[edit] Thank you

Thank you for your help with the interwikis, the name change and adminship of the Polish edition. I'm giving you a real Dutch tulip for it Image:Thanks tulip.png :). --Karsten vK (talk) 19:54, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

No problem! and thanks for the tulip, that's really good of you :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Quartz links at the bottom

Hi Lisa, I have to run off to dinner but since you're around, I was pondering this today. Like I said in chat: speaking of ads, i'm wrestling with how to approach SocietyOfRobots.com about moving their site here...they're looking for a new host, they have almost 300K views per month, and more important, they're just the right kind of people...very wikipedish in their passion and values. But I was wondering if they would want to move to a site where the last 8 lines of every screen are devoted to game links and other wikia-specific stuff...that wouldn't look right on their messageboards, or at least they might think so. Obviously, they'd be willing to do a lot for free hosting, I imagine, but I notice that the Star Trek wiki in Wikia doesn't have all that stuff at the bottom, is that an option for a new wiki? - Dan Dank55 21:00, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Memory Alpha mostly still uses monobook skin, that's why the links aren't at the bottom. I'm not sure what would be allowed for a new wiki, although it does get awkward to maintain many wikis if there are too many special cases. The best person to talk to about this is Angela, she handles a lot of moving wikis, and will know more than I. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:12, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks...ah, I didn't know it was due to monobook. I'll talk with Angela and the guys over at SocietyOfRobots.com and see if they're interested, and if so, if we can get a meeting of the minds, I really don't have any idea what they want. Their site has a certain Spartan look to it. - Dan Dank55 22:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blocking Policy pages

Can I ask you to please protect all Blocking Policy pages?(EDD! 00:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Ban against italian IP

Excuse me, I would like to complain about the ban against Italian users. I don't think it's democratic nor useful to ban an entire nation for a few cases of vandalism. Moreover, there are some pages about Italy, which contains only quotes from the videogame super Mario, and other pages with absolutely uncorrect quotes in italian. If you allow us to help, we'd help to correct some really horrible mistakes. Thank you for considering my request. I'm looking forward to the end of this ban. You can contact me here http://nonciclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Discussioni_utente:Leonidas91

Best wishes, Andrea

Hi. Are you talking about the ban in Uncyclopedia? That's the decision of the Uncyclopedia admins (yes, I am one, but I'm talking as staff here). The feeling was that there was simply so much vandalism from that range, that it was better to block it even though that would be inconvenient for some users. It's not the whole of Italy of course, just one ISP (though a large one). If the problem user in question has moved on, then it might be possible to remove the ban. But last I heard he was still causing problems around Wikia. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Namespaces

Hello Sannse, I have a small request concerning namespaces on pl.mightandmagic Wikia. I would like to change the Project namespace (ns2) name, from the de facto wiki name into Meta:, and also add two more: Might and Magic: and Heroes:. I've made similar request about another wiki a year ago and you passed me to another person - however, either I cannot use the Wikia search engines, or this person vanished somehow :P Please, answer me on pl.mightandmagic. Have a nice day and thank you in advance for your help. Michał 16:42, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've done this. Since last time you asked we've been given new tools, so any member of the community team can help with this now :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:14, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IP/Possible sockpuppet

Hi Sannse, this is Brandon Rhea from the Star Wars Fanon Wiki. Could you please tell me if two users, Taelm360 and Nephlyte348, share the same IP address? I have a hunch that the former may be a sockpuppet of the latter being used to vote for themselves in a community awards event, so I just want to make sure that this user isn't breaking our Voting Policy and Sockpuppet Policy. You can put your answer here or on my talk page on Star Wars Fanon. Whatever's easier for you. - Brandon Rhea 00:11, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. No, there isn't a match on IPs. Of course, that doesn't always mean there isn't a match on users, but I can't verify it this way. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Joepedia adminship: election?

There are, as far as i know, only 2 active contributors. Me and NebulanFree. The rest are minor. Is there no way to turn me into an administrator? --Destron Commander 05:27, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry I missed your previous message. Yes, I can make you an admin, but I think it would be rather rude to the other active contributor to do so without his input - and without the possibility of him also becoming an admin. And this could be a great opportunity to get those minor editors involved! I'm not saying you need to have a big election, but I think that a discussion between you and NebulanFree and anyone else willing to get involved would be a good thing to do -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:24, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Namespace and interwikis

Hi, could you please rename a project talk namespace on ru.solutions wiki? It's "Обсуждение_ВикиПрохождения" now, but needs to be "Обсуждение_ВикиПрохождений". There aren't any pages in that namespace yet. And it would be great if ru.starcraft and starcraft wikis could be crosslinked by en: and ru: interwikis. Could you please setup it? Thank you. Медиа (Media) 09:52, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Done and done. The namespace change should show up fast, the interwikis within the next 24 hours. Can you check the namespace? The project namespace is set as "ВикиПрохождения", it's correct that the talk namespace is different? Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, this is correct. In Russian genitive form is different for many words (including "ВикиПрохождения"). Normally every Russian wiki should have customized project_talk namespace. Maybe we should add two fields to a new wiki request form: project namespace title (it offen is not the same as Wikia) and project talk namespace. Медиа (Media) 11:24, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] interwiki templates

Hi Sannse! Hope you had great holidays.

I noticed certain Central-based interwiki templates aren't propagating across wikias. Case in point: startrekfooter, here (jump to the bottom). I've tried w:c: and all that. Any idea why or how to fix it? Thanks, --Sasoriza 22:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

To add on to that, starwarsfooter isn't working either. - Brandon Rhea 03:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the report both, it's been passed to the technical team, hopefully they will have a solution soon -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Coen Brothers Wiki

Hiya sannse! I've been told by people that you might be the one to ask about having a Portal namespace added to the Coen Brothers Wiki. Gonk and I already have categories set up for the movies, but we'd really like to see something like Portals instead, much like on Wikipedia (and are there other wikis here with that?). At any rate, let me know if it's possible, and whether you think it's practical, and whether you could do it for us. Thanksamillion! Graestan(Talk) 07:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I can do that. Just to confirm, you want an additional namespace called "Portal" (with "Portal talk") yes? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that would be quite nice, and much appreciated. Thank you! Graestan(Talk) 16:32, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, That's done! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:33, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] heh

She never did remember to get these like I predicted :) --CharitwoTalk 06:07, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hidding rigth side menu

Hi, Sannse i found this its a very nice javascript that hides the right side menu of quartz and im curious to know if it does not go against any of the wikia policy (since i want to use it), mostly because it does not do an automatic hide but rather one has to manually hide it by clicking. --Cizagna (Talk) 19:31, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cizagna, I'll get back to you on this one very soon -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:10, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi Cizagna. It took some discussion, but the conclusion was that it is hiding the ads, and so is against our terms and conditions. Sorry -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:23, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Well i keep seeing that result =(, can it be use at a personal level, well my question is more like: can at personal JS/css use things to hide the ads? for example css display:none... would that go against wikia terms and conditions?--Cizagna (Talk) 14:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Adding css/js to your personal stylesheets is fine. However, something like putting up a sitenotice to persuade others they should do the same isn't. But we won't complain about any personal js/css you want to add that only affects you :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:24, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A graphics request

Hello there, Sannse. I saw on your userpage that you like to create favicons based on the logo. I wonder if you know someone who would be able to create logo for us (or maybe you can do this?), based on this cover (the stylised "Might and Magic" - without the number VI and "the mandate of heaven" subtitle, and a dragon)? Then I'd like you to create a favicon for us - of course if it causes no trouble for you and you have sufficient time for this. :) Michał 21:09, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

You could ask at Forum:Logo creation campaign for someone to help with a logo, I'd love to, but I don't think I'll have time! I will try to have a go at a favicon though, but if you can get someone else to help, that might be faster -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:20, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Crash Bandicoot wiki question

Can you close editing to the main page of this wiki: Crash Banicoot wiki -Dingocrikey

There is rarely a need to lock the main page of a wiki, especially a young one. It's much better to leave it open and try to get people to improve it! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:30, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Spotlight not working on Math

For some reason, the "Wikia Spotlight" image is not working on the English Mathematics Wikia, and instead a raw URL is being shown (see upper right corner of page). This is working in all the other languages (German, Spanish, French, Korean, Russian, Italian, Portuguese), just not in English. - dcljr 23:32, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Sigh... Nevermind. It wasn't working right up until I left the above message. Now it's working again. - dcljr 23:35, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

just a quick word of thanks for setting the forums up over at w:c:music. I'm hoping it will help bring a community together

[edit] mediawiki

first up, thanks for making me and HeckoX as bureaucrats in the Kingdom Hearts Wiki. Next, I need to know how Wikia Central, Star Wars Wiki and Final Fantasy Wiki managed to keep the margin on the right side of an article's content area, because no matter how I tweak it, the ad on the right is either overlapped or the right margin just disappears. hope you can help or point out who to call for help. Thanks in advance :) Blue。 20:12, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm going to ask JaeSharp to come over and see if he can help you... he's great at fixing problems like this :) He'll be with you soon -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:33, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removing Wikia account help

Hello,

How can I remove my Wikia account and account login details? This si becoming very frustrating. Could you advise?

Many thanks, Jack

I'm sorry you want to close your account. Is there a problem I can help with?
We don't have the ability to remove usernames, but you can disable the account by changing your password to random characters. Just go to Special:Preferences and make the change. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bot status request

Hi, I've been running a bot program I've written on a separate account on the Runescape Wiki a few days and I'd like it to be given bot status if that's possible, so that people can filtered its edits off of the Recent Changes page.

PointyBot user page

I was told you'd be the person to speak to - I have the support of 3 other admins and one editor - is that enough to be considered consensus? I'll check back here if you want to keep the conversation in one place.

Thanks,

Pointy 23:23, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Runescape has a lot of editors... four people isn't many from there. Did anyone say that they objected to the bot? Did you ask somewhere that people will see the question and have a chance to comment? Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:38, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I've posted the link a few times in the #rswiki IRC. No-one's objected so far, but I'm happy to keep canvasing for more support if it's needed. I'll post here again once I've got a few more people on board. Cheers, Pointy 15:12, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
The best thing is to ask on the wiki, where everyone can see and commnet. Let me know :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:00, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi again. I've doubled up - there's 9 supports now. How many do you think you'd need in order to be happy with botting the account? Pointy 16:58, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
That's fine :) thanks for taking the time to check with the community. I've added the flag to PointyBot -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Administrator

Hi, I would like to know what I need to do to become an Administrator of Charmed Wiki, I have been dedicating some time to the Wiki, in fact I already started organizing it, and I would like to turn it into a great Wiki of the series, last year I was increasing the articles of the episodes but I stopped so I could finish my studies, now I would like to continue, but there are few active users (I do not know if there are managers visiting the Wiki), what can I do? Thanks.... (NOTE: If you want answer me here, I'll be checking to see your response) --Hafrp3 05:13, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I recently made Lieutenant Ayala admin and bureaucrat there, so the best thing is to talk to them. Looks like the wiki is getting a good restart! Good to see you editing there -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 19:19, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I will talk to them....--Hafrp3 20:11, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Possible sockpuppetry

Hello, Sannse. This is Bluerfn from the Kingdom Hearts Wiki again. There is a vandal with the account User:Edudlive who was previously a vandal in the Final Fantasy Wiki, and has now tried to do the same in the Kingdom Hearts Wiki. He made another account User:Edudlive2 there, both were blocked recently. I would like to ask if both of their IPs are the same as User:Cloudofdarkness, because there are occurrences in the Final Fantasy Wiki that point User:Cloudofdarkness and User:Edudlive are the same person. You can answer here or in my talk page, or wherever is convenient to you, thanks. Blue。 06:42, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't get any results for Edudlive or Edudlive2, so can't compare them - looks like their edits fall outside the area I can search in. Sorry -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:10, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Does that mean that both of this accounts are not the same as the editor account above? In any case, I just hope we don't have cases of vandalism from these guys. Thank you for your time. Blue。 20:32, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I means I can't tell either way... sorry about that -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:45, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New sysop for CCM Wikia

Good Morning!

The sysop/admin for the Canadian Cadet Movement wiki has abandoned the project (He posted a note, locked his talk page and self-banned). Of the other two, 1 has never made any comments or posts since the creation of the site and may be a secondary account of DrWand and Pedro has not made any posts since he was accused of being a sockpuppet (but shown not to be).

Would it be possible for the active users to nominate a new sysop? ----J-P 14:09, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I think "has been chased off" would be rather a better description than "has abandoned" - a very sad thing. But he was careful enough to leave new admins in place, and I'm content to leave it as that for now. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:30, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 2 new interlangs on Math

A few days ago I left a message in the Help Forum about 2 new languages for the Math Wikia, and was told to contact "staff" about it. I see you're staff as well as an admin, so can you enable interlanguage linking to the two new languages (via it: and pt:)? If so, TIA. - dcljr 20:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've updated all the interlanguage links for all eight Maths wikis. It can take up to 24 hours for this to show on wiki, so please check after that and let me know of any problems. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:10, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Another Crash Bandicoot wiki question

Can you make it that only a user can edit their own user page, on this wiki:Crash Banicoot wiki -Dingocrikey

Wikis are designed to be as open as possible, and there is really no need to lock down the User namespace in this way. If there is a problem, then specific pages can be protected. But generally any vandalism can be reverted quickly and easily, and any good edits are... good! So, no, I can't do this. Sorry -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:12, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] en.anime to anime

/ You were wrong sannse... There is a redirect, but there are issues with it...

http://en.anime.wikia.com/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Anime-Common.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s&templates=expand

Actually redirects to http://en.anime.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page insted of:

http://anime.wikia.com/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Anime-Common.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s&templates=expand

Like it should... And this is causing every wiki including the global scripts to have their JS and CSS that depends on it or pages which use it to become broken.

I'll fix all the references in a bit, but perhaps the techs should find some way to fix this so that the query is kept when a page is redirected. There are other possible references in use that could break. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Jan 24, 2008 @ 05:40 (UTC)

[edit] w:c:Dofus server image issues

for some reason the following images appear as blanks.

--Cizagna (Talk) 16:46, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I see them all... maybe a bit slow to show from the image server? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:00, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah you won me the edit xD (and this constants database locks >.>), Lirielle overwrited the files to put the proper ones, but still if you see the file history it has 0 bytes 0x0 size.
on a side note im seeing the same issue in the special upload log that i reported/saw with the problem report log i see "overwrited" but i dont see what has been overwrite i have to enters that users contributions so i can know what has been overwrite i will report this also in the 1.12 bug page at forums --Cizagna (Talk) 20:06, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Cizagna, I've checked, and the "overwrite" bug is in the system. On the uploaded 0 byte files, sounds like a glitch, I would say let's see if it happens again. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] adopting an abandoned wiki

Hi, I was interested in adopting the parawiki (ParaWiki Main Page) and wondered how do I go about finding or becoming an administrator (or burocrate (sp)) in order to actually run the wiki? Thanks for you help! --Rocksanddirt 23:54, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I see the bureaucrat there has made you an admin... good work on the wiki! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:48, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] SciFi Wiki

Is there a way to get more people to help enlarge the SciFi Wiki because me and Steed are the only ones who have been doing anything on it. Also who is supposed to be in charge of the wiki? and is there a way for one of us to become an administrator on the wiki?--UESPA 17:49, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

It looks like the founder has moved on... I've made you and Steed admins. There is some advice on how to promote a wiki at w:c:help:Attracting Contributors. The main thing is to go to places where there might be interested people, and tell them about it. Of course, you shouldn't spam, that will just annoy people. But if you can inform and invite people, then hopefully some will come to the wiki. Good luck -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:55, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much!!!and how exactly do you use these powers as an administrator?--UESPA 21:25, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Most of the useful links are new ones a the top of articles (log out and in again if you can't see them) allowing you to delete and protect articles, or on "Special:Specialpages" which has an admin section at the bottom now. See Help:Administrators' how-to guide for some help with using the new tools. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:19, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] You wannted to talk?

I'm Jimbo the cheese FORMER andministrator of the vetetarian wikia, untill they took my powers, my position, my glory from me! I HATE THEM! i tried to destroy them, i used my admin powers to block one, but annother attacked me and unblocked the one i defeated, but my actions were justifed weret they, the wikia was dead, i was the only editor, i tried to revert it so i could start again. so they were justified right? Jimbo the cheese 09:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

You were putting rather silly and inappropriate notices on the main page, and then deleting content randomly, that's not helping the wiki. I removed your admin flag, because you seemed to be playing some sort of a game with the wiki, and not working to improve it as an admin should. What's this all about? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:45, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I might step in here. allow me to introduce myself i am identifyed as Gigatronalmighty and my brother is none other than the deranged User:Jimbo the cheese, his actions were clearly unjustified and i might adress you here on this subject, it'll be his turn on the computer soon, and he'll want his sysop position back. See if you can talk some sence into him. Gigatronalmighty 08:22, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I don’t wish for my brother to be a part of what i am going through at the moment, you already know so butt out! Anyway, I was playing no game with the wikia, how can I possibly improve a dead hunk of useless information, I had tried, did all I might try to do, I went on expeditions to rival wiki's asked permission to link to them and use some of their information, they didn’t care to answer me. I try and try and try until I get to the point where i say to myself "I need a break, a long break, and when i get back, perhaps some things would have changed, then I could sit at the head of a thriving wiki and be proud of myself, but no when I return what is there, a few users who don’t use it redirecting their pages, so I lose it, in fact i decide to DROP THE GAME and reveal my true self. Then I started getting rid of what was being more of liability than anything, so deciding to do so with a bit of a BANG! i left a rather imaginative notice on the front page and started to remove pages, then some janitor shows up and removes my notice, driving me more insane, so much so that I unleash my sysop powers upon the janitor, but I did not know the extent of their power, they unblocked themselves and continued on their work, I decided to get rough with this guy, (i did not know he was a janitor at the time) and tried to ban him again, but i fount this impossible as a user (who i latter found out was a helper) who identified himself as user:pansolo banned me for three days, with no given reason! Then, YOU come along, take away my status and invite me to talk! Can you imagine how mad I am? I try but get shot down. no one will lend a hand, I’m the ONLY user who ever DID anything on that wiki and its creator, USELESS wont even respond to me, this was not the first time i had an idea to remove the wiki, but that time i made the mistake of asking permission, which i was denied! i had already started "converting" the wiki, and if you research my contributions you'll see what occurred, so now after rolling back my efforts i give up and take that break, what does this wiki mean to YOU anyway? I don’t see you OR ANYONE ELSE editing it.

I think a break is a very good idea. Then, if you are interested in building a wiki, my advice is to add content... lots of it. I'm afraid sitting back and hoping people arrive will never make you the proud founder. I would also suggest that you drop the dramatics. "unleash my sysop powers"? :) Sounds as though you think you are playing a game, rather than trying to build a serious wiki. And remember, founders do not own a wiki. Which is why staff like me, and other helpers, will step in if an admin is acting unreasonably. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I think I need some examples on this, Charitwo... including what the user sees. Are they just accidentally logging out? I'm not clear on what the problem is. Thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:32, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Math interlangs revisited

Thanks for following up on my request to add it: and pt: interlanguage links to the various Math Wikia, but it: still isn't working on English (they're all working on the other language wikis). - dcljr 23:09, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Oops! missed that one... it should be fixed now (with the usual delay of up to 24 hours). Sorry about that -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:55, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hub called "Countries" or "Places"

Hi I was going through the wikis and from what I could figure out was that Hubs is some kind of a top level Category. If my understanding is right, is it possible to have a Hub called "Countries" or "Places ? I was looking for wikis related to countries and I did manage to find the one I was looking for (India) but it was under Travels. Though Travel is a good hub to put country details in, I doubt its the ideal Hub for putting all details about a country. Travel wikis which are more specific to a traveler's requirements should ideally go in there. I am sure there are a lot of people who would be interested in adding information about their country and an easy access would probably help in speeding this. Would like to hear your point of view on it. - Shubz

Ideally, there should only be a few hubs. That way they are easy to look through and reflect the real "top level" of the category tree. I wonder whether it would be clearer to have the hub called "Travel and places". What do you think? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:57, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey that sounds like a good idea. That should do the trick. It would make it amply clear that Country details can also be found under the same heading. :) - Shubz

[edit] Apply to become a Janitor?

Hi, its me Gigatronalmighty right here, you may remember me as the brother of user:jimbo the cheese but trust me, i'm very little like him, and i want to help around ALL wikis, I learnd about janitors and thought "hey, thats just the position i need to help all wikis!" but i am assuming you wont just give me the position cos i'm a nice guy, so what am i going to have to do to apply? Gigatronalmighty 08:23, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi. This isn't really a position you apply for. It's given to long term, very trusted, and very active contributors. People are selected when it becomes clear they are the right person. Sorry. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Another bug?

Sometimes when browsing redirects, wanted X, etc for housekeeping, I like to expand the list and find things that need help the most and take care of them first. But there is a problem, I used to, but can't anymore, expand or proceed the lists past 1000 (the limit should be 5000) like with other lists, but it's not doing it for certain special pages. I can't put a number higher than 1000 in the limit in the url, nor can I advance past 1000 clicking (Next ###) once I go over 1000 it just says empty page. Like for example with our wanted pages, it says there are only 1000, but there are far far more. Any idea if this can be fixed or if it's even a bug at all? --CharitwoTalk 23:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Charitwo, I've asked the tech team about this, -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 13:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Shoutbox

It looks like the who's online count and listing is fixed, although it seems like a hit and miss, it's working on ffxi and wookieepedia, but not on Halopedia for example. I'm guessing their still working on it? Thanks sannse :) --CharitwoTalk 17:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Yep... or rather, the fix is in 1.12, so any wikis still on 1.10 won't have the fix yet. As soon as they are upgraded all should be well -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:49, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Template

How would I create a new Template? -Dingocrikey

Hi, all you need to do is create a page with the title "Template:Whatever". The content of that page will show on any other page, when you type in whatever
This actually works with other pages too, if there isn't a template with that name the system looks for a mainspace article with that name. But it's best to use "Template:" to save confusion.
Hope that helps -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:51, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Adminship

Sannse,I was wondering if I could become an admin/sysop for Custom Bionicle Wiki since the only other admin hasn't been on in a while, and there are no bureaucrats to be found. The Wiki is in need of help, and this will probably help a lot. The Oracle23 02:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

There seem to be a few people editing there, so it's best for all the active users to discuss this and decide who should be admin. That can be one of you, or all of you, but it's best for the current community to decide that. Let me know what you all decide -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 23:24, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ru.writers

Hi, there's a message for you at c:ru.writers:User talk:New-Gen. However, it's in Russian, so I've made a translation for you. Медиа (Wassily Steik) 19:57, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Wikia? You're in russian section of the project and you'd better write in Russian or ask someone to translate. To make things more clear, I'll make an example: a high building is building by some rules, but every flat with it's people and families had it's own laws and rules and follows 'em.

There're explanations below, which define what's "multi-licensing":

Multi-licensing is an internet project where content can be placed with different kinds of licensing, either author's or free. It's required that for author's texts and images provided by authors must be specified a name (or nickname) of user or users who worked on it. All website content can be used in other projects (full articles, parts of text, images), but it's required to link to a website where that content was taken from and to write author's name, when content is used in free projects or for science or education. It's required to pay to authors for a commercial usage of website's content.

This project isn't free and can't be free for all articles and images under GFDL terms, especially for author's content published here. —This unsigned comment is by 76.15.80.15 (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

As you see, that non-free content isn't situable for Wikia, because GFDL allows commercial usage without any additional requirements (comparing to free websites). Perhaps we should look for that "author's texts" (maybe they were copied from non-free resources in the past) and delete them. However, it's up to you how to deal with it. I'm ready to help translating something else if needed. Медиа (Wassily Steik) 19:57, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I've left a reply, basically saying that content on Wikia must be under the GFDL to coply with our terms of use. Perhaps you could help by making sure what I've written is understood by all on the wiki? That would be a big help. Thanks again - sannse@Wikia (talk) 23:22, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pardus wiki

Hello there, i need to ask a favor, will you please close this wiki [1]. My reasons for this request are simple. I have become ill and can't really help anymore, no one really visits it at all, The few users have done little and i think The wiki will just stagnate and be left alone so will you please close it down.--Ultraice 22:44, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

I would suggest leaving it be. 56 articles is a great start, and a wiki with a start like that may attract a new admin to take it on. In the mean time, our global users will keep an eye out for spam and other problems. Even a very slow trickle of visitors to the wiki is good, and will help it in its chances of being restarted. You've doe a great job of getting the first stage going, the wiki has content and the possibility of a great future! I hope your health improves, and we see you back one day in the future :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 23:29, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] E-Wrestling Encyclopedia problem

Hey there Sennse,

I wanted to check in and see what to do on a page that you restricted on the fouth of February. I'm speaking of Kovu Rex and there is a user who wants to have that page reinstated. What can we do here? Thanks for the help! Sundogs user talk | eWE 17:29, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Sundogs, it's up to you :) If you think the user is genuine and is going to write a decent page, then I'd suggest unprotecting. If you think it will be more of the same offensive vandalism, then best leave it protected. You are the best person to decide that as the site admin. Let me know if you need help though. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:38, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Admin Request

May I please become an admin for the Diablo Wiki? Its pretty dead, but I've been editing it for a little while, and figure that having a few extra powers will certainly help. Especially since someone just vandalised a page and it would be nice to be able to block them. There's also Kirkburn that seems to be active, but I haven't noticed anything major from him lately. I wouldn't mind being a Bureaucrat either, because although the wiki is dead at the moment, a new Diablo game will come out sometime in the future which will bring the wiki back to life and I plan on being here when it does. I'm good-natured and think fairly, I will only use my powers for good lol. And then I'd be able to accept people that I think could be good administrators, as well as making Kurkburn one, who I think also deserves it.

Atrumentis 12:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've made you admin and beaurocrat :) Kirkburn doesn't need to be made admin, he is a Wikia Helper so has admin access on all wikis. But this makes him the ideal person to ask if you need any help or advice. He works specifically on gaming Wikia, so should be able to help with any problems. Or of course, you can leave another message here. Have fun! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Ohh, thank you very much :) Atrumentis 05:28, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

I have a problem on Custom Bionicles. It seems that when I go to my category, there appears to be an infinite amount of sub-categories under By The Oracle23(just click the + to its left).I was wondering if you could help me?I've tried nearly everything.I've even taken a screenshot of it.Take a look.

The Oracle23 19:05, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Nice bug! The problem is that you have "Category:By The Oracle23" in "Category:By The Oracle23" (via the tabs template). So it's actually acting as you asked it to, and showing all of itself, within itself :) The only way around this is not to have that category inside itself. Maybe by not using the template - just copying the bits of the template code you need into the category text? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:44, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Ok,I'm going to try that now.And thanks for selecting me as one of the possible admins!I appreciate it a lot.The Oracle23 15:19, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

That one is just a little too big... 16 x 16 pixels is the maximum. But if I have time this afternoon, I'll try shrinking it and converting it to the right file type. If you want to remake it the right size, go ahead, and I'll convert and upload. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:25, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Simpsons Wiki

The Simpsons Wiki is in poor shape. Some pages have been nominated for deletion for weeks, and there is a statement on your main page that is dead wrong. It needs a new administrator (and maybe a new beaureaucrat) because few of there current ones are active (in fact, the site manager has edited in over six months). I am fairly new to it, but I have over 30,000 edits (many of them to Simpsons related pages) on as Scorpion0422 on Wikipedia, and if you would be willing to make me an administrator, I would do my best to help clean the place up. Another user there who could help is Dr. Ralph Wiggum because he has been the most active. -- Brian McClure 19:15, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

I left a message on Brian's talk page... I'm happy to see that someone wants to help out on the Simpsons! -- Danny (talk) 19:36, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Default Widgets for Wikis

Hi, Sannse! We switched from the old Monobook to the new Monaco skin on the Earthen Ring Wiki, today, and we're really enjoying using widgets for the first time (if only we had been informed that so many of the requests we made could have been solved with them)! However, we'd like to set some of the widgets as the wiki's defaults. How can we do that? Have I just overlooked an option?

Also, the Widget Dashboard appears to have some appearance problems on my computer with that skin: the close and settings buttons for each widget are not attached to the widgets, themselves. Is this a known issue?

Thanks in Advance,
--Lilithia 21:32, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Lilithia, glad you like the new skin! I've not looked at the widgets on this yet, but I'll look into these issues tomorrow and get back to you -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 23:19, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi Sannse! Any update? --Lilithia 17:08, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Oops! Sorry I didn't get back to you. As far as I can see, it's not possible for an admin to define the default widgets. But I'm in San Francisco all this week with the rest of the Wikia staff, so I'll be able to find out if this is a possible future development. On the Widget Dashboard, I can't see what you see. Can you give me some more details? What browser/Operating system do you use? And if possible, could you upload a screenshot to show what you see? Many thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 23:12, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into the widget situations for me. As for the bug, after looking into it over the weekend the problem appears to be with the version of browser I am using at a specific computer: IE 6.0. It is likely that the bug only occurs in this older browser, so no worries. Thank you! --Lilithia 12:24, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Ah, IE6... I've reported that to the technical team. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:44, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Sannse,I was going to check out the main page, put I noticed that some things were deleted, such as the logo, welcome to image, ect.,and the adminship election page, and I looked up the history for that page, and LittlemanJ95 deleted it.I'm not sure what's going on.--The Oracle23 22:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, the founder returned, and wasn't happy with the admin election page. I've cleaned things up, removed his access, and explained to him that the community needs to be the ones to choose admins now. [edit] FFXI monaco

Hey sannse :)

We've set our custom skin to Monaco tonight and we've chosen this thread on our forums as the place to compile errors, bugs, and other odd things(including a wierd script error for a few). Please take a look at it when you get a chance. I've also noticed that diffs are still in monobook on the new skin, hope this helps with that ticket. Before I go, was the search box "Guess the article you want" from Quartz not included in monobook, because it doesn't seem to be working on Monaco. Let me know.

Thanks a lot. --CharitwoTalk 06:07, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Please can you put any issues at Forum:Monaco skin now available in preferences. Best to try and keep them in a few places, not all over Wikia. Thanks for letting me know about diffs, that's in trac. The search predict will be back, it just needs a little work to ensure it is compatible with the new skin -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:48, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm requesting administrator for the silkroad online wikia. [edit] I have a bone to pick with you

Remember a few months back when I asked about individual blogs for wikis, you investigated for me (which I appreciate) and we found out this wasn't an option. I'm clicking around on Halopedia, and find they have their own Special blogging service! [2] What gives? -- LordTBT Talk! 05:33, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi LordTB. We've got two different things going on here, the blogs that we talked about take a special page and export it to an external blog. The Halo blogs are part of their move to a "magazine wiki". This is a wiki with social tools, games, competitions and blogs... as well as the more traditional content. There have been a few of these for a while. ArmchairGM was the first and there are also gaming, politics and other versions. Moving Halo to this style of wiki is something new that we and the Halo community are trying out. Depending on how that goes, there are likely to be more chances to use this new stuff in the future. Hope that explains it all :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 21:43, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Right, I'm familiar with the magazine wikis here at Wikia. When it's decided these other social features will be available to other wikias, please let me know, as I would be interested. -- LordTBT Talk! 22:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] External Link

Hey there and Good Morning from the U.S. of A.,

One of my users at E-Wrestling is having a problem with externally using his personal website to his wikia page. Is this a bug or a block in the system for not having unwanted needs? Please post response on here and my talk page please for me to read it quicker. Thanks. Sundogs user talk | eWE 14:57, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey back :) I'm not quite clear on what you mean here... what exactly is he trying to do? Perhaps you could link me to the page he's trying to make? -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 16:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
I think he's talking about using an external link in an article and that website is blocked by the global spam filter. --CharitwoTalk 20:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
One of the users is having an issue with externally link a page that is somehow blacklisted and Jack_Phoenix informed me that I could use MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist page. I have not heard from this user yet but I assume the best worked out. Sundogs user talk | eWE 00:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks, but

How do I know if the wiki is mine? And if it is, how do I stop people from making more pages? Warlordehlek 22:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikia wikis are never owned by one person, they are open wikis that belong to the whole community. One person usually starts them, and they will be the first admin (a person with some extra controls, such as the ability to delete pages). You can't "own" bzpower.wikia, but you are very welcome to edit there. There is no way to stop other people adding pages - the idea is that they do! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 23:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Admin

How do you find out if you're an Admin? Warlordehlek 23:50, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I need one last ip check on another user: This one. Hopefully this will be the last one. We seem to be having a few accusations on people and I would like them cleared up. Sorry to bother you about this. Thanks, H*bad (talk)

[edit] Request for Adminship.

Hello, Sannse. I am Blue from the Square Wiki. I am an admin, but I wish to become bureaucrat, because I have recently acquired trustworthy editors to help with more administrative tasks in the Wiki. Furthermore the existing bureaucrat for this wiki has not logged in for many months now. I am a rollback user in the Final Fantasy Wiki, bureaucrat in the Kingdom Hearts Wiki and sysop in the Megami Tensei Wiki. Now I wish to improve further the Square Wiki. Please consider my request for bureaucracy. You may contact me here or at my talk page in the Square Wiki. Thank you. [^_^]/ 06:16, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

yep, that's fine. You may want to remove the big flashy "wikibreak" from your user page though :) Log out and in again to see the change -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 17:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] fr.film.wikia

Hello, the page http://fr.film.wikia.com/wiki/Franck_Laroze doesn't respect the GFDL because the page that should list the authors on french wikipedia have been deleted (before), but admin Dagniaud [3] don't want to delete it. I am contacting you because I have seen your message about his 11 accounts and some french wikipedia users think it may be Nezumi, a former wp-fr admin banned by arbcom for using multiple sockpuppets, so he should be watched carefully, if its him you should see BSSGW152 St Geneviève on the whois (IP usually start with 83.114, 82.121, 86.218 ...). Akeron 17:37, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, is it possible for an admin there to find the list of authors for attribution? There is a suitable template at w:c:Starter:Template:Wikipedia-deleted that could be adapted for this use. That should solve the problem -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bionicle Fan Fiction Wikia

Hello sannse, it's me Crazy-Lihkan38 from the Custom Bionicle Wikia! My request for a wikia was rejected, and it told me of a new wikia, the Bionicle Fan Fiction Wikia. I was wondering, since it has like only 3 users and an admin that never comes online (in fact, the users don't either) I'd liek to wonder if I could become an admin their and revive it. I'll add content and get some Custom Bionicle buddies to help edit. What do you say?

Custom Bionicle Wikia Crazy-Lihkan38 Bionicle Fan Fiction Wikia

OK, I've made you an admin there... have fun! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:25, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Erick, again

Hello, Sansee. I am Mighty Erick, the guy from Imagination Wiki, again. I set Monaco, and now the "most popular" list is working well with the articles I picked, but the most visited list is still damaged even when using Monaco. Can you check it out? Thanks a looooooootttt :)! 13:09, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Mighty Erick, again. Oops... I did not noticed the "Edit this menu" thingy is smashing up the first article of the most popular list. It looks like the bugs will never end. :0 22:40, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Mmm... The most popular is working again. But there is still the most visited's problem. Thanks for any help! 02:36, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, yep... looks like the bug is still there. I've checked my report to the technical team, and it's been assigned. Hopefully the guy will be able to look soon. I'll try and catch up with him to see how it's going (he's in a different timezone, so I don't see him much) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:39, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, thing sra working now. Mighty Erick 20:49, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Garlic mustard photo

Hi Sannse

We are doing an educational piece on removing garlic mustard from the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Garden just celebrated its 100th birthday last year and is the oldest wildflower garden in the U.S.

I love your photo of garlic mustard and am wondering if you would allow us to use in on our information card? Please let me know. I haven't used Wiki talk before so if I don't hear from you, I'll write to you at the gmail address you have on the garlic mustard page.

Thanks in advance. The garden is owned by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board so it is a non-profit. We can't pay you for the use but would appreciate if you would allow us to use it. I'll send you a copy of the card it appears on.

L.L.

[edit] Bot flag

Hi,

One sysop of fr.guildwars.wikia is asking the bot flag for his bot account : AlkiBot. Are you among the people that can do this ? If not, could you point me where to go fo this ? I've use the search without any success in retreiving where did i made my own resquest a few months ago... By the way, he's using the python bot, but i think i'll try to make him use Autowikibrowser some day in the future...

Thanks. — TulipVorlax 22:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, yes, I can set this. I just need to know that there is community agreement on fr.guildwars for this account to be flagged as a bot. If the community are confident that he knows what he's doing and will use the bot responsibly, then all's well with me! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:49, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
We did not conducted a survey; we are only 3 users who would care to give agreement anyway and we already have it. ;-) I can start a discussion in the forum but it would take a week or a month to have more than 3 « vote » on this and we need him to use the bot account instead of his regular sysop account so that what he's doing dont clutter the RC anymore. Lately, we only see his doing in the RC and are unable to do our patrol...
So, what do you think would be the best for me to do ? Advises are always welcomed. — TulipVorlax 21:34, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
The agreement of the three of you is fine, if you are the active community at the moment :) I'll set this now. The bot will need to log out and in again to see the change -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:10, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
The 3 of us is what we are currently. We have a few others users that comes and go and sometimes return... People are somehow affraid of the amount of work still needed... (or most frenchies still dont understand how wikis are functionning)
Well, thank a bundle. — TulipVorlax 01:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Templates on Central

Templates at Central can be used at any other wiki with relative ease; see Forum:Central_as_Backup_Namespace_for_Templates?. Also, see [4], [5], and [6] for how I'm using them - and, for that matter, how I'm having trouble with them. It seems that the code as copied from Wikipedia doesn't work correctly on Wikia. --Jesdisciple (talk) 23:51, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IP check

Hi Sannse. If you could do me a big favor, could you check the IP addresses of Endor chicken, Guy JzG Chapman and Darth Vacatour and let me know if any of the IPs are similar? There was some vandalism on Star Wars Fanon that would be so random if they weren't the same person, so I'd like to know if they are, in fact, the same people. Thanks! :D - Brandon Rhea

Darth Vacatour has been gone too long to get results for. The other two don't match, but don't forget that may not mean anything... depending on whether they are using open proxies and so on -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:04, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gaiapedia/Wikia ACG/Requests Status

:/ I'm probably going to end up typing to much again, so feel free to skim first...

Hey, sannse, I just thought I should notify you about a few changes. Primarily I've been narrowing my focus, and changing some of it around.

The first thing is about the Gaiapedia. I've finally decided it's a good time to leave it, I found a new editor who became highly active on the wiki (Q Cumba FX), and made him Sysop. So I can happily state, that the completely dead Wiki I adopted erm... wow... a year and a half ago, has become an active and autonomous wiki. So besides peaking in on it once in awhile, or helping on something if the Sysop there needs help, I'm not going to pay much attention to it anymore.

Also, for Wikia ACG, I finally made a few updates on the page (The Wikia ACG page on the Projects wiki is now the main information area, instead of copying things over on multiple pages on Central, Animepedia, and there). The list of wiki in the project (w:c:projects:Wikia ACG/Involved Wiki) has changed a fair bit. All the strike'd out wiki there are in a sort of semi-abandoned state. Meaning that while at one point someone there decided it would be a good idea to have the wiki join the project, but ended up abandoning it or the wiki itself went dead, and so they are siting in a state where while some of them may be configured as a Wikia ACG wiki, the decision on if the wiki is going to stay on that list or not is left to the community there if any exists or shows up there.

So, with the Gundam Wiki being ValiantHeart's area, the GaoGaiGar-Betterman Wiki being Kuukai2‎'s area, AliceSoft being Afker's area, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki being a completely independent wiki which decided to join the project. The actual list of wiki I have direct involvement in, is down to just the Narutopedia and the Animepedia.

Actually, that direct involvement isn't even there as much anymore. On the Narutopedia, the community has grown a fair bit. Not in all ways, but it's definitely grown. Unfortunately, it hasn't grown much in the area of being able to hunt down stubs or other stuff. So my role there has now mostly funneled down to tagging new Stubs, tagging poor copies for replacement (Forgetting to copy from source and instead copying from page text), tagging images with no rationale, and helping a little in catching the vandalism and other stuff that TheUltimate3 misses (he's good at catching stuff, but unfortunately he sometimes misses some stuff in his reverts, or some of the vandalism that vandals he's dealt with have made).

For the most part I probably wanted to notify you of this, cause I was thinking of creating a Game Guide Wiki for the game Okami which I've recently found to be the best game I've ever played. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Mar 20, 2008 @ 06:51 (UTC)

Hey Dantman, all sounds great :) it's good to see a wiki grow up and be independent! I'm sure Catherine will be happy to make the new wiki, or give me a shout and I'll click the buttons. Best wishes -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:18, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Mkay... I've got some things to check out... I found out that there is an Okami World Wiki, however I'm trying to see how good it would work out. Talking to the contributors there in the forum isn't looking so promising right away. Not really the whole fact about it being out of date or maintained by someone without the proper experience or knowledge, much less on a poor host... The issue is that the editors there don't seam to be grasping the concept of the Wiki-way, or openness and prefer to put no license on the wiki and not license it under a free license like the GFDL. ((Honestly, I'm not even sure about the aspects of leaving a wiki without the metadata for a license... Makes you wonder because of the whole automatic copyright in law. I don't even know if you can run an open editing wiki without a license)). ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) (tricks) (current topic) Mar 21, 2008 @ 03:51 (UTC)

[edit] Janitor

My message is about janitors. Are they the same than administrator? I just want to know. 89.27.36.123 18:08, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Janitors have the same access as admins, the same abilities, but on all Wikia wikis. However, that doesn't mean that they are admins on all wikis! They are there to help control spam and vandalism, and to give help and advice to admins. But they aren't there to take over from admins or to tell them how things should be done :) Local admins are the ones responsible for local wiki, janitors are there to help. I hope that explains it -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:22, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. What about another question? Well how to become a janitor. Not that I would now want to be one, but i just want to "be sure" about things. 89.27.36.123 12:39, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Basically it's by invitation from the community team :) we look for people who are very active in the Wikia community as a whole, and very trusted, and then ask them if they want to join the team. It's not something you can apply for I'm afraid -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 18:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
So what's the best way to get the Community Team to consider inviting someone? Simply ask anyone on IRC and they'll know that I'm quite active there (also stats don't lie), I'd have to be trusted enough to be given +sysop here on Central, on Egamia, and on the Gaming.wikia hub, and I try to help out users on IRC and those that post on the forums as much as possible. I also clean up spam and such as I come across it. Anything else that I should be doing to help myself get considered by the Comm Team? --Skizzerz talk 19:16, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Skizzerz, I thought we talked about this on IRC already? I'm not ready to add the next person yet, but I know you are interested. Activiy, helpfullness to other users an general good 'tone' are all important. But I don't think it's time to add another yet. -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:57, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] 2 Viva Pinata wikis??

hello there, i was wondering, why are there 2 viva pinata wikis, did someone add a second by accident or is one a evil one lol, no just kidding but why are there 2. Can you explain that to me please? Here are the 2 sites [7] [8] --Jellygem 01:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

They were just started by different people :) We keep to one wiki on each subject on Wikia, but that doesn't mean that someone outside Wikia won't have a wiki on that subject. It looks like the one on Wikia never got started though, it's inactive... a shame -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 01:20, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] our viva pinata wiki

I was wondering, could you make make a admin or beau or sypop on the inactive viva pinata wiki please, i could help revive it, also can you get some people to come help build it up please?--Jellygem 02:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC) p.s. which one do you think is the evil one lol

Oh Wikia is never the evil one ;)
If you became admin, I wouldn't be able to get people to come to build up the wiki, that would be your job! That would mean lots of editing to build content, and lots of promoting the wiki to encourage people to visit. Think that's something you want to do? -- sannse@Wikia (talk)

[edit] Ads

  • Sannse, similar to issues (about content being SFW) we've had in the past with the sidebar ads on Wookieepedia such as the Zwinky ads, could you please pass on a request to the appropriate Wikia staff to remove the Divadolls swim suit ads from Wookieepedia's ad bundles? Thanks. Atarumaster88 Wookieepedia talk page 17:01, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
    • Update: The correct url is www.divavillage.com. Anyway, we'd like to keep our wiki free from having to deal with these sort of issues, and Wikia has been great in helping us out in this area in the past. Thanks. Atarumaster88 Wookieepedia talk page 17:30, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Brandon Rhea from Star Wars Fanon, here. We're having the same issue with ads, including that one, that just are not in good taste. We'd appreciate it if Wikia would be able to do something about this, considering this is not the environment that we created for Star Wars Fanon and it's not the environment that any Wiki should create. Thanks. - Brandon Rhea (Talk)

Hi both, I've asked JSharp to look at this, he should be in touch soon. --sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:57, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, everyone. I've reported the divavillage swimware ads to our advertising manager. If you see any other ads that you do not think fit your community please let us know and we'll evaluate them. -- JSharp (talk) @Wikia 16:56, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] can i change my nickname?

it is possible to change my nickname to "Suseman?" Thank you. --סוזה מן 17:33, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Because Wikia uses a shared user database, it's not possible to change your nicknme. But you can make a new account, and redirect your old user pages to the new one. That usually does the job --sannse@Wikia (talk) 22:57, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bureaucrat on Imagination Wiki

Hello, Sannse, it is me, Mighty Erick from Imagination Wiki. I have gotten some users (darth taikin and mastergame) that i think would help me with some administrative tasks. But i am not bureaucrat, and the only bureacrat (JuWki) is online only one time each month, and does not reply my messages anymore (I think he is not interested in this project anymore). Can you make me bureacrat, please? Thanks in advance. Mighty Erick 18:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Please can you email JuWki and see if you can get agreement to you becoming a bureauctat. Hopefully that will sort it out :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Just another question: How can I change the project name space "ImagineWiki" to just "Imagination" Mighty Erick 20:08, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

You just need to get agreement from other contributors, and I'll make the change -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 11:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Currently, there are only four contributors (me, Mastergame, Darth Taikin, Luke051). It will be enough if I make a forum or some sort of thing to do that? 18:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Well... I will create a forum, this forum will be about the new name from the project namespace and about my bureacracy, so we, the only four users, can decide it.

I will not e-mail JuWki, I will not continue humiliating myself trying to get answers in vain. You can see his user talk page w:c:imagine:User_talk:JuWki with all the questions that I, Yunzhoung Hou and others asked, and the my user page with the only two answers we get: w:c:imagine:User_talk:Mightyerick, the first about me as admin, and the second about a severe problem we has with the rules of the wiki. Every other question was just ignored. Please watch out the forums, talk pages (there are not many) and you will see there are not answers. Look at contributions and you will see I am the only deleting spam, redirecting stuff, moving wrong files and welcoming new users.

It will be the forum w:c:imagine:Forum:New_Namespace_and_Bureacrat. It will be running during a week. Thanks. 19:31, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Erik, I've put the page on watch, but feel free to poke if I haven't checked it :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 20:24, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I see your message on the Mr. Hou talk page, but he just left after Wikia rejected his ideas. Sorry to lose such a good user. By the way, I am making some changes on the forum I made, I want to change the name of the wiki itself. Anyway, two of the users are not interested on voting and I do not know if Taikin will continue working here... Mighty Erick 00:07, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I suggest setting a site notice at http://imagine.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Sitenotice - that may help attract people to discuss this -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:53, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Someone to check a Thai article?

Hi, Sannse! It's been ages since I've had time to participate much, except occasional minor adds and vandalism checks.  :-(
I hope things have been going well for you!
I'm writing to ask for some help. There are some relatively new pages on the Literature Wikia that I think are in Thai. Do you know someone who could help check to make sure their content is appropriate and maybe even help link them into other content? Or somewhere else I can ask? One of the pages is http://literature.wikia.com/wiki/लघुकथा
Thanks! -- CocoaZen 02:45, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Oops. Never mind. After looking again, I think it is Hindi, and since there is a Hindi Literature Wikia, I've asked an administrator there for assistance.
It was fun to have a reason to write to you anyway.  :-)
-- CocoaZen 03:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
There is wikipedia:hi:लघुकथा - an article of the same name in Category:Hindi literature on Wikipedia which says something about this of which I comprehend not one word. Oh well. --66.102.80.212 03:17, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Good to see you CocoaZen! Things are good for me, still loving being on Wikia :) It's always good to see an oldbie still around :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 09:55, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Site notice?

How does that work?

P.S: You see? JuWki came again after one month just to make random undoes as ever while ignoring the whole wiki: Now he has deleted the web rings of the wiki on the Main Page. It really makes me sick, I am setting them back. If I leave him a message about that weird things he does, he will not come until another month so he can ignore it too. 11:42, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Whatever you put on the page I linked above, will show at the top of all pages. I usually put something like "Please join the discussion on changes at Forum:New_Namespace_and_Bureacrat." It's good to try and get the community to discuss this sort of thing, makes for a much better and stronger community in the long run :) -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 14:32, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help.wikia.com

Whats the intention on how to use this wiki its to substitute all the help namespaces across full wikia? or is to be some sort of template like starter wikia to be combined both for new wikis? --Cizagna (Talk) 01:06, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cizagna. The ultimate idea is for this content to be visible from any Wikia wiki (except those that prefer their own help system). If you look at Inside.wikia you can see w:c:inside:Help:Displaying_images examples of how it would look. On that page, there is no text on Inside, all the text is drawn from Help. If text were added locally, it would go below the box.
The system is almost complete. Basically there are a few link problems, and we need to make it clearer on the page that the content is from another wiki. But, other projects have priority, and this on is on hold. So for the moment, Help.wikia is just a stand alone resource that we can point people towards.
Hope that explains it all OK! -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:20, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Wiki

Hello, Sansse.

I do not want to continue in Imagine anymore. My severe communication problems with JuWki and a recent severe problem with Yunzhoung Hou (he came back) on Quest have made me really unhappy there, and I do not want to remain there anymore. Furthermore, I thought may be my articles do not fit in the original definition of the wiki by JuWki.

He created that wiki as a repository for his Imaginary worlds w:c:imagine:Jill and others, but there already exists Conworld, and it would be the thing that is leading to the escape of users from Imagine.

Meanwhile, my articles are about constructed mythology (You know, gods, legends and myths I invented by myself). I have 500 articles on Constructed Mythology and related stuff. It would be enough to create a new wiki on Constructed Mythology (ala Lord of The Rings)? I had a little project on Scratchpad (Sacred Fantasy), I wonder if you can help me to make a new wiki. I will move all my articles there and to other wikis. It will be the Pegasus wikia, and it will start with 500 articles!! (It is a very good beginning for a wiki). When Taikin comes back, I will tell him and he will probably move too.

I will promote this new wiki as I have done with Imagine: You can see I have submitted Imagine in many web rings, I have added many links in Wikipedia and I have announced this in many other places. You can see Imagine constantly have new users, but they vanish shortly after probably due to the ConWorld/Imagine overlap.

I will submit my project on Request. I hope you can help me. I will be thanked forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. I will love you!!! :)

Look at w:c:requests:Pegasus

P.S: I changed my account from Mightyerick to Mighty ErickMighty Erick 13:22, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'm a bit confused by all that's going on at the moment. I'll get back to you later about this, once I've read around a bit more :) thanks -- sannse@Wikia (talk) 12:22, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I already got the wiki. :)
