Wikia - creating communities
[edit] 1up wiki?
Hi sannse, I just saw this in recent changes and since you created that wiki, I thought you might like to see it. Scottch 22:56, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Scottch, I've fixed the link -- Sannse 17:10, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Can you make only one forum with the name "Forum". And thanx tor the tavicon.
[edit] Flishtsim Wikia
Hello! When http://flightsim.wikia.com/ will be activated? Answer please on request page http://requests.wikia.com/wiki/Flightsims
- Humm, there seems to be a bug there. I thought the wiki was active, but http://en.flightsim.wikia.com/ isn't working. the full URL at http://en.flightsim.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page works fine though. I've asked one of the technical team to have a look. Sorry for the problem -- Sannse 07:48, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- This is fixed now, sorry about that -- Sannse 10:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Jurassic Park Wiki
HI, I have read your comment on the JP wiki. User:Splarka told me if I had enough votes that I could be A beuacrat. The vote has been over for quite some time now and I won. The only two other active user have voded for me. Please make me a beucract. Thank you, Chaosman92 19:37, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. I have to ask, are you reading my replies? That's a genuine question, I have answered this on my talk page and the new admins page, but you don't seem to be hearing me. I'm not sure what else to say here. -- Sannse 07:48, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
That still doesent answer my question. I was promised beucracrship. Chaosman92 14:30, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
How about Vinny and I both be bercracts? I WAS promised that and it is only fair that I get it. Vinny deserves it too. Chaosman92
- What Splarka said was that you should hold a vote and we would implement the results. What I have said is there are no valid results. The only two people who voted were people who you told you would admin if you were elected.
- As well as the concern over the vote, I'm also worried about your ideas about what it means to be a bureaucrat. You seem to see it as some high leader position. All it means if you have the ability to set people as admins.
- And, it seems this is not your only account, and that other account has already lost admin rights on one wiki and has been banned from another. I won't make someone an admin under those circumstances. What I said before (and what Splarka said) doesn't apply now we have this information. -- Sannse 21:14, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Japanese Howto Wiki Title Name Change Request
Hi,concerning the http://ja.howto.wikia.com, I would like to change the presently used site title name:
ウィキテク
Into the following name:
HOWTOウィキ
So, that the resulting namespace of Community portal would also appear like this:
HOWTOウィキ:コミュニティ・ポータル
As well as title of the main page, appear like this:
メインページ - HOWTOウィキ
Thank you in advance :-) Best,
--みんでぃ 09:56, 5 April 2007 (UTC) (AKA Inyuki)
- Thanks Inyuki, I'll ask Angela to make the change -- Sannse 10:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AWB
Hi Lisa, can you grant my username access via AWB? Thanks! —Scott (talk) 17:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Done, but without success. I'll write to the author of the bot to try and get this sorted -- Sannse 21:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you
Hi Sannse. Thank you for making me an administrator at India Wikia. This shall sutrely improve my functionality there :) --Bhadani (talk) 02:39, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- No problem Bhadani -- Sannse 16:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] it is me again
Hi Sannse. It is mladifilozof from konoplja.wikia again. Thanx for helping me about favicon. And for the forum - can you make only one forum with the name "Forum" (not forums). Greetings! --Mladifilozof 16:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Mladifilozof. All forums are called Forum:Something, and I don't think Forum:Forum will look right :) What would be a better second word? (sorry for being slow on this, it's been a busy weekend off-line - sannse 16:25, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Forum:Konoba would be ok. Thanks again:))--Mladifilozof 23:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I've switched it over to that name. Let me know if you find any problems -- Sannse 08:14, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A list to start with

[edit] Poetryslam
I need to resubmit the poetryslam wiki. I'm still dumbfounded that it has been rejected. I cannot stress strongly enough that what we are proposing is completely different than what is happening on the poetry wiki. As far as I can tell, the poetry wiki is mostly for people who want to share their poetry. We won't even be allowing poetry submission on our wiki.
My concern here is that we will get lost if we are part of your poetry wiki. We need our category.
Let me ask you a question. If there was a wiki called games, would you require MMORPG to be a subcategory or would you allow them their own category? If there was a wiki called MMORPG would you force World of Warcraft to be a subcategory?
I ask you to reconsider. If not, are there possibilities for me to resubmit in a different way?
- Oops, I missed this one, but I see that Angela has created the wiki. Hope it goes well! :) -- Sannse 10:37, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Mods Wiki
Yes, Game mods would probably be more appropriate in terms of a name. How do I fix this? Do I simply edit the requests page? Please let me know at [1]
- Hi, I've replied there -- Sannse 10:33, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] JP wiki (I know. Aren't you just getting tired of this?)
I am too. When word got out that someone was stepping up and becoming an admin for the JP wiki, we started to get new contributors. Well, pretty much all of those contributors have left, including Choasman92, all because of lack of improvement. If I want to keep the JP wiki from falling into oblivion, then someone has to be adminisized! And I mean soon! --Vinny2 01:33, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is, I'm getting very little feedback from this community. for example, I explained the situation with Chaosman92 here and heard nothing back about what people thought about that, or what the best solution would be. The last voter seems not to even have noticed the discussion. As for improving the wiki, there is very little you can't do now, and if you need any help with deleting pages or anything, let me know -- Sannse 10:22, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is there is no community. JurassicDreamer, the other user who was promised admin status by Chaosman92, hasn't resurfased in about a month. I know Chaosman92 left after he was told he wouldn't be given admin status. Spartan 1 1 7, the guy who says he started the wiki, made a few edits a couple of weeks back and disappeared. As for everyone else, they drop in, make a few edits, and write something on the New Admins page without even reading the whole discussion. Also, I do need these pages deleted:
- Carnivore dominance duels
- Security
- Carnosaur
- Technology
- Actors
- Mesozoic Island
- Production Staff
- Tyrannosauridae
- Therapod
- If you could do that it would really help me out a lot. --Vinny2 13:23, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

- OK, I've set you as sysop, it seems you are the one who is going to stick around and improve the place :) I've deleted most the the pages you listed, the last two I wasn't sure about - they looked to be useful content, so I left them for you to have another look. [edit] Entourage Wiki
hi there!
My name is mercedes and i recently created a request ffor a new wiki. i understand that you get tons of them, but i am really interested in getting this one off the ground. [edit] Finnish RuneScape wiki
Finnish RuneScape wiki had been dead for like 2 months before i arrived there. I already have the most edits and am wishing to become a sysop to counter vandalism. The problem is, every bureaucrat has left and vandals have noticed this, main page has been vandalised many times and every page in my watchlist is plain vandalism, certain people use very naughty images and add nonsence to popular pages such as blanking main page and replacing it with "'Image about ***' RuneScape=****".
Can u please give me sysop rights? (Username is the same as here.) Katshuma 14:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- It seems there are a few other regular users, although I can see you have done a lot there! I would talk to other users there, and get agreement from them first. Thanks -- Sannse 21:43, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Even temporary adminship would help. Like 1 day so I could delete vandalism. Katshuma 12:38, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- What I suggest is that you translate and add w:c:starter:Template:Delete to the wiki, and then tag any vandalised articles with delete. Then let me know, and I'll come and delete the whole batch. Perhaps this is something you can get others on the wiki involved in. Thanks -- Sannse 14:30, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help! I have followed your instructions and added the template. All articles that should be deleted can be found right here. If you can delete them please do. Katshuma 17:53, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! Katshuma 21:46, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Game Mods Search Template
Hey, I hate to ask anything more of you since you have already helped me so much, but could you make me a Search template, or at least show me how to use one? Thanks,--Bucketruck 00:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by a search template... is there one on another wiki you can show me to explain what you want? An no problem! that's what I'm here for :) -- Sannse 06:56, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- What I mean is in the navigation column on the left of the page there is a search. I was wondering how to make this into a template so you can display it anywhere in the page. Thanks --Bucketruck 13:03, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think what you need is an Inputbox. For example, to get a simple search box you would type:
<inputbox> type=search </inputbox>
- Which would give you:
|
|
- Does that help? -- Sannse 14:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks so much! That was what I wanted! You'll be happy to know I have been both working relentlessly on stylizing and setting up the wiki AND advertising it! Some people I know have started several topics on other message boards to build enthusiasm. I hope it's going to be successful! By the way, when you have got some free time(don't rush yourself!) would you mind making me an icon? Thank you SOOO much!--Bucketruck 22:24, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Does that help? -- Sannse 14:33, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'll try and come up with something :) not sure what would work... -- Sannse 11:39, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the awesome icon!--Bucketruck 19:56, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AWB/MWB
I ran into the Wikia:AWB page and looked into the MWB, noticing that it works with multiple customized Regex rules I am considering replacing my normal actions of Copying page content into RegexBuddy, running multiple replaces using it's slow action (On every character change it redoes the statement, which causes extreme slowness when you blank the expression or have a large amount of target text) and then pasting the finished text back into the edit form with using the MWB. Since I'm prone to making large quantitys of edits with tools like that I was wondering if the abnormal combination of the Bot/Sysop flags is accepted for use on a user made for use with AWB? Or even if the Bot flag is normally given to such a user.
I'm also trying to decide what account to use because I don't really want to run AWB on one of the accounts Pywikipedia runs on, plus the double tags wouldn't usually be placed on those. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 27, 2007 @ 18:54 (UTC)
- It's generally considered a very bad idea to have an admin/bot. Admin actions should not be hidden from recent changes, and there is rarely a need for any bot to perform admin actions - there is just too much risk of damage if something is set up wrong. So I would advise removing the admin flag from any account that has a bot flag. -- Sannse 11:39, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ya... That was understandable with Pywikipedia, and it worked out cause dual-accounts could be used. But with AWB I guess sticking it with a Bot flag would be it. Though, it'll get annoying if I run into any protected pages which need a standardized change. ~Dantman(talk) tricks Apr 28, 2007 @ 12:19 (UTC)
- I think I'll use User:DantmanAWB to do my AWB edits. Should I request a bot flag now on the same wiki which my AnimeBot and GaiaBot accounts have bot status (Gaiapedia, Animepedia, Narutopedia, InuYasha Wiki, Dragon Ball Wiki, and waiting on the Ghost in the Shell Wiki), or should I wait till I find a situation where I'll definately be cluttering the recent changes with edits. Then again, I'm probably going to get into that sometime soon. But then again, I'll probably start using AWB to simplify the task of converting wiki to be WGEP compitable. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 1, 2007 @ 14:20 (UTC)
- It's best to only request the flag when you need it. Personally, I prefer to see a lot of edits on recentchanges, as long as they aren't actively getting in the way for others. So let me know if and when you need the flag -- Sannse 11:19, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, though since it's easier on the effort to work to ask for multiple things at once instead of asking for something at one time, then ask for something else another time, I added botting that user to the normal request of admining me and botting AnimeBot whenever I adopt another wiki, or bring it into the WGEP. Though you can understand why I like botting AnimeBot if you look at the task of adding a wiki to the WGEP, I alone in my own right can edit obsessively enough that my contributions make it hard to see other user's edits. (Although, if the RecentChanges was improved in a better manor than mw:Extension:TransformChanges which also allowed the advanced-rc to work, then perhaps it would be easier to see. Maybe even a user filter would help).
- All I need right now though is to be added to the check page. MWB obviously doesn't let users edit without being on the page. I just don't know if that check page is global, or if I would actually add a check page to each wiki I'm admin on. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 2, 2007 @ 19:51 (UTC)
- Just the one page does it, I've added you :) -- Sannse 20:29, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Using Analytics and Webmaster tools on RPG Wikia
Hi Sannse, I already asked Angela this question by mail a wek ago, but she didn't respond:
Hello Angela,
I would like to use Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools to make some improvements on RPG wikia. I remember there was a thread on [Wikia-l] about Google Analytics and the ID that goes into the Javascript code one every page. Is it possible for me as a bureaucrat of RPG Wikia to use Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools for our subdomain or is that only possible for Wikia employees?
Best regards, Johannes
Maybe you can enlighten me on this - I would be very happy. Please respond by e-mail on my RPG user Page.

[edit] WWW Does Not Work for Wikia
- http://electoralreform.wikia.com (this works)
- http://www.electoralreform.wikia.com (this does not work)
I would not normally worry about this but I want to add this Wikia to AboutUs.org a Wiki for websites and subdomans. I have created the page here and the page name is corect but the large link at the top does not work because AboutUs places a "WWW" in the address automatically.
As Wikia and AboutUs.org are both Wiki projects it would be good to get compatibility.

[edit] A favicon for Wikiality.com
Hello! Could you please help me figure out how to make this favicon work on Wikiality? None of us know how to do it. I uploaded it here, but I don't know what to do next. duh. Just in case, here is the image from which we made the favicon. If you could explain the process we would really appreciate it! (If possible, could you reply on my Wikiality talk page, so the other admins can see, too?) Thanks --thisniss 18:26, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help with the coding. We were able to get the User icon working, but I still haven't managed to get the one working in the URL bar for some reason. We have a user who got one working on another Wikia - hopefully he can get it sorted out for us. Thanks again!! --thisniss 01:27, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- The problem at wikiality is that when the site was imported, it was requested that the site stay the same, including the null article path. This means, that articles have the format domain/Pagename rather than the usual Wikia/Wikipedia domain/wiki/Pagename. This precludes the existence of certain root files and scripts, such as robots.txt, favicon.ico, query.php, and api.php without some ugly hacking (if it is even possible). You might ask Dauno to consider asking the wikia devs to move the article to /wiki/ (with a 404 meta refresh redirect so as not to break links). --Splarka (talk) 06:00, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you both for your help. We feel so much cooler now with our new picsies. Will mention the difficulties to Dauno and see if he can make changes to make things easier. I am in way over my head when it comes to that level of programming, so I admire the hackspertise it took to make it work for us. -- thisniss 20:35, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

All contributions by this user in Absurdopedia wiki are trolling, personal attacks (examples: [2], [3]) and voting on AFD page. Thank you Sannse! If possible, can you made a normal-transparent background logo (with Nintendo in original red)? Just to prevent future changes in main bg :)

[edit] Hi
Hi Sannse, I was looking into getting a job at wikia, and I was just wondering, where should I go or who should I talk to to find out? Thanks,--Zerotrousers22:01, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Zerotrousers. The page to watch is Hiring, that's where any upcoming jobs are posted. I'm not sure what sort of job you are looking for, but the most likely to come up at the moment are probably specific technical positions and community staff who speak languages we don't yet cover. Although I'm not aware of any specific positions coming up other than those already on the page. Hope that helps -- Sannse 08:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, but the Hiring page seems to be used more full time jobs requiring experience in a certain field (Something I don't have.) I was more looking for something part time which simply involved looking after small wiki's.-- 02:34, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- That page lists any upcoming jobs... the last one listed there for the community team was on this version. It's for a Japanese speaker, but the job description gives an idea of what is looked for. As I said, I don't know of any positions coming up, but you could always write to Angela and tell her you are interested in working with us. Mostly though, looking after small wikis is done by volunteers :) -- Sannse 12:59, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

- Sure, I'll give it a go. Probably not until after the weekend now though -- Sannse 13:20, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. Hate to bug you again. But how's the mini IMDb logo going? --Steinninn 18:18, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry things have been a bit hectic :) I've uploaded one that might be OK... it's based on the IMDB logo, but isn't a direct copy... you can see it at: http://images.wikia.com/imdb/images/6/64/Favicon.ico
- If you don't think it will work, let me know and I'll have another try. It may take a day or so to show, tell me if it doesn't turn up and we'll give the servers a kick. -- Sannse 20:36, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal at the Dragon Ball Wiki
The user Prince Zarbon has engaged in large scale vandalism on the Dragon Ball Wiki. I have reverted all the vandalism, deleted vandalism newpages, and merged page histories for some articles which had them split in the past. This user is most likely a user from Wikipedia who has engaged in vandalism there including many Sockpuppets. Because of this and some of that user's comments it is highly likely that that user may engage in cross-wiki vandalism on Wikia and also come back to the DB Wiki with another sockpuppet. I would like to request CheckUser be use on Prince Zarbon on the Dragon Ball Wiki to check for any sockpuppets he may have and any other IP's he may come from to prevent more extreme vandalism there. And I would also like to request Global Blocks on him and his primary IP to prevent cross-wiki vandalism (He did mention something about vandalising another Wikia wiki, but while he did mention the InuYasha Wiki it is unknown what wiki he will actually target). See w:c:dragonball:User talk:Prince Zarbon for a few links and information on the vandalism. Thanks for your help. ~Dantman(talk) tricks May 11, 2007 @ 17:47 (UTC)

Hi! Bookofjude 09:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bot-account
Hey Sannse! I'm editor on Danish Wookieepedia, and discovered some spellingmistakes that was made in all pages. Therefore I want to create a Bot to replace the words correctly. Dantman has helped me with the bot, but he said that I should ask you to give an account Bot status. You can answer on this page. I hope you can help me (: - Bakse 18:13, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Replied on that page ;) -- Sannse 12:45, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your respond! I have created an account for the Bot. The words to be corrected is on 210 pages, so it might be disturbing for some people (: R2-D2 (BOT) is the username called. Do you need the code for the account? - Bakse 17:58, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
I Just thought that it would be smart to put an sysop status, so it could edit all pages, but I will remove it at once (: - Bakse 21:28, 14 May 2007 (UTC) That was kind of a mistake. I can't find out how i can pull the sysop rights back. Hmm.. and I have to study for tomorrows exam :/ I'm gonna see to that tomorrow sorry - Bakse 21:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- All sorted :) -- Sannse 20:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your help Sannse (: I'll contact you if I need further help - Bakse 18:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
It's me again (: Do you know how to set up the bot? I have now tried a couple of days with the help of the instructionpage, but I just don't get it.. I know I'm asking all the time, but I would be very happy if you would help me some more :) - Bakse 23:37, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, that's not something I know anything about. I believe there is a help channel on IRC - try searching on Wikimedia's meta wiki -- Sannse 13:23, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, fair :) I'll ask around to other peoples. But thanks anyway ;) - Bakse 10:56, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] MTG Wiki favicon
I've tried uploading the icon to favicon.ico, doing ctrl+F5, resetting my cache, but the favicon doesn't show up as the one I uploaded (it stays as the default). I've uploaded the one that I want here until this can be sorted out. Thanks! --Skizzerz talk 01:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- They sometimes take a little while to show up, looks like it's there now. If you still don't see it, try clearing your cache and press Ctrl and F5. That should do it. Let me know if you need more help with that -- Sannse 09:34, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Emergency!
I can't log in! Everytime I log in, on the next page I'm automatically logged out! Please help! I tried to create a page on RPG Arena called "Chaos Drikin", but it's under my IP Adress's name. Help! Ike 14:56, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- Do you know how to clear your cookies? if you are using IE, it's under tools > internet options. That will fix it for now, and we are working on a complete fix. Not sure what's happening yet. Sorry for the problem -- Sannse 07:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Favicon
Hi, can you make me a favicon for my wikia? Thanks! --Ham Solo talk to the Ham! "You're all clear, kid!" 01:12, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Ham Solo, I'm away at the moment... I'll be back home in two weeks. But I can have a look then if you can wait -- Sannse 17:08, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Ham. I made a favicon for you and uploaded it, but it didn't seem to take. Perhaps you'll have to upload it, since I'm not an admin on that wikia. ~WestonWyse ! 13:29, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Nice work! I've fixed the transparency, just to make it look good on firefox tabs too :) -- Sannse 17:59, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- What tool do you use for that? Because the one I have seems to ignore transparency all together. ~WestonWyse ! 18:43, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Changes to Nickelodeon
Hi, Sannse. You seem to be the go-to person for a lot of this, so I thought I'd start here. There's been some discussion over on the Nickelodeon Wiki about the lack of an admin taking care of things there. The consensus (from both of us) seems to be that Darth Anxor and I should be made admins, so we can take care of things a bit better. If I should be posting this somewhere else, please just let me know. Either way, thanks for your time. ~WestonWyse ! 13:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, it looks as though Hailey C. Shannon, the current admin, has been active just a few days ago. So it would be best for you to discuss this with her first. Otherwise, I have no objections, looks like you've both been doing good work. So check she has no problem with this, and I will admin you both. Sorry for the slow reply -- Sannse 18:05, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- I messaged her on the 15th about the request for a new admin, along with the founder and any recently active user on the wiki, but she has not responded. I did notice that she made a few edits last week, but she didn't comment on the adminship discussion, nor has she helped with any of the hundreds of articles flagged for deletion (which for me is what started this whole thing in the first place). ~WestonWyse ! 18:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I haven't heard anything in the last week about this, and was wondering where we stood. It's also been over three weeks now since I messaged Hailey about the issues, and still no response from her. If there is anything else we need to do, please just let me know. ~WestonWyse ! 11:33, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- OK, two new admins added. Let me know if you need any help :) -- Sannse 21:37, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. Hopefully, from here, I can put what I've learned adminning tthe L5R Wiki to good use, but I'll certainly give you a shout if we end up over our heads. ~WestonWyse ! 01:12, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] DynamicArticleList on Memory Alpha?
Hello, I always asked myself about how to get article popularity and I have seen a posible mean on wikikto (which is not wikia, I know; but, it uses the Mediawiki soft like MA does). You could find the extension there. Do you know if there is a possibility to implement it on Memory Alpha, before or during the next Mediawiki upgrade to 1.10 version? User:Splarka told me on IRC that it could be achieved by filtering recent changes contents (quoting him: 'hot' won't work(why!?) ; recent discussions: show changes in namespace 1, 3, 5, etc ; recently updated articles: filter recent changes for namespace 0 2 4 6 ; 'new' == Special:Newpages) but I don't know how to tweak that. Argh, help me, please! ;-) --StarTrekMan(Talk | Contribs) 15:24, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- This is something that is part of the new skin, which should be available on Memory Alpha within the next few days. Have a look at the smoke or slate skin on Inside Wikia for a preview -- Sannse 18:09, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Conruyt: If all you wanted from that extension was to list popular pages, it wouldn't do any good on Wikia anyways, as page hits counters are disabled. --Splarka (talk) 07:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Why so? This is a great feature since you can get what is most visited/popular and you can monitor the popularity of which article is going down or up in your 'top x' list (Top 5 is not a high number, there should be a top 10 and a top 100 somewhere, or 500 why not? ;-). Then, you could influence and work out on these indicators to improve the quality of your articles on your wikia wiki. It is just extra information! Besides, what is the reason of disabling the hit rank? Thank you, Sannse for the 'Inside Wikia' pointer. BTW, I wasn't aware of all these new features (including phpbb forums is great, too). I have another request below, sorry. --StarTrekMan(Talk | Contribs) 09:54, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- It's disabled for the same reason it is on Wikipedia :) large wikis have to handle page views in a different way, using caching to reduce the strain on the servers. That means the page view counter simply won't work any more. There are other ways of looking at popular pages, as you can see from the new skin, but this one isn't practical. Sorry. -- Sannse 17:16, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Special:Editcount (still on MA)
A while ago, I tried this code {{#ifexpr:() >= 500 | | and it doesn't work, I get a "Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "" " message because a carrier return char is inserted after the result of Edicount. My tests are there How to tweak that, please? --StarTrekMan(Talk | Contribs) 09:54, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- This is beyond my knowledge of markup I'm afraid. Possibly Splarka or Datrio could help you. -- Sannse 17:17, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Log in problems
Hi Sannse. After a long gap, I am here and I feel happy talking to you : It seems unusual, but I am facing some problems in logging on as discussed with Danny on his talk page: [11]. Perhpas matter is being resolved. I am seeking your help. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 02:36, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Bhadani, good to see you again. This should go away if you clear your cache and cookies. If you use IE, then go to "tools" > "internet options" > "delete cookies" and "delete files". I've also cleared some files server-side, so hopefully this will do it. -- Sannse 19:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AutoWiki Browser move
Hi Sannse, remember this conversation we had a while back? Wikia talk:AutoWikiBrowser#Move? - well, it seemed like you were saying it would be a bad idea to move it. But I just noticed someone moved it [12]... I asked him about it on his talk page, but his userpage says he's just "passing through", so I'm not sure he'll ever see it. Should it be moved back? Scottch 21:03, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- MaxSem is working on AWB, and making sure it works on Wikia (it's a more complete version than the one we were using here), that's why he moved the page. We might have to have one in each position for a while, but I'll ask him about that. Thanks for letting me know -- Sannse 21:19, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- As i just expand on the AWB page, not of a big issue as that is not a default page that MWB looks for or AWB but dont know what MaxSem has in mind for the General check list of Wikia speaking of which he has already coded something with our own wikia project instead of custom (so exiting). --Cizagna (Talk) 01:54, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] AWB update
Sannse just to inform you here, here and here it has been already coded our requests, so we just need to wait for the next version to be compiled and officially release and that the tech team has the .php files here at wikia for a more smooth working of the program --Cizagna (Talk) 04:59, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Cizagna, that's great news :) -- Sannse 10:31, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Botstatus
Hi, sorry to bother you but is it possible to give w:c:stad:Gebruiker:Staatsbot the botstatus? I have already asked Angela but she isn't responding. Now I'm searching after all (active) staffmembers. I hope you will answer quickly. (P.S.: Sorry for my bad English, I'm a Belgian :p ) Geleyns 08:55, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Angela just gave the status. Thanks anyway. Geleyns 09:12, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sub-Category
God this is embarrassing...do you know how to code Sub-Category's?--Bucketruck 15:20, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Simply create a category page and add it to another category, just as you would a page (i.e., ). That will list category A within category B as a sub-category. ~WestonWyse ! 15:35, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Trolls invading Arabic uncyclopedia
Hi Sannse, it is me again, the Arabic section has been invaded lately by one user who uses multiple accounts and It’s only purpose is to vandalize the site, is there a away to check the IP of the following users so I can block it for good.
Saudi , Omar86 , البتراء , محمد سمير السعيد حسانين , مخرب , عمك الشيخ ساطي صب قهوه يا عواد,
متعب , ترول , Ahmed Elzeini , Azdiyy
Thanks Classic 971 22:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I wasn't able to get an IP for most of those names, and those I did varied. Two were AOL, but in different countries. Another was a different large IP. So it looks as though you may have more than one vandal, and will need to keep blocking. I can look again if you have more, but it's best if you ask before you delete all the pages, that makes things easier :) Thanks -- Sannse 09:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] ToonTown Wikia
It's going pretty well, but other ToonTown fansites aren't letting me say anything about the wiki because "it can be edited by anyone". I guess it's a valid concern considering ToonTown is, ahem, tuned towards 7+ year-old kids, but... Well, second problem, Toontown.com's terms of use state I can't use any graphics from their website, so I had to make a logo from screencaps of my toons on my login screen in the game, hehe. (I didn't find any terms of use for Toontown, unless they were hidden somewhere else)
I just talked your ear off, didn't I? :| Oddlyoko talk 19:28, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good! You could also consider a logo that suggests the game - like the name "ToonTown Wiki" in the right sort of text. There are always ways of making something that works. Glad to see you in the IRC channel too :) -- Sannse 19:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Single 24um
Hello, I'm co-founder and administrator at Wiki 24. I'm trying to create a forum for the site, but it doesn't seem to be working. The problem may stem from me circumventing the "Forum:Index" page and just going straight to a single forum. Is it necessary to have an index with multiple forums, or can I set up only one all-purpose forum? Your help would be immensely appreciated! --Proudhug 20:25, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- The problem was you didn't have the proper category matching for the <forum> tag (set to ) and the Forum preload template (set to ). I changed one and it worked for me, but you may want to rearrange them as needed. --Splarka (talk) 03:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wookieepedia server
- I seem to be having problems accessing Wookieepedia at the present moment. IE gives me a "cannot find server" message and aborts the action of loading the page. Is the server down? Is it something to do with my connection? I would log onto IRC, but it's not available to me right now. Thanks. Atarumaster88 Image:Jedi Order.jpg (Talk page) 15:25, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, there seem to me a few errors about, but we aren't sure what it is yet. For most it is quite intermittant or not showing at all. I had a problem for a while with Wookieepedia, but I think that was at my end (it got worse until I changed my connection). We are looking into it, and hopefully whatever it is will be cleared up soon. sorry for the problem! -- Sannse 16:19, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Whatever they were, they only seemed to occur when I loaded the Wookieepedia Main Page. Perhaps some of the scripts used for that are conflicting with the new upgrade? The other pages seem to work well, aside from a slower loading speed than before. Atarumaster88 Image:Jedi Order.jpg (Talk page) 18:22, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- The problem is connected to Internet Explorer, so if you have an alternative browser you can get on that way. One of our tech guys is working on it as we speak, so hopefully he will be able to fine the problem -- Sannse 19:41, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, definitely an IE error, and I'm stuck with no alternate atm :( Thanks for the update. Atarumaster88 Image:Jedi Order.jpg (Talk page) 02:32, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Semantic MediaWiki status
Hi, I hate to bother you, but it seems that the topic here needs your attention. TIA --Lirielle 08:49, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know :) I've replied there -- Sannse 10:12, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright uncertain
Hi Sannse. Could you help me with this [13], please? ― Thailog 22:38, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Thailog. Are the articles he is writing direct copies of those on other sites? or are they just taking information from those places and using them in articles? The latter is just fine (you can't copyright information!). I did a check for some of his phrases, and they seem to be unique. Looks to me like his own work, using several resources for information. -- Sannse 08:17, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- No one owns information, you can always take information from other sites and use it. What is not OK of course, is just copying the text. The best thing to do is explain that to Samuel, and ask him to rewrite any that are not in his own words. Even if a site doesn't say it is copyrighted, it is, unless it specifically says otherwise. Hope that helps -- Sannse 18:21, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Please...
...remove my sysop access for Halopedia. güéߣ¥-πéҐ∫øñ¥-†ħîИg¥ 22:04, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- This is done. But on the understanding that it is by request and can be reversed easily. I really hope we can talk it over soon. Regards -- Sannse 22:10, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Slow Wikia
- Sorry to bother you again, but for some reason all the Wikia seem to be crawling whenever I tried to access them. I first encountered the error about ten minutes ago. Thanks, sannse. Atarumaster88 Image:Jedi Order.jpg (Talk page) 14:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Is this still happening? There were some changes made earlier, and they seem to have drastically improved the load speed for me - especially on Wookieepedia. I'm not hearing similar reports from others yet either ... -- Sannse 17:11, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- It got better about an hour ago. Maybe it was a residual error, but it seems to be working now. Also, I did get the fatal error in IE 6 when I opened my talk page, but it only happened once. Atarumaster88 Image:Jedi Order.jpg (Talk page) 19:01, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] RvB Wiki
Sure, if you think I'm the best candidate. I'll try and find another person for adminship, but I'm not sure there are very many, though I agree with you about having two admins. --Caboose
BTW, I didn't know you were a girl. Cooleo.
- OK, you are set. Let me or one of the other community team members know if you need any help, or if you find that second admin :) -- Sannse 20:46, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Need some help
Hello. I need to discuss something with a "higher" authority. I am up for administrator on Star Wars Fanon Wiki. And I have been opposed by the user Bub. Who consequently is a "retired" admin. Now Bub has opposed me with the reason of "personal attacks." Two admins on Fanon, Squishy Vic and Jack Phoenix have both stated I have never performed a personal attack. I have also made a forum discussing why I am "harsh", and many users have rallied behind me. So, I ask, why should his vote be counted if he won't even be around? Secondly, how can it be counted as an oppose when he basically performed one on the entire web site when he said "Many users here are immature and ignorant, and do not know how wikis are meant to work" - Bub
I am sorry to bother you with such a trivial problem, however, many users respect you, and I was hoping maybe they would listen to you if you backed me up a bit. Also, I have contacted the Main admin on Fanon, but he hasnt replied. I would like his vote possibly voided. A link to the admin elections can be found on the Main page of the Fanon website. My username is the same on the Fanon wiki as it is pretty much everywhere, CurrentBigThing. I have no preference on where you reply, but please do. Thank you for your time.CurrentBigThing
- This is a matter for the community. It's something you are going to have to sort out between you, and between the other users of the wiki. Sorry -- Sannse 21:19, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Miniupload
It appears that the form is still giving the message
All images uploaded are subject to Wikia's GNU Free Documentation License. Do not upload copyrighted images.
instead of the license selector. G.He(Talk!) 01:00, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- We were looking for a good wording for this, I'm not sure what was decided... The licence selector is possibly the best solution, or it may be too complicated for this (it's supposed to be a very simple application). I'll find out more -- sannse

[edit] Adopting The Beatles Wiki
I would like to adopt The Beatles Wiki (http://beatles.wikia.com/). It has already been adopted once, but both owners have seemingly abandoned it. I've been doing work on it for about a week, and I feel it has great potential. It is pretty empty right now, but I feel that if I am promoted to admin, I can make it a good addition to Wikia. Thanks, Marvelcarlos 02:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Looks like you are doing great work there! I've set you as admin and bureaucrat there, let me know if you need any help with the new functions. And good luck! -- sannse
