[edit] Revert spree?

I'm interested in your little revert spree on some of the Runescape wikia pages. I noticed you did revert them back again. Were you testing the revert or did you mistakenly think Hyenaste was a vandal? Amaurice (talk) 12:08, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm similarly interested. The IP threatened tattling for the 3RR Wikipedia has, but I didn't believe staff would come and revert spam back onto my talk page. :D >>Hyenastetalk
I'm really sorry for that. I was looking through some edits and decided to save time with "open all in tabs"... forgetting that some of the links in view were rollback links :-o I did feel rather stupid at that one. Sorry again -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I just wondered if I'd missed something going on. You reverted them back again anyway. So it was just one of those little mistakes that happen, and nothing more sinister. =D Amaurice (talk) 17:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] JP Wiki

I have been on the Jurassic Park Wiki since Febuary and have even posted my Personal pictures from Universal Studios JP section. I have tried to adopt it several times but I was unable to contact the creator. I saw that you made Vinny a sysop. He has only contributed only a month longer than me. Could you please make me a sysop? I will make the site better and keep it nice. Thank you so much.Chaosman92 18:11, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Please contact me on JP Wiki. ThanksChaosman92 18:13, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I explained this to you back in April: "it seems this is not your only account, and that other account has already lost admin rights on one wiki and has been banned from another. I won't make someone an admin under those circumstances." I'm afraid nothing has changed. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 07:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

ok finally i compiled AWB to test the new options and dont seem to work as it should i may report it but i cant still pull any list and i cant find the Query.php and API.php has those been installed? --Cizagna (Talk) 03:38, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Cizagna, yes, they are installed. One is at http://www.wikia.com/api.php - I'm not sure where the other is, but have sent an email to ask the technical team. I'll get back to you as soon as I can on that -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 15:23, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
found it http://www.wikia.com/query.php well then i can report the bugs with less thing they can complain about us hehe

[edit] IRC #desencyclopedie

Hi. Ducon seems not to be around this week, so I'm thanking you myself for adding #desencyclopedie to the http://irc.wikia.com/ page. --PiRK 20:28, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

TOR actually did the adding, but no problem! :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:07, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Admin rights on Birds Wiki

Hi sannse! I was wondering if you or someone else on the Community Team could give me administrator rights on Birds Wiki. It was abandoned by its founder, and I have been the only one editing for a while. (I haven't edited for a couple months, but I was planning on it today. Mainly, I've been the only one editing content on there. I'd like admin rights so that I can get it back up and running and do things that an admin can. Thanks very much! Swannietalk to me 22:44, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Swannie, you are all set there - have fun! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Show/Hide

Hi Sannse. Do you know the css and javascript needed to be able to use the toggle show/hide buttons. If so could you add them to The One Wiki to Rule Them All. Thanks a lot -- KingAragorn  talk  LOTR  email  13:07, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi KingAragorn, I've asked Splarka to help with this. Sorry for the delay, I'm away at the moment -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 06:08, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
The CSS/JS has been added, and if you purge your cache, w:c:lotr:Template:Hidden should start working for you. --Splarka (talk) 23:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New IRC Channels

Hi Sannse! Could you make an IRC channel for Wikihorses and Symbolism Wiki? Thanks. Swannietalk to me 17:58, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Swannie. You can make these yourself, you just need to start a channel by joining it and register it with Freenode. Once you've done that, you can ask us to add the channel to the list allowed by the web-interface. If you need help with setting up the channel, just ask on #wikia. See you there -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 06:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] USERNAME Template on GOW wiki

Hey there Sannse, the USERNAME template on the Gears of war wiki, (link : [1] ) is not working, I have tried several other wikis coding, plus tinkering it on my own. I can't get it to work, I just get the, <insert name here>, so if you can tinker with it and see if you can get it to work, sereral users use it and it is a bit, untidy:P -- Darth tader Stop by 22:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, it looks like you refer to id="insertusername" but don't define that in the site css. You need to look for this in the MediaWiki:Common.css page on the wiki you got the code from, and then add that to http://gearsofwar.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.css If you need some help, then the best place to ask is the Central forums or on IRC... another contributor should be able to give you a hand :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:09, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Password recovery

At RuneScapeWiki, I have a Wikipedian who wants to become active. He created an account, but forgot his password and information and cannot retrieve his account. He has only made one edit, so it wouldn't be a problem, but he wants the same Wikipedia and Wikia account name. The name is RuneScape:User:Poorleno. Hyenaste 22:54, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid that without an email address set, we can't verify that the account is his. He will have to make a small variation in the name and make a new account. Sorry -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:11, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Import Free Images is no longer working

Hi Sannse, can you please forward this to the right contact: Has there been any progress on this technical issue which I reported four weeks ago? We'd really like to continue to use this function in our wiki as it is very valuable for us. Thanks, Spankart 21:01, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I've checked the ticket and it's not been assigned... I'll follow up on Monday when the technical team is in, and find out more. Sorry for the delay -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:52, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Any news? Spankart 10:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
I have asked again, but the technical staff have a lot to do at the moment, and other things are a priority. Some of the smaller bugs that are affecting one wiki and not affecting editing as a whole, just can't be fit in for now. I have talked to the powers that be about this issue, but there doesn't seem to be an easy solution at the moment. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:17, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] KDApedia

Dear sannse, you reloaded our wiki a few months ago to their own wikia at kda.wikia.com The old database is however still online at the scratchpad. Is it possible to somehow automatically delete all articles that are tagged "KDApedia" on scratchpad? Thank you! ~Snils, 12:36, 14 August 2007 (UTC+1)

[edit] Adopt

Hey Sannse, I talked to you about this on IRC regarding the adoption of this wiki which has been abandon by its founder since January 2006 and I would like to adopt it and improve it if its OK with you ..Cheers...--Cometstyles 20:37, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, looks like you have only three edits, and there is an editor who was active just last month with many more. If he/she returns then they have something of a better claim to adoption I would say... So my suggestion is that you edit for a month or two, improve the wiki, and then if there is a community you can decide on admins together. If there isn't one yet, then I'll look again at admining you then. Hope that works for you! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:57, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inactive administrators

At RuneScape Wiki, we have an administrator problem. High admin turnover rate has caused us to amass almost 30 administrators. We are having troubles now getting users to vote for new admins. They cite that our editor/administrator ratio is too high, which is true. As a wiki, we are asking if you could remove the powers from the very inactive users to "thin the herd". One users has also mentioned that these unoccupied administrator accounts are likely targets for vandals. Hyenastetalk 00:51, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for the delay. I think the best solution to this is to write yourself an 'inactive admins" page to show who is still around and who has disappeared. That should make things clearer for your contributors. We are hoping to add something similar in the future, a page listing what admins are currently active. But removing inactive admins from around Wikia would be a massive and time consuming job, so for the moment we prefer not to de-admin simply for inactivity. Sorry -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:14, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Italian IP blocked

Hi, on 27 August, on English Uncyclopedia, a lot of Italian IP addresses have been blocked by "Hinoa", as "(infinite, account creation blocked) (Rangeblock for Italian vandal)". These are the dynamic addresses by the main Italian internet provider, and hence the block affects me and most legitimate Italian users. Can this block be removed?

I'm "laurusnobilis" and "qscgu9-bot" on English Uncyclopedia; write me at "laurusnobilis" on Italian Uncyclopedia.

Hi, there have been a lot of problems from that range, enough to make a block needed for a while. The ranges were checked for other users, and there are few. Your IPs are usually outside that range, so if you just reconnect you should be assigned another IP and be OK to edit. Sorry for the inconvenience, I'm afraid one of your neighbours is making this rather drastic step necessary. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi, in the past, I was using a different internet provider. With the provider that I'm using now (the main Italian one), I'm always blocked. (It seems to to me better to discuss the topic here, hopefully without some people that wrote on my talk page on Italian Uncyclopedia.) Laurusnobilis 08:43, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure what to suggest here, the problem from the vandal is real and persistent. Hinoa had to make a choice on what would be best for the wiki, and cause the least disruption to the fewest people. I'm sorry you were caught up in that. Perhaps you could discuss it with him and see if you can work out a solution -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:37, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Admin Request

Hi Sannse could you make me an admin on the Bourne Wiki because not only are there no active admins there but there are no users full stop and i would like to get it going quickly.--\\Captain KickAssJedi// 16:55, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, the wiki isn't a month old yet, so perhaps the founder just hasn't had time to get going on it. Why don't you mail him and see what's going on with the wiki? The "email this user link" will work if your email is confirmed. In the mean time, edit away! and if he doesn't return in a month or so, we can look again at you adopting. Have fun! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] http://astronomy.wikia.com

Hi, we're seeing some new activity that looks rather promising. One the folks involved has already developed a new logo for the wiki, WikiaAstronomyLogo.png. Unfortunately Joseph doesn't seem to have been around since the middle of June, leaving the wiki without an admin. I was wondering if you could pop the logo in for them. --Kirk 00:21, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kirk, I've uploaded the logo. What about new admins there? Seems a good idea with the increased activity... -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:07, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Right now, I would say that the best candidate would be User:Leesonma. He's not too experienced with wiki's yet, but he is the teacher for the group that has shown up. Apparently they are a group of seniors in Louisiana. You can put me in as a backup if you think it might be a good idea.--Kirk 21:19, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Great, I've given you both access, and left a message for Leesonma. Thanks for letting me know, and for all you do on the wikis! Regards -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:19, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] http://fanon.wikia.com

Hello Sannse. I recently sent an e-mail to the Wikia staff but I am unsure if it was sent, due to computer issues. Here is the exact message, and I ask if you can please take you time to read it. Thank you.

Hello, Wikia staff. I am writing this on my own behalf, for the fanon wiki. I have recently discussed the issues of lack of administration at the Fanon Wiki, since the Bureaucrat/founder, Brain40, abandoned it long ago. Since then, no proper administration has been able to carry out the duties of a sysop, leaving a lot of articles sitting there for deletion and lack of the ability to block vandals.
My sister and I are the ones who discussed these issues. She goes by the user name "Anime Fan" and I by "Squishy Vic", as you may or may not already know. Anyway, I am requesting adminship for the Fanon Wiki to be able to handle the administrative issues appropriately and correctly. I have recently had a lot more interest in expanding my wiki experience. I have been an active member of Star Wars Fanon Wiki, not to be confused with the generic Fanon Wiki I am writing to you about, and I became an administrator in April and a Bureaucrat in June. I am telling you this to show you that I do have the ability to carry out the duties of an administrator. I am also the founder of the "Trapped in the Closet" wiki, which was recently created and I am working on. I also founded the Spanish SWFanon wiki, which is still under a lot of construction as well.
Please fulfill my request, because I wish to contribute a lot to this wiki and expand as I said earlier. I want the chance to get some order around the Fanon Wiki.

Thank you,
Victor

--Victor (talk) 04:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, let's give it a go! Have fun :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:16, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Admin

So, this is where I should say "thank you"? I hope that's what you were getting at. I'm not sure if I deserve Admin status, but I do appreciate it, and I'll figure out what I can do with it ASAP.

Thanks, Sannse. Hope this is what was needed. Paul Goulder

Thanks Paul, yes that was what I needed. The problem is your screen size/resolution. There just isn't enough room for the image, url, and box. It looks like you have an unusually small screen or low resolution? I'm not sure what the best solution is, I suspect you will see this sort of thing quite a bit around the site -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Wiki formulation

I am interested in launching a new wiki that would be targeted to practitioners of the Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) Industry. By some estimates, the prospective user group would be in excess of 400.000. We would propose to use the Convention Industry Council's Accepted Practices Exchange content to develop a taxonomy for the wiki. We expect active participation from practioners within the industry as well as educators and scholars within the various well known hotel, restaurant and hospitality graduate schools.

Questions: 1- is the concept better suited as its own hub or subcategory to "Travel" which seems to be the only relevant existing hub? 2- is there any control that we can exercise over the extent to which and nature of advertising that is run over the wiki? 3- is there paid hosting available with in the Wikia complex? Thanks in advance for your kind attention.

Hi. I think travel will be the best hub, but the wiki could also be in other categories such as Category:Events and meetings.
The advertising is Wikia's area, but we are able to listen to any problems you have with the ads, and remove those that are a problem for a community (for example, we block 'gold' selling sites on some game wikis)
We don't currently have paid hosting packages within Wikia, sorry.
Hope that's helped! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:47, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scanner

Hi Sannse, is your scanner still not fixed? Don't mean to sound pushy... Thanks, --H*bad (talk) 23:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi H*bad. The scanner is still broken, and worse, I'm in the US and the autograph is in the UK! But I think Jimbo is going to be in the office sometime next week, so I can try again and use the office scanner this time. I'm sorry this is so awkward!

[edit] Monobook skin

Hi Sannse, my wiki, it seems, is viewed by default in the new skin tone. I was wondering if there was a way to make simcity.wikia.com in the the monotone (or classic) skin tone by default, and let people go into the new one if they want? I really think the monotone look is more appropriate for the wiki layout and will attract more visitors (whom may not realize they can easily switch to the monotone skin & leave it once an account is made). Or if perhaps I could make a note like "best when viewed in monotone skin, click here" notice at the top of the mainpage that only certain visitors (people who are using the new skin tone) will see? Thanks for any designing help! Jelx 17:43, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Jelx. Wikia as a whole is switching to the new skin as a default (except for Uncyclopedia, which is a parody and so needs to look like Wikipedia). What we hope is that this will give a consistent look, with customisations for each wiki, and allow us to offer new features like the widgets. We don't want admins to switch back to monobook and take away the newbie friendly look and new features, although they can choose their own view of course. But the new skin is going to offer a lot of choices. The next version (out soon) has five colour variations, plus a version to customise yourself. Have a look at Wookieepedia to see the sort of thing that can be done. So I hope you will bear with us, and see what comes with the next release. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:22, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Wiki Formulation 2

As we are considering launching a wiki targetted to a global community of prospective users, we are struggling with the question as to whether there is merit in launching it with the Wikia community in the hopes of finding a more robust adhoc development community with which to exchange ideas and solutions. I'm interested to know what happens at such time that we should determine that we want to migrate to an independently hosted site. We are committed to mediawiki and would in all likelihood migrate to a hosted solution. What is the procedure with respect to deleting the content in the wiki that was created (hypothetically) at Wikia?

All content on Wikia is licensed under a free licence (generally the GFDL). This means that any community that wishes to move off Wikia can do so, taking a copy of the content with them. We provide regular database dumps of the content for backups and copies. However, if a community moves we generally do not close the wiki. The content can stay and be a starting point for any other contributors who want to take up that subject and start a new community around it. So it's clearer to say that we allow any community to 'fork' the content, rather than to move it. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Block-avoiding vandal (?)

Over at [2], a vandal has somehow gotten around a block. Please, I need help ensuring that this person is 'actually' banned. My abilities as admin don't seem to be doing the job, and I'm unsure as to where else to turn. Blue Rook 01:24, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

The vandal's contribs are here, [3], and he definitely has some crack to avoid my sysop ban/block. Please check the "Latest Intel" recent changes page to confirm that he keeps re-creating his user page after we delete it. Shouldn't that be totally impossible? Blue Rook 14:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Banned users can edit their own talk page, so that they can communicate with admins to discuss the block. If that becomes a problem then the page can be protected (which I've done in this case). If it becomes a bigger problem, then we can turn that access off :) But generally, it's a useful way of allowing communication. Let me know if there is still a problem. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:08, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I had absolutely no idea that could happen, but upon hearing your explanation, it definitely makes sense. (I really should have known.) Being ignorant of that, I was just freaking out that the old Pelican crap vandal had targeted our little wiki and my hands were tied. I really appreciate the help, Sannse! Hi, the stuff on Inside is being written ready for the release of that new skin chooser. I hope it's going to be out very soon. In the mean time, I would suggest waiting, and I'll be glad to give you some help with choosing a skin or making your own with the "custom" option as soon as it's on :) You have come along right in the middle of the changeover I'm afraid! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:28, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok. I know how to do CSS but how do you do it on your Wiki? Is that the quarts custom thing? --Bucketruck 01:39, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok. I figured out how to customize it. I went into http://gamemods.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Monobook.css

and added code but it didn't change. Help?--Bucketruck 02:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

You need to match the name of the css page with the name of the skin on your wiki. See http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Quartzslate.css for an extreme example of this sort of customisation. When the skin chooser comes on line, the it will be Mediawiki:Quartzcustom.css for the editable version. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:29, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] How to edit links next to logo?

Hi - I know that you can add four links to the top of the page, next to the default four links to the right of the logo, but can you edit those default links? To be clear, I'm not just wanting to edit the text, but also the page the text links to. Someone in live help insisted that the answer is to make changes to the relevant section of allmessages, but I can't find anything in there when I search for the text of the default links - at least, no instances of that text which are in the form of a link. Any ideas? Please could you answer on my talk page, thanks. Derrick Farnell 11:40, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Someone else in live chat told me that this area of the interface is a 'wikia area', like the links at the bottom of the page. Are you able to edit those links for me? While I can of course understand why we are not able to edit the links at the bottom, it seems a bit odd that we can't edit the links at the top, given that they are, unlike the links at the bottom, part of the wiki. Derrick Farnell 07:17, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Hi, The four links are currently fixed. I'm not sure they will stay that way, but the idea was to ensure that newbies could find four important pages whichever wiki they were on. But you can add four more links alongside that. See http://inside.wikia.com/wiki/Quartz_Skin_Customization#Add_Custom_Links_to_the_Top_Nav for how to do this -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:36, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Table Backgrounds

I'm the Admin of Wiki NASCAR and have been working with some of those cool templates from Wikipedia that can show or hide their contents. I transferred the technology to some of my pages as a Beta and it's working wonderfully.

My question is what lines can I insert to change the overall background color of the table. For example, if you go to the 2006 Emerson Radio 250 page, and click on "Show" for the Results, the overall background color is still gray, which I don't much like at all. I want the whole background to be white.

Could you pull your heads together to help me with this. Much appreciated --DaNASCAT 13:48, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not so good at this sort js. and for some reason can't even see the table correctly. I think your best bet is to either ask other contributors in the forums, or ask Splarka... he's good with js. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 16:47, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Depends on what you want to do and how you want it to do, if you just want that hide thing then do this
Substitute:
<div class="NavContent" style="font-size: 90%">
for this in the desired table that way you will assign the content the white bacground:
<div class="NavContent" style="font-size: 90%;background:White;">
Tip:
<div class="NavFrame" will affect the full box. and <div class="NavHead" will affect only the header
Note:
remember that tables are sometimes independent from the div boxes so you may have to add there also the background if you want everything to match.
Now if you want something more permanent then review what you did by checking [this page] where there are instructions of installation for dynamic navigation, also you will add css on the MediaWiki:Common.css file where things will be more permant
--Cizagna (Talk) 16:58, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion for instructions

Hi - I'm in the process of setting-up a new wiki and uploaded the logo with the filename wiki_wide.png. However, I've just noticed that when I view my wiki using the monobook template, I don't see my logo. I fixed this my uploading a square version of my logo with the filename wiki.png. Perhaps I missed it, but I don't think it states in the instructions for setting-up a new wiki that you need to upload two versions of the logo. If I'm right, then I think this should be added - I get the impression that a lot of the people who registered before the new template came out still have their preference set to monobook. Please reply on my talk page, thanks. Best :— Derrick Farnell (talk) 19:56, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ACG Wiki

Afker has been poking me repeatedly to solve the problem of confusion between ACG and Animepedia policies by moving Wikia ACG Polices to a more identifiably separate location. I'm also starting to think that things might not hold out to well for much longer if the project doesn't make the move sooner instead of later.

As shown at the Wikia ACG page, there are already 11 wiki in the project. And also the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki is now joining. Which basically now means that a wiki larger than the rest of the project together is joining. Not to mention that having lots of anime stuff in the ACG section of the sidebar doesn't work out to well on the wiki like AliceSoft or even Yu-Gi-Oh! Which have a large gaming area. So me and Afker thought of instead of having the 4 top-level media wiki in the sidebar with lists, just have the link to the main ACG wiki and it's Forum/IRC/Mailinglist and let people find the rest of the project from there.

So if we could, having the wiki created now would be good. Mostly it would be used for:

Wikia ACG Stuff
  • Policy pages
  • The actual project page
  • Project terminology
  • Help pages for things like the ACG Worlds, Tech pages, and other things used on the top-level wiki.
  • Templates and code which is shared out everywhere.
ACG Stuff
  • Definitions on things like Anime, Manga, etc...
  • Genre pages and information on common aspects in Animanga styling and Cartoon-Comic styling.
  • Company pages for the companies making the series.
  • Pages for the Authors and Voice Actors
  • Lists and indexes for worlds and series linking to the other wiki. (ie: Naruto would link out to Animepedia for anime information, Manga information on the wikia about manga when in the project, and also the Narutopedia for detailed information)

Basically it was always planned as a central resource.

The plan is to use this for the wiki's info:

Name (url): ACG (http://acg.wikia.com)
Project namespace/Sitename: Wikia ACG:
Wiki language: en (English)
Interwiki: [[ACG:...]]] (I explained it before but it is a bit technical, there is an extension being worked on to allow for much easier linking all over wikia, but that generalized linking needs an interwiki in the map to work, w:c:... won't work for that system; But I can handle the link itself)

And the Wiki's info page would be at ACG with a redirect from acg.

When it is created, could I have the Mailing list password so I can set that up. I'll half to wait for forums though... ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Sep 25, 2007 @ 23:14 (UTC)

I think a good space for organising the project would be the projects wikia. That's available for any project, and it will be easy to organise the test. For the other part, the detailed content, I feel this is a split of existing wikis (with some other content thrown in). This is really a combination of the Anime and Manga wikis, plus a bit of content common to both and other wikis. So why not explore the idea of a merge of Anime and Manga instead? I think that would be more viable than another wiki, and the name could be made more generic and less obscure than ACG too. http:animanga.wikia.com/ "Anima & Manga wiki"? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:21, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Organizing how? It's not really a combination of just Anime and Manga. It's for things common to everything in the project; Anime, Manga, Cartoons, Comics, etc...
You'd have to merge all of them together if you were to merge things but they all don't fit that way, there are things common to them but you can't put them all together in all cases. And even if you decided to merge into a Anime and Manga wiki, and a Cartoons and Comics wiki then the project still does not have a central wiki. The project is using the Animepedia for that purpose at the moment because the people wanting to do Manga, Cartoons, and Comics haven't poked and said anything yet. But the wiki can't be used that way for all the phases of the project, once the project moves up a phase where there are two or more top-level wiki then none of them can identifiably be the central area of the project (I doubt a cartoons wiki would like being 2nd generation in a tree with anime as the 1st generation) and without a central area there is no place to put the stuff that all the areas share.
The project's reasons for existing are: Navigation (Making it easy for people to navigate from a focused wiki to a general one and find another similar focused wiki they want to go to), Not repeating the same things (Instead of having every wiki define what Anime is or what a Cartoon is, define it in a central location where everyone from all the projects can work on it together), and globally shared things (Many templates and various scripts are done over and over in these kind of wiki, and it takes time to come up with them and may never be done as well as it's done elsewhere; So instead we put all of that in a central location common to all the wiki, and share it out to all the other wiki and let everyone work on it together so they don't half to repeat all the work). ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Oct 4, 2007 @ 19:17 (UTC)
I think by "Organizational" it means the "Wikia ACG" stuff, put those on projects.wikia. Then the "ACG" stuff will go on "animanga.wikia". -Afker 04:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, things to organise the project can go on projects. I don't see a need for a wiki for "anime, manga, cartoons, and comics", that doesn't feel like a good topic for a wiki. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:10, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Ya, a combined wiki on all of them isn't needed. But defining Anime, Manga, Sci-fi, etc... In 2 or 4 different places is redundant. Which is why the point of the wiki is not to be a combination of all the wiki, but to be a place to put things common to the various wiki. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Oct 6, 2007 @ 02:37 (UTC)

Also, as I noted the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki is joining. TwoTailedFox already gave AnimeBotSys the Sysop powers, but AnimeBot needs the Bot flag. ^_^ Otherwise the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki's Recent Changes page will look like swiss cheese. Since it's a large community and you'll probably want confirmation. w:c:yugioh:Yu-Gi-Oh!:Community Portal#Wikia ACG. It's been up there for an entire week, TwoTailedFox put a note on the Main Page and made notes on a bunch of people's talk pages, and I put it in the Sitenotice. TwoTailedFox (the founder) is ok with it and as seen there knows about it, and the two active admins who come into the wiki's IRC are ok. No-ones posted objection, and the only person confused had more explanation given to him off page.

^_^ plus even if someone notes concern on the page before the joining happens, I'm still helping them improve their own templates which will require a good deal of bot work to fix things. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Sep 25, 2007 @ 23:14 (UTC)

[edit] Language change

Hi! :) Is it possible to change the language of a Wiki without recreating it from scratch? I just noticed my project was in the English section. I'd like it to be in French! Thank you :) --Sebleblanc 04:12, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh I forgot! The name of the project is [eduquebec.wikia.com EduQuébec]. Thanks! Have a nice day. --Sebleblanc 04:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] pvx builds bugged?

I think something is bugged with the Pvx builds when you download them. Before whenever you would download a build they each had their own name. I just downloaded a few builds and they were all named {art_name} If you try to download any other build it will not matter all of them have the same name. I know it did not used to be like this before, so if you try to download a second build a message will pop up saying this file already exists, and asks to replace. (even though it is a different file, has same name)

PvX Wiki is not affiliated with GuildWiki or Wikia. -Afker 22:25, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

I see, thank you. Where are the PvX admins though? Can anyone tell me where i can contact them or give a link, please? Or perhaps this can be forwarded move this to them?

There is a list of them at http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Special:Listusers/sysop - you will have to look at contributions to see which are active though (or try the admin notice board, linked in the sidebar) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:35, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Clicking their names will take you to their user pages. From there you can find their talk pages (like this one) and links to their contributions (to see if they are currently active). The "sidebar" is the list of links in boxes along the side of each page on the wiki. One of the links there is to the "admin noticeboard". That looks like a good option to contact the admins there -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bots in IRC

Can we get some semi-formal rule about bots being brought into #wikia. Users keep bringing in bots like PinkyBot and [NewsBot] without any consensus to bring them in, then the bot gets kicked out and auto returns, making the person work on a long block to only block the bot without blocking a user. Then after that a big debate starts about whether bots belong in #wikia. Users against it note the dislike of bots by some staff and that consensus should decide if it is ok for a bot to be inside of #wikia. Then those few who want the bot go and say that the other 40 or so users don't have an issue with it, when 90% of those users are formally away, lurking, or a double user and aren't responding on how they may not like it because they are not at the computer.

All these bots coming in with no valid reason or pre-consensus is getting annoying. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 4, 2007 @ 21:03 (UTC)

I agree, bots are really not needed in that channel. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship not working

Thank you for changing my status form from (none) to sysop, bureaucrat but sadly it hasn't worked. When you typed my username there was a space in between the User: and the name Bioevil087. You can check here [[4]] and you will see what I mean. Please fix it as soon as possible. Thank You very much. Bioevil087 02:24, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Now there's a strange error... it shouldn't allow me to change rights if the username isn't correct... Anyway, it's fixed now, you may need to log out and in again to see the change. Sorry for the problem -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 02:56, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Can you fix this one too please sannse? w:c:engineering:Special:Log/rights. I left a message for Catherine but she might not have noticed it. Thanks. -- Manticore Talk | Contributions 03:00, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Board 8 Wiki

Hello Sannse, would it be possible for you to edit the localsettings.php for my wiki, http://board8.wikia.com/ so that only registered users are able to edit pages? We've had some problems with vandalism here and there, but mainly we just want it so people stop being lazy and get an account for the sake of the other benefits. Picking a skin, contrib listings, all that stuff. Thanks! --Ngamer 23:11, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, why not just tell them about those benefits? I don't see much activity on talk pages, or any welcoming of new contributors to the wiki... those are both things that will encourage people to stick around and log in. I see you also tend to protect rather than block IPs that vandalise, I think a combination of these is best... a short ban can be a great way of communicating that behaviour is not acceptable, especially when combined with a message. Traditionally we have said that Wikia wikis should be open for all to edit - including anonymous users. We've experimented with allowing a few wikis to do this differently, but it's still no clear what effects it has. It's something we are discussing. So for now, I'd suggest trying these other methods, and seeing how you get on -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 01:37, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot for your help with the vandalism rollback in my wiki, Sannse. Together we did it really quick. --Spankart 18:52, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki Duties, and the Adoption

That info you were interested in is at User:Dantman/Wiki Duties.

As for that adoption. A user that's been working on the Animepedia wants to adopt the Sailor Moon Wiki and put it into Wikia ACG.

To make the list of things for you to do quite small and easy. Just 2 flag changes.

  • Add Bureaucrat to me on the wiki. (I already have Sysop so that's one less flag for you to give)
  • Add Bot to User:AnimeBot on the wiki.

I'll take care of her promotion and the promotion of the Sysop bot (Needed for some of the work in adding a wiki to Wikia ACG). ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 13, 2007 @ 05:10 (UTC)

Thanks for the link, I'll have a close read of that :)
If the user is going to adopt Sailor Moon, then it makes more sense for me to make her the bureaucrat. What's her nick? Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:53, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Well ok. I was going to give her bureaucrat to (Kinda normal in Wikia ACG wiki for me and for the wiki's founder to both have bureaucrat. The idea is that bureaucrat allows me to promote users who become sysops on Wikia ACG scale. [Basically for helping keep things related to Wikia ACG in sync]). But you'll need to do more flags then since I won't be able to add the others myself.
The bot set needs a bot account, and a sysop account because there are common occasions where the bot needs to edit a protected page when setting things up. (Most of the time, It's when I'm doing a lot of the simple additions like ACG to MediaWiki:Acg, or other things that are needed so that sidebar or other minor things are added. I use a small batchcmd script because doing this stuff on it's own is tedious.) ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 13, 2007 @ 22:27 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, I've set Katie's rights, and the bot on AnimeBot. Katie can set any other rights she feels necessary now. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 08:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lookupcontribs

^_^ I have people poking me to get lookupcontribs. Everyone from Jack to Manticore has it. I originally was going to wait till more janitors showed up and came my way. But since it looks like that's going slow, I'll just request the lookupcontribs flag that people are poking me to get. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 18, 2007 @ 04:33 (UTC)

I think this is something we need to talk about directly. Let's get together on IRC when we both have time to talk. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:21, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Staff, Helpers, and Janitors

Hey, sannse. I saw the new page Wikia:Helpers. And I'm starting to get confused. What's the difference between a Staff, a Helper, and a Janitor. Primarily what's different between a Helper and a Janitor. But the difference between a Helper and a Staff is also a bit confusing. I suppose some people may also be confused on the purpose of the different flags and requirements of each individual group. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 19, 2007 @ 02:45 (UTC)

From what I understand, Helpers are interns or contractors working for Wikia, so they are in some way officially tied to the company. I'm not sure if the interns are paid, but I know the contractors are. Janitors, on the other hand, are volunteers and have no official ties to Wikia. The line between Staff and Helpers is a little blurry, but I think users with a staff flag (and not all employees do have them, IIRC) work full-time for Wikia. -- Manticore Talk | Contributions 04:29, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
It lists Volunteers as Helpers to. But Janitors are volunteers to. Also, what kind of access differences are there in the different flags? ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 19, 2007 @ 04:44 (UTC)
Manticore has it...
Janitors are contributor-helpers who work as general assistants to the community, especially in helping control spam and vandalism. They have admin rights on all Wikia, plus some specific rights for anti-spam work, such as lookupcontribs.
Helpers are generally contractors or interns working with Wikia. Sometimes they may be volunteers who are helping with specific tasks on the wikis. Helpers have admin rights on all Wikia, and may have specific rights set if they are needed for the job they are doing - for example, they may have some access for technical work if they are working with the Technical Team.
Staff are employed by Wikia, or long-term contractors working outside the US/Poland (it's more complicated to be 'employed' where Wikia doesn't have an office). Staff have admin and bureaucrat rights on all Wikia wikis, plus many other tools including Checkuser and access to some MediaWiki settings. Not all those employed by Wikia have need of this access, so they are still "staff", but don't have the staff rights flag set.
In all cases, these groups are told to respect the rights of the local communities, and to be there to help and advise not to 'take over'. Staff may have to take on a wider role where there are serious problems on a wiki, and some Janitors and Helpers also have local roles (Helpers are sometimes asked to found a new wiki on a specific subject we are missing) but their Wikia-wide roles are to work with local admins and to try and make everything on Wiki run that bit more smoothly!
I hope that's answered all your questions -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Googlemaps extension for Genealogy.

Hi. I am a sysop for Genealogy wikia, and our community is very interested in having the googlemaps extension installed. (It is handy for plotting where old settlements were and so on.) Thanks very much for any help you can render.

Secondly, we need an additional extension allowed for uploads (.ged). These are text files but in a format used by about every genealogy program on the face of the earth. It would be great if contributors could upload them as .ged's. Some are voluminous >500K, so it is not practical to store them on wiki pages with <pre>. ~ Phlox 21:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I can get the GoogleMaps extension working tomorrow. I'll also put in a request for the technical team to look at allowing the file type, they have to check that it's something that will have security problems. I'll get back to you on that one as soon as I can :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:23, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
That is just Grand of you! No big hurry on the .ged's If techs have never heard of it-> wikipedia:GEDCOM. It is simple text and can be easily validated by sniff testing for legal fields found in the GEDCOM article. An example files may be downloaded from [5] (center banner blue text- dowload gedcom). Warm regards ~ Phlox 07:59, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi, forgot to update... GoogleMaps is on, and the file type is in the technical team's queue to assess. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:48, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I was watching for it and saw it as soon as it came online. Thanks again. I expect the .ged file type evaluation will take a while. It would be great if you could notify me on my talk page when a determination has been made, because I'm diving into some technical junk and probably won't notice. ~ Phlox 17:26, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikia ACG Organization

Sannse, rather than constricting the pie how about some organization of that organization.

Yes, yes... My brain moves to fast, It hasn't even been long enough for me to get to sleep since we discussed things. And Wikia ACG already has a series of revamps of various things.

I suppose it looked like it but Wikia ACG never was staticly my project. Afker is actually a bit of a right hand man and I let him deal with most Gaming related stuff. As well he's great at being the second side needed to make a good guide/policy something that people can actually understand and be comfortable with. I'm also trying to get Katie5000 to help out with some feedback so that I can fix up some of the guides and remove the older ones that are being replaced.

I'd actually like to consider a bit of a freeze on external expansion. And do a bit more on internal expansion and experimenting with various styles to see how they work out in different circumstances. Though I'd also like to fix up the wiki that ended up in a bit of a transition flux. I'll give some updates and information on the various Wikia ACG wiki, Flux wiki, and related wiki.

Actually I introduced some new things to make things a little frendlier and easier to use. ^_^ This time around all I'm getting is nice from Afker instead of a lot of tweaks reversing a number of stuff, so something must be going right. jamie_hari was setting up a spot for me to work on some extensions. I hope even without extra access or anything we can get some techical things installed. Because there were two main things I was hoping to make and get installed. One of them was centered around making things easier for newbies and editors in general. And the other was centered around making the project less dependant on bots that are run on only accounts that I can log into.

Animepedia
[Part of ACG. All of ACG stuff is setup.]
Katie5000 has been working on a lot of articles on the wiki and it's actually starting to pick up as a wiki instead of just a development ground.
We might add the old "Ignore all rules" and other stuff to the page to help newbies feel more comfortable later on. Though actually, at the moment the big focus is actually making it easier for new users to edit without running into the issues with article titles that normally are the reason that users don't edit. I've added a bit of an inputbox to the world page subst template (Used to create the world pages easily) to make it easier for people to create an article in the world without getting confused by prefixes.
We'll be doing a little less deletion than before. If someone comes in with a article at a bad name, or bad WP copy. We'll move it to the right place and fix it up. If they create a stub that would of course be in the way of an actual article we'll create the WP base and put their stub as a subpage to be merged so that what they contributed will never actually disappear. And on either type we're going to come up with a nice welcome message that tells the user that their contribution is still on the wiki and show them where it was moved to.
Going along with what Afker mentioned before we're going to combine the pages on User levels into one to make it less of a intimidating set of links in the index bar. Also the wiki like Narutopedia that customize levels names, we'll help relate them to the actual flags a bit more.
Narutopedia
[Part of ACG. All of ACG stuff is setup.]
There isn't really much to say here. As I've said, the Narutopedia has become mostly autonomous and is probably the biggest succest of the project.
Marpedia
[Part of ACG. Most of ACG stuff is setup.]
90% of the Wikipedia articles have already been copied with that Move&Merge method. So since it's already progressed like that we'll probably use that as a test-case to see how that does for starting a new wiki.
InuYasha
[Part of ACG since beginning. Only half of ACG stuff is setup.]
The wiki is filled with articles that are so old, outdated, riddled with GFDL violations, and disorganized that they are mostly worthless. (Whopper would agree with this). We had a similar situation on the Animepedia and ended up deleting everything and going "Clean Slate". But I think this time istead of trying that. We could use this as a test-case for seeing how well that Move&Merge method of Wikipedia copying works for reviving an outdated and disorganized old wiki. Since he's interested I'll probably leave the wiki to Whopper after it picks up.
AliceSoftWiki
[Part of ACG. Most of ACG stuff is setup.]
Afker has been administrating it for along time so it's fine with him.
Ghost in the Shell Wiki
Unfortunately this is one of those big abandonings that is common for Animanga wiki. The founder joined Wikia ACG but content never got on the wiki, no comunity started, and the founder left without trying anything. I wish I could find a community to take it on though.
Dragon Ball Wiki
[Part of ACG. Most of ACG stuff is setup.]
It looks like Burdock has come back, so the wiki should be easier to manage. We've also started a bit of a re-discussion on the naming scheme since the old standard has gotten a little chaotic.
Gundam Wiki
[Part of ACG. No clue on what ACG stuff is setup.]
ValiantHeart is handling the Gundam Wiki.
Bleach Wiki
[Part of ACG. Only half of ACG stuff is setup.]
TheUltimate3 was the one to found the wiki but it hasn't picked up much, but there are potential contributors there. I'm going to show TheUltimate3 the ins and outs of good Wikipedia articles and how reformatting works.
Beyblade Wiki
[Part of ACG. Only half of ACG stuff is setup.]
The user who founded the wiki wanted to be part of Wikia ACG because of the Dragon Ball Wiki. Though it appears as if he's since abandoned the wiki. Personally I'd let the wiki go, but it's got Wikia ACG stuff on it. I personally don't consider it kind to leave a wiki in dissaray without support.
GaoGaiGar-Betterman Wiki
[Part of ACG. Only half of ACG stuff is setup.]
Kuukai2 founded the wiki and is working on it. Though I need to help setup the Wikia ACG stuff over there. And since it's the first dark content skined wiki I'm going to need to build a dark mod for the box-class system.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki
[In flux.]
The Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki is asking for the technical help of the project. There are no real issues so, since I don't want them to be left alone when they're asking for help when the discussion is complete it would be good to let them in even with the freeze.
Sailor Moon Wiki
[Part of ACG. No ACG stuff is setup.]
Katie5000 adopted the wiki. I need to do full setup on it as well as partial setup on a number of other wiki I never finished that on. (Wiki were coming in from so many corners I paused to do it all at once).
Full Metal Alchemist Wiki
[In flux.]
The FMA Wiki was actually working on joining Wikia ACG. In fact it says on the Main Page that it is part of Wikia ACG even though it isn't recognized as such. I've notified the community of that and we'll see what they say.
MMKB (Mega Man Knowledge Base)
[In flux.]
The MMKB has had discussion for a long time. They're actually using parts of Wikia ACG as a trial. They look content with joining with the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki's plans, but I guess I'll leave them they way they are for now.
Eureka seveN Wiki
[Not Part of ACG.]
Personally Eureka seveN is actually my favourite series, I'd like to put content on it, but I guess I'll hold off for now. Though it looks like it's another case of request and abandon. That's actually what happends to 90% of the Animanga wiki that get created on Wikia.

Phew! now that is one overpowering message! I'm not even sure what to reply to this. I can certainly imaging a newbie getting a message like this, and being totally lost! I know you are doing all you can to improve Wikia, I'm just worried that your long and complicated tone comes across and unfriendly, unwelcoming, and scary! (and I have to say, I feel the same way about your <NOTASTAFF>. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:33, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry. Nah I'm not giving messages like this to newbies. Actually, I changed some of the detailed information pages. There were some important bits of information there I couldn't really erase. But I did make it a bit easier, pages like Jump start from Wikipedia have a Summary box up top that basically summarizes everything in a line or two that any newbie can understand. Sorry about the NOTASTAFF, it's just I've had to many people thinking that I was a staff member in the past. It was fine when it was new users, but when old users started confusing me with staff members I added that to my signature. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 21, 2007 @ 23:07 (UTC)
Not sure what the confusion would be... <staff /> or Special:Listusers would be pretty sufficient evidence to the contrary, methinks. --CharitwoTalk 23:11, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, I can think of one common case. I pay attention to the inside forums, mailing list, central forums, and inside a lot, among also communicating with the techs at times. And with my other technical knowledge I often get into the discussions in places such as here where users are asking for information on some of the technical stuff. Something like what the status of an extension was, or if an extension could be installed, etc... But with the technical tone (And the technical tone does fit as something good to use in those cases unlike with newbie cases) I sometimes get confused with a staff or tech who works for Wikia, when I'm merely someone who knows about these things a bit in advance by following what Wikia is doing with the technical side, and also using my own technical knowledge to provide information on things like why an extension or feature would never be installed on Wikia. (ie: Why it's to unsafe for use on Wikia)
^_^ Sorry, to much text again... (Though I have at least noted to cut out portions of my message when talking to new users). But at any rate, I'm thinking of a better signature to use. Instead of NOTASTAFF, I'll probably find a good bit of text that doesn't say I'm not something, but says what I am. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 23, 2007 @ 03:19 (UTC)

[edit] widget stuff from irc

1) on Special:WidgetDashboard, the skin link needs reformatted its not useskin=quartzslate any more, its useskin=quartz&usetheme=slate

2) on Special:WidgetDashboard, "Please change your preferences to use this tool in all its glory." doesnt really tell you what your supposed to change in your prefs, i assume it means change your skin

4) the "stale pages" widget seems to leak. its fine when i first drag it on to the dashboard panel, but when i reload the page, its dumping the raw text from Special:Ancientpages as text above it, THEN also draws the widget below it.

5) docs on where the tips widget gets its stuff, and what format it needs to be in.

6) the "manage widgets" menu, when opened from the top drop menu, when attempting to "scroll" to the right to see more, will "snap" back to the left/start of the list (this was on w:c:eq2, but its seems to not do it here on central, dont know if it was my machine. i'll do some probing, if it keeps up, or if i can track it down, i'll let you know to poke a tech)

7) the last "Who's Online" widget needs an icon.

Thanks Uberfuzzy, that's great. I'll get all that straight to the technical team. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:34, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

I've looked everywhere and consulted numerous people, but I can't seem to get rid of the table of contents. I've even looked on the various help guides here but no luck. --{{SUBST:nosubst|User:testostereich/sig}} 17:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

hi, you actually templated your __NOTOC__ which is why it wasn't working so I tinkered with it and it should work now..Cometstyles 18:21, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Cometstyles! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:34, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Yu-Gi-Oh Wiki Channel

Hello sannse, mind adding another channel to the IRC Gateway? (#yu-gi-oh-duels)

Some of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki users (admins mostly, heh...) have spent some time using the normal channel for dueling. I made a note, and everyone thought it was a good idea to create a channel dedicated for that to keep it out of the main channel. At least one admin that would like to be able to at least see these does use the gateway so it would be nice to have. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 23, 2007 @ 03:24 (UTC)

Sorry Dantman, I don't have the ability to do this. Angela should be able to help you. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:31, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Tips for Greeting Newbies

Hey sannse, what do you think about this greeting so far? Any tips for improving things when talking to newbies? ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Nov 23, 2007 @ 04:53 (UTC)

That looks good! Keeping things friendly and simple is the key, and I would also urge you to be open to sightly different ways of doing things... does it really matter if a person uses template A instead of template B on an article (making up an example)... better to just welcome that they have done something. Oh, and you have a typo, it should be "If you're new to the wiki" ;) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:38, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] problem reports suggestion

i'm quite sure this isnt the proper place for this, but you seem to be the one to goto to get things sent off to the right departments. here's my idea:

if a logged in user submits a problem report ticket, can you automaticly put the comments page for that ticket number on that users watch list. ie Project_talk:ProblemReports/3744

obviously this is all moot if its an anon user, but it should help people stay in touch with their reported problems (ie, making the "leave a comment" function useful) --Uberfuzzy 16:26, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Uberfuzzy, sorry for the slow reply. That's an interesting idea. We are currently working on this feature, and one part of that is that we want to make it possible for admins to email people for more information, or just to encourage them to join the wiki and fix errors themselves. Do you think that would make the comment pages less necessary? Or do you think they would still be a needed part of the system? And are they in the right place? Maybe they should be part of a forum-like section instead? I think this could be a useful feature, buit it still needs some tweaks :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:34, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

email isnt a viable solution, too many people block emails from other users (and by block, i mean they dont unblock, yay opt in) or just dont have email filled in.
for the users that report an error in the information, we (@eq2) usualy just make the changes and mark "fixed" and carry on with the day. since its usualy an ip editor, theres no good place to say "you know you can hit 'edit' make the change, instead of filling out an error report"
i think the comment thread is a good enough idea/place to work with the user, they just dont know it exists after they submit the ticket.
one other thing i would like to suggest, another button, not sure what to call it though. something to say "we are looking into this" or "being delt with". as it is, the option to just leave it "waiting" has no indication that someone saw it. and as above, leaving a note on the comment thread is moot if anon or they dont have it watched.
--Uberfuzzy 18:09, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

The idea on this, would be that an email field would be required, so that it's possible for admins to reply. As you say, the comment page is good, but not visible to anons (I think the idea of adding the page to people's watchlist may also be a good one). It would then be easy for admins to send a quick note (you could have a standard template) that welcomes newbies and encourages them to log in and edit - a good way to help build the wiki!

I like the idea of a "in progress" button too. Maybe something like "admins aware". I've seen a lot that seem to fit in that category. I'll add that to the list. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 10:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Name it "Problem is sentient" ;) --CharitwoTalk 15:08, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be the admins that are sentient? :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:21, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks :)

My RfA
Dear sannse,
Thank you for closing my recent request for adminship. I appreciate the trust you have placed in me, and I will do my best to continue to serve our community with access to these extra tools. If there's anything I can ever do for you, please let me know.
Warm regards,

No problem! and Congratulations. I'm sure you will be a great addition to the team :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ged files

Thanks. There may be upwards of 5 million individuals in publicly available GED files that can be downloaded and used with genealogy programs. Hosting these will make our wikia a more attractive destination and sharing site as a source of downloads. Competitor genealogy sites still have many more features than us, but if I can maintain my interest, maybe the snowballing will get started over the coming months. ~ Phlox 16:37, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

No problem, let me know if you need anything else :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:37, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
