[edit] Admin

Congratulations! You are now an administrator of the Central Wikicity. You might find the how-to guide useful. Angela (talk) 07:59, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Spammers beware... Splarka 10:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

You had put spamtest.int after the </pre> tag in the blacklist, so it might not do whatever you were expecting it to do. Angela (talk) 00:57, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

My bad. Still worked though (at least for the blocking part). Splarka 02:45, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Welcome to "adminning"! --CocoaZen 02:55, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] hi i hav a question

do u allow copying of articles from wikipedia to the wikicity?
Thanks
212.120.231.162 23:53, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, as long as you follow and abide the applicable licenses (GFDL in this case), and don't copy the pages for no sensible reason. If the page will remain on Wikipedia in much the same context, there is no reason to make a second soon-to-be-outdated copy when you could just link to it. If, however, you will be modifying it in a different direction than Wikipedia, feel free. Splarka 00:10, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for the help on the category and admin stuff. You mentioned that it is pretty simple to get adminship on an inactive wiki...I think Activism qualifies, since there was only one (!) edit in the past month, until I came on board, on May 24. Sannse suggested that perhaps I and Mark Dilley (the other major contributor) should become admins there...a suggestion which I will pursue. Thanks again. –Nabarry 06:59, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Noprob. Just leave a note for Angela, or ask a staffer in the live chat http://irc.wikia.com/ . Splarka 07:05, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Uncyclopedias interwiki

Hi Splarka! I am an editor of Anegkyklopaideia (the greek uncyclopedia). There was a discussion some time ago concerning interwikis (interwiki map) but we still can't link to other uncyclopedias. Do you have any information on that? Cheers. --Dada 17:18, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, you should ask Carlb on his talk page here (or on Uncyclopedia) about that, as he is mostly the one arranging the interwiki map project. Splarka 21:13, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
Um, "arranging" how? Anegkyklopaideia is Wikia and therefore does not have m:Special page to work with the interwiki table. Any changes to interwiki (or interlanguage) links therefore require table `interwiki` to be changed directly on each SQL database to list the current twenty-one language wikis for Uncyclomedia Foundation projects. I've tried raising the issue on Bugzilla and user talk:Jasonr ages ago but nothing's been done. Not much more that I can do from here, sorry. --carlb 17:19, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Check this out

Check out the WarWiki Main Page and check who did. It was Johnny the Vandal. Somebody needs to block him. General Eisenhower

You'll have to contact a staff member for that. --Splarka (talk) 23:57, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Google box

Hi Sparkla thanks for the note about the google box unfortunately my lack of computerese meant I dont understand what to do to get it back!! Could you spell it out for me more simply.. i am also interested in getting the google scholar box up there is that possible. What else can we get put up on the page on an individual basis? Thanks for your helpLifeartist 17:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, the note was more for sannse. My suggestion requires edits to the html. --Splarka (talk) 20:22, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inciclopedia's slander article

Our policies are almost the same as uncyc's (before uncyc's new 0 vanity policy). The reported article was deleted and the creator was banned as soon as an admin spoted it, three hours after its creation. We usually delete those articles inmidiatly. Most of our admins live in europe, so sometimes this kind of shit can survive a few hours if it's made at latinamerica's daylight time. I wonder why the guy didn't report it directly to us... Anyway, thanks, and If you get anymore complaints just let me the article's title on my talk page and I'll delete it if some other admin doesn't do so first.--Rataube 09:11, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Cheers ^_^ --Splarka (talk) 10:04, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Patrolled Edits

Just a hint: You can go to Special:Preferences to the Editing tab and select x Mark edits I make as patrolled. This will remove the little exclamation point from your edits on recent changes. Patrolled edits (when locked on admin only, such as on WikiFur) are a way of insuring that every edit will be viewed by at least one administrator. However, most administrators here don't need their own edits patrolled *grin*. See m:Help:Patrolled_edit for more general info. --Splarka (talk) 06:20, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Ah, thank you. I was hoping I wouldn't have to click the little link up in the corner every time I edited. >.< Spaz Kitty 06:23, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] From Angela's talk page

[edit] Switch func broken

I have a rather extensive system set up involving the {{switch:bla|bla|blah=bla|huh}} function on the D'ni Wiki, and it all seems to have come tumbling down when the function showed instead a Template:Switch:bla link, which obviously doesn't exist. Is this your or another staff member's doing, is this a php problem (?), or is this a side effect of moving to the {{#switch:}} function? (If it is the latter, hooray!) —Marco Polo 19:15, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

The syntax of parser functions has changed (actually it changed soon after they were introduced, although Wikia was stuck with that particular version for a long while). Se m:ParserFunctions (however, they are still be broken temporarily while the upgrade is finalized). --Splarka (talk) 22:40, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
At the moment, though, I see that neither {{switch:}} nor {{#switch:}} work. Once these updates are complete, what am I to expect? Can I expect m:StringFunctions and m:DynamicFunctions as well? In fact, before, only expr, switch, and ifeq existed. Will we be getting if, ifexpr, and ifexist? Is it safe to proceed with #switch on the assumption that it will work once the update completes? —Marco Polo 23:26, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes, they are all still broken. See Upgrade_bugs#1.7alpha_r15298_bugs for updates. m:StringFunctions and m:DynamicFunctions are not official functions, but the author User:Algorithm has written them for Uncyclopedia, and several of his extensions have been adopted Wikia-wide (such as forum and choose), so it is possible. I'd hold off changing anything until the ParserFunctions start working properly. --Splarka (talk) 23:34, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
Now that the parserfunctions are working normally, just use those ^_^.--Splarka (talk) 04:00, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Think again

This is darth shawdon the brother of darth mavoc he was the one who made up the other identidy what ever it was. So I don't know why your taking this out on me. If you don't belive you should get banned your self for being a bad administrater. So if you don't let me in i'm going to do every thing I can do to get me back in i've only vandalised once on my brothers (darth mavocs) page because he was pissing me off. And someone like Maulyoda or ewokfist will give me a fair tryal and will see the truth unlike you!

Making threats is not a productive way to request unbanning. --Splarka (talk) 10:02, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] David Lill

Please ignore my brother (above), he has no experience in diplomacy. Anyway, I came here to ask if you could unblock me. I would like to tell you what happened but Bobby might be watching. Ask Bub, he can tell you what I already told him.

I saw. --Splarka (talk) 23:49, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Saw what? Never mind, you still haven't answered my question, can you unblock me or not?

[edit] X-Files Wiki CSS

Thanks for trying to help out at the X-Files Wiki, but the tables at the left side looked even worse! The links at the top seemed better, though, so I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what parts of the stylesheet you changed to effect that section. --Mulder 15:48, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

You can check the diff to see what I added. Readd all the stuff you just removed, except the .portlet li {} section. to just change the links. --Splarka (talk) 03:43, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adding Campaigns

I don't have plans to contribute much to the Campaigns Wikia at this time (but you never know...). However, I'd be happy to help keep an eye on it. --CocoaZen 20:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Do you know who came up with the term Wiki Walk? --CocoaZen 20:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

I'll keep an eye on Campaigns. No ballot box stuffing 'round here. --CocoaZen 17:27, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Protection

A blocked vandal is flooding recent changes by vandalizing his talk page. Could you protect the page? Bub 20:59, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Hi: I'm Onipsis, admin. of Inciclopedia. Ratabue, bureaucrat of the Inciclopedia said to me one day that if I had to block a range of IP directions, I should ask you for it. Now, I need to know how to do it so I would be grateful for you very much if you were explaining it to me. Please, forgive my low english level. --Onipsis 16:21, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I had answer already. Szoferka 17:10, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DofusFr administrators

Hello, and thanks again for your explanation about the interwiki links ^^. The french Dofus Wikia was founded by Fenn, but he has been inactive for more than 4 months. On top of that, I cannot send him any e-mail and it seems that there is no other administrator or bureaucrat on this Wikia. I would like to become administrator (or bureaucrat) on this Wikia, could you please tell me who I should contact and what is the process to follow? Thanks. — Ethaniel 16:27, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I'll ask, keep editing ^_^. --Splarka (talk) 22:10, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much \o/ ! Don't worry, I think I'm rather responsible :p... — Ethaniel 08:59, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Excuse me again, but... In order to help me in the interface configuration of the french Dofus Wikia, I think I will need some help, but (fortunately ^^) only sysops can do that. In order to promote a sysop, I would like to become bureaucrat: could you please tell me what I have to do? Should I, for instance, contact Angela? Thank you very much! — Ethaniel 23:19, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and done it since there are no other sysops. --Splarka (talk) 03:59, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you very much, I'll use wisely this new right. — Ethaniel 13:06, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Move the Boxes at the left side

Is it possible to move f.x. the search-button at the buttom? If, how?

You want to move everything in the left column to the bottom? Logo/navigation/search/toolbox/wikia? --Splarka (talk) 04:12, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fixing Psychology Main Page

Wow! thanks Splarka. Thats really good now, we've kept our formatting and can edit the pages too. The only thing I changed was that you'd left a big space between the headline and the first section, but i fixed that by removing the margin:2em part.

Thanks! Tom Michael Mostly Zen Image:Baby_tao.jpg (talk) 00:04, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent Changes page

Hi, it's Kwenn from the Pirates of the Caribbean wiki. First, I'd like to say a big thank-you for the work you've done with the Forum. Cheers! A quick question: how can I edit the Special:Recentchanges page? I assume it has a MediaWiki location, and I wanted to add a few Special page links to the top (i.e., New Pages, New Files etc for ease of use). Thanks - Kwenn 10:51, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MA/en "wantedpages" list

Hi Splarka - I'm back ;) Thanks for your work on the wantedpages list over at MA/en. I did some changes to the CSS to avoid double "," showing up in case of hidden entries. Maybe you can re-use that on some other wikia. -- Cid Highwind 11:06, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SWFAOL

Somebody has been vandalising with AOL. Now as i use Aol, i cant sign in or edit. Please use a specific ban, instead of a range ban. Thanks.

And who are you? --Splarka (talk) 00:03, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] range block on IP 61.88.131.188

yeah splarka, heres the story. my mate tumble-weed is trying to become an admin on swfanon. i cant elect him because there is a range block on our schools IP for "Vandal range" i am not the vandal nor is tumble-weed but there are other user at our scholl who do vandalise. please no more further range blocks please. thanks, Grandmaster Malak

Here is an idea: don't try to edit a wiki from a school, you'll just attract over-the-shoulder vandals. --Splarka (talk) 00:38, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Lou Franklin

I've read his Wikipedia history, so I know there is no reasoning with him. But because he threatened lawsuits against Wikipedia, I want to be sure that we have and follow a process before just banning him. That's why I called for a vote on the Category question, to force his hand. If (when) he changes the category on the same-sex marriage pages after the vote takes place, we'll be within our rights to ban him. Right now he's just expressing his opinion, which is what Campaigns is all about. If Wikia wants to take action before that, that's up to you guys. I'm just going to do what I feel is right. Chadlupkes 13:09, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

3RR? Not sure what that is. Chadlupkes 21:35, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
3RR stands for Three-revert rule. Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Three-revert rule says "This policy in a nutshell: Do not revert any single page in whole or in part more than three times in 24 hours, except in the case of obvious, simple vandalism." --EarthFurst 02:34, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] If you fixed my display size issue thang....

...then thanks, dude. If you didn't; well, that's weird, it appears to have fixed itself. Ahh, the internet would be a great thing if it didn't require all these stupid computers to run it. Codeine 12:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I did find the problem, and forced the devs to fix it, yes, after 2 or 3 more people reported it. Took a while as I had to find someone with a malfunctioning IE to test it on. --Splarka (talk) 21:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template problem

Morning. Could you have a look at w:c:computing:Template:Infobox os if you have a moment? It's way beyond me, and something is wrong. Ta, -- sannse (talk) 18:46, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Fixed, maybe. --Splarka (talk) 21:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Make them Admin Please

Told me to come to you when I needed to make someone an admin. Well I got one for ya. Tomparis and Werdan7. Werdan has been helping with some of the organization and Tomparis has cleaned up our Request Page. (CheatBase) Thanks, CrossBlade 23:48, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Done. --Splarka (talk) 01:23, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Debug template #if:?

GreenReaper suggested you might be able to help me with this. ShoppingWiki:Template:Infobox_user_review includes two #if:s, but neither of them work in the 'else' case. The template displays incorrectly if the {{{user}}} and {{{rating}}} parameters are undefined; see ShoppingWiki:Project:Sandbox for an example of this. Seahen 18:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Replied on your shopping talk page. --Splarka (talk) 22:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Special:Listusers

You wrote: Special:Listusers shows all users for all 1700~ wikia. These usernames are for the most part not created and not active here. The list is exactly the same on all Wikia. See Special:Activeusers for a list of local users. --Splarka (talk) 02:00, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. Given the very large number of username entries on the Genealogy wiki (compared to the number of articles) I thought it might be a global summary. However, I checked the Wikipedia version to see if that was the case, and found the listing there was considerably different (and much larger) from that on Genealogy. The URL for the Genealogy UserList wiki is at

http://genealogy.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Listusers That for the Wikipedia is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Listusers

  • I did not check deeply on the WIKIpedia version, but some of the user names on Genealogy are inappropriate, and clearly intended to offend. In anycase, whether its a global listing across all wiki's or some sort of subsetting, the names need to be scrubbed. thanks --Bill 12:53, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Your response:
    • To reiterate: those names are not on genealogy, they are global to wikia. To clarify: Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects are not part of wikia. Wikia has a shared user database across all the sites on wikia.com (not wikipedia.org), and that is where the user database is shared. Wikipedia projects all have stand-alone databases (all ~600 of them). Wikia.com domain-hosted wikis have one common database of users (all ~1700 of them). --Splarka (talk) 21:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
      • OK, I did not understand the distinction being made between wikia, Wikipedia, and Wikimedia. However, I assumed that when I clicked on the link to report such issues while within the Genealogy Wiki, that I would be taken somewhere appropriate to report that. Consider information about Wikipedia UserList as unnecesary for your purposes. Nonetheless, the fact remains that there are usernames in those lists that are patently offensive. Is it the policy of wikia to allow such names to remain? Is that also the policy of Wikipedia and Wikimedia? --Bill 00:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Wikia doesn't allow those usernames, and they are often blocked from editing, but they continue to show up in the list of users for 2 reasons - firstly, there is no easy way to remove them, secondly, if you remove them, the user would not be blocked from editing and could simply recreate the name.
