AgentGenius. I mean seriously! I advise you unban them, because otherwise you will never get a moments peace from the CP Fanon wiki.
Yours in extreme anger, -- Sheepman!Sheepytalk 11:56, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- HappyFace414 was blocked as he is too young to be allowed to edit Wikia. See Angela's talk page on ClubPenguin for more. AgentGenius was blocked for spamming Wikia with a large number of duplicate emails. This is not acceptable behaviour. -- sannse
(talk) 11:06, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm very sorry, I hadn't realised that Happyface had done that. I am sorry I sent quite that many E-Mails, I was very angry and you weren't replying to my questions here. Even so, I sent several times more E-Mails than I ment (I just cheked.) Please forgive me.
- Yours very apologeticly,
- ₪ ΔĢєŋŦGεиιυς Yes, I am banned
- Let's be clear here, this wasn't a mistake or an accident, you used some sort of a script to automatically send many emails a minute to our mailing system. I am not willing to discuss this further here, especially as you are evading your ban. Perhaps we can review this in a few month's time... but for now you are not welcome on Wikia. -- sannse
(talk) 17:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Ok. Sorry for the outburst. I can see why Agentgenius was banned. But I looked at Angela's talk page, and there is nothing there to do with Happyface's age. ---- Sheepman!Sheepytalk 14:54, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, I got the wikis confused. Angela explained the bans here. Our terms of use say that you need to be 13 or older to use Wikia, and Happyface isn't. I'm afraid there is nothing other than time that will change that -- sannse

[edit] Legal threats information
Greetings, I'm Pfenner, a Nonciclopedia admin.
Occasionally we happen to receive legal threats involving our articles. The latest seems a serious one (although we are still not sure whether it is real). The point is, we (admins and community) have little knowledge on the subject of legal issues. All we want is to be able to deal with the next legal threat properly, so - if you don't mind - I have some questions for you:
- In the terms of use there is this sentence: All legal action will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in the state of California, USA. Does this apply only to direct legal threats to Wikia, or is really any legal action against the content of any site hosted by Wikia also included?
- Are users individually responsible and liable for what they write? And are they supposed to "be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in the state of California, USA." even if they are located outside the U.S. and the supposed offence in question has occurred outside the U.S.?
- Could Wikia give us some form of legal assistance?
- Who is, legally speaking, the target of a legal threat concerning an article? Is it the author? Is it the admins? Or is it the entire site?
I'm sorry for my poor English, and thank you in advance for the answers.. --Pfenner 20:26, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Pfenner, complicated questions :) Please remember in reading my answers that I am not a lawyer and cannot give legal advice.
- Taking the last question first... any of those can be the target of a legal threat. Each of us is responsible for our own writings, and that should always be a consideration in what you put on the site. Admins are a bad target in most cases, they don't generally have any responsibility for the actions of others on the site. However, they do still have responsibility for their own actions (so, for example, if you were to replace a copyright violation and protect the page, that might be seen differently to you just not noticing a problem). And of course, Wikia has certain responsibilities - for example to remove content promptly if we get a proper take-down notice.
- Going up the list... yes, Wikia is able to look at any threat and may be able to give assistance. For example, in a recent case on the English Uncyclopedia we got a lawyer's letter but felt that a page could clearly be defended as parody. So we got our lawyers to write to the complaining person's lawyers to say so. Of course it depends on the situation each time, and most complaints can be dealt with a lot more easily than that. But the option is there if we need it.
- And for the first (last) question... this applies to any action taken against Wikia, relating to any site hosted by Wikia. But, of course, we would have no control over someone suing an English user in an English court over their actions on Wikia or any other site. That goes back to personal responsibility for your actions.
- In general, I would say your first step is to look at any complaint with common sense and see if you can resolve the dispute. For example, if it's a page written by students calling their teacher names... do you really need it on the site? So a quick deletion and ban of any students replacing it should fix the problem. Copyright issues are easy too, another quick deletion should end any complaints. But if there are any complaints that worry you or you can't resolve, then I would recommend that you tell the person to contact community@wikia.com and the Community Team will help.
- Let me know if you have more questions :) -- sannse
(talk) 11:30, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the answers, they were useful. :) In this case the threat is against this article (a parody article of an animal rights association) and basically, it involves a supposed defamation, even if there is no real defamatory content in the article. We think (and the author agrees) not to delete any part of this until a further notification, and we'll let you know about that. Thanks again! --Pfenner 14:35, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Just wanted to remind you of this discussion on asterisks messing up formatting on pages. We're still having this problem, the latest page is here. Please see previous discussion for other links to pages this has happened to. Do the techs know if this is being caused by the new WYSIWYG editor or something else? [edit] Assistance requested
We've had a bit of a problem on the RuneScape Clans Wiki. A user by the name of Btzkillerv basically went into a blind rage yesterday and blatantly attacked more than one user after his clan page was vandalized. I had issued him a 1 day block to allow him to calm down and now this is turning into a mess. I'm being threatened by him and I don't want to issue another block that will only serve to anger him more. Would you mind taking a look and possibly commenting to help calm things down?
Here are the revisions that caused me to issue the block:
Followed by a bunch of personal attacks and blatant abuse on Btzkillerv's talk page.
Thank you, Soldier 1033 22:06, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- sigh* Never-mind. I've had to issue an infinite block for his latest behavior and after discussing it with Azaz. Thanks anyways. Soldier 1033 00:05, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Some Questions
Hi Sannse, I posted some questions on your talk page over at the MySims wiki and your user page said I should also post here so I doing just that! Here's what I wrote: Hi! I have a few questions..
- Is this site's admin User:Darkrudie?
- How could I rename a page?
- How could I delete a page?
Thanks and have a nice day. ^end of message. A response on my talk page (on MySims wiki) would be much appreciated and thank you!--Mistertrouble189 03:24, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Tabs again
Hey do you know if there is a way to link to the same article and have a different tab open each time? There is a page ,[7], and I want to link it in the MySims and MySims Kingdom sections but to a differnt tab each time. Thanks. --Rbfskywalker 12:32, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Rbfskywalker
- Page, tab, and window behavior are normally browser dependent, there's no real easy way to tell the software in terms of links. Dependent on browser you can right-click and choose to open in a new tab or window or shift-click, you'd have to check the tab settings in your browser's preferences. --CharitwoTalk 18:47, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Wrong tabs :). Look further up the page and you will see the kind I mean!--Rbfskywalker 12:21, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, Tab view, not just Tabs, big difference! :) In regards to your actual question, I'm not exactly sure I understand what you mean by having it use a different tab each time. --CharitwoTalk 13:58, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ok I will try explain again. On our main page we have links to the main pages about each game and one of them is Essences. What I would like is when it is clicked on under 'MySims' it goes to the MySims tab and whe it is clicked on under 'MySims Kingdom' it does to the MySims Kingdom tab.--Rbfskywalker 17:47, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Forums and Forumadmin
Hi Sannse,
Would it be possible to create forums for the RuneScape Clans Wiki like the forums on the RuneScape Wiki? If so, these are the forums we'd like along with a short description in parenthesis (don't add the text in parenthesis to the forum title):
RuneScape Clans Wiki (for discussing the wiki) Clans Discussion (for discussing everything clans) Help Desk (questions and answers) Off-Topic (for anything that doesn't fit in the other forums)
Also, would it be possible to create the Forum Admin group and allow b'crats to give and take away this right from users like on the RS Wiki?
Thanks for your time, Soldier 1033 01:38, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, the phpBB forums aren't something we are offering at the moment. Have you looked at wiki style forums? -- sannse

[edit] IP look up
Hello Sannse. When you have a few moments, could you please run a CheckUser search on the IP anon user 94.69.2.218 and see if the IPs are the same as the ones belonging to George Skywalker and Darth Vukure, all three of which are from the Star Wars Fanon Wiki? Thank you! - Brandon Rhea (talk) 02:27, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Brandon, it looks like there's a match. Darth Renetus, Darth Kaarlus, Michael the Meseger, Mandalore the Barbarian are others that look like the same guy. There may be others, but the IP range is very large so it's difficult to say for sure. You could block 94.69.0.0/16 but that is quite likely to affect other users. Sorry not to be more help -- sannse
(talk) 22:00, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
That actually does help. Those are all sockpuppets of the same blocked user. Thank you for your help! - Brandon Rhea (talk) 17:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Checkuser on Stephenie Meyer Wiki
Sannse, I need you to do a checkuser on User:FoShizzle, User:1337pwnxor, User:Fishyman, User:Theizzykitty, User:FireMirage, User:Beckwithalexis, User:Halomaniac117, User:OscarMeyerWeiner, User:FKU, User:FreeFallForAll and User:31337roxxor in the Stephenie Meyer Wiki. They're all vandal-only accounts, and I need to know whether they are editing or being mass-created from open proxies or from a range of IPs. And are admins able to rangeblock in Wikia wikis? - æaм fæтsoи 02:30, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay, I've been unwell... I've checked these accounts, and there doesn't seem to be any pattern or range. Either they are unconnected, or they are using open proxies. It is possible to block a range, but there isn't one in this case, so it's just going to be a case of banning each as they appear. -- sannse

Hi, I'm Psychoparten from the Désencyclopédie. I banned someone who spammed the wiki (well... I guess it's spam). But I saw that he/she did the same on the latin uncyclopedia. [edit] Username change request
I would like to request that my username be changed. I understand the consequences of this and some problems which may come out of this. However I would feel much more comfortable editing on Wikia with a made up name instead of my real name. Please change my username to Knowzilla Thank you. --Kushan_I.A.K.J (Talk) 09:28, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

- I'm sorry, we can't change usernames at the moment it's harder here on Wikia because of the shared user database. We hope to have a tool to do this sometime in the future. For now, I suggest you just start using your new account. If you want to, you can link the accounts with a message on your user pages, but that's up to you of course. I can change any user rights you want to switch over -- sannse

- I'm not a techy type, so I don't know all the details... but basically it's about various logs and records on 10,000 wikis needing to be checked and changed to ensure the name change doesn't leave any problems. So a new account is the way to go - although, as I said, I hope that one day we will have a better way. Sorry -- sannse

[edit] CR Wiki
Hi Sannse! I was wondering if you could change the project name-space on the CR Wiki from Commonwealth Realms Wiki to simply CRW (and Commonwealth Realms Wiki Talk to CRW Talk), as the current one is too long to be practical. I also was wondering if you could have http://crw.wikia.com redirect to http://commonwealth.wikia.com which would be useful and helpful to get to pages on the wiki fast when typing in the address bar. Thank you! --Knowzilla 11:56, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
An additional request: Sorry to ask more of you, but could you also please disable the New edit window feature on the CR Wiki? It's causing me a lot of problems and my browser literally shut down about 20 times now! Could you please replace it with the traditional old edit window? Since I have to get the wiki up and running as the founder. Its really slowing down my work. Thanks. --Knowzilla 16:36, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi sannse, whats the hex color code that its been use at staff signatures? --Cizagna (Talk) 23:32, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Erm sannse, could you remove my sysop flag on genealogy. It's really starting to get annoying that every global message sent to me comes through genalogy because I have a sysop flag there, when I don't even participate in the wiki. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Jan 26, 2009 @ 23:51 (UTC)

Morning Sannse. For a while, we've had a vandal re-making accounts as CS1, CS2, etc. Well, today he's made 4 so far, and is causing us much grief. Could we get a checkuser on : CS6, CS7, CS8, CS9 please. Thank you.

- Hi Karlis, thanks for letting me know of this. I've talked it over with Kirkburn too. I think all we can do at the moment is keep vigilant, and keep fixing problems and blocking as needed. Don't forget that you can often find staff help on IRC in an emergency, I'll be online at times over the weekend and in the Wikia IRC channel. I'll also make sure I check in to look for talk page messages and help as I can. Eventually these kiddies get tired of the silly games, so this will pass in time :) -- sannse

[edit] RE:Atukam
The "Atukam" user has created about 10 accounts already on BIONICLEPedia. If you could please hand over his IP so he can be blocked on BP (I'll hand the IP to ToaAuserv, a friend of mine and administrator there). The Atukam user is getting out of hand, and is wasting your resources by creating these accounts. I suggest that you either hand the IP to the BP admins to block, or add the IP as a domain ban, seeing as he's a threat to all the wikis. I know, the ban can't be infinite, but it has to be long enough that the Atukam will eventually get bored and quit.
Sincerely,
- Hi, there are three IPs involved, and not in the same range. They don't appear to be open proxies, so they may be either the same guy on two or more computers (with three ISPs) or two or more guys working together. I would recommend you ban 68.183.92.158 / 76.7.180.50 / 76.95.229.131 and contact us if you need any new accounts looking at -- sannse

Have you ever visited the pro wrestling wiki? I say its violating the wikia rules. Its just a porn wiki. They have mostly focused on women in bikini or very less clothes. Do something about it! 09:04, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Could I have either rollback or admin?
Hello there.
I have been quite active in the Spanish Wikia and Spanish is my first language. I have also edited some parts of the English one because I also speak English. Lately, I have noticed many players vandalizing the Spanish wikia by editing the whole page and replacing it with URL of random websites; probably malicious one.
So, I wanted to ask if I either have rollback or admin power. I speak Spanish perfectly and I will continue to do until time tells.
Thanks for your time, Sannse. :)
P.S. The part that was vandalized was 'Cooking,' in the Spanish section. I edited it back.
Sorry, I didn't know there was a bureaucrat on the Spanish RS Wiki. I've asked him/her myself. Thanks!

[edit] Deleting "all pages created by" a specific account
I am not sure who did it, but someone created an account called User:This page has lots of consecutive edits which are hiding other pages from Special:RecentChanges. These edits should be patrolled. Oh no! Look at me go!!! I'll do it!!!! and created a lot of vandalism. It happened on w:c:dragonrp and the user is probably the same as User:Nodsd (perhaps, and only perhaps, something like 82.56.131.54 guessing (but only guessing) that all vandalism on the wiki is from one person). It seems that the administrator misunderstood something and now, I am not sure if User:Mighty Erick is going to read what happened, but I hope so. Both User:Nodsd and the user with the long username are probably automatic vandals, if that is the case, requiring not autoconfirmed users to prove to be people when making more than a specific amount of edits in a specific time would stop it. Lars (Poet) (speak page) 15:22, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Unfortunately this was Mighty Erick, who seems to be doing some very strange things at the moment. His admin rights on that wiki have been removed now, and the account you mention has been blocked. Uberfuzzy also deleted the pages, but that's filled Recent Changes in itself. We will keep monitoring the situation to see how we can help -- sannse

[edit] CBW/BP Move
I'm not really sure why you don't understand this, but the move doesn't concern itself only with the ads. Its far more than that.
If you could please just allow us to move, because the community did vote to move. You're only holding us back.
Now, I've known you for a bit now, and you're helpful. But its not you. Its just that BP and CBW are moving on now.
If you could also read my email, it would be great. After setting up the site, I'll ask that you update the database dumps and image archives.
Sincerely,
Hi, I replied to your email, was there a problem there? or did you send a second? Please see the forum topic for more comments to you and the community. As always, you have the right to move, but that doesn't mean you can close the wiki behind you... there are other users and readers to think of as well. -- sannse
(talk) 18:44, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I sent a second. As for the moving, I think you have to respect the vote. According to your Closed Wiki policy, a wiki that is moving can be closed on Wikia if the decision is unanimous. This was the case at CBW, and I think you should respect that. As for BP, only the topic would change to sets only, which, personally, I don't think is much of a deal.
22:13, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think you need to look at the closed wiki page again. As it says there, we will keep a wiki open if there is a community who may want to edit (and with just two people voting to go, seems likely to me there will be) or if we think it can be adopted (and I think if the current admins choose to go, someone else will be willing to take on the wiki). There is no need to close this wiki, there is still a future for a Custom Bionicle wiki on Wikia. Please also see the discussion on the Bionicle wiki. -- sannse

[edit] Some questions
Hello, I'm a Nonciclopedia admin. I have some questions:
- Can you please remove the users Devil Kaiser and Mr.Bean from the sysop group? They have been absent for too much time.
- Can you flag the user MFHbot as bot?
- We were curious to know if it is possible, and what is needed, to be a little more "independent", I mean, if we can remove users from sysop and bureaucrat groups, create and delete namespaces, install extensions and such things.
Thanks for the interest. MFHTalk 18:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I've made the rights changes (I'm assuming you have community agreement for them!)
- On extra abilities for admins... it's something that we have been discussing. Extensions wouldn't be possible, because some extensions can have serious effects on the site as a whole, but it might be possible to increase admin or bureacrat's abilities to make other changes. The main limitation is technical time to build a feature that is safe and easy to use. I'll let you know if and when we come up with something -- sannse

I'm having trouble with Template:Infobox/doc not looking the same as at Wikia Templates. I've imported all the other templates that are needed to go with it. Could you do something about it before February 17 when Wikia:Christianity will be switched to the new parser. User:Kathleen.wright5 at Wikia:Christianity 09:21, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, that was a tricky one! There was a line break in one of the sub-templates. Kirkburn found it though. In the process I switched the wiki to the new parser, so please look out for any problems. I'll do some checks now to see if there are any I can find -- sannse

Is grievous banned on the Bakugan wiki? and now the Indiana jones wiki.
- I see this is someone you know off line. And it seems you have both been playing games. This needs to stop now. If it continues, it's likely I will ban both of you. It also looks like you need to ignore him more. If you refuse to react, rather than posting on multiple admins and staff pages to complain, it makes it a lot less fun for him... and then he is more likely to stop. But my main advice is to sort this out off-line, where it started. -- sannse

[edit] Need to revoke admin status
I have a user named ThatFellow on my wiki. Up until recently, I hadn't had any problems with him as far as editing or causing trouble. However, now he's been abusing his powers by taking credit for other admins' pages and adding little to no relevant content to the wiki. We've all agreed that he must be dealt with. Would you mind removing his admin status? Thank you.
~Spike's Girl from the ThatGuyWithTheGlasses wiki
- It doesn't look to me as though you have actually talked to the guy. Although you may have done off-wiki of course. I would say that should be your first step here... it's always better to resolve such problems though discussion. Good luck! -- sannse
(talk) 10:20, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, we HAVE talked to him. Numerous times, in fact. He just refuses to listen to a word we say. It's obvious to everyone he doesn't care about what he's doing. We'd really appreciate it if you could just remove his status...
~Spike's Girl (TGWTG wiki)
- Hi, please could you link me to the relevant talk pages? Thanks -- sannse
(talk) 14:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Are you referring to the user we're having problems with? If so, then his talk page is here.
~Spike's Girl (TGWTG wiki)
Hello, I'm Cferra. I'm a co-admin hired by Spike's Girl when the TGWTG wiki was created. I was the one who banned ThatFellow because he rolled back a page he created to himself after it was deleted by another administrator, after telling him the content was not related to the site's purpose. Which is to be a database for information regarding thatguywiththeglasses.com While we staff members have profile pages, this man had created a page dedicated to advertising himself and his website/videos. He spent more time working on that page than anything else.
We talked to ThatFellow numerous times about his page and asked him to be more of a team player. He never talked to us and kept to himself. This talking was all done off of the wikia and he denied any wrongdoing when he took credit for my work. He and other users have also had edit wars with him. The problems continued to persist until measures had to be taken and he was fired. He was also banned for a year due to his conduct. We don't feel he was a team player. We gave him numerous chances and as a result, he has met us with defiance off of the wiki.
We ask that he is to be de-adminned because he doesn't seem to work well with the team. He just wants to focus on his own agenda and not that of the site as a whole as he wants to advertise his own site and not work on anything related to thatguywiththeglasses.com.
-Cferra (TGWTG Wiki)
In addition, his actions on the main thatguywiththeglasses.com site were inexcusable. The man was so desperate to get his work featured that he pestered several site members and even asked his entire YouTube fanbase to spam the admin with e-mails to force himself onto the site. As a result, the admin personally called him out in a news message about his disgraceful conduct. He also holds a grudge against several other admins because he feels that they are conspiring against him. (this is not the case, I know these admins and they are nice people) These are not the actions of a responsible person who should be editing a Wiki.
- Film Brain (TGWTG Wiki)
Thank you. For some reason he still seems to be located under the sysops list. Does this take time to tak effect or something?
-Cferra (TGWTG Wiki)
- Yes, that list is updated about once a day. It's cleared for me now, but look out for browser cache too. If you still see him listed, you may need to clear your cache to see the current list -- sannse

[edit] Revoked Admin?
o.o why did you just revoke my Bureaucrats/Sysops? Kitten of Doom is a new admin with only a couple edits to http://cityofheroes.wikia.com where as I've been an admin for several yrs now and have hundred of contributions.--Sleepy Kitty 12:17, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I understood that you and the others I removed rights for had moved to another wiki... is that wrong? If so, I'll restore your rights -- sannse
(talk) 13:04, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- The ones who moved on have all listed on their user pages that they have done so. I'm still semi active here (its a pretty low volume wiki now) and check to see if anything needs doing about every other day. I'm also a Bureaucrats/Sysops over at the Tabula Rasa wiki as well so I was a bit surprised to suddenly get demoted at one and not the other without any warning on any of my user talk pages. --Sleepy Kitty 21:20, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry to bother you again, KoD seems very hostile towards myself so I'm going to save everyone the trouble (too late, I know) and just call it quits for now. I'll finish cleaning up my hoax and user page images later (fingers cramping from the repeated motions) tonight. If the wiki ends up needing admins again later on, my email should be on record with the wiki and I'll still be checking my other user pages on occasion. Best Wishes -SK --Sleepy Kitty 20:47, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Image problems lately
Hey Sannse,
Did something happen to images? Suddenly I'm able to see only some of the images on a page, and can't see the big ones at all. Refreshing, clearing page cache, and using a different browser all don't help. (I'm on Conworld wikia.) Tel Loiryn 14:59, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- We have had some recent cache issues due to the new London servers, but that's usually to do with updating images. Please could you link me to specific images you are having a problem with? Do you see anything in place of the images? Any error messages? Also, could you let me know what country you are editing from (this affects which server you use). Thanks -- sannse

Is there some way to remove redlinked templates from templates? Examples Template:Left Behind and Template:Roman provinces 120 AD. --Kathleen.wright5 08:05, 19 February 2009 (UTC) ,from Wikia:Christianity
- Yes, it's a matter of finding where they are used in the template (or more often in a sub-template used in the template) and removing the link. Sometimes they are several templates down. Frankly, this is why it's not a good idea to use complext templates from Wikipedia. If you can't understand them (and I certainly can't!) then it's difficult to fix and adapt them :) -- sannse

Thanks again for your help, (your fellow Brit) --EightyOne (talk) 01:52, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
[edit] FOTC Wikia
I just checked the Flight of the Conchords wikia, which you recently approved for adoption, and It's still not showing rights have been changed. Is this an error on the site and it hasn't taken effect yet? Just wondering since I tried to make edits to the Monaco skin and it didn't allow me to do so. Thanks, I'll also work up a nice design for my userpage as well. ;) --ChristianShephard 20:02, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, looks like you have having a problem with the new editor. New wikis use this rather than the traditional type, it allows you to use the toolbar in the same way as a traditional word processor (like Word) rather than wikimarkup. If you prefer to turn this off, you can do that via your preferences (select the edit tab and "Disable Rich Text Editing"). Or try highlighting something, and clicking a button above the edit bar... it's a rather nice way to edit :) -- sannse

[edit] About a bot
Hello! I'm having a hard time with bots..! Basically I need to create one because I'm getting stuck on my wikia (too many template and changes). I saw that you have a bot, and I though maybe you can help me through the process. I know you are part of the community support team, and this is the reason why I think you are the best person! If you are busy or cannot help me, maybe you can let me talk with someone else.
I know it's a bit weird as a request, but I asked on IRC and they told me that was better if I talked to someone who actually owned a bot. I need to get started, from downloading the program and setting it up (I think you can just tell me some links and I can do it by myself) to making it work (I would probably need some tips from u and your OK for flagging it).
Thank you for your attention! --EXE.eseguibile 05:45, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I've actually only installed AutoWikiBrowser today - although I tried a similar program some time ago. AWB is a "semi-bot", which makes a change then shows you it for approval. The program is mostly designed for Wikipedia, and it's pretty complex from what I've seen so far, but it looks useful. I've no knowledge about creating a full bot though I'm afraid. If you want to look at AWB, the page on it is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser - sannse
(talk) 22:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Actually this is the best choice. At least I will be able to approve the edits, so I shouldn't make many mistakes! Thank you for your help again! I'm currently working on it.DeadorAlive and, unfortunately, I'm the only user. By extension, in terms of request for flagging, I should be the community (since I'm the only user). Anyway you are welcome to check the wikia and let me know what you think. The bot to flag should be Exebot. Thanks! --EXE.eseguibile 02:56, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] IRC cloak
Hi, Sannse. I was advised that you're now in charge of IRC related things? Can I please request a Wikia IRC cloak? Per the cloak help page instructions, I've done what's required on freenode and I've also signed my name here to confirm my request. As I stated on that page, my IRC name is the same as my Wikia user name — CarlGustav. Thanks for your time, CarlGustav (Boom!) 03:20, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Checkuser
Hello Sannse, I'm here to request a checkuser on this account, believed to be the same owner of this account. (firstly please note the similarity in userpages). The user was originally blocked for attempting to manipulate his edit count for an RfA, he then repeatedly stated on his talk page that he would be creating a new account. After the new account was created he went to another user Cruser knew and posted this:
== no sub ==
Can I talk to you somewhere else? There is something urgent to tell you. Contact me at megastrikedragon@live.com. {{Signatures/Believe In Darkness}} 00:05, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
The user then contacted a fellow admin who directed the user to myself and told him to foward Cruser's e-mail.

Admittedly, I'm rather tired so if any part of this message is choppy I apologise, (also after this issue is dealt with, I'd appreciate the information in this section being hidden to preserve the reproting user's identity.--Azaz129 04:09, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Azaz. I talked to Karlis about this on IRC this morning... it's clear that they are the same person (or at least, on the same computer within a very short time of each other). It's clear enough to say that they are socks. sorry for the slow reply here -- sannse

Hey again, Sannse. One of my sysops is having an issue. She can't seem to log in to edit anything. I'm not sure if the problem is with her account or not... Anyway, her screen name is PrincessPunky. I'd appreciate if you could help us solve this weird problem. Thanks!
~Spike's Girl (from the TGWTG wiki)
- Hi. The best thing is for her to use Special:Contact to email us with as many details as possible (browser and operating system, what error messages she sees, what user name she uses, the exact page she is trying to log in on...)
- But first, she could try logging in here and/or clearing her cookies and cache.
- To do this on IE:
- Select 'tools' > 'Internet options' > 'General' tab > under 'Browsing history' click 'Delete...' > 'Delete cookies' and 'Delete files' > 'Close' > 'OK'.
- For Firefox:
- Select 'tools' > 'clear private data' > check 'cookies' and 'cache', uncheck others from the list > Click 'clear private data now'.
- Then for either:
- Hold 'Ctrl' and press 'F5'
- Log back in to view the page if necessary.

Can you remove or de-activate the new 'add image' button on the editing toolbar for Terminator Wiki ? It doesn't give users options for image tags and copyright, which is what our Special:Upload does. — JeiaraTalk 20:15, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, the add image tool bar does give a dropdown for image tags now. I'm not sure when it was added, it's quite recent, but you should have the same functionality as for Special:Upload (and more) -- sannse

This is only at Wikia:Christianity. Could you please do something about it. --Kathleen.wright5 22:37, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Kathleen. The idea is to make it easy to add more categories... often more works better than one per article. I can turn it off for the wiki if that's what you and the community want, but why try it out a bit more and see if it works for you :) -- sannse

[edit] RuneScape Wiki - Personal privacy
Hello Sannse. I hate to bother you with yet another RS wikia community problem, but this is serious. I would appreciate if you would weigh in here. A few months ago, User:Earthere was supposedly emailed a direct link to an image from my personal, private myspace. He had no way to access it himself, and I have a feeling that Total Rune (I'm sure you remember him) sent him the image link. He then proceeded to post it to his userpage along with an insult. He was subsequently banned. Now, he feels he has served his time. I am absolutely appalled. There has been a community discussion opened to possibly remove his ban, but I fail to see in any way how this is a community decision, when this is complete trolling, and because it did not personally hurt any of the other wikia editors. He harassed me on one of the most personal and invasive levels. I know that Wikia is not Wikipedia, but one of their policies states unless unintentional and non-malicious... attempted outing is grounds for an immediate block. It is undeniable that his posting of the image was intentional and clearly malicious. At the time of the ban, all users supported the ban for the reasons I have stated. I cannot wrap my head around the idea of him being unbanned after such behaviour, and I implore that you comment on this discussion. Thank you. Christine 23:26, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Christine. This is very much a community decision. And I see that the consensus seems to be going towards leaving him banned. -- sannse

I have decided to withdraw from the project with no regrets whatsoever, effective immediately. I also would like to take this opportunity to inform you that I am now an active contributor to the Megami Tensei Wiki (http://megamitensei.wikia.com). Please, and thank you ^^ BLUER一番 13:35, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

(talk) 19:21, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, Sannse, I'm very sure of this decision. I do not wish to participate in the FFWiki any longer: reasons being no more interest in the subject matter, the wiki is already saturated with users who are more than able to handle the wiki without my presence, and I have no interest to mingle with the current "community" there. Thank you for your consideration. BLUER一番 04:45, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

In halopedia, an administrator keeps deleting my work and then locks the page. he says that my work is not actual work but vandalism and does not belong on that page. however, i did my research and everything i wrote is 100% backed up. shouldn't i be allowed to post my bit and if other don't like them they can remove them. I wouldn't have continued to repost them if the 1 admin would have contacted me and told me how i was wrong. is their anything i can do to get around his block on the page? Psycho60 13:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- This is something you need to discuss with the local admins... or better still, keep discussing on the talk page and come to an agreement between you. Trying to get around a page protection is just going to increase the conflict, it's better to try and reduce it with discussion and negotiation. Perhaps one of the other admins can help you with this - sannse

Would it be possible to run a bot on the Wii Wiki that automatically signs comments on talk pages as many users on this wiki don't bother to type 4 tildes? GT5162 16:11, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- I guess you could.. although I'm not sure how the bot would always recognise what needs to be signed and what doesn't...
- I'd suggest you experiment first. There is a wiki at http://communitytest.wikia.com that's a general test space for anyone to use, if that helps... -- sannse

- I was thinking of something that adds the {{Unsigned|(Username)}} template to all unsigned comments on talk pages, like on Wikia:Adoption_requests. GT5162 15:59, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- I understand the idea, but I'm not sure if a bot would easily be able to recognise where to put the signature (for example if several people had left comments with a variable number of lines). But you could always give it a go on the test space and see what you can do :) -- sannse

- Secondly, could we please get User:Wikia flagged as a bot on the RuneScape Wiki? Thanks!

How do I obtain a Wikia IRC Channel for my wiki? <<UDK>>-<<Talk>>-<<Contribs>>-<<YCM>>
- You will need an IRC client to create the channel, and use Special:Contact to request it be added to the IRC gateway access list so gateway users can join it. To keep within the Wikia namespace (and so Wikia owns the channel and can help in any situation that arises), it should be named something like #wikia-ycm

[edit] Stalked your to-do list
I got bored and wandered onto wikia from enwiki. I stumbled upon your to-do list and saw the thing about {{Deletedpage}}. After seeing the instructions for the template's use, it looks like it's antiquated to what mediawiki (at least svn, probably a major release by now) has supported for a while: create-protected pages. Moreover, templates won't get rendered in the edit summary, but will get rendered in as they're displayed to the user (like block reasons), hence the reason I created pp-create on enwikipedia a while back.
.... annnyway, I assume that that entry might have been something along the lines of a migration of the various wikia "salted" pages over to the new system, which would include changes to the methodology of the deletedpage template and/or instructions to admins on the template's documentation page and/or changes to the protect-a-page dropdown reasons. The other possibility is you might have had had something in mind for using it in relation to the Titleblacklist extension, but it doesn't look like it's enabled on this wiki. *shrug*. Anyway, hope that might help; at least maybe something productive will be borne out of boredom. :P
Cheers =) --Slakr 12:32, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I'd forgotten all about that to-do list :P I guess by now it's either done or waaay out of date. I don't recall what I wanted to do with deleted page now... ah well, it will come up again if it's important ;) -- sannse

- Hi, the best way to find out is usually to hit "edit" and look at the code :) In this case, all you need to do is start with <poll>, put your question on the next line, and then each possible answer on the following lines. End with </poll>. If you are on a wiki with the new editor, you will need to switch to wikitext mode. - sannse

[edit] Debouted request
Hello.
I'm the person which opened Forum:Request for de adminship on desencyclopedie, and you've seen we're unable to finsih to a consensus. But I've started the topic because of our unaibality to get to a consensus, so the objectives were to show the differents point of view to wikia staff in expactation they take a decision. I think there are sufficient elements to take it, and I don't wan't to pursue this debate for years. So I will just ask you to express a clear refutal of the request or to accept it. thanks and apologies for the invasion. El kloklo 00:16, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but this has to be a community decision. In most communities, it's up to the admins/bureaucrats to decide based on community discussion. There are very few situations where Wikia staff will step in and remove an admin or bureaucrat (for example, we would if we saw an admin blocking everyone on the wiki and deleting all pages). There are two active bureaucrats who can act for the community... and if they decide not to act, then that is your answer I'm afraid. -- sannse
(talk) 08:37, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, so if I understand well, if the community's majority could express a decision(this kind or another), they are unable to applicate it, without the support of any bureaucrat? El kloklo 11:25, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- If there were a very clear consensus, and the bureaucrats were ignoring it without explanation, then we would be likely to look at the situation. But that sort of consensus is not what I saw on the talk page. It seems there are views on both sides. -- sannse
(talk) 13:52, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- I know that we clearly didn't reach a consensus on the talkpages, but I'm interested in knowing how does it work in wikia, and this is not in the objective to achieve my ends, because this debate come to an end for me. But well there are many wikis in need of contributors :) El kloklo 15:55, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- We try to look at each situation carefully, and take into account factors like the activity of a wiki and the specific problem. We are more likely to get involved in a wiki that doesn't really have a community, but our general principle is to always try to leave community decisions to the community in question. The community team's role is to try and support the community, not to rule it :) -- sannse

[edit] Creating Bots
Dear Sannse, I'm beginning to learn how to work Python and pyWikipedia bots to get some ideas for my wiki (The Third Turn) running more smoothly. However, as a rather amateur Python prgrammer, I've hit a huge block - the login script. Everytime I run the login.py script, I get syntax error after syntax error. I don't really see anyone else talking about issues with it, so I must assume I'm either an idiot or I somehow missed the fact that I do need to work some parameters.
Thus, perhaps, you'd be willing to show me what your functioning script of login.py is. If you can download the nightly version and get it to work, perhaps it is my user-config.py and family file? I think I followed those to the book though.
I hope you'll be willing to help me just a little bit. I'm an excellent programmer in Java and CSS, but this Python script is throwing me for a bit of the loop at the moment.
Thanks --DaNASCAT 02:22, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Python or setting up bots. I would say your best sources of information will be the IRC channel at irc://irc.freenode.net/pywikipediabot or the mailing list at http://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/Pywikipedia-l . You could also try talking to other users in the Wikia IRC channel, some there use bots I believe. Sorry not to be more help! -- sannse

Hi Sannse, I want to request patrol edits for wakfu.wikia.com, guildopedia.wikia.com and es.wikia.com/dofus For the spanish dofu i already requested at Zuirdj talk page but i have not receive an answer in more 7 days, if its needed i can do the requests on the contact wikia, just need to know if 1 per wiki at each wiki contact page or with a single one with the 3 wikis will suffice?
Also do you know if there is a wiki where i can test the semantic freely? since i see that communitytest.wikia.com does not have it enable -- 22:00, 01 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hey, usually I would point you towards Special:Contact, but as I had a moment and you have had to wait already... done for all three :)
- How long do you want a wiki with semantic mediawiki to be available? I can switch it on for communitytest for a while if you like? If you need it long-term, then I'll find somewhere else... -- sannse
(talk) 14:17, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the patrols =D
- Well if its possible long term would be nice since i'm trying to successfully multi task between wikis so im devoting certain amounts of time to each wiki so its hard to focus on a new stuff so i can wait some time.
- Another option if you give me green light i could ask User:Ciencia Al Poder if i could use his/this wiki http://sysoptest.wikia.com/ for that as its looks like another test ground
- -- 14:28, 02 April 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, I can enable it there if it works for both of you... if not, I'll make another wiki for testing it -- sannse

[edit] 2 PlayStation Home Wikis
Hi! I've been searching around and noticed that there are 2 wikis about PlayStation Home.
One is under this link: PlayStation Home, and one under this: Playstation Home. Should the newer wiki be deleted and be redirected to the old one? Also, could you keep me on time with this Playstation Home wiki thing on my talk page because I'm thinking of adopting the inactive wiki... Thank you for your help. :) HiQu | My talk 18:20, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, we recently changed our policy on duplicate wikis, to allow people to create them if they want to... although we still recommend that editors join an existing community if there is one. We are planning to develop some new tools to merge wikis, which will help when someone creates a duplicate, but then abandons it... but that's for the future, and certainly won't stop people adopting inactive wikis instead. So go for it! -- sannse

[edit] Forums for logocreation wiki
Hey there sannse, I am wondering if you could make the Logo creation wiki forums like the Halo Wiki's forums. If you could do this i would also like the forum admin rights put in user-rights so i can make some users forum admins too.
Thanks
- Hi, I'm sorry, we aren't adding more phpBB forums. Those aren't supported any more - they were an experiment that didn't quite work out. -- sannse

[edit] wikia bot @ chdk wiki
hello, thanks for taking matters into your hands regarding the wikia bot @ out chdk wiki. however, in the changelog, i still see all the changes (new welcome pages in particular) created by wikia, even though the bots are turned off to show up. does this setting only affect new pages created after you flagged wikia a bot?
regards, PhyrePhoX 10:23, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it will only be changes that happen during the time the account is flagged that will be hidden. They will drop off the end of recent changes in time though -- sannse

[edit] Possible Affiliations
Hi, Sannse. I've been wondering if wikia has rules about wikis affiliating themselves with official sites! As the founder of The X-Files Wiki, I was recently contacted by a web designer who is creating a new site for Frank Spotnitz, a frequent producer on The X-Files, and was wondering about a possible partnership between the wiki and the new site, re-skinning the wiki but leaving it as a site for fans to write information about the series and films. Would this be allowable, as far as wikia is concerned? Frankly, I don't see why not, since it would most likely boost traffic to the wiki, which surely can only be a good thing! Am I right? --Mulder 13:25, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, there is no problem with affiliations :) although there is a restriction on users adding their own (or other people's) advertising to the site. I'll ask one of the Entertainment team to call by and see if they can help in any way. It sounds like an exciting opportunity! -- sannse

[edit] Wikia Community Support
Hi Sannase. Thanks for your your quick response to my question regarding my account being hacked. I still have some concerns however. My account (User:Aburnett001) was granted Bureaucrat rights on the Castle Crashers Wiki, and I'm concerned by the fact that someone else has access it to it right now, as it could be used to seriously disrupt our wiki. I have tried contacting our wiki's only currently remaining Bureaucrat, but he hasn't been on in a few weeks, and he hasn't responded to my emails. Should any action be taken against this account? Also, is there any way for me to get my bureaucrat rights back to I can continue to help the wiki, or am I again going to have to prove myself worthy of rights? (Our 'crat finally returned and restored my powers) Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks- Aburnett
Edit: If noting else, could you unprotect my old userpage and subpages so I can move them? Thanks! -Aburnett

[edit] Kudos to Wikia Community Team in communicating wikia status
I wanted to drop a note thanking you and the community team for your recent efforts in keeping the wikis informed. Tonight's (today's?) broadcast message warning of the temp DB lock is great (and exactly the type of thing I'm hoping to see more of during the various upgrade/stability projects). Setting the community's expectations this way is a cheap way of getting us to root for the disruptions (b/c we want to see the improvements) instead of griping/whining (because we don't know for how long or what for).
Keep up the good work. And thank you. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:05, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

- I see the wiki already has w:c:liberapedia:Special:Protectsite... hummm... One thing we could do is restrict editing to logged in users. It's not something we often do, and it might just mean the vandals take time to log in, but it's an option. Other than that, it's mostly a case of "block and revert". I'll try to check in every now and then to see how it's going. -- sannse

Someone else has asked for check user on the vandal. Proxima Centauri 07:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Preventing users who are not logged in from editing has not helped as the vandal came back with two separate accounts today, the accounts are M1911. and M1911 strikes again. I deleted a single bad edit from that user. A range block could help as could requiring email confirmation before editing. Proxima Centauri 12:18, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
There has been no further trouble for over 24 hours, I'll tell you if there is more. If nothing happens for a week I suggest letting editors that are not logged in edit again as there have been many useful contributions from unregistered users. Proxima Centauri 09:56, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- OK, sorry I wasn't around much this weekend. On "Have you thought of paying Wikia employees to be janitors if you haven't got volunteers"... I'm afraid that won't happen. Wikia is here to support and help wikis, but we will never be able to directly run more than 12,000 wikis. So it's up to communities to do that. I know it's hard work for some topics, which seem to attract more than their fair share of vandalism... but luckily these are often topics that also attract passionate defenders. Hopefully you will find more of those to help you protect and grow the wiki over time :) -- sannse

You will need to learn css to make this sort of change (or find another user who can do it for you) but the basics are all on the help page I linked above. Hello Sannse. I'd like to request adminship on the Disgaea wiki. I recently took interest in that wiki, and have been rehauling many of the articles and adding structure to the wiki, along with a few friends. [edit] Problems with the Quartz skin
Hello Sannse, ever since the recent the updates that have given us the on the RuneScape Wiki the user creation log (which I've been wishing for for quite sometime) I have been experiencing significant problems with the Quartz skin. The recent changes on any wiki no longer have color (expect, of course links), when I attempt to view the differences in edits to a page the text is no longer hilighted forcing me to read through every bit and determine what was changed (sort of a vandalism addition of where's Waldo). On top of this, The formating of polls no longer works and lines on tables are invisible. I've been forced to switch skins to a different skin to avoid these problems for the time being.--Azaz129 (talk) 18:35, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm afraid Quartz is an obsolete skin that's not supported any more. It's only kept because a few people like it so much, but Monaco is the main site skin. For those features, you will have to switch to Monaco. Sorry -- sannse

[edit] Problem with problems :)
Ahoy Sannse, I am an administrator of the German Uncyclopedia. We have an issue with the "problem reports". It seems I cannot address a problem reporter by mail. I can fill in the form with the email to a problem reporter, but when I click "Send" the system responds with "You are not authorized to perform this action. Reason: authorizing error" (or something to that effect, the message is in German). I should think that as an administrator I should be allowed to use this email function - who else? My co-admin confirmed that he has the same problem. Could you look into this? Thank you. 15px NaturalBornKieler (Diskussion) 09:13, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Or, you can set up a blacklist just for a single wiki, by editing "MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist" on that wiki. The format is the same as for the global list. Hope that helps -- sannse

[edit] Images
Hi there. I've been noticing that recently many of the images on the Castle Crashers Wiki are not displaying. Some examples of this are the main page, there should be four knights displayed and their are only three, and the Thin Sword page, there should be an image in the infobox but there isn't. Do you have any suggestions for fixing this? Thanks- Aburnett 23:07, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, it looks OK to me now. I know there have been some problems with the server cache recently - which means images (and templates) are not being updated as quickly as they should be. But I understand that's fixed now. I'll find out more on that today. If you see the problem again, try adding "?action=purge" (no quotes) to the end of the URL for the page. That may force it to update. And let me know if you see the problem again. Thanks -- sannse
(talk) 08:52, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hmmm, that's strange, its still not displaying correctly for me, even after using "?action=purge". I've checked and I have the most recent version of Firefox, so I don't believe that that's the problem. if you have any other tips they would be appreciated, but if it's displaying correctly for other users than hopefully it will work itself out for me! [edit] Can user access levels be modified?
Hi, I would like to know if it would be possible to change the user access levels required to grant rights on a certain wiki without changing them for the rest of Wikia (for example, bureaucrats granting bot flags and administrators granting rollback). I haven't started a discussion about this yet; I would just like to know if it would be possible if there were consensus on a wiki to do so. Thanks. SUL 17:16, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, SUL. Yes, it is possible to make such changes, if this is something your community wants as a change, you need some discussion/consensus, and then ask Wikia. I'm not sure what changes they're willing to make, however. --CharitwoTalk 17:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- As Charitwo says, it's technically possible. However, we don't often make such changes, simply because it becomes more difficult to manage thousands of wikis with lots of different settings and such. If there is a really good reason to make the change, we'll consider it, but I can't guarantee anything :) -- 12:15, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Regardless of the fact that I do own a website and a blog (daedryon.webs.com & daedryon.blogspot.com), as well as the obviously named YouTube account, I don't want a Wikia in my name to become a reason for anyone with a grudge against me to try to hack me and gain control of my account. The wiki has the potential to be the vehicle for over a quarter million Toastmasters to each make their own contribution to this program.
Resolving the issue of which pages had material copyrighted by Toastmasters International was the subject of an ongoing correspondence between User:ErichV, myself, and the representative of Toastmasters International, Camy McGeath, dating from 24 April 2009. (The pages you deleted are exactly those mentioned in her email of that date.) However, we ourselves were already engaged in our own review of all of the pages in the document tree (not just the top-level pages you deleted). Our most recent communication from Ms McGeath was, “I will wait to hear back from you.” By deleting the pages, you have made these efforts moot.
Some of the pages deleted, though, were not actually claimed to contain copyrighted information. Ms McGeath's exact language was “we have found pages that are under construction to display further copyrighted materials”. This does not seem to me to be “Possible copyright violation” at all, and Ms McGeath's construction of our intent to display copyrighted information is itself a speculation on her part, not a claim of copyright violation.
There is an aspect of the present discussion that you may not be aware of, namely that the Toastmasters International online catalog is expressly 'not' under copyright, and that much of the content on the pages under consideration was based on that source. I believe that what Ms McGeath might be confused over is that some of that same content may appear in other, copyrighted, material (e.g., the Toastmasters International catalog, which is itself available for free download from their website, albeit copyrighted). Furthermore, substantially the same information is being served up on multiple websites on the Internet, and these pages have been in existence for years.
As one of the concerned parties and the creator of the pages involved, I would like to know what Erich and I may expect in future? Will our wiki pages be deleted whenever a claim of copyright violation is communicated to you, regardless of its merit? What will satisfy wikia.com that a page we may create is free of copyright violation in the face of possibly erroneous claims to the contrary by a third party (like Toastmasters International. Inc.)? (I do understand the legal exposure of your own firm in this matter, and I certainly have no desire to jeopardize your firm or our relationship.)
- Hi, this is an issue we will have to deal with via email. You can contact us at community@wikia.com or via the contact form. In the mean time, admins are able to view deleted pages, categories with deleted text will still show lists of categorised pages (for example this one), and there is a full list of all pages on the wiki at w:c:toastmasters:Special:AllPages. So you should be able to review the other pages and solve any copyright issues. It's great to hear you are already working on this :) -- sannse

Hi,
On Désencyclopédie, Morpheusneon edited the Page Zététique while he had forgotten to log in. He asked me to hide his IP address so that no one could see it in the page history. Is it possible ? -- 20:16, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship removal
Hi Sannse, a while ago I requested to become an admin on the Dynasty Warriors Wiki and so i did become one, now however I would like to have that adminship removed. I am leaving the DW wiki due to the fact that I have no time to edit it anymore and have lsot the desire to do so, therfore I would like to have my adminship removed. Thanks in advance.--Aeonlord92 10:13, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, we don't usually worry about removing flags when admins decide to move on... there's no harm in leaving them in most cases, and it means they are there if the admin changes their mind one day. So I'd recommend just leaving it, there is no obligation for you to edit :) -- sannse

[edit] Admin Tools Wiki
Hi, after you replied to my messages at #Can_user_access_levels_be_modified.3F, I started 2 polls and a discussion on Admin Tools Wiki about allowing bureaucrats to give +/- bot and administrators to give +/- rollback. The discussions and polls at Admin Tools Wiki:Noticeboard have lasted for 2 weeks now and there is clear consensus that most users would like these changes. The reason for these changes is mainly because several users on the wiki would like to test the bot user rights that are not included in other user groups (such as bot, nominornewtalk and suppressredirect); therefore, it would be easier if the bureaucrat (User:RyanCross) could give bot flags to users so that it is not necessary to ask Wikia Staff every time. Since administrator rights are given to almost any user who is active on other wikis, administrators giving rollback should not be a problem either. Please could you tell me how these changes can be made? Thanks. SUL 15:35, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, as I said above, we don't usually do this. I've passed this on to the rest of the team for discussion -- sannse

[edit] Need Adminship removed
Hey Saanse, it's Spike's Girl from the ThatGuyWithTheGlasses/Channel Awesome wiki. We've just been informed by the staff at TGWTG that one of their admins has lost his privileges on both the site and the wikia, effective as of now. Could you please remove his admin status here? We have banned him, but his status still needs to be taken away. The user in question is ThatAussieGuy. We would really, really appreciate it if you could do this. Thanks! ~Spike's Girl of the TGWTG wiki

Hey sannse, in addition to what Spike's Girl just said, could you remove the adminship of this user on the Webkinz Fanon Wiki. I saw that Icmer In Nys (the lead bureaucrat) had banned him, taken away the powers that he could and deleted his page but then I tried the same thing on myself and I escaped from that predicament easily, so once again, can you please take away the powers of this user--Webkinz the Bcrat yaps +look 04:33, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- Admin rights had already been removed. I removed bureaucrat rights. It's very strange that this oddly named account with no edits had that right anyway... it's not something that should be given out that carelessly -- sannse

[edit] Page counts
Is there a way to find out what the 30,000th page was on memory-alpha? (or if it's a stupid page - like a talk page - what the 30,000+ new cool page is?) Thanks :) — Morder 10:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- This is the oldest existing page @memory-alpha: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Help:Editing Let's call it page #1.
- This is the newest page: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Talk:Sherry_(beverage) It's ranked at #85538. (I do count redirects here, it's quick hack, not solid MediaWiki stats.)
- If we order pages in this way, page #30,000 is... tada.wav... http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/The_Garden Is it ok for your needs? -- Nef
(talk) 19:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Not quite the right page, the 30,000 page (according to what constitutes and article) should have happened within the past month or so because right now we sit at about 30,400 or so pages. :) — Morder 20:08, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Basically, I was going for some sort of "Congratulations Memory-Alpha - we've reached our 30,000th article" (and making article a link to the article...which, hopefully wouldn't be a talk page or something boring :) ) — Morder 01:12, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the help -_-
Incase you couldn't tell, the title is sarcastic.
I come to you, needing a CheckUser done on a few people, which you seem to do for everyone else (and you did one on me for christ sakes) and what do you do? Delete the conversation and tell me to use Contact.
I take it the fact that Knuckles The Echidna is a sockpuppet of a person who was wikia-wide banned by Uberfuzzy has no meaning to you.
And I'm also guessing that because of the Runescape Wikia's mis-labelling me as Total Rune, when in actuality, he is a neighbour and friend of mine, obviously has nothing to do with this.
I seriously don't know why anyone comes to you for help, since all you do is tell them all to use Contact.
This is the last time I ask you or any other Wikia staff for help. T 20:18, 9 June 2009 (UTC)- Hi, Club Penguin is a very specific and long term issue. Because of that, we ask that all messages about that wiki are sent by Special:Contact. And because of the number and types of mail we get about the wiki, we do not guarantee that we will reply to all. I also strongly recommend that, unless an issue from CP directly impacts your home wiki, that you (and all users) leave the wiki to its community. [edit] About my new Wikia
I just made one, located here, for my own educational purposes, sort of a sandbox for me to test out various Wiki-features. - Webkinz Mania has 3
- Alex001 has 23

[edit] Enriched text
Please tell us how to take advantage of the new enriched text, I tried it yesterday but had to disable it when I couldn't get a link to work. I typed a link in the way I normally would but after I saved it it came out as, [[Hell]]. It's here, I tried again, here. Then after 2 edits that could be mistaken for vandalism I read up how to turn enriched text off and haven't risked trying it again. Proxima Centauri 11:19, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- What you do is you click a button in the toolbar that opens up a new form to create a link. This might be simpler for newer users, but if you have used wikitext for quite a while (like you and me), it is simpler to switch to source mode if you want to make a lot of links in a short time. Hoping this helps, and with apologies to sans for interrupting, Wjxhuang, the 888th Avatar {Talk} 12:24, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's likely that some wiki markup (including [[links]]) will work in a future version. The feedback we've had is that this would be helpful, and that there are more occasions when people will want brackets to make a link than for them to want them to be "nowiki-ed". So watch this space :) -- sannse

Dear Sannse, I am being attacked by Bummmer on his wiki, the Megapoo Wiki. How can you allow this to be created? HE is only using it to attack me, on this account and also on MeleeOwner, so please can you do something? Thank you, Jam08Jam
- It seems this is much more to do with off-line issues than Wikia - as everyone on that wiki is editing from the same place. [edit] Dear Sannse
Dear Angela,
We have since several months a problem concerning the situation on the wiki and between the users
There is a bureaucrat that has vandalized our wiki and that has blocked several innocent people... Our wiki is about a fictional republic called Libertas He nearly caused a war between users by separating a part of the country. And nobody could stop him because of his admin rights. He has already taken somebody's admin rights away (of User:TahR78) without a reason. He starts blackmailing me, the chosen president of the republic, that he'll take my rights too if I don't obey. He already said that he wants to make other users, friends of his, admins. I would like to ask you if you want to help us. Today he has deleted more than 120 articles (!)
It's about the bureaucrat User:Ooswesthoesbes that is able to cause an online war on this wiki, that will cause another inactive wiki. There have been many fights this month so I would please ask you if you could prevent this situation by taking his admin rights. "This user has already caused many fights. When he is getting sick of it, he autoblocks himself and says he'll leave. This happened for already 14' (see log/block) times.
The link of the wiki: [http:www.stad.wikia.com Wikistad] The name of the bureaucrat: Oostwesthoesbes Recent deleted articles: Deleted articles The persons he has blocked:Blocked persons
Yours sincerely, Greenday2

[edit] IP block problem
See section 27, Personal attacks on a wiki? The global IP block is causing MASSIVE problems with the non-vandals who actually want to do good on the wikis. Can you please change the block so that it is anonymous users only, please. We are fine with the global block, keep account creation off to prevent vandals, but please make it anonymous users only and leave any vandals set up on other computers to the specific wiki’s admins. We are not all vandals here, we are a school with some vandals. Please allow the ones who want to do good to continue editing our favourite wikis. Thank you very much, MeleeOwner, Spokesperson.
- Having looked at some of your contributions, I don't see a reason to change the block at this time. -- sannse

[edit] What to do about Template:GFDL image template?
What is to be done about links to the above template? There are 57 links on Wikia:Christianity alone. Should it be done manually or can a bot do it? I've changed every other Copyright link from GFDL to CC-BY-SA. Kathleen.wright5 12:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi. Uberfuzzy has been using a bot to fix templates, but he's not automatically doing image templates. Images aren't necessarily affected by the switch, although they can be moved to the CC license. If Christianity wants to do that for image, I can ask Uber to help with the change -- sannse

[edit] Unfair Block
Dear Sannse,
On the Log Wiki, I was believe blocked unfairly. This problem now has two instances (the other wasn't related to me personally, so I didn't take action) the other being Walrus1. This user, Icenator189 is harassing the users of that wiki. I (and walrus) have 0 edits there yet I am blocked and insulted as seen on my talk page for no apparent reason than he doesn't like me. I would like to request that you either:Take away his powers or (the more probable one) close the wiki. If you go to the wiki, you will see that it has 0 articles to do with logs and is just used to get back at users. Thanks in advance. (Webkinz112)

[edit] NekdozWikipedie - returning vandal
Hi Sannse, I need some advice about one vandal, that keeps returning again and again. We BANned him and his 3 puppet accounts, but he keeps returning through proxy servers and he's insulting almost all active users. I just don't know how to get rid of him. I just have to keep reverting his attacks...
What would you do?? I would really appreciate any kind of help..
from Necyklopedie --Ráďa 19:09, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe temporary global lock for editing I.P.'s and creating new accounts.. He's really ruinig everything and we would write a sitenotice and apologise to all other i.p.s... Of course if it is possible for just 1 wiki... And if it is possible at all... --Ráďa 10:41, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi Ráďa, I see the Necyklopedie has the protect site extension enabled. I think this is what you need. This allows admins to lock the site from editing, or moves, and so on. You can choose whether this affects anon users only, or all except admins. It's not a feature that should be over-used, and it should only be used as a protection in a vandalism attack, but I think it will help you.
