Wikia - creating communities
July 2006 - December 06
[edit] The House of Fanon
In the last two months Ive been here at this Wiki the election for administrators has not stopped. And yet we have a war, the Vandal War going on right behind us. We cant entrust simple users to take out vandals, what if they just want glory and fame. It could be them. Than the administrators, what if they don't like eachother or dont work together or if theyre power hungry vandals than what? We need a goverment not individual governors. The goverment is called the House of Fanon representide by two partys, the Typhillian Council and the Fanon Council. We meet their, take opinions from users and other stuff to make this community better.- Darth Vacatour
[edit] Apologizing for Prop 270
I have had a change of heart. Proposition 270 is no longer in effect and administrators will stay. However The House of Fanon will stay and work as a sub goverment beneath the administrators. Hopefully we can also work with The Fanon Council. Sincerly apologizing, DV
[edit] Article discussion
I don't think discussion on an article belongs in the article page. I really think that an undermining paragraph is inappropriate to post right underneath one point because one simply disagrees. Their point could easily be brought up under the opposung arguements heading.--158.136.74.58 19:34, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MWB for Wikia
Hi Lisa,
I've created Wikia:AWB for AWB/MWB related things on Wikia. Feel free to edit Wikia:AWB as you see fit.
There is also a checkpage at Wikia:AWB/CheckPage, which is meant to list all users that are allowed to use that software on Wikia. I will build a security mechanism into MWB that reads this checkpage before letting a user save a page with MWB.
I propose to fully protect Wikia:AWB/CheckPage, so that only sysops can edit that page. Requests to add allowed users should/will be added at Wikia talk:AWB/CheckPage. --Ligulem 11:41, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- All looks great, thanks. I've protected the checkpage - we don't need it until everything is working anyway :) -- sannse (talk) 12:56, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well. The sources are GPL and thus available at Sourceforge for everyone (required by the GPL). I'm not allowed to give executables to anyone without making the sources publicly available. That's why we need the protection right from the beginning. Even before I submit the sources. The checkpage is such a simple thing to do so, I thought it's best to do it right from the beginning. I don't want to hack on a hidden code line anyway. --Ligulem 15:30, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Adiministratorship
Hello, I'm has founder of the Sportpedia and I want be it's administrator, but I don't no how I can join like that as only for election because I don't trust for otherbody. Help me please. --Urheiluhullu July 10, 19.30 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. You are set as admin for that wiki, and should see the extra tabs there for deleting and so on. Is there a problem with that? -- sannse (talk) 16:53, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bobby Boulders
bobbys back and vandalizing on sw fanon!help were outnumbered!!! (Darth Vacatour)
Two things, One, I think Bobby was using two accounts when you banned him just now so you may want to check it out. Another thing, Bobby redirected my talk to user:Esklavo. I was wondering whether that was an innocent user or a vandal so you may want to check it out. Thanks :) MaulYoda
- Yes, I've banned all the accounts, and the IP he was using. U&ser:Esklavo doesn't exist, that was a fake user page. -- sannse (talk) 21:36, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Psychology Wiki
Hey Sannse,
I left some messages on you Depression Wiki talk page today, but realised that maybe THIS page was a better one to get you on. I'm seriously trying to market the Psychology Wiki at the moment, and had some ideas in which you could contribute to the depression areas and how we could help to increase awareness of the depression wiki by copying our user depression experiences to your 'Our Stories' section. Have a look to see what I mean.
Hope you are feeling well today :) Mostly Zen 22:56, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
PS I asked Jim Wales to have a look at our site and maybe give us a mention somewhere. Here is my message to him.
Could I be cheeky and beg for you to vote for us to be nominated on Featured wikia?
Im off to bed now, goodnight Mostly Zen 23:04, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A good read
http://psychology.wikia.com/wiki/User:Unhappy_Larry/Experience
http://www.wikia.com/wiki/User:Gil
Thanks Gil, it's one we have on the depression wikia too. We are looking at linking more between the two wikis, we have a similar subject but a bit of a different approach to it - should be good to make both easy to travel between :) -- sannse (talk) 14:18, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] SWFanon reminder
Did you remember to ban the vandal David Iill? Because he's still posting on his talk page. --Pinata 12:32, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Just figured I'd make sure. --Pinata 12:47, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Interwiki
Many thanks. :) Good to see them and know the rest non-Wikia are not forgotten. Szoferka 20:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Never forgotton, we are just sometimes sadly slow at gettting things done and people told :( but we are trying to do better -- sannse (talk) 20:55, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Same here. Many thanks for the interwikis at Anegkyklopaideia. --Dada 10:26, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Database errors
Hey, I need your help! My project have database error(s), I can't upload files and categories are empties, even if I to list articles to here! --Urheiluhullu 17:55, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I've been away, looking now -- sannse (talk) 15:46, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Forums for the Aircraft Wiki
Hi Sannse. I would like to set up forums in the Aircraft Wiki, and it says to contact you for help with that. Thanks in advance. --OuroborosCobra 00:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi OuroborosCobra, no problem. Do you want the first two sections to have the standard names ("help desk" and "watercooler") or did you have an idea for something more personal? Something like "control tower" and "lounge"? -- sannse (talk) 09:31, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay, I was thinking long and hard about this. What I would like is "control tower" and "flight line". Also be advised that from roughly 28 July through 6 August I will not have an internet connection, so will not be able to do any updates. Just telling you so you don't think I have abandoned things. Thank you muchly. --OuroborosCobra 03:47, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] No Forum link yet in Perl Wikia navigation block
Hi Lisa,
I would like to have a link to the Forums in the navigation block, right between the links to "Current events" and "Recent changes."
The last two bullets in the highlighted block in Help:Forums confuse me:
I did this first one, and I added the code right between "n-currentevents" and "n-recentchanges," but I see no effect.
- Add to the local MediaWiki:Monobook.js: ta['ca-nstab-forum'] = new Array('c','View the forum page');
I can't do this second one, because I don't know the proper syntax to add the link to Forum:Index, so an example is needed here in Help:Forums.
- Add (optionally) a link to Forum:Index to the local MediaWiki:Sidebar
Thanks for your help.
Wikia:c:Perl:User_talk:Ermeyers 16:45, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the link to w:c:perl:MediaWiki:Sidebar, you can see the format there, and move it up or down as you prefer. It's also possible to split the navigation box into more sections, see the Central version for an example of this. I'm not sure what the java script is about, I know nothing of js. I'm afraid. I think Splarka added that as part of the hot-keys system, but I will have to check with him to know for sure. I'll get back to you on that one. -- sannse (talk) 17:29, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hot-keys: Correct. All namespaces should (in theory) link to the subject with alt+c and to the talk page with alt+t, but it isn't automatically done on custom namespaces for the subject. As Forum: is now a global namespace I've asked john/jason to add it to the default for Monobook.js (but until then it'll have to be manually, for those who need it). --Splarka (talk) 01:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Swfanon
You may have recently heard that a Vandal War has broken out across wikimedia. The English Wiki, Memory Alpha, and Wookiepedia, as well as SW Fanon which suffered most of the attacks, have been attacked. At SW Fannon we created a Proposition called Prop 3 which allows users to put like a block or shield over there articles and user pages, this would stop vandals from vandalizm. The only way anyone else but the author can edit the page is if he asks on the talk page. This could be a excellent start and we have large crowds voting especially in support. I beg youll allow the prop to go through. Im guessing putting up a protect block. - DV
Yeah hey, Prop 3 has been passed on SWFanon so we need you to make like a special template that will allow users to protect their own articles and user pages to make sure noone else touches them without permision. Okay, thanks from SW Fanon - DV

[edit] The Non-Canon Star Trek Wiki
I don't know if this is the right place to post this problem, but I thought I would give it a shot. I have been a member of the NCSTW know for nearly three months, and posted many articles along with other members on the site. We are a good, but small group who enjoy posting new articles. But I think that everyone is in agreement that the wiki needs improving in one way or another.
The site is guarded over by the founder and an administrator, but the founder has not made any significant contributions to the wiki in over a month, and many issues or suggestions that have been made about the state of the wiki or potential improvements have gone largely ignored. Discussions about an appropriate name and logo have been ongoing since August 2005 yet nothing has been heeded. Now don't get me wrong, I known that people have lives to lead, but as their is only a founder and only 1 administrator for the wiki, I believe the standard has begun to drop.
Myself and several other users have made adjustments to the site to enhance the overall look but can only go so far without administrator rights. I have tried to contact both the founder and the administrator, but their emails have not been included on their user profile, and any user talk goes ignored.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :-) --The Doctor, 16:25, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, according to their contributions lists, Chops was around 10 days ago, and Lieutenant Ayala was editing yesterday. So it seems they are still around, even if they haven't edited community pages for a while. The best thing to do is to talk to them on their User talk pages about how active they are and the discussions they may have missed. They can then help with making or requesting any changes needed. Both of them are able to make new admins too, and if the site is nicely active it might be a good time for that now. I'm sure this is something that the community can work on together, but let me know if you need any help. -- sannse (talk) 13:12, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Forum help page.
Hi Sannse, That Help:Forum set up page does help in that it shows me all that standard setup that was originally assumed to have been done in the Help:Forums page.
But, rather than restating those last two special edits that I didn't understand, I think that you should just tell the reader to begin reading the Help:Forums page at that point. Or maybe there should be a line added at the top of Help:Forums to point to this Help:Forum set up page.
The highlighted block in Help:Forums needs two things.
For the hot-key edit, you might want to suggest to the reader exactly where to put that hot-key text into the file.
For the navigation block edit, you definitely need to show the proper syntax, so that the reader knows exactly what to put into the file.
- '** Forum:Index|Forum'
This text here is what I couldn't guess. --Ermeyers 14:39, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I removed the set up bits from help:forums when I added them to this new page. I think it works better to have the whole set up there, and then help:forums can develop into a general help page for existing forums (in needs information on archiving and further customisation for example). I've added the other changes you suggested to the set-up page, hopefully that will make it clearer to follow the whole set up. Thanks for the feedback -- sannse (talk) 15:51, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Draft
Hi Sannse, I had originally tried to ask this question to Angela, but she's been busy I guess. I recently found Category:Draft, and I just want to know if that is what Angela used, when she created the Perl Wikia for me. That way, by reading all about Category:Draft, I might have a much better idea of all that you started me out with. Thanks. --w:c:Perl:User_talk:Ermeyers 16:24, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- At the moment, the starter wikia is a work in process. The idea is that these pages will be added to new wikia automatically, but that isn't happening yet. It needs some changes to the software, and that's not very high on the to-do list at the moment. But the pages are very much available to copy, and I can help with that if you need it. -- sannse (talk) 16:17, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Darth Vacatour
There are vandals threating us on SWFanon, I think that they are all Darth Vacatour. Could you please take a look? Ewoksfist 22:21, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- No, I don't think they are Darth Vacatour, the IP information suggests not. It looks like TempMan/Johnny etc. again. I've blocked two accounts, and will check back later to see what's going on -- sannse (talk) 08:51, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for all your help. :) Ewoksfist 17:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Problems
sannse - I was in the livechat. I could see what others said, but when I entered text, it did not seem to appear. Since reverting that last set of vandalism, my Wikia skin is messed up. I wanted to report that, and find out if it was more general. But, since I couldn't "say" anything... :-( --CocoaZen 21:10, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi CocoaZen, I could see you in the channel, and see you type "test", but then you lost connection. On the skin, I've not seen that at all - what is it you are seeing? Can you try 1. resetting your skin in your preferences, 2. logging out and back in. 3. do a hard refresh on your browser (usually Ctrl F5). If this doesn't work, maybe you can upload a screen-shot so I can see more? -- sannse (talk) 21:17, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Glad to hear others aren't having the problems. (I use the default skin.) Will try the various resets you recommended.
- I couldn't even see the word "test" in the chat, but I could see other people's input. Sigh... probably has to do with the firewalls around here.
- Thanks! --CocoaZen 21:22, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Changing the skin works for now. MonoBook (default) is the only one that seems to have been (temporarily) clobbered. Symptoms are much larger text; ads at the top of the page; links that usually appear at the very top of the page (my user page, talk, preferences, etc.) are behind the logo. It's weird, but I think I can handle it. Thanks again.
- And thank you for letting me know that the list was intentional. Coming right on the heels of the vandal and an advertiser, I over-reacted. I appreciate the clarification and the understanding. --CocoaZen 21:43, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
No problem! and thanks for the rose :) -- sannse (talk) 21:45, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Darth Vacatour/Senior Porcupine
On the SWFanon Wiki, can you check if their IPs are the same? Senior Porcupine just signed as DV. Bub 22:01, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Sansse please I beg you to unban me at swfanon i know it was wrong but i dindt know then. Im really sorry please i wont do it again please just give me a chance i beg you. - DV
[edit] I think you should know about this.
Today, a user with the name of Darth Vacatour vandalized Wikipedia, as well as a user called Zotoros Infinite (his original SWFanon name) Also, a few minutes later, an "ISV" vandal named BobbyBoulders22 vandalized on Wikipedia. Could you check into this? Bub 00:25, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
I don't know how to use IRC, so I'll contact you this way. There are two vandals on SW Fanon that are uploading obscene images, and I am far too sick to go on the pages and revert them. I don't know if you left already or not, but I'll try to get to other admins. C3PO the Dragon Slayer 16:30, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the reverts. I've not gone yet (been packing today) I'm leaving tomorrow, but other staff will be around. I should have connection once I get to the conference, so I won't be totally out of touch -- sannse (talk) 20:21, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Never mind about that other message, now Darth Vacatour is claiming to be Jimbo Kennedy, that annoying vandal that attacked all those random wikis. Bub 19:45, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Multi-language visit template
I have created two versions of the language visit template you requested one of them uses the front part of the actual URL to create the list [1] the other uses the interwiki link. The interwiki link version is the current one [2], but if you think the external link version is better just revert it to the version in the link above. Also does it need anything changing in the style? Lcarsdata (Talk) 10:49, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Merging into World
Lisa, A couple of weeks ago you asked me to create Silicon Valley as the first wikia on local.wikia. Gil & others are now talking about merging all place-based wikia into the new world.wikia. Would you please share your thoughts in the Forum? Thanks; Leo LJR 12:31, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Leo, I'm in Boston at the moment with Gil and a lot of the other Wikia staff. We are talking about this right at the moment. I think everyone agrees (here and on the forum) that it's going to be a good idea to merge some of the current wikia - there is just too much duplication. It seems that where the ideas for Local and Cities are going that those two really are too close. But the ideas you have don't quite fit into Cities. So it looks like we are back to idea 1, a wiki specifically for Silicon Valley organizations. I think using just the name "Sillicon Valley" makes it sound as though it's about all aspects of the area, so how about "Sillicon Valley Groups" with the URL siliconvalleygroups? Or any other ideas? Sorry to chop and change like this, it's such a work in progress, and ideas keep moving! So let me know what you think -- sannse (talk) 22:08, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Lisa - I understand about the chopping & changing, part of the process. There are a couple of groups that show up when I search for "Silicon Valley Groups". Originally, I thought of "Silicon Valley Communities" or "Silicon Valley Commons" but did not ask for these urls because they're too long. My preference would be "Silicon Valley Commons" with siliconvalley.wikia.com as the url, if I can talk you into that. Leo (talk) 01:54, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Lisa, I know you're busy at Wikimania, just need to know when more or less the decision will be made. If it will take some time, should I keep developing my site? Would I have to re-edit each page to make the move? Thanks; Leo|Talk 13:07, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Leo, we can move pages no problem with the export import system. But it's a bit tricky to do that on this computer (tiny buttons!) So I'll make the wiki now, and then help transfer pages when I get back to England and onto my usual computer. -- sannse (talk) 20:22, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Lisa! Should I insert the Delete Template into each of the old WikiLocal pages, or will they just vanish voluntarily? Looks like I have to correct some errors I made in the pages & templates I'd created, but will test the new tools as soon as I can, and will give you feedback. Leo|Talk 12:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll clear out the old pages on Local, the whole site will be redirected soon anyway, so any left will go then. The best way to watch all pages is to use w:c:siliconvalley:Special:Recentchanges recent changes. This lists all changes to all pages, so gives you the same information as the watchlist. The only thing it doesn't currently do is mail you on changes. You can automatically watch all pages you edit (see preferences) but not all new pages or all existing pages. -- sannse (talk) 13:40, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Lisa - I really liked the look that you gave Christianity, so I nicked it for siliconvalley. (Not very Christian, I know, but it is better to give than to receive). I'd like to give it a greener theme some day. Can you point me to things a dummy like me can understand? I tried to read m:Skins but kept running out of aspirin. I just need to know which parts of monobook control which parts of the page. Also, is there a color table/palette out there somewhere? I'd rather not be typing random codes and refreshing pages just to see how gross I can make them look. Thanks; Leo|Talk 23:34, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Forum request
I found this page, and it said to ask you for assistance, so here I am... Well, I'm an editor on the RuneScape Wiki, and I was wondering if you could set up the forum on the wiki. We already have the namespace, it's just the setup of the actual forums we need done. Thanks! Oddlyokotalk 00:04, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sannse is away at wikimania so might be a bit busy. I'll see what I can do. --Splarka (talk) 10:56, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Template:Navigate_list_of_health_interests_for_Ermeyers
Hi Lisa,
Help! I created this Health Interests navigation template which I'm trying to get located correctly, so that I can access it across the various Health related Wikia communities. Is this possible? If not, it should be.
If it is possible, and I can get it there, then what is the correct interwiki link, and how do I get to it later to edit it? Thanks. Eric (I'm watching here) --Ermeyers 12:58, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Nevermind I got it working using {{wikicities:Navigate_list_of_health_interests_for_Ermeyers}}. --Ermeyers 13:15, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- You should use wikia rather than wikicities really, but I think both work. Let me know if you have more problems -- sannse (talk) 19:27, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- wikia doesn't appear to work, and that's is why I used wikicities instead, because wikicities worked. --Ermeyers 18:11, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sannse - I've encountered this problem too. Unfortunately, I can't remember the details right now (will try to test later), but sometimes wikia: doesn't work where wikicities: still does. (Capitalization is relevant too.)
- Hope you had a good trip back home. --CocoaZen 18:36, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Aha, that seems to be the key to this bug. It certainly used to work with "wikia:", but for some reason it's reverted to the old style. I've added that to the bug report and mailed the staff. I'm hoping this information will make it a lot easier to find and fix the problem.
- The trip back was fine thanks, but boy was I tired! I slept all day yesterday and then all night too. Hope yours was good too. It was fantastic meeting you and the others -- sannse (talk) 10:06, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] About Basspedia and Szoferka
Hi!
I'm glad you wrote to me
From what I hear, you have had a dispute with Szoferka on the
Polish Uncyclopedia
Case is not that simple. Szoferka is the one that mixes diffrent
wikias affairs. She said, that she is "powerfull enought to send
basspedia up with smoke". I dont want to life in stress, awared
that I can loose it anytime.
I guest Szoferka didn't tell you that since July 24 there is an
alternative for polish Uncyclopedia (in polish - Nonsensopedia but
for a long time Szoferkopedia), this called
Wikihumor (www.wikihumor.ovh.org) and, according to founders word, the only reason
that this site has been created is Szoferka. After few days we got
20 users and most of them are refugees from nonsensopedia. One of
former nonsensopedias sysops wrote exhaustive specification of
Szoferkas conducts like bringing censorship (every attempt of
criticism, even these merits she calles vandalism or personal
atack - she reverts changes and bans those who dares to criticise
her (Nemo iudex in sua causa means nothin to her). There was a
"fight" about article nonsensopedia on polish wikipedia -
Szoferka isnt sysop there, so she couldnt baned her oponents - on
merits criticism she wrote ziew witch means to yawn, later
in discusion, wenn every other person said that Szoferka is
arrogant and she is, like we call it in Poland, like wall (we said,
that "conversation with you is like I talk to the wall) and that
they would never come to nonsensopedia she wrote, that she is glad,
that everyone here who criticised her is a internet troll
(including wikipedia distinguish sysops))). We are still
translating this document to englsh, so you will be able to
acquaint with whole case.
Whats about me -well, here are my contributions - Szoferka called me biggest vandal and troll on nonsensopedia. Korwin (www.wikihumor.ovh.org/wiki/index.php?title=U%C5%BCytkownik:Korwin)
- OK, thanks Korwin. I need to look at all this, but it's certainly not true that anyone can get the bass wikia shut down. There is no problem with your work there and no reason to deelte the content. I'm back at my own computer on Monday and will look more. -- sannse (talk) 20:22, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Power Cord
I've got your PC power cord. I'll try to stay in the live chat until we figure out a way to get it back to you. --CocoaZen 18:22, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks CocoaZen! got it now. -- sannse (talk) 20:22, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] More Star Wars Fanon Vandals...
Well, the trolls are back. Sorry to waste your time, or give you any fellings of exaspiration, but there is this vandal on Star Wars Fanon that wrote "This page has been freed by the Holy Druid" on a bunch of articles. Looking at edit histories, there are other recent vandals, but I haven't checked whether they were blocked. All of us at Star Wars Fanon, and even several Wookiepedians, are getting a bit tired reverting all of that. C3PO the Dragon Slayer 13:35, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Health wikia subpaging
Hi Lisa,
I'm currently working in the Health Wiki at w:c:Health, and I'm trying to get w:c:Health:Neurological disorders/BFS to have a subpage uplink to the higher level w:c:Health:Neurological disorders at the very top of the subpage. I've tried various name prefixes, but I just can't seem to find the correct naming to get it show up like I want it to.
- I first tried moving w:c:Health:Neurological disorders and w:c:Health:Neurological disorders/BFS to w:c:Health:Illness:Neurological disorders and w:c:Health:Illness:Neurological disorders/BFS, and that didn't fix it.
- I then moved w:c:Health:Illness:Neurological disorders and w:c:Health:Illness:Neurological disorders/BFS to w:c:Health:Health:Neurological disorders and w:c:Health:Health:Neurological disorders/BFS, and that didn't fix it.
What do I need to do to get the w:c:Health:Neurological disorders/BFS subpage to actually show that it is a subpage of w:c:Health:Neurological disorders by having a standard uplink to the higher level page at the top of the subpage? Thanks, Eric. (I'm watching here) --Ermeyers 18:37, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, what do I need to do to get a page speedily deleted in the Health Wiki? I've been using {{wikicities:delete}} to no avail. Thanks, Eric. (I'm still watching here) --Ermeyers 00:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Subpages are only turned on by default in the user: space, but we can turn them on for other namespaces if that's what you would like for the Health Wikia. On Wikipedia we made a decision not to use them for articles, but that doesn't mean all wikis have to follow that pattern.
- I'll have a look at pages for deletion and clean up any you have tagged, but I'll also look at admining - the founder(s) don't seem to have ever edited so new admins are needed. -- sannse (talk) 10:59, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Setting up forums on the Health wiki
I've done most of the stuff for getting forums working on Health. Given the direction that Eric seems to be heading, I'm thinking that it might be a good idea. However, not having admin access, I can't do the mediawiki aspects of setting it up. For that matter, it might be nice if I could have admin access, plus I think Eric might be a good candidate for admin as well. --Kirk 00:38, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the last bits to the forum, that should work now. Yes, admins are needed there, I'll look into this a little later today. -- sannse (talk) 11:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks --Kirk 17:54, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mentoring
Hey, Sannse! It was great meeting you this weekend -- I'm really happy that I know everybody now.
I did some work tonight on the Wikia Mentoring Project page -- please take a look, and help me fix it up. I looked at the list of new Wikia, and I think we may need to do a little more to help mentors find a wiki that they can help with. Is it possible to see the descriptions and founders' names? I would feel more comfortable as a mentor if I walked into a new wiki and already knew who to talk to. What do you think? -- Danny (talk) 03:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- It was great to meet you too Danny :)
- There is an info link on each of the new wikis on the list you've linked to, that leads to the description page, which gives the founder's name and a description of the wiki. It would be good to have that somewhere more directly, but I'm reluctant to add yet another step to the edits we have to do to set up a new wiki. I've been wondering if we can do it with templates or something, but can't see a way at the moment. Maybe the link will do for now, and we can think of another idea later? Does that sound OK? -- sannse (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Soap wikis?
Hi Sannse: You mentioned the other day that there were a couple of Wikia based on soap operas. I looked on the list, and I can't spot them... Do you know which ones they are? I'd like to check them out. -- Danny (talk) 17:29, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- The two I'd describe that way are Dark Shadows and The O.C.. Looking at the list, there are less than I expected though. -- sannse (talk) 18:13, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- *g* I would have loved to have this discussion in person - what's best? a narrow subject that quickly gets into detail but may run out of topics in time? or a wider subject that lacks content for longer but always has more subjects to edit? I tend towards the latter, but some of the most successful wikis have gone for the former. But either way, you pretty much have a free pass for any wiki you want to start, having shown what you can do already. So just let me know what you want to try for your next project when you are ready, and I'll set it up -- sannse (talk) 21:51, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's a good question. I would tend towards going narrow, just because it's possible to get into more depth. Any subject has potentially infinite amounts of detail if you look at it hard enough. But I can see it either way. We could easily have applied for a separate wiki just for Sesame Street, but instead we put all the Muppet stuff together, so we get to make all the connections between the shows. Anyway, I'm just gonna apply for OLTL because I don't care about the other shows. Whenever somebody comes along to do the other soaps, I'll wave at them and be supportive. -- Danny (talk) 22:24, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Permissions
Sannse - Could you please give Kirk administrative (or bureaucratic) rights in the Judaism Wikia. He's been reverting vandalism, and it would be helpful if he could also do things like delete pages. (You can give me bureaucratic rights too, if you want, but I'm ok without.) --CocoaZen 23:33, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Done on both. Something else that wiki needs is a new logo! I might have a go at that when I finish work-stuff today -- sannse (talk) 08:39, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, please, your help creating a new logo for there and for Cities would be greatly appreciated. I created those as temporary logos to help make it easier to navigate, but would be happy to see them replaced. Maybe as well as the Wikia Mentoring Project it would be nice to have a place where those of us who are "graphics challenged" could go to request help. :-) --CocoaZen 14:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CollinWiki
Hi Lisa -- CollinWiki looks kind of abandoned to me. Of the two main contributors, Doug (the founder) hasn't really been working on it since April, and Brian left around February.
I think there's a few obvious reasons why the wiki failed -- it's all black, which is terribly difficult to read and focus on, plus the explanation for how contributors can help is impossibly complicated. Plus they never said hi to anybody.
Would it be possible to give me adminship on that, so I could fix it up a bit and maybe make it a little more contributor-friendly? -- Danny (talk) 17:44, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK, if you think you have time for another project. I've added you there - have fun :) -- sannse (talk) 18:05, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] me podrias ayudar

- Hello, I'm afraid I don't speak or understand Spanish, so it's difficult for me to follow what you are saying. But I think you are complaining about your wikia request being rejected. You asked for a Spanish Encyclopedia with a light, humourous tone. This seems to me to be too close to the Spanish Wikipedia, and we have a policy of not creating projects that duplicate Wikimedia's. I'm sorry if you are unhappy with this decision, but it's not one I can change unless I have misunderstood the request. If you would prefer to mail me about this, I can be reached at community@wikia.com -- sannse (talk) 20:05, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Sannse. If you need help with Spanish requests/complaints I might be of some help. In short, the guy is demanding his encyclopedia-wiki on the grounds of his rights for "freedom of speech". He insists that his encyclopedia would be different from WP, becouse it would have different rules, a different NPOV and be less serious, the norms would be less Spain-centered and more Colombia-centered. It would also be different from Inciclopedia, which is completely irreverent (so he says) or another not wikia-hosted wiki called "Hablar mierda" (Speaking shit) which is dissgusting. He asks: If I set the wiki up again, will you keep turning it down? How shall I proceed? How can I appeal? Which style of norms can I use for my wiki? Is it possible to create a liscence (yes, he said to create, not to adopt or to follow), such as gfdl, cc. How can I do that? Or who should I talk to?--Rataube 02:03, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Rataube, I got some of that, but missed quite a bit I think - Spanish auto-translation seems rather poor to me. All that seems to reinforce my previous answer though, a change of emphasis and of tone is not enough for us to host a competitor to Wikipeida. Thanks again -- sannse (talk) 07:01, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks again.
Hi Lisa, Guybrush from the White Wolf Wikia here. At the risk of getting repetitive, I just wanted to thank you again for undoing the mass vandalism we experienced tonight. All the best with everything. -- Guybrush 13:44, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Spider-Man Wiki
Hello, Sannse. I was debating whether or not to ask you to make me an admin over at the Spider-Man wiki, as I am one of three people who sporadically uses it. I assumed that the original admin left for some reason and left it defenseless. I ask to be an admin there in case of something happening, vandalwise, or to help clean it up, as in deleting unneeded images, etc. I can understand if you do not wish me to be an admin there and respect any decision you make. Thanks for listening! NKSCF NK says NK's 'mazin' articles {{SUBST:sbrgreend}} 20:02, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Logos
Sannse -
The logos are GREAT! They don't all meet the 10 foot guideline, but I'd like to use the one you created for Cities. I don't see a way to move an image page. Do I need to download it and re-up-load it as wiki.png? I lose the history that way, but we still have the original image page, so I guess that's ok. (Please let me know if there's a better way to do it.) Would you be willing to create a favicon too?
Thanks!

[edit] Christian Community Meeting Please
Hi Lisa, I just checked into the Christianity Wikia, as w:c:Christianity:User:Ermeyers, and I left a message for the founder Nsandwich, who I later found out left Wikia to go somewhere else because of some Google issue, and now it appears that these want-to-be people are completely messing up my personal religion's message. All that I'm asking of you is to come over to my talk page at w:c:Christianity:User_talk:Ermeyers and give me your highly respected two-cent personal summary of what the heck is going on with these people. Thanks very much, Eric. --Ermeyers 00:35, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for coming over Lisa
I'm going to talk to the User named J.J., about the default forums, and I'll get back to you, or whatever. I just know that you know what you're doing.
- I'm going to suggest as the defaults
- Help desk
- Steering Committee (rather than Watercooler)
Thanks for everything, as always. Eric --Ermeyers 20:25, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Weird Message Notification
Good evening,
Everywhere I go on any wikia, I get a notification that I have a new message waiting at uncyclopedia, but when I click on the link to read my message, there's nothing there. Am I the only one having this problem? How do I get rid of the notification? You can respond here or on my talk page at Wiki24. Thanks. -Kapoli 05:49, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Kapoli, we turned on a new feature yesterday, that is supposed to give notification of messages across all wikia. It seems there are a few bugs still - Uncyclopedia has a different user database and so shouldn't be on this system. Hopefully this has been fixed now, you may need to refresh (usually Ctrl F5) to clear any, but then you shouldn't get more from Uncyclopedia. Please let me know if you do. thanks -- sannse (talk) 09:09, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Forum request
Hi Lisa, I've listed the layout of the two forums and two subforums that I'd like to start at w:c:Christianity:User_talk:Ermeyers#The first two default forums, so could you come over to discuss the subforum implementation with me. Thanks. Eric --Ermeyers 16:59, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll leave this for a few days to see what the community says, and then set this up -- sannse (talk) 07:18, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Lisa. --Ermeyers 12:11, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jack Kerouac Wikia request
Hi Lisa, I was asked to check in with you regarding progress on my request for the Jack Kerouac wikia. I have so far filed an application (on 8/5/06), requested mentoring (Danny has replied to this) and am still waiting for approval. I have also posted my game plan in the proposed wiki section, although I cannot find the page at the moment. Thanks for your help. Kerojack, Argenta 20:32, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Kerojack, I've got the reply to my email you sent, and I'll be making this wiki today. Sorry for the delay! -- sannse (talk) 07:18, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I'd like to adopt this Christianity Wikia
Hi Lisa, For your information, I wrote w:c:Christianity:Christianity_Knowledge_Base:Community_Portal#I'd like to adopt this Christianity Wikia. Eric --Ermeyers 22:08, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK, this needs time for the community to respond. You might also consider contacting the current admins to see what is going on with them and if they are intending to return. I have to say that it is a bit early in your time there to be asking for admin, and very early to be asking to adopt... especially in an active wikia. I recoment talking more to the community and finding out what everyone wants. -- sannse (talk) 07:18, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Again, Thanks Lisa. Yes, I'm still trying to find the new center of power. I'm not worried about getting admin, because I've got two good friends named Lisa and Angela, who I trust very much to see the right thing to do for a particular Wikia.:) --Ermeyers 12:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Forum troubles at the Psychology Wiki
Hi Lisa. This is Jason, one of the administrators over at the Psychology Wiki. Yesterday, I tried setting up a ToK discussion forum. (ToK stands for "Tree of Knowledge." This refers to a psychology paper on the theoretical unification of psychology.) Anyways, the forum isn't working right.
1.) Lifeartist submitted a post here, but
2.) There's no record of it at the Forum Index, and
3.) There's no record of it nor access to it at the ToK discussion forum.
I don't know how to make this work properly. Could you help me out here? You can leave a message on my talk page at the Psychology Wiki. Have good day! Jaywin 23:32, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Desysopping request
Hello Ms. Carter! There's trouble at the RuneScape Wiki and I'm appealing to you for assistance. Recently, one of our administrators User:Shadowdancer has decided to sabotage the Wiki. He has been attacking other users: [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]. He is overprotective of his edits, and does not understand the concept of ownership on a Wiki. Twice has blocked users for "engaging in an edit war" when in fact they were simply adjusting his edits: [10], and [11]. Most recently however he has spuriously blocked several users for "making [him] angry" and "defacing the Wiki as much as [he] can". [12]. All users are tired of his abuse of power, and only minutes after the incident a few users have openly supported a desysopping: [13], [14]. While he has at times been a beneficial contributor, other editors agree that his quick and continual lapses into rage are no longer worth standing. I do have I haven't bored you and hope you will revoke his administrative powers before he chooses to return and destroy once more. Hyenastetalk 00:24, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know Hyenaste, please see the RuneScape Forum for more. ("Ms. Carter"? heh, "sannse" is fine :) -- sannse (talk) 06:45, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sockpuppet check
On SWFanon, I think Darth Xaroggus is a sockpuppet of JheremEBoodle, but I can't prove it. Could you check the IPs? Bub 15:30, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikia and alternatives
Hi Lisa - I attended the Craigslist Foundation Non-profit Boot Camp on Saturday and consulted with three techies on how to improve my Wikia site. Briefly, they don't think Wikia is the best path for me, and suggested other routes. I've posted my notes here and would like to get some feedback from you and other wikifolk. Thanks; Leo|Talk 13:15, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I have a request for a new admin on my Wiki (Final Fantasy)
TacticAngel was nominated to co-admin with me (by myself, I'm already an admin), and he has no objections. I'd like it if you would please come down and admin him. Thanks! Crazyswordsman 03:08, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Done. And I've given you bureaucrat rights now, so you will be able to do this as needed in future. I encourage you to find more admins, more is better than less for a growing wiki. Good to see all you are doing, great work! -- sannse (talk) 06:26, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] user blocked
Hello, could you unblock me on polish_uncyclopedia. I have been blocked because, I promised I'll neve
